Fairness Doctrine Watch: Schumer likens conservative opinion to pornography (vid added)

Lots of readers have been alerting me to Chuck Schumer’s comments on Fox News this morning, reportedly comparing conservative opinion to pornography that needs to be regulated. Fairness Doctrine here we come.

Asked if he is a supporter of telling radio stations what content they should have, Schumer used the fair and balanced line, claiming that critics of the Fairness Doctrine are being inconsistent.
“The very same people who don’t want the Fairness Doctrine want the FCC [Federal Communications Commission] to limit pornography on the air. I am for that… But you can’t say government hands off in one area to a commercial enterprise but you are allowed to intervene in another. That’s not consistent.”
In 2007, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), a close ally of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told The Hill, “It’s time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine. I have this old-fashioned attitude that when Americans hear both sides of the story, they’re in a better position to make a decision.”
Senate Rules Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) last year said, “I believe very strongly that the airwaves are public and people use these airwaves for profit. But there is a responsibility to see that both sides and not just one side of the big public questions of debate of the day are aired and are aired with some modicum of fairness.”
Conservatives fear that forcing stations to make equal time for liberal talk radio would cut into profits so significantly that radio executives would opt to scale back on conservative radio programming to avoid escalating costs and interference from the FCC.
They also note that conservative radio shows has been far more successful than liberal ones.

Conservatives want to conserve that which has always made America great:
individual liberty coupled with individual responsibility
small government
free market
freedom of speech/religion/the press/etc
freedom of property
freedom of movement

they will.
I have said for quite sometime that if Dems got all the control they would then turn on each other. They are simply various gimme groups who have banded together to transform our country into a Socialist one.
If they win big today, watch the infighting begin soon.

The “fairness doctrine” is unconstitutional and blatantly UnAmerican. The fact that liberals like Schumer, Mrs. Clinton, and others can even contemplate a “fairness doctrine” says a lot about the mentality of these elitist snobs. Not only are they not Americans in their thinking, wishes, and desires, one has to wonder if they are even from this planet.
Whenever liberals lambast conservative principles a simple question needs to be posed to them – “How far down your family tree do you have to climb to find ancestors that lived their entire lives by the very conservative principles you so despise”? There probably aren’t many liberals alive that don’t have a parent or grandparent that fought to defend freedom in the 2nd WW or that worked somewhere in the war industry building the weapons/supplies that won the war. Chances are their grandparents or Aunts, uncles, cousins, etc went to church, owned a gun, taught their children traditional family values, believed a man’s word was his bond, believed a handshake was a good enough contract, and believed in the principle that by hard work and modest living they could build a better life for themselves and their kin. I laugh at the fools that mock Sarah Palin for holding these values, because chances are good that one or two generations back the fools have kinfolk that would get along quite nicely with Sarah Palin both as friend and neighbor. Chances are highly likely Schumer has such ancestors. By his statement, is Schumer calling his ancestors pornographers? Liberals are so shallow and pathetic.
Hopefully the election will go the right way and we won’t have to worry about it. But, just in case, I have a shortwave radio so I can huddle in my basement and tune in ‘Radio Free Rush’ when he’s forced to put a pirate transmitter on a barge outside the territorial waters.

Never mind the fact he said Ayers the terrorist was just a guy from the neighborhood. He also said he would take public financing. He also said he wouldn’t run for president until his senate term was up.
Schumer and all of the Obamatards are the ones that SCREAM “just turn the TV off” when someone complains about too much sex and violence on TV.
Now, conservative views and opinions are being heard by millions of people. So why don’t they just say “turn the radio off?”
Because, they don’t believe in free speech. It is that simple. Bombard us with sex and violence on TV but when we want to hear like-minded individuals on the radio, we can’t.
The democrats have ALWAYS stood for slavery, anti-civil rights, deprevation of constitutional rights, segregation, etc.

I just saw the Schumer clip. My response to Schumer, Durban, and the other liberal supporters of the “fairness doctrine” is that they should learn how to get their message out on their own and not parasitize conservative enterprises. Don’t they realize how disgusting and loathsome parasites are? Come to think of it, parasitism and socialism have a lot in common. You work hard and innovate, and I will take some of it from you without having to work hard at all. I hope the parasites (i.e., liberals) don’t take over this country today.

Should Obama become president the democrats have 2 years to wreck this country, introduce the fairness doctrine, etc before the Senate is re-taken by the republicans and the Obama becomes the lame One. This is going to be a ton of fun because it is going to get ugly very quickly and turn into teh best “hollywood” spectacle ever!
The amount of moral equivalency espoused by the left is truly mind boggling. How twisted is ones mind when they view porn on TV the same as political opinion on the radio? Unreal.

These cretins realistically don’t need a new “fairness doctrine.” The new administration will be able to appoint a new FCC Commissioner. He makes the rules for what hits the airwaves.

I hope the conservative members of the SCOUS eat right, exercise, stop smoking if they do, and live a clean life. Because if they are replaced by libs, the court will stay that way for the next few generations. The dems will control the executive, legislative and judicial branches of this once-great country.

It’s amazing that they are so blinded by their own quest for power, that they can’t see that Americans are still being duped into voting for this empty suit candidate of theirs, they will probably win, and that’s still not enough proof for them that debate and discourse is alive and well.
It’s about control of that which they cannot. But, if it’s fairness they want, then we should be able to rebut ANY and ALL items that come out of NBC, CBS, and ABC — FREE OF CHARGE. Perhaps we SHOULD trade a little radio time for free TV time. We’ll just make sure that our spokespeople are those who are having their radio time cut and give them the opportunity to use the government’s small-minded program against them. Heck, let’s make sure that newspapers (USA Today, NYT, Boston Globe, LA Times) are also fair and balanced. We can write too you know!

How bright, I mean REALLY how f**ing bright can this guy be if he doesnt understand the difference between the regulation of “on the air” pornography, and the First Amendment destroying piece of legislation known as the “Fairness Doctrine”. Of course naming it the “Fairness Doctrine” (a game libs play all the time, giving their lame ideas nice names) will elicit the appropriate drooling response from the moronic dem constituency; that they cannot understand why someone would be against something called the “Fairness Doctrine”. Back in the late 70’s when I attended the USC School of Journalism, we had to study the Fairness Doctrine as a class. We concuded it was hard to evaluate, and harder to enforce. Enforcement back then was rare, but consisted of putting broadcast licenses in jeopardy. My guess is that the fairness docrine will be resurrected to chill talk radio by forcing ownership to reevaluate the brain damage and costs of compliance.
Dogshot – Last time I looked, the legislative branch passed the laws not the President. You really think Obama will veto fairness doctrine legislation? I thought not.
