Election Day: America votes
So, will Michelle Obama be calling our country “downright mean” again at the end of the night? Or will she and The One get the chance to “transform” the constitution, the military, the schools, and every other aspect of American life in their image?
Toledo police are gearing up — literally — with gas masks and helmets.
Let me know what turnout looks like in your neck of the woods.
And let me know what local, county, and state races and measures matter most to you.
Some of the down ticket action I’ll be tracking throughout the day (I’ll be adding to the list):
* Murtha/Russell, 12th congressional district, Pa. I belive in miracles.
*Barletta/Kanjorski, 11th CD, Pa. Lou Barletta is the staunch opponent of illegal immigration and mayor of Hazleton. He’s one of the few House GOP candidates poised to take a seat away from a sitting Democrat.
*Franken/Coleman, Minn. Senate. Three scary-as-hell words: Senator Al Franken.
*Washington gubernatorial race. A Dino Rossi-Christine Gregoire rematch. It was razor-thin last time. GOP candidate Rossi is a rock-solid conservative with broad appeal. Watch Sound Politics.
*Senate races by bailout vote.
*Races noted by See-Dubya: Lt. Col Allen West in Florida and Keith Fimian in Northern Virginia.
*Ward Connerly’s anti-racial preference measures in Colorado and Nebraska. Both likely to pass, as they have every single time they’ve made it onto the ballot.
*Prop. 8, the marriage protection initiative in California, and two other marriage measures in Arizona and Florida.
*T. Boone Pickens’ Big Wind boondoggle initiative in Cali.
*Via NR, life and tax measures:
The culture of life is on the ballot in five states. California, Colorado, and South Dakota have the opportunity to limit abortion rights. An initiative in Michigan would permit the destruction of human embryos in scientific research and allow state funding for it. This vote will test the strength of the pro-life movement in a state that is home to many culturally conservative Democrats. Finally, the state of Washington will consider following in the footsteps of its neighbor to the south, Oregon, legalizing euthanasia.
Massachusetts will decide whether to phase out the state’s personal income tax. Voters in Arizona, Florida, Maine, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Oregon also will have a chance to limit or lower their taxes. Coloradoans will ponder raising their state sales tax to provide more services to the disabled. Minnesotans also will have a chance to increase their sales taxes so that the state government can spend more on parks and the arts. Although Minnesotans love the outdoors, taxpayer groups point out that St. Paul already has underwritten such public artworks as sculpture popularly known as “The Big Poo.” Simple disgust may compel enough voters to flush down this tax hike.

THE TROLLS ARE NOT JUST OUR ADVERSARIES, THEY ARE THE ENEMY
Okay, I voted for the McCain/Palin ticket in the battleground state of Florida about 1 hour ago. While I don’t agree with McCain on everything, it felt good to cast the vote once and for all.
I couldn’t help my self and get “into it” a bit with the Obama worker who was clearly violating the 100 foot rule. I called her on it and she denied she was too close- in a very nasty way, I might add!
I told her, “It makes sense that you can’t count that high and figure it out. You’re dumb enough to work for Obama, that pretty much says it all.” She tried to respond but I walked back into the polling place and told the inspector she was violating the 100 foot rule. He said he would speak to her, but I don’t believe him. He could SEE her from the window, for crying out loud!
Typical liberal perspective- the rules are for everyone else but them, and then they get irate when you call them on it.
I left, got in my car, and prayed. Again. For God’s will to be done, even if that means an Obama win. Sometimes we need to fall before we can see the light. I am bracing myself for whatever happens.

I live in a Republican leaning county but a Bolshevik leaning township. I went by the polling place when it opened (on my way back from praying for a pro-life victory) and it was packed. Going to back to vote after the morning rush.
Corruption already in Philly: they threw out the Republican poll watchers.
Yep, and that’s my previous home town. How typical. Throwing them out is breaking the law. I hope someone comes to the rescue. Last time around, before the polls even opened, there were 2000 votes logged for Kerry on the machines.

