President-Elect D’oh-bama’s Gaffe #1: Sorry, Nancy

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 7, 2008 07:30 PM

And so it begins.

Or rather, continues.

President-elect D’oh-bama apologizes (vid here in case you missed it):

President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan this afternoon to apologize for a joke about her having heald “séances” in the White House, an Obama aide said.

“President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference,” said transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. “The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation.”

Obama was asked at his press conference today if he’d spoken to all the “living” presidents.

“I have spoken to all of them who are living,” he responded. “I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances.”

Hillary Clinton did seances. Nancy Reagan did astrology.

At least he didn’t call her “Weezy.”

Can’t wait until the increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Vice President-Elect gets rollin’.

FamilyMan, I wish Rush would’ve provided a link to it, but shortly before the election, he mentioned that a group of AZ neurologists analyzed The One’s speech patterns and found that they produced a hypnotic effect more pronounced/effective on the very young and the highly educated. This explains a lot.

The Obamunist has that radio voice and for the most part tries to sound calm, which helps, too. I’ve heard many, many comments like yours with anti-Obies shaking their heads in disbelief that anyone would be taken in.

When I told a neighbor about the highly educated stuff, she said, “I’m glad I’m dumb.”

I don’t know if I believe he is that bad but I do believe that neither he, his wife or his long time associates, are good for this country. I also do not believe that he has any idea what he has gotten into as president. He thinks, like so many egomaniacs that he can do anything better than the person who is currently

Obama’s personality is to take his time with decisions to get them right. He does that even when choosing words. That’s where the umms come from. I would rather have him take his time and say something thoughtful than parrot drivel, Bush style.

Yes, I agree he is taking his time. Everything he does is calculated to serve that manipulative personality of his. It’s all about how he presents himself to others and how he is reflected back. Purely superficial though. His hesitation isn’t due to his high IQ. It’s all about appearance. He probably ought to stay away from cracking jokes though. The article was correct. His mother didn’t like mainstream white Christian capitalist America. She couldn’t get away from it fast enough and was an atheist. All the people he’s associated with by choice through his life have been Communists, Socialists, Marxist, black nationalists, haters of tradtional white America.
I wouldn’t say he’s a psychopath but he has unresolved inner emotional wounds. His quest to repair our country is really about repairing himself. I feel sorry for him for the poverty of his family connections but not enough to let him rule and destroy the foundations of this country. He should just get therapy.

He is, however, guilty of perpetrating the greatest smoke and mirrors show on the largest audience in the history of democracy. For that he is to be commended–and the American people are to be condemned.

    What’s your point?

I disagree that he’s “looking out for what’s best for this country.” I would edit that to say “he’s looking out for what’s best for this country puppeteers.

His own words when confronted with the “experience” question included rhetoric about him surrounding himself with “a great staff…” I know his “people” think he’s Moses, but he’s starting to believe it–and from the sound of things, you just might be, too. I wonder if we’ll have to wait long to see his staff turn into a snake?

Obama is an idealog. His “religon” is socialism. He is on an ideological quest. I see no evidence he cares about this country. When he said he is a citizen of the world he means it. He feels no identity as an American. Instead of today “Germany tomorrow the world,” his attitude seems to be, “I am going to transform the world. Since I am in America, I guess I will start here.”

Unless it is an extreme thing like Mrs. Reagan, he never regrets, never apologizes. He shows no real warmth. His friends to a person are fellow idealogs. All of this “Office of the President Elect,” his own Presidential Seal, the “President” on his airplane chair, the massive speeches, etc. are all things Obama has at a minimum approved of. He has an ego the size of Montana. He reacts with anger to dissent or a challenging opinion.

A fundamental tool of “conversational hypnosis” is pacing and leading— a way for the hypnotist to bypass the listener’s critical faculty by associating repeated statements that are unquestionably accurate with the message he wants to convey.

In his Denver acceptance speech, Obama used the phrases “that’s why I stand here tonight,” “now is the time,” and “this moment” 14 times. Paces are connected to the lead by words such as “and,” “as,” “because,” or “that is why.” For example, “we need change” (who could disagree?) and that is why I will be your next President.”

Techniques of trance induction include extra slow speech, rhythm, tonalities, vagueness, visual imagery, metaphor, and raising of emotion. Hypnotists often have patients count. In a speech after the primaries closed, Obama said: “Sixteen months have passed (paused) Thousands (pause) of miles (pause) Millions of voices.”

Hypnotists call this a distraction technique: sending the dominant hemisphere on an assignment involving linguistic processes, thus opening the nondominant hemisphere to suggestion.

Hand gestures can be used as hypnotic anchors, or to aid in hypnotic command implantation. They can be difficult to distinguish from innocent gestures used for emphasis. Obama, however, uses some gestures extraordinarily often and for very specific words such as “believe” and “chose.” His haracteristic thumb-and-forefinger gesture looks like a hand holding a pencil—as if you were in a voting booth.

