President-elect D’oh-bama apologizes (vid here in case you missed it):
President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan this afternoon to apologize for a joke about her having heald “séances” in the White House, an Obama aide said.
“President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference,” said transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. “The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation.”
Obama was asked at his press conference today if he’d spoken to all the “living” presidents.
“I have spoken to all of them who are living,” he responded. “I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances.”
Hillary Clinton did seances. Nancy Reagan did astrology.
At least he didn’t call her “Weezy.”
Can’t wait until the increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Vice President-Elect gets rollin’.

I wonder if Obama will ever get to the point of having a sense of what he ought to say and what he oughtn’t say. I mean, he’s THE ONE, and who out there has any right to tell THE ONE what he can or can’t say? Perhaps this was just a bit of juvenile exuberance following his big day, and it’ll pass, but I really doubt that he simply has the sense of decency to not be a big creep from time to time. It’s simply part of who he is.

More on the “mutt” comment. Mutt is a derogatory term. Just for fun, I checked the definition: 1) a dog that is of mixed or unknown breed. 2) an offensive term that deliberately insults someone’s intelligence or knowledge. Obama had consistently tried to elevate the stature, the dignity of minorities, the poor, the underprivileged. That’s most of the people who voted for him. I would think any of his followers would take offense at that. This was another truth serum moment. Are we sure he wasn’t in San Francisco for that press conference?

Now that the election is over, my wife and I have been E-mailing old friends explaining our political views. Sadly we discovered over half of those we contacted voted Obama. I consider most of these people, well educated and clear minded. Probing their reasoning for their decisions, we found the Obama supported could explain it in emotional terms only. It’s good to see Obama will not be holding seances to help formulate policy. Like many liberals I know he probably prefers using a more rational and proven method of planning for the future: Tarot cards.
The time has come for the American public to take an offensive role in government. We cannot longer sit by the sidelines and listen to what the MSM tells us is happening in Washington and in our state capitals. The citizens of this country need to organize and demand what we want of our governments. With the internet, we now have the means to communicate, organize, and effect changes which will benefit all Americans.

I haven’t read most of the posts on here, but this one caught my eye. I am in total agreement. I’d like to talk about getting our ducks in a row. McCain is finally done.
The only effective way is to get involved at your local level. Make alliances with people who are constitutionalist and take over from the old guard. If that is done across the country, we have a good chance to really CHANGE things.

How about a comment on the substance of the news conference.
1. Obama spoke clearly and intelligently. What a contrast from Bush!
2. Alas, he also answered tough questions with talking point boilerplate. One bad example was his answer to the question: “Do you intend to raise taxes on rich people?” His answer was not a yes or a no, but a rambling collection of campaign slogans that mean little.
How’s this for a what-if:
“Now that you’ve reached the office of President-elect, what would you say is your favorite perk of office?”. Obama –”It’s different. There’s more admiration than before. In Hawaii the term “poi” is often used of mixed breeds, as in “we’ve got an old poi dog” and there isn’t a negative connotation. It’s descriptive. When explaining that to outsiders, often the term “mutt” is used, which can have a negative connotation. The term “hapa” is used for half, so he is hapa Haole (half white). but technically he’s not half black. Thus, he may have grown up describing himself as poi, rather than hapa. (Say a school friend sees him with his grandmother, they might ask “Are you hapa?” He might have answered, “No, poi.” They would all laugh and not worry about it.) So honestly, I wouldn’t look to deeply at the word “mutt”.
