Targeting law-abiding gun owners again
Look at what they’re doing in Oregon to licensed concealed weapons owners (hat tip – Orbusmax)
Washington County’s sheriff is asking 10,000 people who hold concealed handgun licenses whether they want their names made public if it is requested as an Oregon public record.
Sheriff Rob Gordon said he believes that people obtain these licenses as a security measure, which would exempt the release of their names. But a circuit court in Jackson County ruled in April that people have to document that the license is for security reasons in order to be exempt from public records law.
On Friday, license holders will be mailed letters asking them to say whether they obtained the license for security reasons, and whether they want their information kept confidential.
“Instead of going through the process of saying that it’s implied, we’re going though the process of getting the documentation that says that it is,” said Sgt. Vance Stimler, public information officer at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
When The Mail Tribune in Medford requested names of concealed handgun license holders as a public record in 2007, the Jackson County Sheriff refused the request based on Oregon law that states records are not public if they could reveal a person’s security measures or weaknesses. But Jackson County’s Circuit Court ruled that each individual must specify that he or she doesn’t want any personal information released. If not, their names are public record.
The ruling is now in front of the Oregon Court of Appeals. No court date is set.
If each applicant requests to keep their information private, then Oregon law will allow the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to reject a request for names of license holders, Stimler said.
“Essentially we follow the law and the law stated that people had personal protection reasons for getting them,” Stimler said. “We’re just trying to follow the interpretation.”
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office will confirm that a person has a concealed handgun license if someone calls with a name, said Deputy Paul McRedmond, public information officer. They approve public record requests for general release of names on a case-by-case basis.
In Clackamas County, the sheriff’s office will release the information for properly made requests, said Det. Jim Strovink, public information officer.
We live in a country where convicted illegal alien felons have more privacy rights than law-abiding gun owners.

I just obtained my Texas CHL and privacy is not my major concern. “The One” is against the concept of lawful citizens carrying concealed weapons, or for private citizens even being permitted to own a gun for that matter.
We hope Oregonians attempt to remedy this situation in their next legislative session as did Virginia. The Roanoke Times pulled this same stupid stunt all the while condemning gun owners for decrying gun registration and concealed carry permit schemes. Lord help the lawfully-armed woman attempting to hide from a potentially murderous ex after the local paper reveals her new address. When this privacy violation occured in Virginia, a local probation officer had a few ex-cons visit his home while his wife was present, but he was not. Once again LIBERALS prove themselves untrustworthy and extremely dangerous.
Both Mrs. Boomer and I have CCW issued by the Elmore Country Sheriff’s Office in compliance with Idaho State Law. The objective is that no one knows you are carrying, but you and of course the state which is linked to your driver’s license number. Once again we have a bunch of bureaucrats that don’t understand their responsibilities under the Privacy Act of 1974 and Oregon privacy laws. It almost sounds like they are pushing for open carry by outing law abiding citizens that ought to scare the hell out of the local liberal population.
Mrs. Boomer was born and raised in central Oregon and I signed up as an Oregon citizen when we married in 1983. The Willamette Valley of Western Oregon and the Eastern Cascade city of Bend has been completely taken over by an influx of liberal Californian’s over the last 25 years making life there overpriced and unliveable. One of many reasons we love living in the middle of nowhere Idaho.

So the taxpayers have to pay for mass mailings and then data entry for potentially 10,000 records. All so this newspaper can pursue the liberal agenda.
Of course, taxpayers should be upset that their money is being spent on this foolishness and let the paper know that. However, there seems to be some fundamental disconnect between taxpayers and government. People seem to just accept any stupid thing the government wants to spend money on without realizing THEY are paying for it.
The only way to end this issue is to

