Saturday night open thread
What a week, huh? What did you do today to decompress? I cleaned the house, had friends over, cleaned the house again, and did crafts and games with the kids. We’re having a Malkin Family Game Tournament: Boggle, Monopoly Jr., Upwords, and two video games (Beach Bocce and Big Brain Academy). I stink at Bocce.
Speaking of kids, did you hear Piper Palin’s interview? She’s a darling.

Why do trolls try to ruin a perfectly good Sunday?
GGGGGGEEEEESS!!!!
okay some woman with a hairdo that looks like it came from that bar scene in starwars is on meet the depressed.
am thinking she must be short and someone told her she looks taller with that odd hair, seems to be some obambi
spokesmouth
Good morning! I’ve been reading Ms. Malkin’s blog for several months but this is my first time posting a comment. I tried to post a comment earlier in the week but had some problems so this is a trial run.
Fam,
who is the troll?
I’m a self-reliant, motivated, conservative Republican. I never give up.
SCT,
it worked, happy Blessed Sunday.
okay what is wrong with saying:
Fam well you could read the instructions? that got blocked
That is what they do.
Don’t feed the trolls-you feed the pigeons and you get pigeon droppings all over the place-same with the trolls-just bigger.
–
That every man be armed-you too ladies.
America First
America Alone
Americans Come Home
They always show up around this time. That was a preemptive strike.
Fam,
clowns to the left and right and you are stuck with no teevee thing?
Iowa – 24 , previously unbeaten #3 Penn State – 23
Iowa fans are conflicted in a way. The Penn State program and Joe Paterno are highly respected and an undefeated Penn State in the BCS championship would have been great.
But a nice win.
Wednesday was an incrediblly nice, 75 degree fall day with azure, cloudless skies here in Northern Indiana. Hauled the canoe, a bag of snacks, and my wife and daughter down to the Tippecanoe River for a very peacefull 5 hour float trip. Lots of birds and deer. A much needed detachment from nearly 3 months of news and politics.
Fly,
good for who? not us folks who live in
PA and have zero time for the nitwit fans of PSU. Being a fan is one thing
making death threats is another when a player is exposed for breaking rules.
name that player for two MM dead thread points!!!
Ive decided that Im pretty disgusted with the MSM and politicians at the moment.
I guess this country is really not in crisis. The main topic of news is the president-elects choice in DOGS!!!!!!??????!!!!!!!
Where’s the economic crisis? Where the communism/socialism crisis? Wheres the energy crisis? Where the war crisis? Where the terrorism crisis?
Hmmm, guess it can all wait until January after all huh?
Cic,
a small kid or did she paddle too?
do any fishing?
One to make you go hmm
The pick 3 lotto number the Ilinois lottery the day after Obama was elected President was…..
Rabb,
stay calm obambi has been elected he will solve all such things stay focused on the dog as it is all about the allergic chillin doncha know!!
My guess is barry lied to his kids they were allergic to keep them from getting a dog and he can’t back down now.
barry is better at flinging ..it than shoveling ..it. no scoopy poopy pop
was typing too fast… im going to the mountains for the day and waiting for the snow tonight
Just pondering the changes that are in store for us. What the real hidden agenda is.
Just had a thought. How many times will Obama have to take a walk out off the White House grounds to light up on Pennsylvania Ave. I’m sure the White House is smoke free.
bansharia,
Was not aware of that. There always are that group of idiot fanatic fans.
The Iowa coach sent a message to his team recently. A 19 year old freshman player was arrested for public intox and possession as a minor. Coach Ferentz suspended the player indefinately.
The player was Ferentz’s son.
I have one daughter attending the University of Alabama. Next year my youngest daughter will attend The Ohio State University.
The Crimson Tide and the Buckeyes both posted great wins yesterday, so I’m one happy Republican this weekend!
Six manuals with 350 total pages of instructions for the TV hookup. Looks like the damn IRS instruction booklet.
GEE. Give me an old Ford flathead V8. I can fix that with my eyes closed.
Fly,
player was busted for clothes and other favors prior to a bowl game. Reporter who reported was ran out of PA with death threats to his family and himself from socalled “fans”.
Fly,
P.S. I was rooting for Iowa congrats on the win.
rom another axelrod pal is doing his nonallergenicdog and pony show on face the licker this morning. lots of laughs
Cic,
a small kid or did she paddle too?
do any fishing?
Daughter is 8 years old and has her own camera. She had a blast taking pics! No fishing on that day, but we have a decent smallmouth population and plenty catfish.
hey Bob,
McCain did not have anywhere near the spending that obambi promised.
keep on licking as long as you are kicking and Ps your socalled moderation of “debate” was laughed about best not to bring that up as any sort of cred.
