Unhinged update: SF radio host who threatened Joe The Plumber fired
That San Francisco nutball who issued a death threat against Joe The Plumber on his KGO radio show has been fired, along with his engineer.
Naturally, he’s playing the victim card and blaming the engineer for his unhinged outburst.
Maybe he can apply for a job with the state of Ohio.

Issuing death threats on the air? Inciting violence? And now fired?
What took so long?
He will probably be assigned air time after Rush when the Fairness Doctrine is implemented.
He’ll be on Air America in no time.

Typical extreme left reaction. Demand accountabilty and responsibility from everyone else but not yourself. Make up as many excuses as possible to defend what you do and call out everyone else for what they do.
Enough double standard crap. He deserved to be fired. I’m surprised it took this long. Only the extreme left view gets the benefit of the doubt and can hang on this long after spewing hate and promoting violence on radio or TV.
Maybe him and Bernie Ward can reminisce about “what could have been”.

He said he thought the mike was off. Maybe that’s true. Both Reagan and Bush, Jr. issued “death threats” when they thought the mike was off. Reagan ordered a bombing raid on Russia — the biggest death threat known to man.
As someone who deals with this sort of situation every day, I’m just going to toss out some things without commenting.
1. There would have been no way for him to know his mic was going over the air. His mic would have been hot, and sending to the station, but it was the board operator’s job to make sure it wasn’t on the air.
2. The first thing taught to anyone who works around a microphone is always assume you are on the air.
So, yeah, I will comment. He deserved to be fired; for stupidity, if nothing else.

Reagan said he had “outlawed Russia”; something rather difficult to take as anything other than a joke. That being said, he probably should have taken Radiojoe’s advice and “always assumed the mike was on”. So should the deejay in this case (who apparently used much stronger language and had a much more geniunely threatening tone).

I feel bad to an extent for the op. He made a silly mistake, that 99.9 percent of the people who’ve done that job have made. And while there’s no excuse for making it, his real crime is that he made it at the worst possible time.
I’ll also note that although I don’t know one way or the other, the odds are that he had no connection with the show itself.
Wonder who or what put the pressure on…

IIRC, Reagan was doing a mike test before a press confrence and he said something to the effect “I’ve just informed the Soviet Union the bombing begins in five minutes” as a joke.

Remember that Joe the Plumber is just an Average American Citizen that we have far too much information on (and that information is almost all negative) thanks to a far left media (the Obama Press Corp). I have actually met people in bars (albeit on the Upper Left Side of Manhattan) who would agree with this DJ. These people are truly the “Useful Idiots” of the Obama Party. Be afraid, be very afraid. I would like to thank the engineer who probably left that microphone hot on purpose. As we were privy to witness, that DJ is a real idiot and I am sure that that engineer was the subject of too much abuse from him. Just like you shouldn’t piss off your waiter/bartender, so goes your engineer.

Savage lost his TV show when he, also believing he was off-air, went off on a gay caller who baited him. IIRC Savage told the guy he hoped he got AIDS and died.
The difference being that the KGO guy was saying this in reponse to McCain just mentioning Joe. Savage was confronted by a caller whose objective was to get him fired.
And THAT is the kind of leader we need now!
Too bad he didn’t joke about bombing France. They would have immediatly surrendered and offered trouble-free terms for the occupation. We’d still be enjoying free French wine and cheese instead of listening to their Obasms.

L.N.Smithee, Jack Swanson, Station Mgr of KGO is also Mgr of the sister station KSFO. As KSFO has evolved, he’s had to fire a number of hosts. Jack and Mickey run a successful business because
there are lines you don’t cross. Even Jack’s wife, an on air personality was gone due to economic cutbacks. They run a tight ship, that’s why they make $$.
It wasn’t becuz Karel was gay. If he had declining ratings, he was fill-in.

I used to catch some his show when he broadcast out of Los Angeles about 7 years ago. If I remember correctly, he lead in to the phil henry show which was always good for a laugh. Usually his show was about silly topics, once it was about cell phone rings, another time about interior house paints, but sometimes he would talk about world events and he was not appreciative to people who called in that did not agree with him. Usually karel, being a coward, would hang up on the caller then belittle the person when they could not defend themselves. That station, i believe clear channel, is all conservative now. There is a dj who does a morning drive show who says all the time that clear channel is all about the money, they do not care about the format, if it makes money, liberal or conservative, it is on.

Ad revenue has been falling for a while in Radio, that’s why some of our local
hosts are gone, replaced with syndicated programs. It’s cheaper. Radio Companies are altruistic. Liberal

Fairyfoose…yeah, i reread my post and it sounded kinda scattered, i’m glad you were able to decipher it and clarify the point i was trying to make. Liberals do not get that media format is still talent driven, not ideological, and it is talent that brings the audience and then the money. Ideology will get you an initial following, but if you have nothing more than angry rants as your format, you will not keep that audience. Air America is a great example. They lost their station in San Diego, owned by clear channel, all the local hosts did was claim it an evil intention of clear channel to silence them. As if clear channel had no idea what kind of format they were going to have from the beginning.
I don’t mean to be long winded, but I listened to Air America in their last week and one day the morning show host took calls and personally knew everyone that called in. So either he was only talking calls from people he knew or had a very small audience. That told me that their failure was their own.
