Biden booed at Eagles-Giants game Updated
Scroll down for update…

Any of you watching the Eagles-Giants game? A friend e-mailed me that our illustrious Vice President-elect Joe Biden was booed by Philly fans.
He’s the silver lining on the gloomy Election 2008 cloud.
AP notes the incident:
Eli Manning threw two TD passes and John Carney kicked two field goals to give the NFC East-leading New York Giants a 20-17 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles at halftime on Sunday night.
Trying to slice a game off New York’s lead, Philadelphia scored two touchdowns off Giants’ turnovers. Donovan McNabb threw a TD pass and lined up as a wideout on a trick play score that gave the Eagles their first touchdown. David Akers kicked a 29-yard field goal as the first half expired to make it 20-17.
The Giants and Eagles played in front of a special guest. Vice President-elect Joe Biden watched the game in a luxury suite with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie. Biden was booed when he was showed on the video screen.
Take all the comic relief you can get.
***
Reader Craig e-mails: “I was at the Eagles game tonight, and the booing was so loud they took him off after only a few seconds. I hope it makes all the news rounds the way [the Philly booing of] Sarah Palin did.”
Commenter Confutus notes: “Didn’t Philly fans boo Palin when she showed up at a hockey game not so long ago? I’m not quite sure what you can make of either one, except perhaps that Philly fans may be bipartisan in their dislike of politicians.”
Yeah. That’s a good thing.
***
Update: Several readers say the booing was over a ref’s call.
Here’s one: “Eli had just gotten sacked and he threw the ball down and wasn’t called for intentional grounding. The Philly fans were booing the non-call on the NFL’s golden boy, not Joe Biden.”
Noted. Looks like the AP will have to add a clarification, too!
More debate: Reader Mike writes that the fans were clearly booing Biden: “Even Jeffrey Lurie tried to rally the fans when he noticed they were on the screen…and the boos got louder.”
And more from reader Eric: “Michelle,
The readers that say the booing was over a replay of a ref’s call are incorrect. When they first showed him on the screen, he was loudly booed, as was accurately reported. The camera that was showing them on the screen then panned over to include both Biden and the Eagles owner, Jeffrey Lurie in the shot. As the booing began to subside, Lurie made a gesture to the fans, as if imploring them to stop. Instead they began loudly booing yet again. It was clearly directed toward Biden…not to a ref’s call. I watched the whole game. The shot didn’t coincide with any sort of call that could be deemed controversial, close or bad. It was a routine play.
By the way, some other people are trying to downplay it by saying they might have been booing the owner. The owner wasn’t in the shot when they started booing so they couldn’t have known where Biden was sitting. Then they didn’t ‘boo’ the second time until Lurie made his gesture. If they were booing Lurie, they would have started booing as soon as he was on the screen, which they didn’t.”

Hey, I always try to tell people that Philly fans only boo people who’ve earned it. Now you have some proof!
At least someone out there still has some commies, uh, er, I guess that would be the Dem party…
But they’d have shown Obama some “Brotherly” love… heck, probably would have started casting votes right on the field too!
Racist, Bitter, Clingers
Maybe they mistook him for John McCain.
Nobody I know voted, or will admit to voting for, the Communist Party. I think the entire election was rigged. I think the whole thing is phony. It was the Democrat’s turn apparently.
I repeat, NOBODY I KNOW voted for Obama!
You sure it wasn’t Giants Fans booing at Biden because he was in the luxury suite with the Eagles Owner.D’oh.
I suspect after the inauguration, there is going to be a tremendous amount of buyers remorse.
Man Arrested at Philly Obama Victory Rally for Wearing a McCain/Palin T-Shirt
No surprise, since they booed Santa Claus.
Didn’t Philly fans boo Palin when she showed up at a hockey game not so long ago? I’m not quite sure what you can make of either one, except perhaps that Philly fans may be bipartisan in their dislike of politicians.
Now that was Perfect.
Philly fans boo everyone, I hear.
It’s said that Philly fans would boo Jesus for dropping the Cross.
(Make your own Obama-Messiah joke.)
Palin right here
Fair and Balanced? Spin Zone? Which is it?