Cic,
sweet stuff, may you create many more such memories
obambi does not want accountability without power..
classic stuff
mwaahahahaahhahahahahahahahaha
Completely off topic, but I’ve been waiting for the next “Open Thread” to ask this question:
What ever happened to LT-Smash? I used to read his blog religiously, and then Poof…disappeared. I suspect he went to the sandbox and did what he did the first go round…disappear, start another blog, and hope people find him.
Or, was he shut down when the military started managing the blogs…..
Info would be appreciated. He is how I found this blog, and how I have now found a place where I feel like I belong…I live in Vermont, so it’s quite a deep liberal blue here….
so this is why he wont show up for the job he has and hasn’t shown up for 2 years lmaooooooo
oh lawdyy
On November 9th, 2008 at 10:31 am,
I have a nephew who got a football scholarship to University of Alabama, he is going to Dental School. I have always been a Tide Fan, they are 10-0 they beat LSU in overtime yesterday 27-21. Thank goodness that is behind us.
ROLL TIDE ROLL! Alabama #1
As usual, watched the Ohio State football game in a crisp fall Saturday while commenting on a live blog. Then I made jambalaya for lunch and then a beef and black bean soup for dinner. Two family favorites.
And then to top it all off I came down with a nasty head cold that may turn into an upper respiratory infection. Couldn’t be a fall Saturday in Ohio without that.
vt,
don’t know perhaps was trashed by Charles Johnson and his lickers. Did he ever not agree with him?
My Texas Tech Happy Dance was quickly turned into my Dallas Stars Lose Limbo last night. I didn’t even let the kidney stone passage get me down too much
Welcome to Sunday my friends. May all of you have pretty a day as it appears we are having here in North Texas.
snapping on latex and passing Tom some mucinex ( buy the generic a heckuva lot cheaper ) that stuff works for phleghm and respitory whatnot. Hope ya feel better
obami never went after Sarah Palin according to the oldman on face the licker……………..
how quickly history is rewritten these days
kidney stones?
crikey
liver marinated in red wine wrapped with bacon is a fine football snack
62 to go b4 we hit 200!!
Good Morning all from the middle of nowhere Idaho! We have a heavy overcast with showers throughout the day for most that would be a depressing Sunday, but for us in the high desert area it is a gift from God greatly helping in increasing the water table of this usually dry climate.
Good luck on installing the new flat panel FamilyMan it sounds like you are going to need it. It helps to have some experience with Air Force Technical Orders when it comes to playing with most modern electronics.
For those that waited to buy your weapons you may have to wait a couple of months before you the suppliers can catch up with the current demand. I am so glad I loaded up on the last couple of weapons I wanted after 3 October (the day crap sandwich 2.0 was signed into law). I am still working on adequate ammunition supplies in each required caliber until it no longer becomes viable due to expected tax increases. Most of the folks in the know here are predicting 300% – 500% increase in cost. I really hope they are wrong.
Welcome aboard SCTeacher. I assume by your screen name we may have gained another person with some insight/expertise into the education industry. If I’m wrong my apologies!
Well guess I will do some gaming today on the old computer and watch some DVDs (no more MSM news in this house for now) with the current weather conditions keeping me from completing the final mowing and leave raking of the fall season. Be safe folks and I wish each of you a happy Sunday!
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE (mo-lone lah-veh) Translation: Come and take them!
ops that was 63 to go
meant chicken livers now 62
The Progressives are about a Power Grab, by hook or crook. I pointed out that two of their special interest groups have been battered. Now there is Obama’s record as State Senator no one bothered to point out in the MSM how things were going for those Welfare folks in Public Housing in his district. So the Democrats promised Tolarance and Fairness. Then the first acts as President Obama is going to reward the enviromentalist and the pro abortion lobby. That is where his Prime support came from. But he used Gay folks, Feminist, Minorities and Poor folks. His first acts as President, doesn’t address any of their concerns, which oddly seem to be at odds with each other in the “Bundling of Special Interest” But those same people will keep voting Democrat because the Democrats “Brand” themselves compassionate, tolerant, and fair. Outrageous. Below what Obama did for his district, when he was a State Senator. Machiavellian Much, Senator Obama?

And I’m missing it being stuck in Califreakia. I have a TON of outside work to do back at home.
Probably will turn rotten when I get back home.
Is that still Bush’s fault? /sarc
Went out to look at some new cars this morning. Interesting that some car dealers in the Hampton Roads area are closed on Sundays. You would think with the economy “doomed to destruction”…as least by the liberals, places would be open when people aren’t working. Got to go back to the Chevy dealer Saturday for the usual oil change. They’ll be open then.
