Memo to McCain blabbermouths: Character is destiny

My syndicated column today takes on the cowardly character assassins in the McCain campaign who are trying to kneecap Sarah Palin. More than 10,000 people signed the petition yesterday expressing thanks to Sarah Palin for stepping up to the plate. (I had to close it off due to liberal hate trolls indulging their PDS. Their comments will be deleted.) I’ll print off the petition and send the whole thing off to the Alaska Governor’s office. The question now is whether John McCain — proud author of books on character and courage, honor and duty — will just sit on the sidelines and let this debacle continue or stand up and defend the running mate he chose.

The cowardly character assassination of Sarah Palin

Sunken ships loosen bitter lips. The failed McCain campaign, for all its high-minded talk of honor, duty, and courage, is now teeming with unscrupulous gossip-mongers. Seems the dishy staffers forgot to crack open their copies of Sen. McCain’s best-seller, Character Is Destiny: Inspiring Stories Every Young Person Should Know and Every Adult Should Remember. Rest assured: Their cowardly character assassination of Sarah Palin won’t be forgotten.
The finks turned to Newsweek and Fox News to spread petty rumors about Sarah Palin’s intellect and character. The magazine peddled anecdotes from sources horrified that Palin greeted top advisers at her hotel room – gasp! — “wearing nothing but a towel” and “wet hair.” Fox News reporter Carl Cameron breathlessly reported that his unnamed McCain sources told him Palin lacked “a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate” because, they claimed, she didn’t know which countries were parties to the North American Free Trade Agreement and “didn’t understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series, a country just in itself.”
Let’s assume for a moment that the McCain rumor-mongers are telling the truth about Palin (and I don’t believe they were). Who would it damn more: Sarah Palin or McCain and his vetters who green-lighted her for the vice presidential nomination? Don’t need a fancy Ivy League degree to figure that one out.
In introducing her to America, John McCain praised her independence and backbone: She “stands up for what’s right and she doesn’t let anyone tell her to sit down.” The inside snipers are now roasting her for that very attribute – redefined as “going rogue” – because she had the nerve to try and schedule media interviews on her own. The nerve of her!
Palin’s response to the campaign fragging? At a late Wednesday night airport press conference in Anchorage, immediately upon landing home after the election defeat, she smiled cheerfully. The Alaska governor shrugged off the McCain saboteurs saying “foolish things” and said simply: “It’s politics…It’s rough and tumble and you’ve got to have a thick skin just like I’ve got.”
Hollywood savaged Sarah Palin. Journalists mocked her. Liberal blogs slimed her. Opponents cursed her, Photoshopped her, hacked her e-mail, hanged her in effigy, called her a bigot, Bible-thumper, and bimbo, and attacked her husband and children. But nothing Sarah Palin endured during the election season compares to the treatment she’s receiving from these back-stabbing blabbermouths who worked on the same campaign she poured herself into the last three months.
Sarah Palin worked her heart out. She energized tens of thousands to come out who would have otherwise stayed home. She touched countless families. I didn’t agree with everything she said on the campaign trail. But she vigorously defended the Second Amendment and the sanctity of life more eloquently in practice than any of the educated conservative aristocracy. And she did it all with a tirelessness and infectious optimism that defied the shameless, bottomless attempts by elites in both parties to bring her and her family down.
Liberty needs a virtuous people to survive; self-governance requires virtuous leaders.
“Knowledgeability” is a necessary trait in political life, but it is not sufficient. The elitist critics of Sarah Palin, so blindly enamored of Barack Obama’s ability to hold forth for hours on theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, ignored the Founding Fathers’ counsel: Character counts. In times of adversity and crisis, it counts more than IQ points and instant trivia recall and bloviation skills.
“The most important thing I have learned, from my parents, from teachers, from my faith, from many good people I have been blessed to know, and from the lives of people whose stories we have included in this book,” John McCain wrote in Character is Destiny, “is to want what they had, integrity, and to feel the sting of my conscience when I have risked it for some selfish reason.”
John McCain not only failed to make that message stick with the electorate, he apparently couldn’t persuade his own staff to heed his advice and practice what he preached.