Obiden had better get used to it.
He was excited anyway, because at halftime, the French were ahead.
What do you mean?
I’m pretty bi-partisan in my dislike for politicians these days too. Palin is one of the only ones I still like.
That’s an edited version of that video. Read the comments on YouTube in the link you provided for the original video where he had a plastic sword sticking out the back of his shirt. If you were a police officer, would you arrest a guy with a sword sticking out his shirt when he is approaching a large crowd of people wearing a shirt that opposes the mob mentality? The guy was lucky the crowd didn’t assume that was a real sword and take it from him and try and skewer him with it.
If it had been a legit case of simply being arrested for having a McCain shirt on I would have agreed on the suppression of free speech. But your video link is not accurate.
As to the actual topic on hand, I did see while watching the game Biden get booed. I was surprised.
People in L.A. boo Tony Villar (the Mayor), and lo and behold he showed up on the Obama economic transition team.
Does this say anything about Team O, or am I just reading too much into all the negative reactions?
Just elected and already grabbing for freebies, eh Smirky?
Luxury suite? Say it ain’t so, “Home Depot” Joe…
I can’t figure out why he’s on the team. Not like he’s done anything positive for LA. Oh, yeah, except his affair with TV Anchor Salinas and his divorce. Too bad the bimbo dumped him.
Philadelphia fans would boo a cancer cure. They didn’t just boo Santa Claus, they threw snowballs at him. Recently, Governor Ed Rendell admitted he was among those throwing snowballs at Santa. Of course, at the time, he was still in the DA’s office and sort of a civilian.
The guy that got arrested in Philly was a wack job, but he was no danger. If he was willing to sacrifice himself in the name of free speech, so be it.
I wonder if Obama has ever watched a football game in his life. He doesn’t seem like the sort who would understand the complexities of American football with possessions, teams changing defenses and offenses, running different offensive and defensive plays on downs, how the ball changes possession.
At least Biden attends sporting events like this. I do not think that Obama has much interest in uniquely American sporting events–only international ones, like Basketball.
You’re lucky. I unfortunately do.
Even a broken sports crowd is right twice a year.
It was rude for them to boo Palin and it was rude for them to boo Biden.
It’s too bad so many in our society approve of that behavior regardless of political affiliation.
Bob Uecker once said that on days the Phillies are rained out, the fans go out to the airport to boo the bad landings. Eagles’ fans once booed Santa Claus. They’d boo Christ on Good Friday for dropping the cross. Those are brutal fans. Just brutal.
Respect the office, and not the man. Even though I consider Biden a total idiot, I still respect the office that he holds. It’s the same with Obama. I will always have respect for the VP and POTUS, but that doesn’t mean I respect the people who hold that office.
First executive order from the Obama White House: No booing of public servants unless they are conservatives.
It will be considered divisive if we boo any liberals or team members of the ‘messiah’s’ administration.
Now that was some scary stuff right there.
I saw that clip! Smirky had his crooked smile on, crooked as usual.
They booed him yet they still voted him into office. I don’t know what to make of that.
Yeah, makes you wonder just
whowhich voter-fraud-supporters voted for him.Sarc/off
The tide will turn
The booing was during a replay challange so I wasn’t sure at the time whether they were booing him or the officials.
Glad to hear it was over the other bad call.
But he won… and will shape our future.
Not surprising, really.
I boo loudly whenever I see him on the TV or in the paper.
Peejz,
I agree that is some very scary video from Ace of Spade HQ. I hope that that citizen gets a very good lawyer and owns the city of Philly.
Whats as disgusting is watching the crowd enjoy that an American citizen is having his rights violated. The sad thing is remembering that the LA riots started with something simuliar to this when blacks started chanting and the police pulled out.
But hey its Philadelphia-the city where the Boy Scouts, Christians (hint-Philly 5), Conseravtives are denied their constitutional rights on a daily basis.

Biden is a pompous ass.
If you’re not trying to be funny, then I understand and I’ll let you know that your ignorance is showing.
Has the early voting already started for 2012?
Milwaukee Mike, I’ll do you one better. I boo him everytime I even think of him.
Lucky for him it wasn’t a Phils game over at Citizens Bank Park.
