Update: National Obama Holiday hits some road bumps

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 11, 2008 10:20 AM

Uh-oh. The planned Adoration of the Obamessiah has run into some planning snags.

Turns out that the Obama cult member who wants to lobby for the holiday doesn’t have as many supporters as he claimed, according to the Topkea Capital-Journal.

You’ll also be happy to know, he doesn’t have permission from McDonald’s to serve “Obama Cake” there on Inauguration Day:

“You absolutely do not have permission to do any kind of Obama planning,” owner Karen Tyler said in a voice mail left on Scroggins’ phone and played for The Capital-Journal.

No worries, though. The NAACP is receptive to the idea:

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, for one, was receptive if not officially behind the idea. Hilary Shelton, the national vice president of advocacy, said Obama’s election was of tremendous significance for “a community that was once enslaved.”

“Certainly this very historic moment in our history is something that should be recognized, commemorated and celebrated,” Shelton said.

Hope for The Holiday lives!

Obama’s best chance for any kind of success as president is to follow the Clinton model: Get rid of the Democrat majorities in both Houses and govern through triangulation!

He could easily remove the Democrats from control of both Houses simply by approving everything they put in front of him, signing into law the types of liberal policies that are guaranteed to offend and alienate the electorate into voting into office a Republican landslide in 2010.

I mean, the Republican landslide is gonna happen anyway, so Obama should just speed it along by acquiescing to Pelosi’s and Reid’s every proposal and begin enjoying its effects sooner.

I responded to a comment that said blacks should stop complaining because slavery was done with 150 years ago. Even a cursory glance at American history, from a few decades back up to the modern election of the first black President, proves that racism has been and still is pervasive. It is absolutely racism to insist that Colin Powell only voted for Obama because they’re both black.

    Amen!
Years ago, during the Dinkins administration, there was an incident in NYC involving a Korean deli. The Koreans moved into a largely black neighborhood and setup shop. They worked long hours and provided a service to the community. But black agitators decided to trash their business.
    Why?
Because the success of the Koreans disproved the claims (of the black whiners) that minorities couldn’t succeed in that area. The Koreans closed shop – because Dinkins failed them…..what a surprise. The local people were angry because they liked shopping at that deli…..but the black agitators won the day….and the incident was forgotten.
I’m sure the Koreans returned home with a very low opinion of the USA.

Stupid, stupid equation, Digshot. I don’t see the Catholic Church clamoring for reparations after the rather…nasty treatment we (usually Irish Catholics) received in the 18th, 19th and early 20th century:

Prejudice against Irish Catholics in the US reached a peak in the mid-1850s with the Know Nothing Movement, which tried to oust Catholics from public office. Thomas Hardy and Thomas Nast published popular political cartoons of Irish drinking, fighting, ignoring their children, gambling, and crowding poorhouses.
After 1860 the Irish sang songs (see illustration) about signs reading “HELP WANTED – NO IRISH NEED APPLY”, which were also referred to as “the NINA signs.” The song had a deep impact on the Irish sense of discrimination.

I don’t see quotas in hiring or college admissions specifying that x number of Christians need to be hired or enrolled – even if they’re not fully qualified – to make some liberal feel happy.

In fact, in Canada, their lovely Human Rights Commissions have basically said Christians have no human rights and can never be offended – not even by songs containing the non-ironic, non-satirical lyrics “Kill the Christians.”

Liberals have no one but themselves to blame if there is a backlash over claims of “racism” because it is liberals who’ve played that card so much, and in instances where no racism is present but they just don’t like the opinion of another person (usually a conservative), it’s rather become a badge of honor because you’ve destroyed and undermined any significant meaning the word once had.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and have come to the conclusion that the Left have hit on a perfect comeback to any logical argument that gets in the way of what they want. Rather like children, their comebacks usually involve insults, rarely discussion. For instance, I can’t count the times my daughter has told me she ‘hates me’, when I say no to anything she wants. The solution; ignore the insults, realize the source and stand firm in knowing that you know what is better for them. We need leaders who understand this concept, too many of them wince at the insults and rush to make it all better by capitulating their beliefs.

Where’s my symphathy and reparations?

No interracial marriage, segregation, the back of the bus, Jim Crow laws, the assassination of Martin Luther King, all of that happened a few decades ago, within people’s lifetimes

    .

First, “The Master” made a legitimate comment in response to the whining about “enslavement” by the race baiting organization’s spokeswoman. The “enslavement” comment referred to slavery (which did end 150 years ago) NOT discrimination. Second, are you seriously equating slavery to discrimination? That is a really really far stretch to equate ownership and complete control of another person’s life to being treated as a 2nd class citizen. THough, most would argue that discrimination is horrible, it is not even on the same planet as slavery.

