I’m starting a fresh thread for the night. Just a reminder that you can catch me on PJTV sometime during the 8pm-9pm Eastern slot.

Scroll for rolling updates…

Tidbits:

The Real Clear Politics electoral map is here.

McCain takes Kentucky and W. Virginia; Obama takes Vermont.

Military ballots will be counted in Virginia, thank goodness.

Democrat Mark Warner has taken the Senate seat in Va.

Stay tuned…

***

8:15pm Eastern. NBC has called Penn. for Obama. Take it for what it’s worth…

So much for those bitter, clingy racists, eh, Barry O?

McConnell hangs on in Ky. Elizabeth Dole appears to be out in NC.

I can tell you this much: The Senate Republicans need a wake-up call. We need fresh, conservative leadership. McConnell had his chance.

***

8:22pm Eastern. Virginia is still too close too call.

NH to Obama.

8:42pm Eastern. Hearing that Georgia is going in the McCain column…

8:52pm Eastern. Sununu loses his Senate seat in NH.

9:19pm Eastern. Minnesota and Michigan go for O.

GOP Sen. Saxby Chambliss hangs on in Ga.

Fox and others have called Ohio for Obama.

10:55pm Eastern. Both Denver papers are calling Colorado for Obama. Also calling Democrat Udall the winner in the Senate race.

Virginia called for Obama.

Writing’s on the wall, folks.

The GOP has committed suicide. They tried so hard to be Democrats but if you are going to vote for a socialist it seems people prefer the real thing to a cheap imitation. Of course, the GOP will fail to learn this lesson and will flail about for 4 to 12 more years before fading into obscurity. It is time for a new, conservative party.

By the rivers of Babylon we sat mourning and weeping when we remembered Zion.

On the poplars of that land we hung up our harps.

There our captors asked us for the words of a song; Our tormentors, for a joyful song: “Sing for us a song of Zion!”

But how could we sing a song of the LORD in a foreign land?

If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand wither.

May my tongue stick to my palate if I do not remember you, If I do not exalt Jerusalem beyond all my delights.

Remember, LORD, against Edom that day at Jerusalem. They said: “Level it, level it down to its foundations!”

Fair Babylon, you destroyer, happy those who pay you back the evil you have done us!

Perhaps we are experiencing an exile from the Promised Land. Pray we will be allowed back.

right4life, I have demonstrated my points. If the Jews (as a whole) rejected Jesus, and yet are still God’s chosen people, then you have people that are saved while they reject Jesus.

Your view also entails that these people that are saved, even though they reject Jesus, must therefore only be saved by being a member of a certain race of people. Other races aren’t saved if they reject Jesus. That would make God a racist.

I don’t believe now is the “end times” of the world (that could come at any time), but perhaps it is for the country. It is reported McCain conceded to Obama. Sadly, it appears I was very wrong about my country.

I’ve been going through a lot of ups and downs emotionally about this election. I’m now taking the results as motivation. If things continue tonight the way they are, then it means that we can rid ourselves of the old and reinvigorate ourselves with the new once everyone gets a sample of what an unobstructed Democratic Party tastes like (chicken?). There’s the silver lining.

I’m not depressed at this moment. I’m kind of energized, actually. Not celebrating (that’d be demented coming from me, who’s demented enough already), just energized. Palin, Steele, Jindal (to name a few), and names we’ve not heard from yet — after this storm has been weathered (I hope – yes, I said HOPE – it’ll just be some sprinkles or a squall here and there), the future looks bright.

I think we’ve been so lax and apathetic over who we’ve voted for over the last twenty years that we can now start over with a clean slate. New blood is what the Republican Party needs, and it’s been a long time coming. CHANGE! You wanna tick off a liberal, make “hopenchange” your own. They’ve been shooting themselves in the foot with their rude, punk-[self-redacted] attitudes. People will catch on to it sooner or later. Would’ve preferred sooner over later, but a lot of people are just ignorant. Nothing’s important unless it affects them directly. Until then, the big picture is just a painting of their own designs.

Well, I’m guessing tomorrow I start working toward a 2010 conservative sweep in Congress, and Romney in 2012.

The Conservative movement goes through cycles like this. There’s a revolution, it gains power, it stagnates and turns moderate, it loses. We’ve been here a few times since WWII. 1960, 1976, 1992, 2008… Nothing new under the sun.

The problem is the damage the Dems do in the meantime.

Hell, the most reassuring thing I heard all night was the exultant MSM talking about how Barry will have the same Congressional makeup as enjoyed by Carter… Good. Start the comparison now. I say by April, the country will realize it screwed up. Bad. Enjoy your tax hike.

We need conservative leadership. A grassroots rally to defend, as much as we possibly can in our weakened state, what they’ll try to do. Chuckie even came out and told us: “Fairness” Doctrine.

right4life, Romans teaches that not even the Jewish people, the “natural branches,” will be spared if they reject Jesus (Romans 11:17-24). Paul answers the Gentile Christians, who were becoming arrogant towards the Jewish Christians (the Roman church was split between the Jewish and Gentile Christians), by proving that not all of the Jews rejected Jesus. That is why Paul points out that he is a Jew (11:1). That isn’t to say that all Jews will be saved.