He would have dodging projectiles, for sure!

Maybe that will wipe some of that stupid smirk of his from his face!
It’s gonna be a rough four years for King Zero and Capt Gafftastic.
It is a funny any time Biden gets booed by anyone. I take this with a bit of a grain of salt, however. These are Philly fans, after all, and Eagles fans at that. In one of their more infamous moments, they booed Santa Claus at a game. That’s right, Old Saint Nick brought out the boo-birds.
Believe it or not, this has already been tried. In 1798 the Sedition Act was passed.
“The legislation sponsored by the Federalists was also intended to quell any political opposition from the Republicans, led by Thomas Jefferson.”
“The Sedition Act, passed on July 14 declared that any treasonable activity, including the publication of “any false, scandalous and malicious writing,” was a high misdemeanor, punishable by fine and imprisonment. By virtue of this legislation twenty-five men, most of them editors of Republican newspapers, were arrested and their newspapers forced to shut down.”
Maybe he is trying to learn from history.
I knew my Philly upbringing was still evident. I distrust politicians as usual. Now I remember where it came from…. The Eagles lost but gotta love Philadelphians… well the conservative ones anyway.
I recall when they showed Biden there was a disputed call or penalty on the field and I believe it was just coincidental Biden was shown at that time.
I’m not defenidng the guy, trust me. Although if some fans who were there say their ire was directed at him, I’ll defer to them.
Booing all across America
The Phoenix Gun Show is December 5-6-7 at the Fair Grounds for those interested.
Buy Buy or bye bye? Both?
Even Philly fans had better be careful regarding public displays of disrespect towards our Great Leaders. Don’t they know that Rahm “they’re all dead, dead, dead!” Emanuel is the Messiah’s right hand man and fixer now? Hide the AK-47s, I sure hope that Lincoln Financial Field is still used for football games four years from now.
That being said, how did Joe “Mr. Blue-Collar-Scranton Scrapple-Iron City/Rolling Rock Beer, etc, Biden” not get a Joe Paterno-like welcome back to the Keystone State? sarcasm/off.
When I pay good money to go to a sports event, I do not want vote grubbing politicians smiling at me from the jumbotron. I want to watch the game, not be exposed to the phony smiles of politicians who pretend to be just like me while sitting in the owner’s box and getting a limo ride to and from the event. Politicians of all stripes are only interested in themselves, are uniformly smug and conceited and I don’t need to look at them when I am at the ballpark. As for Biden, he is even worse than most of these guys. Recall his recent statement that he has “forgotten more about foreign policy then any other senator will ever learn”. But maybe Biden should be asked to explain his statement that he stole from Neil Kinnock when Biden said that his (Biden’s) grandpa worked under the ground in a mine shaft for 16 hours and then came up and played 8 hours of football. In fact, Biden’s grandpa never was a coalminer for one day of his life. No Biden ever worked in a mine shaft. And Biden did not know that when Neil Kinnock talked about his own grandpa “playing football for 8 hours a day”, Kinnock was talking about soccer, not American football. Can anyone imagine if Dan Quayle or Sarah Palin got caught not knowing that British football is soccer and not American style football? Katie Couric and Keith Olbermann would go absolutely nuts about it. Letterman would joke about it for two weeks.
I really wish people would stop trotting out the old saw about booing Santa Claus. You can look up the whole story, but the short version is that fans, upset about the fact that the Eagles who were terrible, were out-tanked in the final game of the season, and lost the number one draft pick (O.J.) and then were treated to a drunken, disheveled substitute Santa who, to put it bluntly, was an embarrassment.
My fellow fans deserve a lot of the criticism they get, but this is the equivalent of folks saying Sarah didn’t know Africa is a continent.
And btw, it was years before Rendell became D.A.
Philly fans are just plain brutal no matter who they’re booing. It’s just their nature!
Im sorry… but who are the Eagles and the Giants? Thats basketball, right?
Just to let you know, google “palin booed flyers” turns up 990,000 hits. Google “biden booed eagles” turns up 72,100.
Not surprising, seeing as liberals don’t like sports and would never consider doing anything as lowbrow as going to a football game.