here’s Reagan explaining things to the folks……
re: Charles Johnson…
He’s right.
Jindal participated in an exorcsim, and he claimed it cured the person’s cancer.
Yeah….let’s put this guy at the top of the list.
That’s a great strategy.
Ditto Mike Huckabee.
That man isn’t sure if the Earth was created in 6 days, 6,000 years ago.
With nominees like those two, we’re sure to win in 2012!!!
We’ve learned nothing.
I’m sorry but the idiots making up the “She didn’t know Africa was a continent” rumor STOLE THE IDEA FROM A TV SHOW:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmX3qXDVjjs
Too lazy to make up unfounded smears from scratch????
My great fear-
There are still a couple of Senate races not decided, Coleman, for example, and the more recounts and more time the DNC’s lawyers have, the better the chance that they can give it to Franken.
The GOP has only a couple of votes to spare on holding the filibuster on the most important toxins Pelosi and Obama will try to pass.
There are three major RINOs, Lindsay, although not as big a RINO as either of Maine’s two women senators.
Obama is rumored to be offering Homeland Security to Collins. If she goes, Governor Baldacci can fill her seat with a Democrat. The other Senator, Olympia Snowe, got into politics serving out her Republican husbands term in the state senate when he died, and has always been very unreliable. Either could decide they’d like a committee chair, and decide to caucus with the Democrats. Then you’d be in a situation that any one of the remaining RINOs, or at least Republican-Lite, like Graham, McCain or Specter can decide not to support a filibuster, and it is all over.
According to Senator Kyl, (On Hugh Hewitt) if the Republicans don’t have the number to block cloture, they can slow, but not stop, any Marxist legislation moving through the Senate, through procedural rules. Things like requesting bills being brought to the floor be read for the entire chamber. He says it will take legislation that could clear the Senate in 1 or 2 days, and make it take 2 or 3 days. But it can’t stop it.
Even with 41 votes to maintain a filibuster, there is the ‘nuclear option’ discussed when the Dems were filibustering Republican judges that could be used to end a filibuster without cloture.
From http://uspolitics.about.com/od/usgovernment/i/filibuster.htm
The parties would be reversed, of course:
The Senate moves to vote on a controversial nominee (Ed- or legislation).
At least 41 Senators call for filibuster.
Majority Leader Frist raises a point of order, saying debate has gone on long enough and that a vote must be taken within a certain time frame. (Current Senate rules requires a cloture vote at this point.)
Vice President Cheney — acting as presiding officer — sustains the point of order.
A Democratic Senator appeals the decision.
A Republican Senator moves to table the motion on the floor (the appeal).
This vote – to table the appeal – is procedural and cannot be subjected to a filibuster; it requires only a majority vote (in case of a tie, the Vice President casts the tie-breaking vote).
With debate ended, the Senate would vote on the nominee; this vote requires only a majority of those voting. The filibuster has effectively been closed with a majority vote instead of a three-fifths vote.
So, it is far from a certain deal that the Senate minority can do more than slow down Marxist poison being passed as law, especially if a Senator jumps caucus or accepts a position in the Obama administration and allows a Dem governor to fill her seat.
Two observations.
1. If these people bashing Palin are telling the truth, then they would have no problem attaching their names to their statements and defending them.
2. The McCain camp was RINO to begin with, and has abandoned Reagan’s eleventh commandment. Their lack of integrity diminishes their message.
Palin may be damaged goods because of McCain and I don’t know if she’d get my vote over Jindal, but I’ll be damn glad to see her put her hat in the ring.
Yup. It was pretty much rhetorical.
Guitar Guy
Why can’t I shake this funny feeling a bass guitar player from another blog has a sock puppet?
I think you missed his point. He wasn’t saying “don’t put these people down”, he was specifically lamenting the racist manner in which it was done. We are supposed to be better than that.
Reverend Wright is a terrible person because he’s a racist, America-hating demogogue. Not because he’s black. Illegal aliens are bad because they flout our laws, endanger our national security and distort our economy, not because they’re Mexican (or whatever).
Issues and character are what matter, and we hold the high ground on both, usually. We should leave race out of it.
Based on what empirical data? I see nothing quantifiable from other sources that even remotely suggests that.
That may be your opinion, but if you want to convince me, I will need some facts.
Do you have any proof? Its because of jerks like you that conservatism is at so low point now…blame other conservative of exorcism.
Secondly although Palin could attract large crowds, she definitely has lot of shortcomings…Even Ramesh Ponnoru from NRO think she was not a great choice. See point 7 on the link below.
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTMxZTA4OWI3ODM3MWQ3NjZlZTViZDQ4ZGMzYjQ2OTg=
Indeed. In fact the only available data actually disproves it. Where social conservative options were offered (like Prop
they won handily.
In about 3 and a half seconds, you were able to show everyone here you’re a narrowminded bigot who follows a party of “tolerance” and “acceptance”…of ideas you like. Glad you’re ok with suppression of free speech and the right to dissent.
And the fact that “fool” is the only word you can use for people you disagree with…while the only fool i saw on your postings was, in fact, you. Moron.
You’re absolutely dismissed. Come back when you’ve got something real to discuss, child.
This is the thanks we get for ‘holding our nose(s)’ and voting McCain.
I agree–I think he was the media’s choice for the GOP, not ours. I also agree with those who have said ‘he was paid to throw the election’.
Filthy, despicable politics. We have to move forward with some other new & improved conservative party–that is the powerful vote that will move mountains. That is what they (Dems, RINOs, etc) are so scared of.
They will try to beat into the American people’s heads that this country is not about what we call here ‘core values’. That is a lie. It is the only thing that matters. We have been shown the opposite this election. Obama won because the left is so scared of these ‘values’. They look to him to show them the light without conversion. This is the easy path, the satanic one. Of course he won.
ROFL
James Felix got caught doing the 8 ) and it made the cool guy
How was this a referendum on the Social Conservative agenda?
McCain was not running as a Social Conservative at all – he was running as a reach-around, oops , I mean “reach-across” bipartisan moderate maverick. People voted against the past 8 years of mush and McCain’s promise of 4 more years of similar mush.
The referendum was on Bush’s “Big Government” agenda, and the GOP’s return to Rockefeller Big Spending.
The answer was a resounding NO.
And FYI, Prop 8 passed. So did the similar ballot issues in other state s- in Florida it passed overwhelmingly, with 62%!
Conservatives are still 10% more than liberals in terms of voter self identification (34% Conservative 44% Moderate and 22% Liberal).
So you are utterly WRONG in that assessment.
I don’t think being just like the Democrats, as Michael Medved, Charles Johnson, and his sock Guitar Guy, have proposed, except with lower taxes and a little more respect for the military, is really a winning strategy.
John Major took Margaret Thatcher’s Tories and did the same thing, made them Labour-Lite, and when was the last Conservative majority in Commons?
All this talk about Palin not being a great pick for VP. Have you folks considered what a lousy pick Joe Biden was?
Can you imagine him in the #1 position if something happens to Obama? Can you?
And what “executive” experience does he has? A career senator from the small, dinky state of DE does not make one “qualified” to be President of the US.
Sound familiar?
OK, I know I brought up Greta yesterday and you folks almost laughed me out of the website, but here’s some interesting news from the Drudge site:
So, this will be interesting to watch. I hope she comes out swinging, but of course in a very classy way. I wouldn’t expect anything less coming from her.
Even a duck can get it!
Second one down please.

