Finally: ACORN funding cut off…
…not by the federal government, alas, but by the U.S. Catholic Bishops.
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) has not yet been able to determine if grants made to ACORN were used for fraudulent voter registration, but has cut off all funding to the community organizing group, Bishop Robert Morin announced on Tuesday.
Shortly after addressing the full assembly of U.S. Catholic bishops, Bishop Morin spoke to reporters about what the bishops had learned concerning the use of grants from the CCHD to the group Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), which is currently under investigation in 13 states for voter fraud.
CCHD originally announced in July 2008 that it was suspending funding to ACORN because of the embezzlement of 1 million dollars by the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke. Today, however, the Bishop Morin went one step further and announced the cancelation of all funding to the group.
When Bishop Morin was asked by the press why CCHD didn’t cancel funding earlier, given the nearly decade-old accusations of voter fraud, he responded that “there are hundreds of local ACORN affiliates” and then made reference to his estimate that CCHD only had a relationship with 40 to 45 of them.
“It’s a mistake and an erroneous assumption when people equate ACORN activities with something that the Catholic Campaign for Human Development is doing,” Bishop Morin added.
In an earlier report to the full assembly of bishops, Bishop Morin announced that a forensic audit that was conducted for the bishops found that “our funds were not involved with those that had been embezzled.”
However, speaking at the press conference, he added that “the question I can’t answer, which I think is essential, is whether or not CCHD did make or has ever made a grant or activities to those particular ACORNS [involved in voter fraud].”
“We have not had reports from individual locations where we’ve been involved in a funding relationship that those local authorities were involved. If they were, then funding was cut off,” Bishop Morin said, stressing that CCHD’s ability to discover how its funds were used is hampered by the co-mingling of Catholic dollars with other grants.
Better safe than sorry.

How much federal money has the catholic church recieved for it’s various ‘do-good’ projects that was then ‘co-mingled’ and distributed in their name ?

A little sanity. A little too late. If the Catholic bishops had stood their ground and had been vocal advocates against abortion, Obama would not be President today. Shame on them on all levels.

Didn’t Obama get the catholic vote? If so, that speaks volumes about the poor teachings of its religous leaders.
For all fellow Catholics out there — On Nov. 23rd, our church is having a collection for CCHD. I’ve already thrown my envelope in the trash and I hope others do as well. I’ve spoken to my pastor about this 10 year association – which funds candidates who support abortion. I encourage other Catholics to do the same.
ACORN and colleges is how Obama won. Even Bishops get that. Now we only have to get the pundits to get it. Except they probably do but have ulterior motives for promoting another view.
If I had a nickle for every lame explanation about Obama’s ‘landslide’ I could fix my IRA.

Well …. isn’t that just special. It just happens to be several election cycles too late. You know that Gore, and then Kerry also benefited greatly from this organization’s fraudulent activities as well. They were not as successful at covertly committing voter fraud as the community organizer commie marxist thug. And it’s ongoing …. just look at the disgusting voter fraud currently being committed publicly in the state of Minnesota. I’ll speculate that many of those “lost “ votes for Franken began their life as little acorns.
Yeah, well, we’re about to be reemed by the organs of the Demoncratic Party. What a tragedy that 54% of Catholics don’t understand their own doctrine.
Why isn’t the Fed. Government doing the same? ACORN has been receiving OUR tax money to support candidates we don’t want. I believe that falls under the category of “taxation without representation”. I thought it was a prerequisite for receiving federal funds that you had to be non-partisan. There is ample proof, including videos that they were actively campaigning for The One. What are the feds waiting for? Maybe it is time for more phone calls and e-mails to our “representatives”…BEFORE Obama takes office.
The Saul Alinsky inspired radicals took over a good friend’s Catholic parish in El Paso, Tx. 20 years ago and got most of the church members to start funding / doing politically correct work–not God’s work. He and his conservative (read traditional Catholic) family left for a parish that followed God–not man.
Far too many Catholics (and Episcopalians–my church) have signed on to man’s agenda. Funding ACORN for voter fraud / shakedown tactics is only the tip of the iceberg. Many Catholics (and other Christians) voted for Obama–a vote to support ABORTION and INFANTICIDE–not choice.

It is a start. Better late than never.
I quit contributing to the Campaign for Human Development years ago. It’s only purpose is to transfer money from Catholics to various left-wing organizations.
This is another program thought up by the left leaning cardianls and bishops from the Chicago area years ago. If most Catholics knew the truth, they would not be contributing either.
Another case of no accountability. Asking for donations, but never telling you how the money is spent or by whom.
I have lost all respect for the US Catholic hierarchy. I contribute to support my local church, but nothing to the large Catholic campaigns. Most are a fraud.

All of Obama’s urban programs will be, of course, used as funnels to get the funds back to Acorn, so they can win another election, so Acorn can get some more money…ad nauseum.
What Repub Senator or Rep will step forward and investigate ACORN into oblivion? The free ride needs to stop and their 501(c)3 designation needs to be pulled by the IRS. In front of 300million people they have been proven to be a sham organization with their single party (democratic) push for voter registration even though they claim they are non-partisan. That alone should get the IRS to pull their non-profit status!!!

Anyway, whatever ACORN loses from the Catholic Church will be more than made up when under Hope-a-Dope the feds quintuple their government funding and make them immune from investigation.
Catholics for abortion advocates?
