Saturday night open thread

What a week, huh? What did you do today to decompress? I cleaned the house, had friends over, cleaned the house again, and did crafts and games with the kids. We’re having a Malkin Family Game Tournament: Boggle, Monopoly Jr., Upwords, and two video games (Beach Bocce and Big Brain Academy). I stink at Bocce.

Speaking of kids, did you hear Piper Palin’s interview? She’s a darling.

I am still working on adequate ammunition supplies in each required caliber until it no longer becomes viable due to expected tax increases. The Progressives are about a Power Grab, by hook or crook. I pointed out that two of their special interest groups have been battered. Now there is Obama’s record as State Senator no one bothered to point out in the MSM how things were going for those Welfare folks in Public Housing in his district. So the Democrats promised Tolarance and Fairness. Then the first acts as President Obama is going to reward the enviromentalist and the pro abortion lobby. That is where his Prime support came from. But he used Gay folks, Feminist, Minorities and Poor folks. His first acts as President, doesn’t address any of their concerns, which oddly seem to be at odds with each other in the “Bundling of Special Interest” But those same people will keep voting Democrat because the Democrats “Brand” themselves compassionate, tolerant, and fair. Outrageous. Below what Obama did for his district, when he was a State Senator. Machiavellian Much, Senator Obama?

Now imagine Obama’s neighbors, like Ayres, having to deal with the constant presence of Secret service agents for the next 4 years. Anyone who knows them will be investigated prior to any White House visits. What fun!
I wondered what would happen if the campaign bad behavior got rewarded. What does the media do now that they got their candidate elected? Continue to praise him or trash him? Printing the truth is out of the question since none of them know the truth anymore.
What happens when the tax rebate checks don’t pay for everything?
Sarah worked as hard as she could to bring McCain’s campaign back from the dead and has been stabbed six ways to sunday. Even if all the negative things are true about her, she worked hard and delivered enormous crowds. She raised the rating of a dead comedy show. I love Texas! The wife has family pressuring her to go North. I want West Texas…see my dilema?

    GOD BLESS TEXAS!!!

Texas is great. West Texas… eh, not so much.

The Northeast is beautiful, much more beautiful than Texas. They have seasons other than summer, too. But apart from that, Texas is way better in every respect.

Man, I miss me some Texas food! Someone down there better eat some BBQ or a burrito for this misplaced Texan. That’s an order!

Trollman…you can order barbecue from Kreuz Market in Lockhart, TX on the web. As far as I’m concerned, the best barbecue in the whole state. When I am down that way…and heading from Austin to San Antonio…the “direct” route is through Lockhart…at lunch time.

TexasEngineer, I heard about that place on a documentary I saw about BBQ. Needless to say, if you move to the Northeast, you can kiss BBQ goodbye. It is sad what passes for “BBQ” up there…

Y’all can all order tamales from Hot Damn Tamales! on
the net. They are in Fort Worth and we have to send
son and dil in VA a care package at regular intervals.
They could not exist without them.
They do their own barbecue with Bone Suckin’ Sauce
and sometimes a “secret” sauce he has invented. Texans anywhere but TX is a sad state!

I have a darned cold also. Unlike you TXRose I have never had a problem with adverse reactions to mucinex.

Only problem I have is, those suckers are the size of horse pills, and I don’t have a problem taking pills but they are rather large size.

Upside is I seem to be beating it down feeling a lot better after a relaxing day.

Joy said something about zinc in an earlier post, I missed getting the Zicam in enough time to wipe this thing out. Rush is right again this stuff does work.

Hi TXRose…I’m a big limeade drinker. 2 liters a day of homemade limeade. My urologist was happy to hear about that. Told me I was doing that right.

I used to have to bootleg Big Red soda to my youngest son when he was stationed at P’cola and NAS Oceana. I even sent a 6 pack to him when he was deployed to the Persian Gulf. They’re in Japan now…but we still send care packages of Texas stuff.

Our dil is about 6 weeks into our newest grandchild. I’m about to ship a coupla zip lock bags of Kaufman county’s finest dirt to them to put under the delivery room bed.

Glad to hear about the limeade. I have a hard time
getting him to drink lemonade or limeade though he
does drink his water with lemon juice added. Dr said
it needs the sweet to complete the equation but he
    is like Mom…no sweet tooth.
Best wishes to all of you and your “in time” addition.

Judge Bans Use Of “Illegal” and “Aliens”

This is very much in keeping with the usual Leftist fantasy that changing the word for a thing changes both the underlying reality and people’s attitude towards it. In fact, the new term rapidly acquires all the associations of the old. Already, I am not the only one to use “undocumented” derisively, for instance.

“Arizona’s Supreme Court Justice has agreed to enforce the Hispanic Bar Association’s demands of banning the terms “illegal” and “aliens” in all of the state’s courtrooms. Claiming that the terms are inflammatory, the president of Arizona’s Hispanic Bar Association, (known as Los Abogados) has asked state Supreme Court Chief Justice Ruth McGregor to stop using them at trials or hearings because they create perceptions of judicial bias.

“The Webster’s dictionary defines the adjective “alien” as “belonging or relating to another person, place, or thing” and the noun “differing in nature or character typically to the point of incompatibility”. This is exactly what is intended. The denial of using this language is itself prejudicial. This goes to the core of the debate. They are “alien” and “different”. “Illegal” is also not allowed”

In a strongly worded letter to the chief justice, Los Abogados’ president says attaching an illegal status to a person establishes a brand of contemptibility, creates the appearance of anti-immigrant prejudice and tarnishes the image of courts as a place where disputes may be fairly resolved.

It further points out that no human being is illegal and that a national Hispanic journalism association has roundly criticized the reference for dehumanizing a segment of the population. The letter goes on to criticize the state’s High Court for using the term “illegals” in at least two opinions and the term “illegal aliens” in dozens of others.

It concludes with a list of acceptable and unacceptable terms relating to illegal immigration. Among those the group wants banned are; immigration crisis, immigration epidemic, open borders advocates, anchor babies and invaders. Among the acceptable terms are foreign nationals, unauthorized workers and human rights advocates.

Well, it starts now. In a few years, we’ll be like Britain…watch what you say!

Was just over at lgf, and read the astounding article by the doctor who says he didn’t vote Republican this year because of social conservatives. Can I quote a person whom I truly respect: Bull Puckey. He is for everything conservative but social conservatives, which means Christians. I don’t know who this guy is, but I suspect he is a shill for the left. Why shouldn’t Christians have ideas of value and present those to the electorate. Is he pro abortion, evidently. Late term abortion, evidently, because those are social ideas that Christians expound, but evidently aren’t worth considering because they come from the “religious right.” Ad homin in the extreme.