Fresno County CA here. Prop 8 is my biggest concern for the state.
1.5 million people in this central California county and neither candidate bothered to show up, at all.
Fresno County WILL go McCain and will vote yes on 8.
Mayoral race and the propositions are pulling in more than normal at my polling station.
What they should do is stand well outside those Philly polls with a clicker-counter. At the end of the day we would see that there are more votes cast than people that came to the poll.
People think I’m kidding when I say my gggrandfather, born in Philly in 1833, is still voting there.
We never have voting problems where I live. That said, I voted last week by absentee.
Just got done voting.
Was interrupted by the Cook County State atty election monitor who took my name down.

Wrong on both counts. I said what I mean. Neither of these guys deserves my vote. What’s hard to understand about that? It’s just me. That’s how I’m wired. I’ll go vote when it matters. These two are cut from the same hand-out happy cloth.

Here in Berkeley the “faithful” are in for a big surprise. McCain is going to win and these sitting ducks are so sure that Oblinkee has it in the bag.
They are completely discounting the Bradley effect and the coal news impact on Ohio, PA and WVa.
They believe this sophmoric idjut has the wits to lead the greatest nation in the world. He doesnt even know Washington DC yet because he has been too busy “running” for Prezzzzz.

In line with my son and on the phone with 3 daughters and 2 son-in-laws at their voting locations at 5:15 AM here in Phoenix … polls opened at 6:00 AM … 5th voter through the doors …
About 200 in line when my son and I came back out at 6:15 AM …
Wasn’t taking any chances on any of them getting busy at work and not getting to the polls today so this old Marine held “Reveille” by way of a family conference call at 4:15 AM to get them all moving toward the voting booths then back on the phone to make sure they followed through …
Waited over an hour in Milwaukee to vote.

There were people standing out in front of my polling place, couldnt tell if they were poll watchers or shilling for candidates. I entered through the back, there was nobody standing around.
I was in and out in 15 minutes. Morons in front, and behind, had problems with their registrations.
First time voters and all.
By all accounts, i’m just ready for this to be over.
If nothing else, the insessant phone calls from both Obama and McCain people will stop…3 calls from each this morning.
It’s all sprinkly here in San Diego and just pissed some “No on Prop 8″ pollers.

I have that feeling that the MSM has overstated the polling data for Obama at they will be in for a big surprise Wed. I drive in in Western MA and Northen CT i have only see a few (less than 10) Obama signs. I have only see a few (less than 5) Obama bumpeer stickers.

A view from Oregon…
As many of you know, we have [primarily] mail voting (you can always hand deliver the ballot up until election too). After some initial hesitation by myself and many others in using such method, I am here to tell you it works and works quite well.
Two big advantages of the system:
1. It is, BY DEFINITION, a ‘paper trail’.
2. Local elections offices have time to research and vet new voter registrations and reconcile with other government databases to [help] ensure that ONLY those legitimately able to vote receive ballots.
Security *appears to be* to good, if not better, so far. The documented history of observed problems has been negligible.
…Just IMHO, HTH.

I have not seen one Obama sign here. Not one. But on the other hand I have only seen a few McCain signs. I see plenty of signs for our local elections. Of course LA is a red state.
We were expecting it at 6am every Saturday too. Didn’t make the nasty thoughts go away when it happened, though.
My line was 15 minutes. Lovely sunny warm day – 65º Wisconsin day. Chatted with a couple friends, went home and had breakfast.

I’m watching the race between Rossi and Gov. Fraudoire. That last governor’s race was won by despicable means.
After TWO recounts, with Rossi ahead each and every time, she sued, sued, sued, and eventually got the results she was looking for (barely).
More of this type of behavior to come from Obama? Probably.