Whatever restriction or burden that is deemed “reasonable” for one individual liberty, can be easily “implied” to exist with all other individual liberties. The attacks on the Second Amendment are but a backdoor to government usurpation of all other freedoms, i.e., an attack on the Second Amendment is an attack on the Bill of Rights.
I don’t have a CCW here. But, shortly after Oklahoma passed it’s law issueing CCW’s, the Tulsa World wanted to publish the names and addresses of licensees. The said that they believed it was “the right of the people” to know who was carrying a gun.
They got plumb irate when the state would not release that data to them.
I read it was around $5K.
I did shortly before the election. I carry my membership card in my wallet. I am getting a gun as a gift from my father-in-law and the only way Obama will confiscate it is if he shows up on my doorstep and personally asks for it.
And even then, he’ll have to pry it from my cold, dead, hands…
IIRC, Florida’s CCW law states that permit-holders names are a matter of public record. There is an exception for law enforcement personnel and other criminal-justice types.
I’m nervous enough about the erosion of second-amendment rights that I am seriously thinking of buying some guns (while they are still legally available at my friendly local range) that I have been too cheap to buy previously. The local newspapers report that similar sentiment is leading to increases in gun sales across Florida.
Even if the records are not public, the government still has a list of people that own guns.
When they outlaw guns, the have a list of which doors to knock on.
If you don’t have a CWP, I would suggest you not apply. And if you feel the need to add to your arsenal, I would suggest that you either buy from a private individual or at a gun show. Both cases are exempted from the background check (at least for now).
My fear is less of being attacked while out in public and more of being attacked in my own home. At least if your name is published as a gun owner (expecially in a liberal haven like Oregon), at least the criminals know which houses are potential places to be shot coming through a window.
It’s my understanding that in Australia they started with registration, and then when they outlawed guns, they just went around knocking on doors with list in hand.
And don’t buy into that “the background checks are deleted every three days” (or whatever it is). We all know that nothing is ever fully deleted from a computer disk.
Sorry about the rant, but every instance of despot government takeover has started with confiscation of guns. Citizens that can’t fight back are easier to control.

In the People’s Republik of Kalifornia, it’s almost impossible to get one. You’ll end up spending close to $400 and fill out an ungodly long form, present character witnesses, background check, etc., and that’s not a guarantee, because the county sheriff will have to make the ultimate call on it. So, if he doesn’t like the way you even look, he can deny you. Based on nothing.

Obama cannot single-handedly amend the Constitution, which is what it would take for your scenario to play out. Such a bill wouldn’t make it through the Senate, and if they make a serious attempt to it will bring a backlash that gives Congress back to us in 2010.
However, just because Obama doesn’t can’t repeal the 2nd Amendment doesn’t mean that he’s not a serious threat to our rights. Any gun owners that bought into his BS and voted for should be ashamed of themselves. Sadly, simple arithmetic tells us there are an awful lot of such people out there. Frankly, I think anyone who’s jaw-droppingly stupid enough to believe Biden’s “he can’t fool with my Beretta” nonsense is de facto unqualified to own a gun anyway.

I live in Washington county and will be expecting my letter soon. Sheriff Gordon is a stand up guy who will do what he can to protect our privacy. That being said, Oregon has gone so far left that I don’t even recognize her anymore. Four days after the election Gov. Kulongoski announces he wants to raise the gas tax and fees. This in order to make more jobs by building roads. He is hands down the worst Governor in the U.S. We are constantly fighting off the Marxists in Portland just to keep a foothold. I like to call Portland Marxism “green Marxism”. Everything is tied to bicycle riding as if somehow bicycle riding can bring nirvana. We need help out here. Hopefully young conservative breeders.

I may not have completely thought this through but I have a concealed weapons license and I don’t really care who knows it. My state requires that a “concealed weapon” be literally concealed at all times so no one should ever see it when I am in the public view. To simply know that I am authorized to carry the weapon is of no concern to me.
Which is exactly what is going to happen. When you save your life or someone else’s because you are packing, the fine is worth it.

Have the Oregon newspapers print any and all “private” information on all judges. Their phone numbers, addresses, the fact they have no guns registered, their social security numbers, etc.

Another thought on privacy. It is not just the bad people I don’t want knowing I carry. It is all of my peers. As an artist, I am often surrounded by other Artists. These people will go ballistic and harass me to no end. There is no such thing in the liberal mind as tolerance. If for no other reason but to go about my daily business without the verbal assaults, it is important to keep my privacy. Yes, yes I can stand up for myself and I’m not a wimp. I just want some personal peace and tranquility.
Sex offenders addresses are not public material over in my state. Only the street and area where they live is publicized.
Why should law abiding citizens have their names publicly available? I have the answer for you. So that other government agencies and politicians can make their names available to anyone who might want to start making a list of guns to take away. Regardless of anything but politics.
I would never say “No way”, but I will say that they’ll have to physically remove my pistol from my body.
There is no reason to publish anyone’s name – period! I know we will chew on it till there is no flavor left, but honestly – we gain nothing and there isn’t a benefit one in doing it!

