Schwarzenegger pours fuel on anti-Prop. 8 fire

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 9, 2008 11:40 PM

The GOP governor of California is encouraging church-bashing protesters to continue to defy the will of the people and wreak havoc until Proposition 8, the traditional marriage ballot measure, is overturned.

Yep, Arnold Schwarzenegger — who wants to “rebrand” the Republican Party in his image — apparently applauds the mob taking to the streets and targeting people of faith:

Reporting from Sacramento and Pasadena — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today expressed hope that the California Supreme Court would overturn Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that outlawed same-sex marriage. He also predicted that the 18,000 gay and lesbian couples who have already married would not be affected by the initiative.

“It’s unfortunate, obviously, but it’s not the end,” Schwarzenegger said in an interview on CNN this morning. “I think that we will again maybe undo that, if the court is willing to do that, and then move forward from there and again lead in that area.”

With his favorable comments toward gay marriage, the governor’s thinking appears to have evolved on the issue.

In past statements, he has said he personally believes marriage should be between a man and a woman and has rejected legislation authorizing same-sex marriage. Yet he has also said he would not care if same-sex marriage were legal, saying he believed that such an important societal issue should be determined by the voters or the courts.

Following that position, he publicly opposed Proposition 8, which amends the state Constitution to declare that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

Today, Schwarzenegger urged backers of gay marriage to follow the lesson he learned as a bodybuilder trying to lift weights that were too heavy for him at first. “I learned that you should never ever give up. . . . They should never give up. They should be on it and on it until they get it done.”

An anti-Prop. 8 rally in Palm Springs turned violent over the weekend. Mormon churches, evangelical churchs, and Catholics continue to be threatened.

To the Left and to “rebranding” advocate Arnold Schwarzenegger, tolerance is a one-way street.

The people in this state voted, and it was passed. It’s time to respect our vote and get on with life. The people here voted on this subject in 2001, and now we voted again. It’s over. Get over it. Because of one judge who overturned the will of the people, you can’t expect to shove down this agenda down the throats of 38 million people in this state to satisfy a negligible minority. This is not a civil “right”.

But then again, did we expect anything more from this man? After all, he IS married to a Kennedy (Shriver) after all.

The African-American population in the US is about 12%, so to suggest that the gay population is that high is preposterous. If it’s any higher than 5% I’d be VERY surprised.

But on the whole you’re totally right about knuckling under for such a puny percentage of our population. And really, it isn’t about “marriage” per se, but rather about the ceremony of the wedding, and further corrupting our religious institutions.

Some apostate churches would LOVE to perform marriage ceremonies in their buildings, but what about the rest of us? If a “gay” couple came into the church that I attend, and they demand to be married, or else, because they have the full weight of the state law to enforce their decision, then it’s simply the state deciding against the people’s constitutional right to practice their religious faith according to its doctrines and their conscience.

As with everything coming at us, it’s fascism. They are destroying America as fast as their diabolical minds can conceive of the means to do so.

I like Voddie Baucham’s take on this issue. Here’s a piece of what he wrote:

The other issue that is crucial for us to understand is that –contrary to popular belief– homosexuals are not denied equal rights when it comes to marriage. Homosexuals have always had the same access to marriage heterosexuals have. Moreover, homosexuals have been getting married in this country for centuries. We have all heard the stories about gay men and lesbian women who get married for one reason or another. Some have gotten married to ‘hide’ their homosexuality (Rock Hudson, for example). Others have gotten married in denial of their homosexuality. However, we must not miss the point. These people can get married!
The whole Civil Rights argument is a red herring. Think about it, homosexuals claim that they are denied rights in ways similar to blacks in the years prior to the Civil Rights Movement. They claim that this is a “Jackie Robinson” issue. But there is a difference. Black baseball players were denied the right to play baseball. They did not want to add a fifth base, a tenth player, or a fourth strike. They wanted to play the same game! Homosexuals are not asking for equality in marriage (they have that), they are asking for a redefinition of marriage. We mustn’t allow this one to slide as we attempt to offer an apologetic for our marriage position.

Allowing gays to marry in no way devalues marriage (anymore than straight people have devalued it) and it makes marriage no less valuable for raising children.

But that being said, gays have relied on a bogus “right” to marriage. Since we want society to make a big change in an important institution, it is up to us to make the case for it.

    Chronic deficits.

The Dems knew that Angelides was a loser. That is why they steered resources to the much more contested Lt. Governor’s race. Tom McClintock was the only person in California who could truly put its fiscal situation in order. But Schwarzenegger did squat to help his fellow Republican. It is very common for blacks to despise homosexuals so a lot of blacks supported the Californian ballot measure to bar homosexual “marriage”. In response the homosexuals did a passable imitation of the KKK. There’s nothing like that Leftist “tolerance”!

“The recent passage of California’s Proposition 8 has exposed some of the latent racism of many within the LGBT community-instigated in part by many in the e-telligentsia such as revisionist Andrew Sullivan and sex advisor turned sociologist Dan Savage. Unfortunately the “blame the blacks” meme is being commonly accepted by some so-called “progressive” gay activists. A number of Rod 2.0 and Jasmyne Cannick readers report being subjected to taunts, threats and racist abuse at last night’s marriage equality rally in Los Angeles….