Concerned about a long wait, decided to get up early and arrive right when the polls opened in Georgia at 7:00 a.m.
Whoa.
There was already a HUGE line waiting to get in. It took 2 hours 20 minutes just to get to the voting machine.
My assessment? This kind of turnout is BAD news for Obama. Georgia, which is a safe red state, has THIS kind of backlog early turnout? That tends to run in favor of Republicans, and I think the evidence of the number of people bothering to put up with a long wait in the early morning cold is evidence of a highly energized electorate, in particular the conservative base.
Call this one for McCain/Palin.
FWIW, I laid a tarot card spread yesterday, which indicated a McCain/Palin victory.

I voted about three weeks ago. McCain/Palin, of course.
I’m out here in the northeastern corner of Colorado. Nothing but ranchers and farmers out here. So, don’t expect to see any problems from either side. I also know nobody that is going to vote for that “nice Irish kid”, Barry O’bama (sic).
Never the less, when I go into the front range (Denver area), I’ll be packing my little .38 Special (I have a CCW) just to be on the safe side.
Tippecanoe Township, (very rural, northern Indiana) Indiana has 800 registered voters. 40 voted absentee. This the number that would probably work out of town. There has been 35 people in line since before 6. I waited in line an hour to vote. This the heaviest turnout in my 15 years living here.
Just got back from voting, it took an hour. Got to chat and socialize with the neighbors. McCain has this area in the bag, I have never seen so many people voting in my 20 years living here.

I live in Madera, California, which takes pride in being the heart (near the geographic center) of the State. [Madera is where the mad part of my moniker comes from]. Of the ten or so homes on the cul-de-sac where I live, five of them, including ours, have had Yes on Proposition 8 lawn signs. It’s a whole different mindset here in the Central Valley than in the urban areas of the State(and that’s meant to be a compliment, lgm!!).
However, I have to admit that I ended up voting Bob Barr, the Libertarian, for President. I just could not in good conscience vote for McCain. I figured living in California, our State is going to go for Obama anyway. Although I initially was excited when he selected Palin as his running mate, I just could not accept his vote on the pork laden bailout package, which was the straw that broke the camel’s back, given his previous actions with regards to illegal immigration, election finance reform, the Gang of 14, etc.
I sure hope that the 2012 election has a more credible Republican candidate.
I think we’ll see a transformation of the GOP for 2012. We’ve outed Powell and many of the RINO’s who’ve now been cast into the abyss, never to return.
Back to the basics, the truth is short, lies are long.
I did my part by voting for Coleman. However, my daughter just informed me she voted for Barclay so pretty much cancelled out my vote. Not that Barclay is so bad…in fact, he is the best of the three candidates. But he has no chance to win. Coleman is better than Franken. Geez…even spongebobsquarepants is better than Franken!!
I love living in a rural part of the country; Mccain/Palin signs in the yards, guns in the trucks, no waiting at the voting booth.

I voted, but only for the men who earned my vote. I’m sick & tired of the proverbial “sacred duty” of the vote. Sacred duty my a$$. If I’m some whore sleeping around with whoever comes along, the answer is not to keep sleeping around. It helps nobody. Close your legs, straigten up your business, and find the right guy.
If the RNC and 50% of America needs a collective spanking for the idiocy it’s displayed by its actions, so be it. The Conservatives will be around to pick up the pieces later. I just survived my only college class today with an obamabot lecturing about socialized health care and that we need it for this country. BTW-Its a technical writing class and not a Political Science Class.
Heard lots of complaints about voting and how long people had to wait to vote early last week. Hearing people complain that they had to wait about an hour made me want to jump on the waambulance and complain that I waited a whole 2 minutes. The injustice of it all. (With my sarcasam meter set on stun!)
I even complained that I had breakfast that morning, waited to head to the polls for 5 minutes after it opened and that my Mc’Ds McGriddle was even luke warm. (Extra sarcasam added for good measure for them!)

This is only my second Presidential election and I remember being nervous about Kerry/Bush, but not this badly.
I live in Indiana, too. I just moved to Brownsburg about a week ago, so I’m still registered in my old district – good ol’ District 7, where the dead vote early and often. Thankfully, a photo ID law was instituted a few years ago, so things should be better.
I just voted Barr, and I really feel good about that vote.