The Second Amendment will not be changed. First comes banning assualt weapons, then limiting magazine capacity to 5 rounds, then banning any weapon that is semi automatic. And so on. Then the Dems can go on about supporting Second Amendment rights while the only guns you can purchase are single shot in a limited variety of calibers. I haven’t owned a gun in several years, but now I’m thinking very seriously about rearming. I don’t live (now) where I feel there’s a security threat, but I am less certain about the future. Besides, I have always enjoyed shooting. And by the way, I once went with a group of guys from overseas to an indoor gun range where they could shoot whatever they wanted, handguns or rifles (no shotguns), and they were so pumped up about it! In their home countries, no way would the government allow them to have a gun.

This is one of the reasons I am a single issue voter. If I can’t trust a politician to stand up for my right to defend my family, my property, or myself with the most efficient means ever devised, why should I trust him with anything?

Unfortunately, in no part of the country can the police “defend” you, they can only do something if someone is really stupid and threatens you in their presence with a gun in their possesion. Anyone wanting to steal a gun from an owner in the state had best review the state self defense laws. To paraphase: “if one feels they or anyone else feels or it is shown to be threaten one has the right to defend themselves or others being threaten.” No need to drag their scaly a$$es in your house to show intrusion. More educated idiots in charge of justice? Besides it being a “right” to keep and bear arms, what other reason would a person have to legally conceal a weapon, other than for security?

What legitimate purpose would there be to publish the names and addresses of those with lawful CW permits? I can think of all kinds of reasons some on the left would want this information, but NONE of them are legitimate, and all are designed to promote trouble for the gun owners.
It is quite obvious the judges on this circuit court have no inkling of the purpose of concealing weapons. Perhaps they think those with the permits do it to be “cool?” I know of no one in this community who brags about having a CWP, or for that matter, want it to be common knowledge…for a reason! I am a life member of NRA and send money nearly every month. They are only ones I know who continue to fight for our rights. I have visited several gun stores in the last month and all say it is hard to keep guns in stock due to people buying them. Everyone is afraid of the lies of Obama. Word of advice – buy at least one or two from sources that don’t have a paper trail, such as a gunshow. Obama will try to corrupt the ATF more than it already is and get everyone’s name who buys a gun through a licensed dealer. And stock up on ammo.
In Hawaii, if you discharge the firearm, you can be charged with reckless endangerment, even if you are protecting someone. You have to retreat except in your own home. If you kill someone defending yourself you are automatically arrested and the Prosecutor decides what to do with you. If you are a Hula teacher and rape some little boy, you get off because you are a cultural icon.
Its beginning right under our noses. The liberal press is starting to assimilate names of folks with CWPs. So the Obama National Security Force can arrest and sieze your weapons. We cannot trust the media any longer. I recommend you start looking into survial lore and stocking up on food, water and ammo. If you stay in your houses thats the first place they will look. If you trust the government to associate your name and address with facts about your possession of weapons, you are lost. Perhaps the authorities will allow you to defend yourself from housebreakers and thugs, but you will be no use at all if you need them to defend our liberty from a government gone bad.
All forms of weapon registration, licensing, type-compliance and purchase control leave a record. Should our Constitution be abrogated, that record will be used to disarm you.
Have you wondered about Obama’s “Civilian Defense Force”? Might it not be a way to form that “well regulated militia” of the Second Amendment? If such a twist of the Founder’s intent were to become law, then only Obama’s brownshirts could legally go armed. Paranoia or vigilance? Time (and not much of it) will tell.
A former acquaintance of mine went off on me when he overheard me discussing how to obtain an Oklahoma Concealed Handgun License. He turned red in the face and was almost spitting in his fury and disdain. I calmly said to him, “You are a brave man.” When he asked what I meant, I responded, “You are nearly screaming at me, approaching within my comfort zone to verbally abuse me, and I’m carrying a gun.” He turned white and left.
My dear mother asked me why I thought I needed to carry a gun. I told her I didn’t need to carry a gun; I chose to carry a gun. She got nervous every time I went over to her house until another elderly woman was murdered just down the street from her house. Then she asked me or my brother to stay with her until the killers were caught. “Could you come stay with me and bring your gun?”