You could’ve done a simple ‘Google’ and found your answer.
We’re supposed to come together and gather good candidates for the GOP…..we need new blood.
I’m trying to avoid having us (the GOP) become even more of a joke.
…..and you come back with insults.
Good.
Real good.
Once again: We’ve learned nothing.

Charles:
How did Prop 8 pass in California if social conservatism is what is holding Republicans down?
Those people taking cheap shots a Palin, claiming that she damaged the ticket were not at the McCain/Palin ralley in Ashville, NC, a few weeks ago (an extremely liberal city).
My wife and I got there 3 hours early. There were already thousands in line. We stood in line for 4 hours and didn’t even make it into the convention center, we were diverted into an overflow auditorium. There were thousands behind us in line who did not get in at all.
Was this to see John McCain? Absolutely not! He was never our choice. We were there to see Sarah Palin, and so was everyone else there!
We voted for McCain only because the only alternative was Barak Obama. The only thing that got us remotely interested in the Republican ticket this election was Sarah Palin. If it were not for her, the Republican party this time around would not have even gotten the time of day from us.
Those trying to stab her in the back now are only showing how low class they are themselves.
I thought it apropos since it was the great, winning Prop 8, afterall!
Y’know I been online for a long time (I mean over the years, not today, lol) but I don’t know if there is an internet slang term for when a forum, message board or comment secton “translates” English into smileys.
You’re right.
I just wanted to discredit Jindal, so I just made up an exorcism story.
Yeah, that’s it.
I firmly believe that having Palin on the ticket was the only reason the electoral vote total looked like a reverse of Bush/Kerry, instead of Reagan/Mondale.
That great war hero, McAmnesty said, “We are better than that.” AND HE LOST!
I prefer the words of a REAL war hero General George S. Patton, HE knew about combat and winning:
Shocker! Odopey is running late for his first speech….. good help us if when he has the codes.
Did you ever wonder why we have to find a conservative candidate that has tons of experience in every category, has never done a single thing wrong, and has never done anything out of the mainstream that could be the subject of criticism while the Dems can field an inexperienced socialist with more skeletons than a medical school and he gets a free pass? We need to focus on getting a less hostile media. Chris Matthews gets interviewed and says it’s his job to help his president and somehow he still gets viewers. We need to organize and boycott the advertisers of the extremely partisan news organizations. We will never win with the press against us.
aj …
he and Michelle are still finishing up their caviar and champagne lunch …
I’M SARAH PALIN
I urge everyone to adopt this phrase in solidarity with her as the slaves did in “Spartacus”
The left-beltway-media complex is terrified of a down- to- earth citizen politician who is a conservative and true everyday patriotic American.
This nation needs citizen-politicians who bring character, leadership and the unyielding principles of America’s strength and best interests to Washington, not beltway insiders and ivy-league politicians.
Hope they choke on it DL.