At 0500, I dropped my mother-in-law off at the Vienna, VA polling station as a volunteer poll worker. When I returned at 0820, there was no line. They had several electronic machines as well as a dozen paper ballot stations. The poll workers were almost fighting over which way I would cast my vote. Apparently I was number 606 to use the paper ballot scanner, which is a pretty big number for so early in the morning in this small town.
Recently called my parents in western PA to check in. My mom told me that the “rednecks” were just about to head out the door to vote for Bill Russell.
No matter how the races turn out, it’s a great day to be an American.

We vote by mail here in the “progressive” state of Orygun, I drop my ballot off today about 7:30 pm…due to counting ballots as early as a week in advance…think there’s no chance of corruption by polling works in a dark blue state uh!.

Michelle,Dino Rossi won last time.He won both machine counts and they kept mysteriously finding ballots in King County on the hand recount.Gregoire was also shipping in homeless people and the dead were voting for her.Even Rush said there were more votes for her than voters.This time around she is once again pulling out all of her slimy tactics,including taking Rossi to court for everything under the sun.I don’t doubt he will win again,but will it be stolen from us again?

Funny thing….my precinct straddles two neighborhoods, real America on this side and pretty much Chiapas-on-the-Hudson on the other side, yet we all go to the same polling place. 5 people in line, 30 minute wait. Apparently even the Spanish language ballot was too much of a challenge for some of our “citizens”, so someone had to enter the booth with each of them to explain how to complete their vote. I finally got frustrated enough to ask one of the elderly poll handlers, “Excuse me, is there a special booth where the McCain voters can complete their ballot?” He just laughed and shook his head in amazement. Here we are complaining about what is to come, and this gave me pause….think about being this man, probably 70 and a veteran, seeing this country acquiesce to the very people he tried to keep it safe from? I cannot imagine the sadness of our greatest generation. If Obama get elected, we have sincerely let them down.
When they get their socialized medicine it will give new meaning to the words long wait. And we know who will be doing the most complaing and demanding that something be done.
I voted in Alexandria, VA – there was a long line when my husband went when the polls opened, but at 9:30 the line was really short.
I took my 7 year old son with me to vote. I proudly voted Republican all the way. God Bless America!

My wife and I will go to bed early tonight as we work early. I hope the riots don’t come close to us. We have some of Obama’s people living near us, but I hope the stupidity is limited to the big cities… I don’t want my car overturned and burned in celebration of the messiah’s coming.
I went to drop off four ballots this morning (friends and family) at the drive through drop off.
I decided to park my car and walk there because I have McCain/Palin stickers on the bumper and I don’t trust anybody not to do something with the ballots if they’re not on the same side.
After reading that appalling story about the professor who was thrilled by stealing people’s yard signs, I wonder what in the world we have come to.

Wife and I voted about two hours ago. I was around the 1600th ballot cast since 6 a.m. Steady stream, not a lot of things on the ballot, so everything is moving right along.
Went to late breakfast and it seemed as though EVERYONE had a “I Voted” sticker on.

pnt: I don’t care who’s plan we follow! I put forth a basis of a plan for discussion because I don’t have all the answers, but all of us Conservatives together, can forge an exceptional one!
A lot of complaining, but no one to help “push the work along!” This is last call. This isn’t melodrama, but an extropolation of our current situation combined w/the published words & votes of our current leaders.
Regardless of the winner, you can bet on 2 things:
1.) the broadcast/cable/internet “STF you Conservatives, you!” bill will pass. Both parties want it. It will pass as the Crap Sandwich 2.0 along w/the midnight increases of it passed. NB: The card-check bill is a part of it. (Think abt it: any bill that decreases freedom of opinion is part&parcel of such henious attacks on our Republic…)
2.) More bills will pass to erase our Republic: its borders, its laws, its integrity. I don’t know what’s currently on the table, or coming, but tactically it has to occur. Those who doubt a conserted effort, call me “tinhat”, I have one word: England. A land once much like us. Look, see Socialism’s poison blossom bloom, its cloyingly sweet odor covering the systemic poison killing its body politic.
We can no longer afford the “dead weight” Conservative. Again & again, the “Gang of14″, the crossover Rs, have chopped our legs out from under us. Those inevitable[sp] cries of “ideaological purity”: yes, just so!!