Hey Boomer,
In Couer d’Alene a local gun shop sold over one million rounds in the last thirty days.
Come on up and help me with this damn TV.
Imagine my surprize when I encountered a bummed Obama supporter. Had reality set in too soon?
Now imagine Obama’s neighbors, like Ayres, having to deal with the constant presence of Secret service agents for the next 4 years. Anyone who knows them will be investigated prior to any White House visits. What fun!
I wondered what would happen if the campaign bad behavior got rewarded. What does the media do now that they got their candidate elected? Continue to praise him or trash him? Printing the truth is out of the question since none of them know the truth anymore.
What happens when the tax rebate checks don’t pay for everything?
Sarah worked as hard as she could to bring McCain’s campaign back from the dead and has been stabbed six ways to sunday. Even if all the negative things are true about her, she worked hard and delivered enormous crowds. She raised the rating of a dead comedy show. Why should she raise the rating of any of the other dumb programs? What a bunch of thankless jerks!
bansharia:
Thanks, I might give mucinex a try, but I’m quite clear at the moment. I’ve been gargling salt water, taking DayQuil and Halls cough drops. Drinking Lipton flavored green tea as usual. The phlegm is at a minimum, but my throat and sinuses are really scratchy sore. I also feel like taking a
1, 2 or 348 hour nap.Did anybody get the license plate of that truck that just hit me?
When I feel better I’m going to try that football snack…
Tom – Buy some Zinc/Echinacea chewable tablets and suck on them slowly. At this stage they will help, but not as much as if you took them right away.
And the next time you feel even a hint of a cold do that first thing and I promise you’ll not have a sore throat for the duration of the cold and you’ll get well quicker! Works for me every time.
Hey! I got the new TV to work but the very first image on the screen was “the glorious one”.
GREAT. Now I can watch him on 53 inches of giant plasma. I think I’ll keep the small TV for the news.
I haven’t read the Chicago Libune that is home delivered each morning since Tuesday. It gives me more time to do the stuff I like to do and a lot less aggravation. My wife still likes to read it but maybe we can cancel it soon. Anyway I spent this morning stacking firewood and getting the Harley moved to the side of the garage and plugged the battery in. Should have stopped reading the papers long ago. I feel much better today.
I’m a diehard Penn State fan, but with the election, I realized the loss to Iowa wasn’t all that important to me. But, I bleed blue( Penn State that is, not democrap) and always will. USMC grunt… what happens now is we remain vigilant, protect the Constitution at all costs, and get the Republican party back to its roots. We have to knock off finding pretty boys and all that branding crap. A lot to do, but we can do it… ooohrah… Oh Happy birthday tomorrow…. Semper Fi!
My little quick poll
Who do you want to see as the GOP’s 2012 Presidentual nominee ?
@Traveler49 #61… thank you for the encouragement
MNUSMCDavid….. Happy Marine Corps Birthday. I have two boys in the Corps. Semper Fi.
Joy:
Um…sounds delicious. But I’ll definitely try it. Thanks.
My granddaughter shares a birthday with the Corps. She gets some interesting greetings from old friends of mine who are USMC through and through.
trk45lt #145:
be careful with that battery charger. don’t boil the battery dry with an over-charge. If you like, I can give you the formula for calculating the charge time if you don’t have a charger that automatically detects/tests charge levels.
TexasEngineer…. Mine does detect/test charge levels. I try to get the bike out in the winter if it gets to be around 40 degrees or so which doesnt happen in Chicago often
trk45lt:
I know what you mean…I actually work for a Chicago company via the internet and have to go up for 10-14 days at a stretch about every 5-6 weeks.
Glad to hear that you’ve got the right sort of charger…that’s what I design.
Yesterday, giving my wife a well-deserved break, I took the kids and went on a little cruise on Route 66. Sure, I’m bummed out about that socialist winning the election. But, Route 66 is there, and I always feel good when I have no place to go and all day to get there.
I know it’s probably a bad time to start a business, but, my wife and I have been thinking of starting a home-based business on the internet. That way, she can make some extra money while she’s here raising the children. We’ve started a new therapy program for our autistic son, and it’ll cost us a bundle.
Can anyone here offer us any advice or guidance on how to do an internet based business?
I think I’d like to see Sarah, you betcha, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned about that illegal immigrant stance I heard about. Please, oh, please, don’t let her hold the same position as McAmnesty. I hope someone asks her about this soon. I’m reserving all bumper sticker/T-shirt purchases until then!
Good afternoon from sunny Texas. I would like to put a question out there if you don’t mind. Been thinking about moving. My big concern here is the border situation under “the one”. Should I look further West or head to the woods of Maine? Weather is not an issue. I have lived in many climates.