It was like being at a klan rally except the klansmen were wearing Abercrombie polos and Birkenstocks. YOU NIGGER, one man shouted at men. Jasmyne Cannick has a similar and unfortunate report. “I have received several phone calls from Blacks, both gay and straight, who were caught up in Westwood around the time of that march. From being called ‘niggers’ to being accosted in their cars and told that it was because of ‘you people gays don’t have equal rights and you better watch your back,’ these gays have lost their damn minds.”

My father voted for Obama, he figures that republicans have been at the helm and he has been losing over one-hundred-thousand dollars a month since the financial meltdown and all he sees is the republicans pissing more money at the fire. I tried to talk to him about the “change” that Obama will bring, and he said, “Good, it will take a Lincoln to fix this mess.” I can’t blame him really; losing one-hundred-thousand of hard earned savings per month has GOT to be hurting….

It’s way past the time for the RINOs to go.

As for gay rights and all that jazz, Thomas Sowell once again hits the nail on the head:

Another fraud on the ballot this year is gay “marriage.”

Marriage has existed for centuries and, until recent times, it has always meant a union between a man and a woman. Over those centuries, a vast array of laws has grown up, all based on circumstances that arise in unions between a man and a woman.

Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes said that law has not been based on logic but on experience. To apply a mountain of laws based specifically on experience with relations between a man and a woman to a different relationship where sex differences are not involved would be like applying the rules of baseball to football.

The argument that current marriage laws “discriminate” against homosexuals confuses discrimination against people with making distinctions among different kinds of behavior.

All laws distinguish among different kinds of behavior. What other purpose does law have?

While people may be treated the same, all their behaviors are not. Laws that forbid bicycles from being ridden on freeways obviously have a different effect on people who have bicycles but But this is not discrimination against a person. The cyclist who gets into a car is just as free to drive on the freeway as anybody else.

The question is not whether gays should be permitted to marry. Many gays have already married people of the opposite sex. Conversely, heterosexuals who might want to marry someone of the same sex in order to make some point will be forbidden to do so, just as gays are.

The real issue is whether marriage should be redefined– and, if for gays, why not for polygamists? Why not for pedophiles?

Despite heavy television advertising in California for “gay marriage,” showing blacks being set upon by police dogs during civil right marches, and implying that homosexuals face the same discrimination today, the analogy is completely false.

Blacks had to sit in the back of the bus because they were black. They were doing exactly what white people were doing– riding a bus. That is what made it racial discrimination.

Marriage is not a right but a set of legal obligations imposed because the government has a vested interest in unions that, among other things, have the potential to produce children, which is to say, the future population of the nation.

Gays were on their strongest ground when they said that what they did was nobody else’s business. Now they are asserting a right to other people’s approval, which is wholly different.

None of us has a right to other people’s approval.

    More here.

Back in the day when the Democratic Party was Center-Left, not hard Left, and had loyal, patriotic and anti-communist members, Arnold would have made a good Democrat.

So would John McCain. Joe Lierberman is that kind of Democrat, so he is being drummed out of the party. The Democratic Party of Harry Truman and Scoop Jackson is gone, replaced by a party very similar to the splinter “Progressive Party” of Henry Wallace, who split from Truman’s Democrats in 1948 to run as a pro-Soviet candidate. He had visited the USSR in the 1930s, had even seen the gulags, and still fell in love with Stalin.

The Progressives lost and rejoined the party, but Progressive Party members like George McGovern eventually took control of the party, and as the Dems lurched leftwards, moderate to conservative Democrats like Phil Gramm left the party.

Now, Gramm was a net plus, but absorbing centrists, and even Center-Leftists, has pulled the GOP close to the middle.

Ronald Reagan was able to make it clear to people of the center that left wing Dem policies were disasterous. Hence the famous ‘Reagan Democrats’ John McCain couldn’t capture.

Instead of being Democrat-Lites, it is time for the GOP to be the conservative party again. Better to run real conservatives like, say, McClintock and lose, than run Center-Leftists like Schwarzenegger who can’t argue that uber-lib policies are wrong because he embraces so many himself.

I still say a Third Party in a two party system can’t win, but maybe a pre-primary confab where people like Duncan Hunter, Tancredo, Thompson, Jindal and Palin can decide who has the best chance of winning and running just one or two conservatives, so a RINO like John McCain can’t win again by capturing all the open primary Dems and Independents while the four or five somewhat conservative candidates split the vote is the way to go.

Maybe 2%, not more, are gay. Otherwise think for a second what the demographics would be if the number were that high: we would never achieve replacement of our native population (leaving out immigrants). That would have been the case throughout our history, and everyone else’s, if homosexuality were such a prevalent natural condition.

I’m one who believes it’s mainly a birth defect, not a choice or mental disorder, so my argument is based on that premise. I’ve never understood the “lifestyle” argument, because gays have historically been shunned and despised. Why choose that fate? And suppose everyone “decided” to be gay? Humans would quickly disappear from the Earth.

Any behavior that actively reduces one’s own reproduction is an evolutionary loser, so even if it’s “natural”, or a chosen “lifestyle”, being homosexual automatically makes one a recipient of a Darwin Award.

In any case marriage must remain what it’s always been: a relationship between a man and a woman. California and other states voting on the issue have confirmed that view, and in our republican form of government, it’s the people or their representatives, not the courts, that get to decide such issues.
