The One ascends; McCain concedes

Well, it’s official. Barack Obama has been elected President of the United States. Fox and NBC have called the race.
It’s a historic moment.
Congratulations.
Here’s my promise to you: As long as I can still publish a blog and speak my mind openly about the next denizen of the White House, I will.
First order of business: He can now change the “0″ to a “1.”

Second order of business: Will he bring the Greek columns out for Inauguration Day?

Commenter Valiant: “Third order of business: De-brand the GOP of McCain and the idea that we need a RINO because ‘he can win.’ Never again.”
***
11:26pm Eastern. McCain concedes: “I will not spend a moment regretting for a moment what might have been.” Mention of Sarah Palin gets the loudest applause.
11:43pm Eastern. A few general notes on tonight’s outcome:
*Obama’s popular vote total is a lot smaller than most polls showed.
*The Senate GOP massacre was not as bad as expected. Still waiting on Minnesota and Oregon and a few others.
*The ballot initiatives are a bellwether. Gay marriage and racial preferences are electoral losers. (Update: Nebraska civil rights initiative passes; too close to call in Colorado.)
*Pandering on amnesty did not help McCain. In California, McCain won a whopping 16 percent of the Latino vote. (Update: now 21 percent.) By comparison, Pete Wilson managed 23 percent of the Hispanic vote in 1994 (the same year the much-loathed Prop. 187 passed).
Democrats won the White House, but they do not have an unfettered mandate for left-wing policies across the board.
Republicans need to learn from their losses. First step: Don’t put the same old, same old capitulationists and re-branding pimps in leadership positions.
You know the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

President Bush congratulates Obama: “Awesome.”
12:01am Eastern. Obama is giving his victory speech in front of more American flags than ever. Congratulates McCain and Palin.
Oh, man. He just thanked The Vice President-Elect of the United States, Joe Biden, and The Nation’s Next First Lady, Michelle Obama.
Oh, man.
He thanks his daughters (who will get a new puppy) and his other family members.
Thanks David Plouffe and David Axelrod.
“The challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime.” Here we go: mortgages, college education, saving the planet. “Our climb will be steep.”
But don’t worry, Peggy, you’ll get your gas and bills paid!
12:11am Eastern. Obama addresses opponents: “I will be your president, too.” Then he turns to his real constitutency: Citizens of the World. “There’s a new dawn in America.”
Fidel Castro applauds.
Obama’s now leading a creepy, cult-ish “Yes, We Can” call and refrain.
Obama declares it the new national creed.

Exactly how big an idiot are you? Our brand of conservatism didn’t have a horse in this race. McCain is no conservative, and no one on this site has ever claimed that he is… he was the Republican candidate. It’s not the same thing.
We wanted a conservative… we got a liberal who just happens to be less liberal than your crooked candidate. Oh well… I plan to enjoy the new exploding underground economy, because I’m not paying one red cent for your stupid social programs if I can help it.
Gloat while you can, troll. You’ll eventually end up with less than you’ve started with, too.
Oh, my. What am I going to tell my soldier?
It’s a slap in the face to those who’ve dedicated their lives to supporting this country. This is how those who have never sacrificed anything say thanks.
Will we be around to clean up the mess? I’m tired of being the only adult in the room.
Folks should start looking into reviving the local BBS systems of the bygone days of the ’80s; once the Fairness Doctrine kicks in and the ‘net get censored, we’ll need some way of keeping in touch, at least locally. Also, see about setting up a “Pony Express” that can take memory-sticks of the best Conservative thought into non-local areas so it can be spread and read.
There’s nothing quite as nauseating as seeing all the American flags being waved at Obama’s rally.
Flags waved by people who voted to reject everything this country was founded on and has stood for for over 200 years.
Right now, I really hate my fellow countrymen.
What hath God wrought?? Ladies and Gentlemen, the Republic is dead. We now have a Muslim Marxist in the White House.
We must immediately begin to remake the Republican party, toss out every stinking one of these “I’m going to be non offensive” RINO SOB’s and make it a truly conservative party.
It will not take long for Obama to begin to erode this country and it’s constitution. I take the under on April ‘09 for the remorse to set in.
Dear God what have we done??!!
Because you did not spend a moment in the entire campaign acting like you wanted to win. You let the party down, you let Governor Palin down, and you let your campaign down. Screw you.
Yes, I will regret what might have been.
Remember, the Republicans were once a third party. Is it that time again? Republicans supporting the “lesser of two evils” candidates the last six times has gotten a bit old. Let’s face it: Reagan was an anomaly. Guys like Mike Pence, Ted Poe, Jim DeMint, Duncan Hunter and the like need to seriously consider breaking away and forming a new “conservative” (not of the McCain sort) party.
Maybe the first order of business when Congress reconvenes, is to move the nations capitol to San Francisco D.C.
Jesus. Obama’s a lot of things, but he’s not a Muslim. Please stop that.
Gotta get up early for work and face my union brethren…not looking forward to that. I have to say, God is still on the Throne, Jesus is still Lord. Just not of some people I thought He was…but prayer still changes things. And situations. We, unfortunately, may get the chance to say I told you so, next spring when the manure hits the spreader. We failed as a nation as an employer by hiring an unqualified employee. We all know some consequences of that in our daily lives. This may be our deserved trip to the woodshed.
Love to all and to Michelle. Love to USA. She and we will survive. As we know Winston Churchill said, “Never, never, never give up”. We can’t. Too much at stake. Someone has to pick up the pieces and put it back together when Obama and his Obamaites panic at their first test. Semper Fi…
Obama may hold the office but I will never place the word President in front of his name as long as he refuses to uphold and follow the Constitution of the United States. I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution and I will till my dying day.