Any input is appreciated!
luckydogg…how could you even consider leaving The Great State of Texas???
I’m shocked….JUST SHOCKED!!
I love Texas! The wife has family pressuring her to go North. I want West Texas…see my dilema?
GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!
I married a coonass whose father had the good sense to move to Port Arthur after WW2. I’ve turned down half a dozen jobs over the years that would have been really cool..but would have required my leaving Texas.
I’m living in the town where my 96 year old grandfather’s parents are buried…less than 100 yards from the cotton gin where my great grandfather took his cotton to be processed when my grandfather was a small boy.
My Texas roots are deep…back to the Republic of Texas. I ain’t going ANYWHERE.
GOD BLESSED TEXAS!!
We are both foster kids, so no roots per se…… Her family is trying to rebuild itself. We are more worried about our kids than ourselves…..I say hide in West Texas Mtns. she says Maine Woods……..Any input on either area is appreciated!
Well the Davis Mountains are beautiful…and isolated. Lots of area for clear fields of fire.
luckydogg said:
Texas is great. West Texas… eh, not so much.
The Northeast is beautiful, much more beautiful than Texas. They have seasons other than summer, too.
But apart from that, Texas is way better in every respect.
Man, I miss me some Texas food! Someone down there better eat some BBQ or a burrito for this misplaced Texan. That’s an order!
Only move to West Texas if you like the taste of dirt in your mouth… I prefer East Texas myself.
Thanks. I appreciate all of your comments.
Trollman…you can order barbecue from Kreuz Market in Lockhart, TX on the web. As far as I’m concerned, the best barbecue in the whole state. When I am down that way…and heading from Austin to San Antonio…the “direct” route is through Lockhart…at lunch time.
http://www.kreuzmarket.com/index.shtml
TexasEngineer, I heard about that place on a documentary I saw about BBQ. Needless to say, if you move to the Northeast, you can kiss BBQ goodbye. It is sad what passes for “BBQ” up there…
TXEngineer…Lemonade keeps kidney stones at bay.
It works! After son had chemo he got them and this
is what dr told him to drink to keep from getting more.
Bansharia…Took Mucinex one day and it made me ill
for 3 days. Mentioned this to my dentist when I went
in for a cleaning on the 3rd day and he said it did the
same to him. Careful there, please. You’re not a Bo-
ite and we need all those we can get…healthy!
Y’all can all order tamales from Hot Damn Tamales! on
the net. They are in Fort Worth and we have to send
son and dil in VA a care package at regular intervals.
They could not exist without them.
They do their own barbecue with Bone Suckin’ Sauce
and sometimes a “secret” sauce he has invented. Texans anywhere but TX is a sad state!
I have a darned cold also. Unlike you TXRose I have never had a problem with adverse reactions to mucinex.
Only problem I have is, those suckers are the size of horse pills, and I don’t have a problem taking pills but they are rather large size.
Upside is I seem to be beating it down feeling a lot better after a relaxing day.
Joy said something about zinc in an earlier post, I missed getting the Zicam in enough time to wipe this thing out. Rush is right again this stuff does work.
Hi TXRose…I’m a big limeade drinker. 2 liters a day of homemade limeade. My urologist was happy to hear about that. Told me I was doing that right.
I used to have to bootleg Big Red soda to my youngest son when he was stationed at P’cola and NAS Oceana. I even sent a 6 pack to him when he was deployed to the Persian Gulf. They’re in Japan now…but we still send care packages of Texas stuff.
Our dil is about 6 weeks into our newest grandchild. I’m about to ship a coupla zip lock bags of Kaufman county’s finest dirt to them to put under the delivery room bed.
TXEngineer, Don’t have any grandbabies but I would do the same if one was being born. They are both
Texans and are desperately wanting to move back.
Glad to hear about the limeade. I have a hard time
getting him to drink lemonade or limeade though he
does drink his water with lemon juice added. Dr said
it needs the sweet to complete the equation but he
is like Mom…no sweet tooth.
Best wishes to all of you and your “in time” addition.
Well, it starts now. In a few years, we’ll be like Britain…watch what you say!
Was just over at lgf, and read the astounding article by the doctor who says he didn’t vote Republican this year because of social conservatives. Can I quote a person whom I truly respect: Bull Puckey. He is for everything conservative but social conservatives, which means Christians. I don’t know who this guy is, but I suspect he is a shill for the left. Why shouldn’t Christians have ideas of value and present those to the electorate. Is he pro abortion, evidently. Late term abortion, evidently, because those are social ideas that Christians expound, but evidently aren’t worth considering because they come from the “religious right.” Ad homin in the extreme.
