President-Elect D’oh-bama’s Gaffe #1: Sorry, Nancy

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 7, 2008 07:30 PM

And so it begins.

Or rather, continues.

President-elect D’oh-bama apologizes (vid here in case you missed it):

President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan this afternoon to apologize for a joke about her having heald “séances” in the White House, an Obama aide said.

“President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference,” said transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. “The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation.”

Obama was asked at his press conference today if he’d spoken to all the “living” presidents.

“I have spoken to all of them who are living,” he responded. “I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances.”

Hillary Clinton did seances. Nancy Reagan did astrology.

At least he didn’t call her “Weezy.”

Can’t wait until the increasingly erratic, super-gaffetastic Vice President-Elect gets rollin’.

I mean, he’s THE ONE, and who out there has any right to tell THE ONE what he can or can’t say? Perhaps this was just a bit of juvenile exuberance following his big day, and it’ll pass, but I really doubt that he simply has the sense of decency to not be a big creep from time to time. It’s simply part of who he is.

More on the “mutt” comment. Mutt is a derogatory term. Just for fun, I checked the definition: 1) a dog that is of mixed or unknown breed. 2) an offensive term that deliberately insults someone’s intelligence or knowledge. Obama had consistently tried to elevate the stature, the dignity of minorities, the poor, the underprivileged. That’s most of the people who voted for him. I would think any of his followers would take offense at that. This was another truth serum moment. Are we sure he wasn’t in San Francisco for that press conference?

If it’s okay for him to call himself a mutt, can we call him half honky? One AP writer says this shows this White House will be open to the topic of race.

    The joke was classless, but…

In Hawaii the term “poi” is often used of mixed breeds, as in “we’ve got an old poi dog” and there isn’t a negative connotation. It’s descriptive. When explaining that to outsiders, often the term “mutt” is used, which can have a negative connotation. The term “hapa” is used for half, so he is hapa Haole (half white). but technically he’s not half black. Thus, he may have grown up describing himself as poi, rather than hapa. (Say a school friend sees him with his grandmother, they might ask “Are you hapa?” He might have answered, “No, poi.” They would all laugh and not worry about it.) So honestly, I wouldn’t look to deeply at the word “mutt”.
There’s going to be plenty wrong with him as it is…

While I would love to take credit for that one, I didn’t come up with it and it’s already being sold by someone at CafePress. I tried to upload the page link, but I was banned from doing so because it had “the word” in the link. But if you go to the website and search for it you’ll get all kinds of stuff, including T-shirts, mugs, etc. I may just have to get myself a new T-shirt!

Thanks, AlohaGuy, for the background info. Obama may have meant the word usage innocently but but he’s not joking around with the local folks back home. He’s addressing the whole nation as a President. Perception is reality.
    It just wasn’t presidential.

that GOP who crossed the line and should know better
also voted with their emotions (it couldn’t have been on his experience and qualifications) clearly shows that this is a cult of personality that they are buying into. What’s next, trying to get him declared king or

Obama’s “gaffe” was a light tease of Nancy Reagan’s well known interest in things supernatural.

    No, clown.
The gaffe was an immature, adolescent, gratuitous and disgrasceful slur – exactly the expected stock-in-trade of socialist/statist/collectivist opposite-world-view holders.

Obama had the class to call and apologize immediately. No harm done.

    Wrong again, clown.
Are you saying that Obama magically traveled back in time and “unrang the bell”, so to speak?
He didn’t “apologize” because of remorse; he “apologized” in an attempt to repair political damage.

How about a comment on the substance of the news conference.

We know what he is, and what he wants to do, politically.
Never mind the BS that he sprays at us at a news conference.

Rather, I’ll be directing my attention to my tax bill; to the inflation and unemployed rates (welcome back, misery index); to interest rates; to illegal immigration rates; to not prevented, unanswered attacks upon us by our enemies; and to the further descent of our nation/culture/society into the sewer.

I just read that this is BO’s way of deflecting attention