I guess Ill see you back right at the place we are in now in 2012, because we are obviously not going to learn a lesson…. It is better to have 20 at 90% then 1 at 100%.
After a taste of what’s coming I don’t think people will be staying on their high horse to hold out for that 100% in 2012. I just hope the country can get through it. It is going to take forever to undo the damage that they will do.
When will they start turning over the cars and a setting fires and looting?
I believe the correct description is “Atheist masquerading as a Christian.”
Get ready for the worst president since FDR, comrades. The only gratifying thing is that he wiped up the floor with the Clintons. And could there have been a worse candidate than John McCain? Whoever thought this stiff had any hope is a total idiot. Ron Paul in 2012 – he’s the only one who gets it. Good night and dream of better days.
Our Constitution – Obama wants to “change it, rearrange it”.
Our Constitution – It protect us from Obama, but only if we defend it and enforce it…Obama has yet to produce a Birth Certificate proving that he meets the Constitutional pre-requisite of being a Natural Born Citizen of the United States of America.
This lawsuit before the United States Supreme Court goes on:

Thank you to all the posters who have worked hard and to those who hit the streets today at polls, phone banks etc.

Seems to me everyone knows what they did or did not do to bring about this outcome in the privacy of their heart.
Cheers to you all let us celebrate our

So now that The Obama will be making His ascent am I correct in stating that He can’t vote “present” any longer?

Mike Huckabee gets it.
Also, seeing as we have to gird our loins for four years (God please be with us, Obama definitely knows not what he does…), when we face potential crisis how will the media react?…with collective leg tingles and cow-eyed stares at his amazement?