D I T T O ! ! !
JOHN MCCAIN – You stopped attacks from audience members against your opponent. Attacks which were probably true. However, you won’t stop attacks from YOUR AIDES on your running mate?
Do what is right based on your “character” and confront the hateful rumors. If you don’t respond to these attacks then perhaps your character isn’t what you claim.
Sarah is what is good and right about the party and she is good for the party.
DO THE RIGHT THING JOHN MCCAIN….DON’T BE LIKE THE LA TIMES AND SIT ON INFORMATION.
Sarah Palin most definitely did not get tens of thousands of people to vote for the McCain ticket…
…she got millions.
John McCain is a RINO, and never stood a chance without her.
There were only three ballots cast this past Tuesday:
A vote for Barack Obama,
A vote against Barack Obama, or
A vote for Sarah Palin.
John McCain was the anti-Obama, nothing more.
Funny, I don’t see anything in Patton’s speech that endorses or encourages racism.
Are you deliberately missing the point, or are you honestly arguing in favor of racism? And I don’t mean the phony, “boy who cried wolf” kind of racism, I mean actually denigrating your opponents based on the color of their skin.
Anyone who can’t find enough things to criticize about Obama and his cult without resorting to race is either lazy, ignorant, or both. If that’s your vision of conservatism count me out, and enjoy a richly deserved status of permanent minority.
And hey, just for the record, McCain may be a RINO and an idiot but his service to his country was nothing but honorable. I doubt you’ve endured anything similar in your life, and for you to belittle it says more about you than it does about McCain.
Correct.
In fact, considering the overall candidate, one might be justified in saying that McCain was not even the anti-Obama, but rather just the not-Obama.
just watching ‘The Moron’ – I threw up a little in my mouth. Grandholm is standing there with him. The Canadian governor of state of Michigan which happens to be in the dumpster economically.
It’s going to be a long 4 years.

To Sarah Palin “Go out there and have fun!” McCain
lgm wrote…
…while yelling, OH MY WHAT COULD THAT BE?!
(Yes, I responded to the resident troll. My bad.)
The only thing substantial out of that press conference was Obama’s mulling over throwing his Iranian buddy Ack-mack-dinny-jod under the bus, and maybe going to war with Iran.
Ack-mack sent him a love note, and Obama didn’t send kissy faces back.
Did anyone else catch that?
For trhe life of me, I can’t understand why Sarah Palin would have an interview with Greta Van Susteren. Hasn’t she had enough of these liberal fools!
I would vote for Sarah any day of the week. McCain’s camp practically destroyed her. And now comes fox with that fool Oreilly and the bigger fool Carl Cameron who has always been in the tank for Obama. I can’t understand why the people making those claims against Sarah won’t show their disgraceful faces and if they dont show their faces, not one word should be reported .
The Republicans have already lost the election of 2012. Obama can be a complete disaster and the Republican establishment will do the work for Obama. The Republican nominee will once again be an old time establishment candidate who fits in well down at the yacht basin. Most likely it will be Mitt Romney (let’s recall Mitt’s priceless “Who Let the Dogs out” video). If you haven’t seen it, just go to youtube and see why Mitt can’t win.
The Republican establishment will never allow a candidate like JC Watts or Bobby Jindal be the candidate. It just won’t happen. Either one of these guys could win in both the burbs and in rural areas and both would do well in urban areas. But the Republican establishment always goes for the county club candidate (Recall that the Republican establishment never wanted Reagan. He did not have an Ivy League pedigree and the establishment fought Reagan tooth and nail).
When I saw the Republican National Committee designated Frank Farenkoph to handle debate negotiations, I knew all was lost. He stood for everything Republicans should not be: Gambling industry lobbyist, K Street all the way, a lifetime inside the Washington cocoon.
In 2012, expect Obama to win in 46 states Romney to win in 4.
Because of course, we must have a conservative candidate that can act “black”. Just give up and give in.
I didn’t know there was a “black” way of acting.
yo yo yo, you must be the dumbest person on this site.
…Black way of acting, talking, thinking and VOTING!
Get your thug thizzle on. Word!