Throughout the history of ancient Israel, there was only a small fraction, a remnant, that was ever saved.

I support the modern day nation of Israel because they are an important ally in an important part of the world, and not for some theological reason.

Socialism is habit forming and this country has a built-in base for it which will only irreversibly expand as time goes on and it alters the cultural fabric of this country. The Dems are going to sow dragons’ teeth of entitlement programs everywhere which will be poison for any politician to touch hereafter. It will make Social Security look like a picnic. This day marks the beginning of a Europe America, and my our basic culture survive!

Thank you Single Issue Conservative Voters for whittling down the Repub primaries to a weak nominee with no fire in his belly to really win! Gentlemen losers DON’T impress me!

Hold on to your wallets and values, America — at least the part that had sense!

i’m scared- my entire family lives in israel. i heard on the radio the other night that iran was saying that the “earthquake” that they had the other day was an underground nuclear test.

i’m sad because what i see the greatest thing in the world going down the toilet. there is nowhere else in the world where someone can have the opportunities to succeed as they have here.

i’m disappointed that people don;t see that don’t have a clue what freedoms and opportunities that they have in this amazing country!!! they cry about not having this or that. take a good look at the middle east or africa and realize that you have it all!! women can go to school, choose whether to get married or not, can walk alone down the street freely without being raped or harrassed(like in africa or the middle east). etc.

BUT MOSTLY I AM FURIOUS!!! the RNC needs to stop being gracious and polite and chivalrous and “hope” that the people will see past the b.s. that the left slings at them. time to take off those gloves and fight like you mean it. show that you want it.

anyways… off to bed. i have school tomorrow so that i can get a better paying job because millions on welfare are depending on me!!

How will reparations work for Blacks who aren’t descended from American held slaves? Obama, for one. Blacks with mixed race ancestry? A proportionate check?

BTW, even if this country does mail a generous check to people six or eight generations removed from slavery, I still suspect the culture of victimhood that produces race baiters like Wright, Jackson and Sharpton will remain.

Palin was the stronger half of the ticket, quite honestly.

She isn’t a career politician, she has a family, a good record in Alaska and solid conservative and religious principles. She’ll have four more years of gubernatorial experience in 2012.

If she anticipates running in 2012, she can gather advisors that share her principles on issues she is now considered light on, like foreign policy. By all accounts, she is a quick study.

I will say, besides executive experience as governor, Jindal also effectively ran a state agency in Louisiana, and served in Congress.

Ideally, they run 1-2 (in whatever order) in 2012 in the primaries, and the loser accepts the VP slot.

Like I said before, we cleared some of the dead wood, like Powell and Hagel and John Warner, and country club/beltway cons like Kathleen Parker and Peggy Noonan, from the fold. The party will be better off in 2012 because of it.

But the damage to the country will be severe, and country should come before party. If McCain had won, as old as he is, he probably would have been a one termer, and Palin might have been President in 2012, and she seems like a real deal conservative.

Even winning the White House and Congress back in 2012, while quite possible, won’r be a cure all. The military will have been slashed, foreign tyrants and terrorists will have had a four year grace period to regroup, and there may be enormous entitlement programs that will be difficult to roll back.

It didn’t matter in the end, but the idiots who voted for Barr or some other protest candidate in battleground states put their own ego ahead of the good of the country. I’m upset now, I’d be furious if protest voters had helped inflict Obama on us.

I know of quite a few rigs that are being laid down because of an OB win. The oil companies were preparing in advance to prevent losses in production due to what they know will happen if OB wins. Wellsy, we were screwed in 2004 by Bush and the GOP “leadership” in the House and Senate.

If you mistook my tone as “celebratory” I suggest you get a hearing test. America made her worst choice ever last night.

The only problem with your scenario is that McCain would have been a bad choice too. Look at what McCain promised to do with immigration, global warming, and a host of other issues. McCain would have caused a disaster of slightly different proportions. And the GOP would have concluded that they could win with RINOs. Maybe now they will figure that one point out.

Where will we be in 4 years? Here is my guess. I could be wrong. Things could easily be worse:

Unemployment: 7 to 9% if we are lucky. Could get worse.
Taxes: Add 5 to 10 points to all brackets. Many new taxes on energy. Everything costs more due to taxes.
Interest Rates: No guess. The whole process is so screwed up already it is irrational and hard to guess.
Stock Market: 9000 will be a dream. I suspect we may see 6000 or even 5000 as these leftwing idiots screw with an economy they don’t understand.
Health Care: Less choice, costs more, wrecked as they prepare to socialize it.
National Debt: $5 Trillion more than GWB leaves office. A default on loan payments is not impossible.
Military: Smaller, weaker, starved for funds and much less effective than now. Expect recruiting goals to be missed every year. Expect troops to get out as fast as they can. Expect Obama to put “stop loss” in place and dream up all manner of new, stupid foreign interventions. A draft by 2011 is possible.

There was no celebrating here last night. I was torn between crying and vomiting.