The gesture of pointing sends the subconscious message that a person in authority is giving a command. Obama actually said at one time: “a light will shine down from somewhere, it will light upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will say to yourself, ‘I have to vote for Barack.”

You will not choose to vote for Barack: you will “have to.” It is not a logical choice, but rather one directed by a mystical (subconscious) force. What purpose would a politician have for making such a statement? Obama used it only once. Perhaps he stopped either because he realized it was too obvious or because Hillary Clinton and John McCain ridiculed him for it.

Obama’s logo is noteworthy. It is always there, a small one in the middle of the podium, providing a point of visual fixation. Unlike other presidential logos, one looks through it, not at it. It might just be the letter “O,” but it also resembles a crystal ball, a favorite of hypnotists

Women are tradtionally the spiritual caretakers of the family unit. It’s an expression of our feminine sensitivity.
Obama doesn’t understand that because his mother was an atheist. He is culturally out of touch with traditional America and especially traditional American women.
Lesson for lgm: Never, ever, ever reduce the cherished feelings of a woman to a foible.

Obama’s comment was a somewhat lame attempt at humor – nothing to get in a tizzy about. It certainly wasn’t as awful as McCain’s “joke” about Chelsea Clinton a few years back. (I don’t think Barry has a sense of humor.)

There will be a lot to get in an uproar about in the next few years… no reason to find offense where none was intended.

Remember it well, I believe Newton would call Hercules “Herc”.

Right you are, laddie – to start his presidency off correctly he was merely expounding more of his renowned thoughtful statements.

I mean, the first thing to come to mind to every President-presumptive at his first press conference is to launch verbal assaults at widowed octogenairians. As you say, nothing unusual at all there.

In Obama’s value system the old woman is not an ideological partner, so she is unimportant and deserving of ridicule. People that are not right minded or a potential embarrassment to a leader on the left are expendable. Just ask Joe the Plumber or Kathleen Willey.

With people like Hubert Humphrey, Tip O’Neill, Mike Mansfield, Paul Wellstone, Joe Liberman, and in most respects Ted Kennedy, you could have a spirited debate there would be mutual respect during and at the end of the debate.

With today’s Left, not at all. I have said many times recently, think of someone who opposes their views that the Left does not hate. If you have a differing view from them, the first thing they do is villify you, then attack you. We are no longer deserving of being allowed to have a civil debate or even an opportunity to speak.

I personally think they know in a debate of any substance they have no real points to make. Often times you hate what you fear.

Also, I think they realize the majority of the American public, on issues, is against them since it’s middle-of-the-road & slightly conservative. That most be not only fearful, but frustrating. That’s where the empty suit-blank slate candidates, like Carter and Obama, fit in. It’s also why they need to push their politics through far-left courts in an attempt to bypass American voters.

Listening to the Obama ‘press conference’ I noticed he used 36 um’s in less than 2 min at one point. I tried to go back and just count em all up, but I got lost somewhere around 137.

It seems to me that someone should be able to setup a contest of some sort, to ‘guess the number of umms’ at the next Obama event.

Since we should be getting all sorts of minor Obama events for the next say, 4 years or so, well, I think it might be a nice pasttime to just count em all up.

Anyone got some ideas on how to get the ball rolling on this?

Maybe we could try to get MM to setup a poll with ranges of counts before each major speaking event. I would figure the ‘State of the Union’ address to be a ‘low volume’ event, while a simple press conference could be a real ’slammer’!

    Thanks, AlohaGuy.

With any luck, the Obama’s will be softened by the graciousness of George and Laura Bush on Monday. After the incredible demonizing of Bush that Obama ran his campaign on, he ought to feel at least a little guilty for the warm treatment I’m sure they will receive.I don’t even want to get started on what Michelle needs to learn. Sheesh! When she was on “The View” she talked about how appreciative she was of Laura Bush defending her famous “first time proud of my country” comment. Laura said she was sure Michelle meant “more proud” than ever.
Michelle said she could see why people like and wondered if maybe she should send her a thank-you note but wasn’t sure how to address her.

Started having a lot of thoughts about his announcement that his girls would finally get a puppy.
This should probably be a new thread but I don’t know how to start one.
He said the girls had “earned” that puppy they’d been asking for.
Wasn’t that another example of him being passive-aggressive? Isn’t it more to the point that he earned something?
    If so, what?
Is it that he has finally achieved a life goal that fulfills his ego need so now maybe he could grow a Grinch heart?
Of course, he doesn’t think he should have to earn something, but he wants to take away from Americans who have earned something.
The more I think about it, the word “earn” is really a perversely loaded one for him.
Also heard that in the People mag feature on their family, the girls aren’t given any birthday or Christmas gifts. Any thoughts out there?
He seems to use the word “punish” a lot, also.

Christmas presents are not given in the Obama household because the only “Messiah” acknowledged is “The One.” Gifts are given to him, and he decides how to redistribute, since the Supreme Court hasn’t addressed that.