I agree with you, tuffy. As a military wife, I’ve felt the painful sting of ostracism by an American public who likes to say how much they appreciate you to your face and then stick a dagger in your back when they think they’ve conned you. The American people have no respect for the military. I’ve never felt it and I don’t believe it. They’ll sell anybody they can down the river so they can get their freebies. What about the rest of us who work hard while they’ve sat on their asses bellyaching about how their welfare payments and inadequate salary couldn’t afford them a McMansion?
This election was a sham. It’s a turn away from reason into madness. There’s no insightfulness in a people who’ve decided they’re gonna feast on the freebies while they can.
….While the rest of us military families struggle and carry on through the American people’s ignorance.
And yet, you know they will. There is even a chance McCain will become minority leader, as a reward for a good and honorable campaign.
You might as well laugh.
This will be Carter’s 2nd term.
Or in January when Obama takes the helm will the cooks of the world pass the “Hitler” nickname on to him?
I am with all of you who see this as a chance to rebuild the conservative movement. A grassroots campaign to take back the party from the RINO’s. But where to begin. I imagine in the near term there will be organizations which will spring up to facilitate taking our party back with an eye on 2010 then 2012. That is, of course, if Obama does not have himself installed as fuhrer before then.
Tomorrow will be a utopian dawn.
End of racism.
With income redistribution, no one will live in poverty.
End of high-energy prices. Global cooling begins.
End of foreign oil dependence.
World will be blanketed with peace: Iran and Israel will coexist peace4fully.
Our troops will be back home by June 2010.
Now the memo to the Republican party and McShamnesty:
McCain has done enough harm to the party with his maverick baloney. Time after time he was used by the Democrats into achieving their goals.
“Bipartisanship works only if it benefits Democrats.”
If he has any sense of decency, he should resign from the senate and retire gracefully.
All of the RINOs should receive the same fate as McCain.
They have become the liberals.
Under Bush, we have the largest government in the history of our nation, deficit doubling from 5 trillion to 10 now, biggest financial meltdown under Bush’s watch,…
We should turn this defeat into an opportunity to turn back our party back to its roots.
We need another Gingrich to lead a second Republican revolution.
Just posted on my Facebook status that the day my kids come home from (public) school singing a song they learned about The One, I’m yanking them out and homeschooling.
He may very well not be as ruinous as we think, but I’m not letting my guard down once for the next 4 years.
Ick. Another mouthy First Lady who will probably want to get involved in policy making…
Now he’s all for the Dreams of the Founders.

reichstagcongress and blaming it on us?This is the result of the MSM and the apathy and ignorance of the public, who know nothing about him, but absorbed the 24/7 brainwashing by the the swooning, drooling, fawning adoring main stream media who overlooked everything that was important.
There will be many who regret their vote.
I think I’m going to be sick.
Surely there is a silver lining. We survived Carter, right? And Clinton. And every other incompetent president. We will continue to survive.
If anything, this will make Conservatives more vigilant than ever before. We will NOT allow this man to run roughshod over us. We will fight. We will no longer be the silent majority.
Perhaps, in the end, this will make us stronger. As Rush says, we had to have 4 years of Carter to get 8 years of Reagan.
I still wanna see BHO’s REAL birth certificate. What’s he got to hide, hmmmmmmm???

They will find any and all dirt on you.
Then you’ll just disappear. Clean Slate.

Did he thank fraud, too?
A big FU to the republican party. You have spent the last 8 years destroying this once great nation. You got what you deserved.
OMG.
The people get what they deserve.
Only God knows what will happen next.
Barack Hussein Obama gets no quarter or congatulations here.
Not my president. No longer my country. Those of you who voted for this can have it.
Me too, I don’t know if this is true, but I heard that there is another lawsuit in Hawaii concerning that the sealed birth certificate is a facsimile copy. The suit is against the state of Hawaii and not BHO and the state has to show that they did not lie about government records. The suit supposedly is brought Nov 17, i don’t know if it is true, so don’t spread the rumor wildly.
Jindal in 2012.
If RINOs keep demanding the party run increasingly left-wing candidates, there won’t be any 2012 to worry about, Bill, because they will have learned the wrong lesson.
I think I’ve gone through the 12 steps tonight.
Denial, that this great country could elect a socialist
Anger, that people can be so hoodwinked
and on and on. And I’ve finally reached my final step. Starting tomorrow, I’m going to start writing the GOP to explain just what happened. I don’t want them to think for one minute that McCain lost because he was too conservative. They need to understand that we need to get back to real values. People should want to work hard.
My husband works at UTMB, which was devistated by Ike. And he’s facing a pay cut. After we saw that Obama won, all he could say is that a paycut might not be that bad, he’ll be taking home the same money in the end.
That’s not what our country is all about. And I’m still willing to fight. Obama is NOT my president.
Long live conservatives!!
I disagree. In my opinion, Carter and LBJ were both marxist/socialist presidents, and FDR was darn close.
There goes my college fund.
I think we can all agree with you on this one..THANKS MICHELLE FOR ALL YOU DO!!! Be safe and watch your back….
Palin/Jindal ‘12 & ‘16!!!
Jindal/Bachmann ‘20 & ‘24!!!
Emjem! Thank you. I was feeling alone in the wilderness for a second there.
After Obama bankrupts the coal industry, as he said he intends to do, you won’t be able to afford to run your VCR. But that will be a moot point if there isn’t even any current running to your house.
All hail this historic moment of humanity lurching into a new Dark Ages.
Note: “Dark Ages” is a reference to the historical period identified as such, and has no racial connotation.
In the years to come, if I go to Baskin-Robbins and order vanilla rather than chocolate, will I have to qualify that choice as not having any racial connotation? Well, there’s another moot point…keeping ice cream cold requires lots of electricity. Hey, maybe we’ll see a return of 19th-century icehouses, especially with global temperatures dropping!
oh and for the 1st time in my 57 years as a US citizen, I am totally disgusted by my nation and it’s people…present company and all patriots who fought this corrupt take over excepted of course…
Saw a great comment at LGF. Someone said,