The EXACT reason the 2nd Amendment will fall. Remember “Taxation without representation”? If you run a corporation or business you know where I am going. Here is an example: I buy a computer with after-tax dollars, pay sales tax on it and am taxed for using it in business. So, “Taxation without representation” is no longer a protection for the people, it is the norm and we are used to it and can’t change it (nor do we have the belly to fight against it). If a Mayor (Ray Nagin) can make the people of NO surrender their arms, how much more so the POTUS? Sure, the NRA won that battle. This land is filling with idiots at an alarming rate and all it will take is a crockumentary by Michael Moore or AlGore about children being killed and the idiots will line up and surrender more of their rights.

And just exactly who do you all think will be collecting the guns? The police know where criminal gangs live and know they are armed illegally but they sure as hell do not go knocking on the door saying give up your guns. They are smarter than that. I doubt very much that the military members I have worked with for 20+ years would ever follow such an order. It would not take long for them to realize that in this country, “homey don’t play that.”
Want an example? Remember how Clinton was going to allow homosexuals to serve OPENLY in the military? That became “don’t ask, don’t tell” when many of the leading military brass said no way.

Just saw over on CNN.com a headline, “Gun sales surge after Obama election.”
That headline was under the category heading of “CRIME.” This is one of the ways they are starting the attack. They will make the sheeple out there think that anyone who buys a gun is a criminal.
I’m sorry, officers. I sold all of my weapons at the gun show right before the inauguration. No, I didn’t keep receipts. It was a cash transaction.
My thoughts exactly. While my guns (and associated ammo & reloading equipment) are stored in a secure undisclosed location on my homestead.
If this makes more press, I fully expect the firearm hostile People’s Republic of Taxachusetts, to do the very same thing.
Makes me glad I’ll be living in the Free State of New Hampshire by the end of next week.
The argument against handguns and self protection by our lib buddies is so lame it defies logic. Look at Europe – Theo Van Gogh all but had his head severed by the knife-wielding nutcase that murdered him – and baseball bats is another favorite tool all over Europe to separate the innocent law-abiding citizen from his wallet/jewelry or simply his life. The world is in the grips of complete moral breakdown. But convincing a retard that a gun is safe in the hands of someone who is only interested in self protection is like trying to reason with a 3 yr. old. Temper tantrums and hissy fits. Whether you own a gun or not, join the NRA and support them in their cause to protect your rights.
Also, if you do visit a gun show – at least in my state – if you buy a weapon from a dealer it is going to leave the same hashmarks as if you went to a regular dealer/store. Only private individual sales are exempt. Don’t know if that is the same all over, but that is what I was told. I’m betting some of the serious collectors here know for sure? It’s also a very good idea to take the item directly to a gunsmith to be certain it’s safe.
The judge may not be anti-gun but may be merely trying to be thoughtful and careful.
After all, just because the Constitution says something is necessary for security, doesn’t mean that the people acquiring that thing have any interest in security. They might just be thoughtlessly exercising their rights.

I was about 2 blocks from the Van Gogh murder when it happened. Yes, they cut his throat.. While he was bleeding to death, they shot him with a pistol..
But wait, that couldn’t have happened, pistols are illegal in Holland.
Yes they are. Doesn’t stop the criminals. Doesn’t stop them here, in the UK (note the Brits have Police and Armed Police – they didn’t have the latter until they outlawed handguns), and everywhere else firearms of any form are banned.
Of course, the same thing would happen in the US. But this plays in to the DemoCommies hands. You see, with an unarmed populace, the protection of the State becomes that much more important. This helps to remove independent thought and the will to be free. Think I am exaggerating? Come and live here for a while.. Europe is a very pretty pasture full of sheep.
By the way, when the Dems do ban guns, the only people that will get permits are the rich libs that backed them financially. That way, they can protect themselves against the regular folk who show up with swords.
The way to stop this is to remind your Congressmen and Senators that you own a gun and will be voting. Then join the NRA.

When Gov George Allen approved concealed carry, to be issued on passing a background check, our little leftist propaganda organ, which at that time had a knee-jerk liberal for an editor, went ballistic. When all of their scare tactics failed, they started to print the names of people who were issued CC permits. I know some people who refused to get a CC because of this. Unfortunately, after a more “moderate” editor took over, they still do.
I have a CC permit and frankly, I dont care who knows it.

I cannot imagine the horror on the streets in Holland you witnessed. What an incredibly beautiful country and it seems from published reports the inmates are running the asylum all over Europe.