Greta has been fair with Sarah Palin. Greta might be a liberal, but she is no fan of Obama.
And Marc, don’t worry about Romney, he can’t win the Republican nomination. He had all the money in the world, a weak field to run against, and still couldn’t get very many votes.
I don’t know if it is his changes on many issues, or because he is a Mormon, but he just couldn’t get much traction. I suspect the front runners for 2012 will be Palin and/or Jindal.
guitarguy said:
What is so wrong with what Jindal did? From what I could read of your links, it appears he attended an exorcism. So?
Let me tell you a little secret… most Americans have some belief in God and a spirit world…
Do you really think Jindal’s being a Catholic really scares American voters? Were people scared from voting for Obama when they heard his religious views?
If Jindal was to run against Obama in 2012, I should think he would encourage talking about each other’s religious views. Let’s compare what Jindal believes vs. Obama. Jindal won’t lose votes, I assure you.
Let’s try this:
A person’s faith is their own business.
To ask anyone “What god do you worship?, or “Are you a jew or a catholic?” is rather rude.
They are personal questions, and I would think that people being asked those questions would respond with: “That’s nobody’s business but mine!”
And they would be right to do so!
Right now, the fate/direction of our nation is much more important than where you or I worship, or whom we worship, or IF we worship.
It should be a private matter.
It should not be on the table.
And I assume you are a person of faith, and that’s fine by me.
But I have to wonder….exactly which faith would encourage you to deride and mock a perfect stranger?
God bless!
No.
Nor did I say that.
No.
He particpated in an exorcism.
Again, the left would have a field-day with that.
Let’s not provide the ammo for our own execution.
I wonder if some meeting was held with O’Reilly, Noonan, Goerge Will and such and they were simply told “go along with the program, or you won’t have careers” with respect to Obama.
What’s sad is that I’m not surprised that blatant anti-Catholic bigotry is once again all over a conservative web site.
Nevertheless, take it to Huffington Post.
I took part in a Roman Catholic exorcism about 30 years ago. Not at all the stuff of movies, so knock off the concerns. It’s no big deal. You wouldn’t know a true exorcism if it was in your own home. it is never done in public… so any information you have on it is third hand spoken at best. Jindahl isn’t even close to being a national candidate… we have bigger fish to fry….
guitarguy said:
From the links you provided, all I gathered was that he was merely a witness to the thing (the 2nd link required a subscription to read the whole thing).
Regardless, I don’t think it is even noteworthy, and if this is ammo, it is a dud. The Left will simply make stuff up if they don’t find anything – as in who’s Trig’s mommy? The only people who would be driven off by this kind of stuff would be those who are already antagonistic towards religion, and thus, already voting Democrat.
Capt, I’m glad McCain lost. As has been said many times, he definitely was NOT the future of the conservative movement (notice how I didn’t say “Republican party”). I’m NOT happy that Obama won, and I’ve made that clear many times on this blog. But NOW is the time to kick into gear! Revolution Party, Conservative Party, Freedom Party, I’m there!
The RINOs and posers will eventually join the Dems. They don’t care about family values, fiscal conservatism, or national defense. So why are they still Rs? I think it is more of a selfish motive. As another poster said, for John McCain “Country First” was just a slogan. I think for him it was truly “McCain first,” and perhaps that is always how he has lived. He is remorseful about how he treated his first wife, but I think it’s a symptom of his attitude.
Palin, Jindal, Steele: If you’re reading this blog, your supporters are eager for you to LEAD us into a viable 3rd party!

There are ALWAYS exceptions to bromides and your politician’s religion IS important.
Forgot to clarify, I think some politicians who put an “R” after their name are only doing it b/c they are running against a fairly weak Dem, and they don’t have the guts to challenge w/in their party…hence another RINO is born.
I emailed SHEP SMITH and CARL CAMERON at FOX and gave them a ration about their breathless savoring of the McCain Republocrats’ nasty, demeaning gossip about Palin.
Both of them are beneath contempt, and I think their being employed at CNN would be a much better fit.