So, you are either: A) incapable of discerning a perfectly logical argument and responding logically B) are yourself a perpetual victim who will always find a way to blame others for your own shortcomings and will always support any ridiculous claims made by the race baiting organizaitons C) lack comprehensive reading skills D) are intentionally dishonest by creatinga strawman or E) all of the above. All of this discussion about a potential Obama Holiday is fun. I would suggest we consider naming it National Lay-Off Day. Because that may become the enduring symbol of his presidency. No longwinded stem-winder of a speech is going to help him out of this mess. This is not something that those Law Classes at Harvard and all-nighters spent discussing the virtues of redistribution have prepared him for.

Not only has he never had to meet a payroll, he has never considered what that means.

Everything in his background has prepared him to debate about taking the profits from any successful business.

What if those same businesses are no longer profitable? What does the redistributionist do then?

    Look at GM.

Remember the old adage, “As GM goes, so goes the nation.”

Well today they are a speculation buy. Well that old adage may be more correct today than ever before. As today GM is standing in front of congress with hat in hand, arm outstretched, begging the people who for years raided the coffers of GM and told them not to be greedy. Give Give Give some more, they were told. Now the tables have turned.

Obama has spent his life waiting to get power, so his redistribution policies can be enacted. Only he arrived late. Now he faces not coffers overflowing, but coffers which have ran dry. Now instead of being able to go forth to foreign nations telling them how he will offer them assistance, he is faced with having to possibly go to them with his hat in hand. Begging them for relief. Instead of sitting at the G-8 summit as leader of the most powerful nation in the world, he is now faced with sitting there begging for scraps.

Nothing in his worldview ever prepared him for the world he now faces. He is now faced with a business and investor world that has heard his words and believes them. The investor has heard how he wants to take from them and they have responded by selling them holdings that could be sold. Yes there is still the 401k money, but how many have reduced their input into these funds.

Or will reduce their contributions before the 20th of January?

This is a man who has gained everything he hungered for, only to find that the world has changed. The dreams of power and graft are coming crashing down as the quickly as the Dow is dropping. Who faced with Mr. Obama’s ambitions of redistribution will invest their money in his schemes? I had rather put it under my mattress than give it to the redistributionist. What will you do? Bonds, yes they are an option, but I had rather wait to see the direction his plans take before I return my money to the government, for any potential return.

What if he decides the needs of the government deems the returns it has promised to pay out are suspended?

    Crazy, you say! Really?

What in his history would makes you think he does not see himself as a megalomaniacal autocrat? With his world view so twisted by Marxism, I submit this man sees no limits on his power. I accept that I could be wrong, but am more satisfied with my net worth not in a market left to the whims of a Marxists desires.

Ok so I am all wrong, then you tell us how low you think the Dow will go. Anyone want to play that game? Are you on the phone with your broker saying Buy, Buy, Buy? Or are you instead saying Bye bye?

There will be some intrepid people picking off selected stocks for what may be a perceived bargain. This could later be seen as a Sucker Surge. Those who simply refuse to believe the market could go farther down. Do you want to lead the charge in buying?

What make me so sure it is going lower?

I submit that as Americans, often we cannot bring ourselves to believe the American economy is not resilient enough to come back. While I am not declaring the American Economy DOA. I am saying that too many still do not understand the problems facing the economy. Meaning that for the market to rebound the big investors must know that the true losses are already built in the price they will eventually pay to reenter.

How can that be figured? One example. A house bought near the top in early 07’ for $565,000, and another being offered this weekend for $189,000. Virtually the same house, same neighborhood, less than one block apart. The lower priced home even has more amenities, poll spa etc. The owner of the first home, who I spoke with, refuses to believe they have taken $376,000 haircut. Or a loss of 66%.

Is this all, no! This price represents the retail price in one area. However the real numbers will come in what the government pays for those failing mortgages. The number paid by the government is likely to be to be in the 20% range. Imagine a million dollar home being scooped up for $200,000. It could happen. It will happen without some massive turnaround in our economy. But with the major manufacturing base of our economy already gone. The auto industry in line with the banks, hats in hand, and the airlines in front of them. Where is the rebound going to come from. You and I can go to McDonalds every day and that is worth spit in the big picture.

This turnaround is going to be long and deep. So prepare yourself. There are no magic bullets left in the government’s arsenal. And the individual elected to man the helm is ill-equipped to take the wheel.