I’m watching his speech and he actually said…”remake america” and “we will not go back to how things were done for 200 years”.

Yeah, I am tired of cleaning up other peoples messes too. I am tired of paying my mortgage when other people don’t have to. Losing my IRA when they get my tax dollars. And yeah, it is a goddamned slap in the face. Half of this country has been like a tic riding on a dogs ass with the audacity to demand a say in where the dog sits. The damned thing is that THEY ARE GETTING THAT SAY tonight.
Tell your soldier you love him and tell yourself that we are not licked until we quit. Tell him that I said thanks too.
1. God’s last name isn’t damn.
2. Considering what Bush (the lesser of two evils in 2000 and 2004) did to the Republican party, considering the losses suffered in Congress in 2006 and tonight, you should be thanking me for voting for an actual “conservative” instead of McCain who would have further destroyed whatever shred of goodness that exists in the Republican party.
3. What do you honestly think would have happened if McCain got elected? He would have: A) assured the passing of amnesty, which would have forever changed the face of America, B) enacted more socialistic policies as Bush has done (bailout? social welfare? nationalized banking? federalized credit?), C) enacted Global Warming reduction policies, D) given use more judges like Ginsburg and Breyer (whom he voted to confirm)… Need I continue? And here’s the best part: after these policies failed the country, he would have taken the blame for it (just as Bush has done), which would have ensured an Obama presidency in 2012, more lost Congressional seats in 2010 and 2012, hence resulting in even more damage. I’m thinking about the long term, not just this one election.
Amazing.
Home sales just shot up, completely reversing the housing crisis.
There are no longer any homeless people or people living in poverty.
Wow, Obama is good.
He’s kept saying “it’s our time”, “it’s our moment”. He’s talking about black america punishing whitey and changing the constitution to start down the road to reperations through taxes.
I used to hate what the Baby Boomers (i.e. Hippies) did to our country and I always held on to the hope that GenX would restore some sanity to this country. I was mistaken. I now hold GenX and GenY with more contempt.
But I still have to blame the Boomers for the destruction of our education system.
Trollman – true enough. But I also do blame the media. I’m in Texas, and I did’t even vote in the primary because it was all sown up. I’m just hoping there’s enough of an uproar that a REAL conservative has a chance. Not a Bush, not a Dole, but a REAL conservative.
Say what you will, and I don’t agree with his war policy, but I have a dinner with Ron Paul as the speaker next Tuesday. It will be interesting to see what he says about all this.
1. I’m interested to see what he’s going to do when he actually has to make a decision, or is actually tested.
2. Obama’s one thing, but Joe Biden is one person I absolutely cannot stomach. I hope they continue to keep him hidden for the next 4 years.
How can you lose when you have the support of Mickey Mouse and Jive Turkey?
I want to see the demands for investigating the sources of Obama’s campaign donations. How many did George Soros have working fulltime making less than $200 donations from untraceable credit cards? Iran? Hamas?

I expect for this democratic congress to change the term limits, through a constitutional amendment, of the office of the president. He will soon become a dictator.
ABC keeps talking about ‘white white white white” and how there were 43 white presidents. Man white people must really suck!
Also, everyone on all channels keep talking about the “youth” vote. I’m sorry but talk to any “youth” on the street and their intelligence seems to be lower than my dog and their ignorance of, even about current events, is high. How can you trust the youth vote when they don’t even know simple history?
Unqualified and undocumented.

