So, who supported the traditional marriage initiative in California?
Black and Latino Obama voters, according to exit polls.

California’s black and Latino voters, who turned out in droves for Barack Obama, provided key support for a state ban on same-sex marriage. Christian, married and older voters also helped give the measure the winning edge, according to exit polls for The Associated Press.
Proposition 8 overturns a May California Supreme Court decision legalizing gay nuptials and rewrites the state constitution to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman.
Exit poll data showed seven in 10 black voters and more than half of Latino voters backed the ballot initiative, while whites and Asians were split.
Though blacks and Latinos combined make up less than one-third of California’s electorate, their opposition to same-sex marriage appeared to tip the balance. Both groups decisively backed Obama regardless of their position on the initiative.
Obama has said he is not in favor of gay marriage but supports civil unions. The president-elect opposed Proposition 8.
Religious voters also were decisive in getting Proposition 8 passed. Of the seven in 10 voters who described themselves as Christian, two-thirds backed the initiative. Ninety percent of voters who said they had no religious affiliation opposed the measure, but they were a much smaller portion of the electorate.
Denise Fernandez, a 57-year-old African-American from Sacramento, said she voted for Obama but felt especially compelled to cast a ballot this year to support Proposition 8.
“I came out because of my religious beliefs. I believe a Christian is held accountable, and we have to make a difference,” Fernandez said.
Keep this in mind when you hear liberals ranting about the homophobic, intolerant California voters who oppose gay marriage.

Too late, as they were protesting yesterday in the LA area, and some things got out of hand, and people were arrested. Signs carrying “haters” were all over the place. If you don’t agree with the puny minority in the state, then you’re either a racist or a bigot. That’s the typical MO. I personally don’t care what I’m called anymore.
The one interesting thing to note is that most Hispanics and black voters typically agree on social issues coming from the conservatives.
Republicans or conservatives need to change the “give me” mentality in order to make some inroads into this community going forward.
The Californians won’t mind just like the folks in Pennsylvania don’t mind being called rednecks and racists. They get their news from Jon Stewart so they will probably never actually hear about it.

I predicted Prop 8 would pass for this very reason. I’ve worked alongside blacks and talked things with them, and on many social issues they are as conservative as we are. I’m of Hispanic background and I know Latinos are not big on gay marriage at all.
I think conservatives, especially social conservatives, need to look at this as an opportunity. For too long we expect conservative values to rain down from the Republicans we elect. This shows on-the-ground organization and a willingness to reach out to those who have common cause with us on something, even if they otherwise don’t vote for Republicans, can bring about results.

So basically the black community agrees with conservatives on abortion, gays, and immigration. . . but McCain thought that all he would have to do to get their support was apologize for his vote against the MLK national holiday on his birthday in Memphis.
They don’t so much care about that as they do about the other conservative issues that he’d have done better to champion.

It took a couple of tries. We the People of CA voted back in 2000 (if memory serves) to define marriage as between a man and a woman. That was overturned in a 4-3 decision at the state supreme court. I’m sure that most of the pro-8 votes were by folks of all races and religions (and even sexual orientations believe it or not) who were voting to support traditional values, but some of us (me at least) were mainly opposed to the concept of judicial activism and needed to make a statement to that effect.

Personally, I liked prop 8 when it was called prop 22 eight years ago. Of course, that prop passed almost 2-1, but the legislating activist judges in NoCal, fresh off of defying the 2-1 will of the people on prop 187, decided that prop 22 was “unconstitutional.”
Now that the state constitution has been amended, do you think they can claim the same? They already are.
In my opinion, if California would respect the will of its citizens, it wouldn’t be such a jacked-up mess. Since they don’t, I packed my family up in ‘06 and left. I now live in a state that respects the rule of law, the voice of the people, and my 2nd amendment rights.
I say “adios” to California, and only return for business or family gatherings.

Marriage is defined in Webster’s as between a man and a woman, defined by God as between a man and a woman, the definition is set.
Romans 1:29-32 sums up the standard for decisions, so much that even those who approve of the immoral actions are guilty.

The Baltic States and Poland are NATO Members. So they are off the table for Russia.
Ukraine and Georgia have applied for NATO memebership. Both are of strategic importance to NATO.

I’m tired of having the homosexual lifestyle shoved in my face, with spokespeople telling me that it is “natural.” It is not natural. If it was, then why can’t gay/homosexual couples procreate with each other without having a surrogate to provide sperm or an egg? Because it is NOT what nature intended.
This whole argument is about sex, not love, not procreation, and certainly not about “rights.” Currently, homosexuals, as well as other minority groups, benefit from super-rights not extended to heterosexuals. All I ask for is equal rights for all citizens. California already has a “Civil Union” law that addresses the partnership benefit issues. It is one of, if not the strongest in the U.S.
Homosexuals DO have the right to marry, as do heterosexuals. But for it to be labeled “marriage” they must marry someone of the opposite sex. That has never been taken away from them. Should they “choose” to join with a partner of the same sex, that type of union, in California, is afforded the same legal benefits as is afforded to traditional marriage.
For the record, I have no problem with unisex couples, but please, stop trying to tell me that you just want to be treated equally, when clearly you do not.

