Fairness Doctrine Watch: Schumer likens conservative opinion to pornography (vid added)

Lots of readers have been alerting me to Chuck Schumer’s comments on Fox News this morning, reportedly comparing conservative opinion to pornography that needs to be regulated. Fairness Doctrine here we come.

Asked if he is a supporter of telling radio stations what content they should have, Schumer used the fair and balanced line, claiming that critics of the Fairness Doctrine are being inconsistent.
“The very same people who don’t want the Fairness Doctrine want the FCC [Federal Communications Commission] to limit pornography on the air. I am for that… But you can’t say government hands off in one area to a commercial enterprise but you are allowed to intervene in another. That’s not consistent.”
In 2007, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), a close ally of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told The Hill, “It’s time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine. I have this old-fashioned attitude that when Americans hear both sides of the story, they’re in a better position to make a decision.”
Senate Rules Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) last year said, “I believe very strongly that the airwaves are public and people use these airwaves for profit. But there is a responsibility to see that both sides and not just one side of the big public questions of debate of the day are aired and are aired with some modicum of fairness.”
Conservatives fear that forcing stations to make equal time for liberal talk radio would cut into profits so significantly that radio executives would opt to scale back on conservative radio programming to avoid escalating costs and interference from the FCC.
They also note that conservative radio shows has been far more successful than liberal ones.

As my brother-in-law wrote to his Member of Congress, if they try to bring back the UNFairness Doctrine, the Million-Man March will look like a walk in the park in comparison to the protests that will descend on Washington.
If the leftist governmet attempts to strip us of our right to free speech and political dissent then all the rules of decorum go out the window and it’s every man/woman for themselves.
Folks, this is the true agenda of the Democrat Left. It’s an affront to free-speech and it’s very real, coming from a powerful senator. If you haven’t voted already, vote President McCain and retain your right to free-speech through divided government.

I did not expect to see any version of the ‘fairness’ doctrine make a return, until I saw the gleefull joy in Schumer’s eye at the thought of controlling other peoples free speach.

You know what’s sad? These people can’t “grab” power, it has to be given to them. The depressing fact of the matter is that almost half… possibly more than half… of the people in this country want them in power.
First the Fairness doctrine, then the Special Civil Force (SCF), then the supression of all illegal news, constitutional change, followed by the closure and criminialization of organizations and groups counter to the government, outlawing of the unions and last but not least, arrest of those cutting into the food lines.
Schumer’s face is worse than the most vile pornography. Since’s he’s up for reelection in 2010, he should be the GOP’s No. 1 target.
Granted, it’s NY, but maybe Rudy can run for that seat.

As for his reasoning on removing the secret ballot provisions in regards to union voting, which were that there are ‘just not enough union members in the private sector’, it would seem to not be a big jump for him to apply that same logic to people that just dont vote along his party’s political lines.
I do think that once he has established ‘open’ voting for unions, it will be a ‘natural’ progression for Schumer to push for ‘open’ elections for all political issues as well.
It was also clear Schumer has no issue supporting the unions that dominate ALL government jobs. Out here in Californai, it is in fact these unions that are a major part of destroying the state government.

People – I don’t know the complete answer to surviving an Obama/Reid/Pelosi administration but I have a suggestion, a return to Federalism.
The Founders intended that the states remain sovereign entities with the role of the Federal government limited to international affairs and defense. The Fed long ago usurped the Constitutional primacy of the states and its time to take it back.
We Conservatives need to work at the state level to elect officials that will fight to restore the 10th Amendment rights of the states to their proper place otherwise the Marxists will continue to run roughshod over our liberty.
AZ is voting today on Prop 101 that if successful will be a shot across the bow of the Fed by exempting AZ from any national health care plan.
Earlier this year OK fired its own shot by passing almost unanimously a bill that basically told the Fed to go to Hell regarding the Fed’s attempt to overturn an illegal immigration law passed by OK.
I personally plan to write every single GOP state representative in every single Red state to urge them to form a 10th Amendment Coalition. I do not want my life dictated by Leftists in CA, NY, NJ, and their radical associates.
I urge everyone to work hard to solidify the Conservative base in all Red states.

I still can’t figure out how pornography ever got included with free political speech to begin with…
Remember when C-Span went to divvying up callers based on repub/dem/other. Totally changed the tenor of the callins. Even though I love Brian Lamb, I had to suspect him a bit after that! After that, the callins were no longer a truly representative sample of the callers. Why change that?
My state only has Democrats for Senate and House. God is not something they fear.
Conservatives want to conserve that which has always made America great:
individual liberty coupled with individual responsibility
small government
free market
freedom of speech/religion/the press/etc
freedom of property
freedom of movement
you get the picture
they will.
I have said for quite sometime that if Dems got all the control they would then turn on each other. They are simply various gimme groups who have banded together to transform our country into a Socialist one.