True, but in this instance they won’t have to.

No.
The people driven off by this kind of stuff will be people who are tired of losing.

Wrong.

RIGHT!
And that is why the left will have a field-day with it.
We didn’t think the USA would ever elect a socialist.
SURPRISE!
The scenario that (someday) we won’t have a choice regarding faith/worship is a possibility.
If we want to argue about it, it’ll be VERY likely.
Could you take comfort with: “…..I am outnumbered in my own country…..I no longer have a voice…..I no longer count…….but at least I still have my faith….for now…..”
I’d much rather put that aside and get busy taking my country back on track.
(And by ‘put that aside’ I do NOT mean abandon my faith. I merely mean don’t make it an issue.)

Its fine for you to criticize Reverend Wright. He is a racist. But it isn’t worthy of a conservative to attribute his racism to his race. Ironic but true. He didn’t choose his race but he did choose to live his culture and he did choose to say the things he said. Criticize his culture, criticize his words and actions and choices but do not criticize his race.

If he was the one who flipped out, that would be a problem. How is praying for a friend who is acting weird… well, weird?
I don’t get the controversy.
You think “black liberation theology” isn’t BLACK??
What is all happy McCain crap? “We are better than that.”
Quit rolling over and letting them walk all over us.
So we have graduated from kicking him when he was down to kicking him when he is finished. No need to keep kicking away at him Michelle Malkin. You pretty much got your wish. You can quit trying to trash him for things that other people have said that don’t even work for him anymore…. Or Hispanic campaign volunteers… Or “Daddy Yankee”…. Or whatever else you can slap together. He Is Done.
I suspect that in 4 years you will be glad to have the opportunity to vote for someone like him. (Provided we are still having elections.) McCain was a good man with some bad ideas and we have elected a bad man with some very bad ideas. Regardless, John McCain has done more for this country than any of us have or probably will. That certainly hasn’t bought him a lot of respect around here.
Neither will the cowardly character assassination of John McCain.
True, Bill – it’s pretty much a given that Obama will run for re-election.
I am glad I did not vote for McShame.
I will be waiting for Palin-Jindal or Jindal-Palin 2012.
I did not vote for Hussain either.
A black woman I worked with long ago informed me about a certain acronym re Brobama or any black folk running late. I will refrain from posting it lest I be banned…
Uh, er, Greta has been one of Palin’s biggest cheerleaders, or at least she vigorously defends her. I’d never watched the show until she had Palin on, and I was shocked I tell you, shocked!
OTOH, when I saw the list of the three idiots who were clawing for the first post-loss interview, I got nauseated: D’ohprah, Baba Wawa and Larry King.
At least she didn’t go to any of these goons.
Sarah Palin is dominating the news today. The MSM hated her during the election, but they’re not so idiotic that they don’t know who draws viewers!
Do you think we could get him to attend one on Pennsylvania Ave on, say, January 20?
SoCal Black liberation theology and all of that is racism and it comes out of peoples culture and values not from the DNA that controls their pigment. By saying that it comes from their pigment you are basically saying that they will never change. You really will be ineffective in your conservatism until you can base your objections to racism of any sort to peoples choices and values and not their pigment. In fact you will bring scandal on conservatism by such a mindset.
To SandyB #267:
Thanks. That brought a smile to my face.
Here, here, Michelle!
I missed out on signing the petition. It was already closed by the time I read your post on it. Ironic how the far left loons continue to show their true character (or, should I say lack of character?).
As to the blabbermouths, it is evident to me that even Republicans (the party elitists?) fear a Palin national prominence/presence. Not unlike Ronald Reagan, Gov. Palin has a charm, charisma, personality and an energy about her that could wrest the party and its conservative base away from the staid party leaders, those who, by the way, have lost the past two elections.
(Hey, even in Pittsburgh, the owners of the Pirates get tired of fielding losing teams for 15 straight years. The top executives were replaced last year with the intent of turning the franchise around and bringing a consistent winner to the best city and the best baseball park.)
The Republican Party elites do not want to lose the control they have had. Thus, the attacks on one who genuinely threatens that control.
Yes, that is exactly the question Dad asked on this board, which he called “The Question”. I reposted it, and got the same beating from people here.
Boiled down it was simply: At what point is more Socialism too much Socialism?
No one answered. If you take the beating we got as an answer, however, the answer seems: there is never too much Socialism, as long as it is from the correct letter of the alphabet.