To keep on topic, I did vote in favor of Proposition 8, and spent some time canvassing on behalf of Prop. 8. I’m not at all surprised at the court challenges against it. Since I feel that the Calif. Supreme Court’s reasoning to legalize SSM was weak and flawed in the first place, I do fear that they’ll use some weak and flawed reasoning to declare Prop. 8 unconstitutional. Unfortunately, the battle is far from over.
Anybody know when the four Supreme Court justices who overruled Prop 22 are due for their confirmation vote?
Who’s idea was it to eliminate marriage from the state and have all couples enter into a contract, then if they choose to do so, they can participate in marriage ceremony in their church? I’m in favor of that idea. Separation of church and state, and it protects the church.

It looks like we have another word in America that the group can ‘own’ but nobody else can say or it is an offensive ‘hate crime’.
The only reason that blacks even put up with gays at all is because of their support for civil rights changes. They seem to have seen the gay community as the ‘white people who care about civil rights’.
To me, it never seemed as though the blacks wanted to ally with the gays. But Jesse Jackson’s ‘rainbow coalition’ appealed to the gays too.
Anyway, gay people should actually feel fortunate that the black community doesn’t act out their feelings toward gays. The most hostility I’ve ever heard against gay people have come from black people. . . but they appreciate the support for civil rights.
And the protests against Churches will hold a lot more sway if they start attacking Mosques too. Imagine the irony of a group of gay people being arrested for a hate crime for attacking a Mosque.

Here in Wisconsin, the Journal Sentinel claimed that because the majority of stupid Milwaukee voters passed a sales tax referendum, they penned an article titled “People have spoken“, basically saying that the majority voted for a tax increase, so stop whining.
Funny how with liberals, when the majority votes how they like it…we have to get used to it. Respect the will of the majority and all that.
But when the majority votes how they don’t like…sue! Go to the courts! The opinion of the minority must be respected! Blah, blah, blah…

As far as I can tell, obama has no record of decision making – tough, consistent or otherwise. he has consistently pandered to the welfare and victim classes – and he feels their pain. I suspect that his first and only instinct in an international crisis would be to run to the UN for some type of sanction. If there is a terrorist attack on the US, he will send the FBI to investigate dead terrorists much like Clinton did.
And for those of you who happen to inhabit Western Europe, you have now lost “Pax America” and you had better increase your defense spending as you are on your own.

Gays don’t need to create their own church – many sects of Christianity actually live up to their name, and do as Jesus would, and don’t hate and disrespect gay people. The Anglican church, the UCC, for example. And the worshippers at these churches don’t decide to tell gay families in a large state that they don’t approve of their existence when they get the chance.
Just imagine how absolutely devastated you would feel if (first of all) your marriage was put to a vote, and secondly, the people voted that your relationship just wasn’t “right” enough for them. Just imagine how much pain and suffering that must cause. Just imagine how horrible gay couples up and down California state are feeling right about now. I know a gay couple in San Diego and my heart is broken for them.

I wish these people would tell the truth. The average gay union last about 18 months to 2 years. Gays don’t generally have families, they have shack-up conveniences and are still free to roam about looking for sex wherever they can find it. Are there a couple of gays that have long term relationships – sure, that can’t be denied, but you don’t sacrifice the stability of marriage for a few perverted people who can create contracts to solve their problems..
Sorry but It does no good. They are in total denial.

For years, feminists have told people that traditional marriage is oppressive and abusive. They’ve worked like hell to undermine it and discredit it. Which is ironic, considering you hear so many stories about abused women and murdered children who were abused/killed by live in boyfriends because, golly, actual marriage just sucks so bad. So shack up with some loser who might beat your toddler to death…
The thing liberals will never understand is that traditional marriage is beneficial for society – studies have proven that traditional marriage makes men and women happier, more financially stable, and produces children who are healthier, happier, and better off.
Also, I’ll just remind all of the bigots who are so “happy” that gay couples have been stripped of a right they duly deserve: Prop 8 passed with a small margin. Even with the overwhelming support of the homophobic black vote, it was still a small margin. Just wait until the next generation of young voters come along – then we will have gay marriage and gay people might not feel as horrible as you all obviously want them to.
You mean like caring enough about them to call out their sin so that they do not perish under the wrath of God’s anger at judgment?

If you read the story of Jesus and the woman caught in adultery. You’ll notice that while he rebukes the people, he does not rebuke the law. If you read the law, it is clear that both the woman and man caught in adultery were to both be held accountable. Their approach was a mis-application of the law as they were only holding the woman guilty…
…and in the end, while Jesus did not condemn her in her open shame of committing a sin, he did command her to turn from it and repent.
Is this the Jesus you would hold to us as a standard? Even though I fall short, I still try…