From the London Times
Four reasons why America went for Obama
The old politics has been swept away because the voters themselves have changed: they are richer, smarter and less white
Hubby just told me that on BET they feel the need to remind their viewers that tomorrow is not a holiday, they actually have to SHOW UP for work tomorrow.
Thank you Michelle, we will never let them silence you.
We survived FDR, LBJ, and Carter. We can survive this guy. The country may be a little weaker in four years, but as long as freedom exists – we can overcome. Don’t forget the past – we still stand on the shoulders of giants.
I will do my part and work for 2010 and 2012, starting tomorrow. Conservatism will never die!
I turned off the results way at the beginning. I just could not bear to watch this country become what the blinded sheep have decided to make it.
What I have seen is the victory of the sound-bite over actual facts and actual investigative reporting. People have flocked to this like a crackhead to free crack.
I have witnessed something that I, in a million years would never have imagined…the country actually going for Socialism in a way that Karl Marx himself could never have even hoped to dream. The ease with which they have turned over their freedom and their rights for the false hope of handouts and freebies made me ill.
I watched as one candidate who was chosen for us by the media was defeated by the other candidate that was not just chosen, but created by them.
This election was far from what a Democracy OR a Republic is meant to be. This was a referendum on the Cult of Personality. this was a referendum on how easily people in this country can be swayed by greed and laziness.
Yes, it is tempting to use the same adage that the Left has used for 8 years and say, “He’s not MY President…I didn’t vote for him”, but I DO believe in the Constitution and like it or not, we are all stuck with him and all that he will do to this Nation for the next four years. My heart most definitely goes out to the men and women in the military and all that they will now face with having to surrender to our enemies. The bright side to his slashing of the military is that people won’t be losing their careers, as you can be assured that recruitment levels will never be lower.
You bought into him, you enjoy him, but when you are all wondering how someone like him could have possible duped so many and become President without anyone knowing about his true nature and plans, don’t come crying to us…you only have yourselves to blame.
Unfortunately, the rest of us are along for the long, dark, painful ride ahead.
Thank you Michelle, and we will all fight for your brand of Conservatism even harder now, if that is even possible.
No more Moderates. We have all seen just what they mean and are worth.
God Bless Ronald Reagan.
A few more good things that come from this:
1. Obama can’t amend the Constitution without the states. (Won’t happen.)
2. Illinois has the chance to replace Obama as a Senator. (Then again,
my great stateChicago did re-elect Dicky Durbin.)3. Hopefully, we won’t have to listen to how “racist” white people are since we now have a half-black president-elect. (Sorry, Al, Jesse, you’re out of business.)
4. Honestly, Obama only has two years with which to screw things up. Hopefully, “conservatives” will have gotten their act together by 2010 after the country gets a greater taste of
socialismpain.Anybody else have the feeling that obama’s puppet strings are being pulled by white people? Look at who he surrounded himself with. Even his campain manager is the whitest guy I’ve ever seen.
The left is using Obama.
Bill Grant, You, sir, are the Girl Whisperer! That’s exactly what I’m going to tell him. Thank you.
I’m sorry about your nephew. It’s amazing how a family tradition can be dashed overnight. Put on hold, maybe? It makes me sad.
With any luck, Obama will continue to be all rhetoric and no substance. Simply because he says he will do things does not make them so.
I refuse to believe all is lost.

I misunderstood what my son had said in his letter this morning. I took what he said to mean he had actually given in to Liberal Academia and voted for the Tarnished Bovine.
I could not have been more wrong, and now I could not be more proud of him. Turns out he really did take my words to heart when I told him that ultimately he needed to be able to live with the person he sees in the mirror every day, and to vote his conscience. He did that just fine.
He actually did a write in for a Republican Candidate.
I freakin cried with pride.
Well, the Dems can have the moment. Reality is likely to hit like a bad hangover soon. And the next four years may indeed be a nightmere of the Jimmy Carter sort. That’s my bet anyway. I hope we have all learned from this and that a rebuilding begins, we toss out all of our own fence straddlers and those who have shown they will drop principle for re-election. If that does not work, it is time for a new party.