I’m so completely with you on this!! When I got to work, one of my co-workers asked me how long I had to wait. I said, “Only an hour, and I didn’t have anybody shooting at me. So it’s all good!!” There was an article in our local (liberal rag) newspaper on Sunday complaining about the fact that people were going to have to wait in line. I told the hubby that I have to read the paper once in a while to remind me why I canceled our subscription. Idiots!
Virginia 1st District: Turnout is so heavy the parking lot is overflowing and people are parking across the street. There were long lines inside when I went in to vote.
It didn’t stop me, though.
My sister called me last night asking me who to vote for. She’s usually one who does not vote, doesn’t care for politics.
I instructed her to vote Conservative across the board. Locally I’m looking for the corruptocrat Paul Tonko to lose his bid for NY Congressional District #21. Maybe we can take this seat back for the republicans!
I saw that Bob Barr was on the ballot (Libertarian) next to Ralph Nader (Green?).
My father and I, along with my sister voted for McCain/Palin.
I thought I’d never pray for McCain to win anything, this is truly a dark day.
I voted in what really might be the last semi-free election in this country last week. Straight Republican ticket, but I didn’t select the ’straight Republican’ slate option, I wanted to cast a vote by each name.
I voted for our Texas Supreme Court justice. I guess the nine justices serve six year terms, and a third are elected every two years. He is the descendant of freed slaves. If Obama loses, the MSM will blame racism. ‘NewsWeak’s Alter already said so. I have no problem, and I suspect most people don’t, have a problem voting for a Black man (or woman) if they are best for the job.
One of the men running for the Texas SC is named ‘Sam Houston’. Good name. Trial lawyer (Democrat, obviously), has never served as a judge at any level. Also has a history of DWIs.
The Dem Senate candidate isn’t a bad guy, is in the National Guard (and made a huge deal about his two weeks of service during the Summer), but Cornyn is better than most, and I certainly don’t want the Dems to have the votes for cloture.
Anyway, at least I’ll have the small satisfaction when this country goes to hell in a handbasket that I am not responsible.
And I give McCain a 20% chance of pulling the upset, holding all the Bush 2004 battleground states, or losing no more than one and capturing Pennsylvania, so I am a glass one fifth full kind of optimist.
Really sad here.
Orange County, CA. Supposed to be the island of conservatives in an otherwise liberal state. 4 out of 5 in my office voting for Obama. These are what I consider intelligent, hard working, upper middle class to wealthy individuals.
I feel as though I’m alone.
In Anchorage, for the first time in over 35 years of voting here, the line was too long to go through before work.

I just got back from voting in a small town in SC. I’ve been voting for 30 years and at this precinct for 20 years and I have never seen such a turnout. I got there about 10:30 and the line was out to the street. A worker informed us there were actually two lines and this was the back of the A-K line. The back of the L-Z line was farther up. My place in the alphabet allowed me to go to the L-Z line which was inside the building. That line stretched well down the hallway and was about like a normal turnout when everybody is in one line. The A-K line was about 3 or 4 times as long.
This is in a heavily Republican area. If that’s any indication of Republican turnout today, then I like our chances.
I think Obama has really motivated the electorate. The problem for him is a lot of those motivated people are saying “Hell no!” to having him for president.

Why should we have to choose? I voted for him for both reasons, plus the fact that I am full of white guilt.
I passed a polling place in a church facility near my work @ 6:30 this morning. The parking lot was full and at least 50 people were lined up outside. The polls don’t even open until 7:00 here.
