Who will quell the anti-Prop. 8 rage?
Pssst. Hey, “Lightworker.” Yeah, you, “Mr. Soul-fixer.” Bearer of “Hope and Change.”
Across the country, there are broken souls in need of fixing. They are the opponents of Proposition 8, California’s traditional marriage initiative, which passed 52-48 (the same margin you won by, Lightworker).
Perhaps you would care to weigh in and work your healing magic on the anti-Prop. 8 rabble-rousers who continue to wreak havoc on Mormon churches in several cities and states and blacklisting peaceful voters who supported the ballot measure.
It is getting very ugly out there and no one in the Democratic leadership has stepped up to condemn the insane rage, to borrow a phrase.
Where art thou, Lightworker?

Sad:
The artistic director at California’s largest nonprofit musical theater company resigned Wednesday amid protests over his donation to a campaign to ban gay marriage in the state.
Scott Eckern stepped down from his job at the California Musical Theater in Sacramento after some gay activists called for a theater boycott.
He said he is leaving “after prayerful consideration to protect the organization and to help the healing in the local theatergoing and creative community.”
Eckern said he “chose to act upon my belief that the traditional definition of marriage should be preserved” but had no idea his contribution would generate such controversy. He said his sister is a lesbian in a domestic partnership, which he understands to carry the same legal rights as marriage.
The boycott calls — led by artists including “Hairspray” composer Marc Shaiman — began after activists learned Eckern contributed $1,000 to the Yes on 8 campaign.

Typical right4life, change the subject instead of answering my question. Answer mine and I’ll answer yours to the best of my ability.
MJ - The official Church Doctrine says that we do not know why the blacks were not granted the Priesthood until 1978.
Keep in mind when Jesus came he claimed he was here only for the house of Israel and even called a gentile woman a dog. Please read the context in Matt 15:22-28. Jesus did heal the woman’s daughter, but only after the woman demostrated great faith.
It simply wasn’t time for the gentiles. And we don’t have an answer specifically for why. Now the Gentiles could have reacted very negatively when the Gospel was offered to them finally after Christ’s death through Peter and Paul. Both of whom were very bigoted at one point in time. And I’m sure some did take offense and possibly didn’t convert because of that. But many accepted gratefully understanding that the Lord has reasons for everything.
Joseph Smith, early in the church history, did ordain a black man to the Priesthood, but after receiving a revelation, he had to withdraw it.
Much of what modern-day Prophets say are their own opinions and not inspired Scripture. Many writings exsist from Prophets that are not in our current Scriptures. So goes it in these latter-days. God, our Father, works through humans who have faults and failings and say silly things sometimes.
There is a video called Pioneers in Africa and it tells of the spiritual journey of the blacks in Nigeria. They had copies of the Book of Mormon and a few other well-known LDS books. They incorporated by the name of the Church, set up stakes and wards and branches, all without even having had an Apostle visit them. They send letters by he hundreds pleading for someone to show up to baptize them.
At that time there was a lot of unrest in those areas. The long, beautiful story short, Apostles eventually did get there after the wars had calmed and the Church was established. It was still many years prior to the Priesthood coming to all worthy males.
The Prophets had prayed about it for many years prior, but it wasn’t until 1978 that they received the revelation to go ahead with it.
I believe with all my heart that it is the Lord who guides this Church. But not even the Prophets are told everything at once. We are meer mortals and can’t handle everything at once. So enough is revealed until we can handle more.
Were there, and are there still bigots in the Church? No doubt. Each person will have to answer for those things.
Sorry this is so long, but it is really difficult to type out comments on a message board when they are concepts that take a long time to learn and truly understand.
That’s interesting stuff there Joy. Have a nice weekend.
uh that wasn’t me..it was MJ..you don’t know huh? well I do…it was RACISM, plain and simple…and since I am part native american/part african american/part white…I would not have wanted to join your church either…as my forefathers did not.
This is a pathetic dodge.
I didn’t change the subject at all…you are unable to answer any of my points about the faith…or about your beliefs.
you cannot even answer my points about NAMBLA..
if your faith cannot stand up to reason….then what is the reason for your faith??
well thank God the Ethiopian Eunuch didn’t have to wait for your ‘new revelation’
Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega or the beginning and the end. Whether Joy finds true salvation or not I do not know. There are many false christs and cults throughtout the world. The important thing is to have repented against our sins being born again and changing our life style. The world does not like that path, even Jesus said they will hate us because they first hated Him. Following and Obeying Christ will not win any popularity contest with the world. Actually we are going against the tide and this is what causes their hatred towards Christians. Hypocrytes are dangerous because non-Christians find that this is an excuse to reject Christ until its too late of course.
Debating you guys is goes something like this;
Christian: Abraham was an amazing Prophet. God made a covenant with him and said all the Nations would be blessed through him.
You: Abraham was a polygamist!! So he couldn’t be a Prophet! AND Sarah was his half sister! Sick!
Christian: By being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac, Abraham showed his trust in God.
You: Human sacrifice?? You are not a Christian if you believe in human sacrifice!! Only SATAN would inspire someone to kill their own child! That proves he wasn’t a Prophet. And again he was a polygamist! And a BIGOT because he thought he was better than other peoples that God would choose him over them. God would not be a respecter of persons and discriminate like that!
What about the Gentiles… HMMMM? He wouldn’t leave them out of His covenant!
Christian: Moses was a Prophet. Surely we can agree on that?
You: No he wasn’t, he lifted up a serpent and tried to liken that to Christ! We all know the serpent represents SATAN. Besides, the writer of the books about Moses WAS Moses. So it was Moses saying he was a Prophet, not God! He can’t be his own witness. Even his staff turned into a serpent. Can’t you see he was representing SATAN?!?!?!
Christian: But the serpent represented Christ on the Cross and that all you have to do is look to live. And look at all the miracles that were performed through Moses.
You: Satan can perform miracles too! He appears as an angel of light! God cursed the serpent in Genesis. You need to read your Scriptures more! Moses was possessed by SATAN. Besides Moses was a polygamist! And he included laws about plural marriage in the Law of Moses that allowed it! No REAL Prophet would have done that. And man oh man, the Israelites thought they could get to heaven by WORKS.
Christian: No, the laws were a schoolmaster to show them they needed a Savior.
You: A Schoolmaster that allows polygamy? Are you serious?? A Schoolmaster that kills animals thinking it makes God happy? What kind of freaky God do you serve?
Christian: No, no, the sacrifice of unblemished animals points to the sacrifice of Christ who had no sin. That made him the only one who could die in our place.
You: You are worthless POC that you think God would want people to kill innocent animals OR a person. What next? Your own babies? It’s a slippery slope! Besides Moses said God would lead him into the Promised land, and Moses didn’t get to go into the promised land did he??? HMMMM? False Prophet!
Christian: But…
You: So, you believe in killing innocent animals, your own children and worshipping serpents. Oh, and self-mutilation with that circumcision thing. You are some seriously sick people.
Christian: David was a wonderful King. He was a man after God’s own heart.
You: David committed adultery and murder and therefore couldn’t have been a man after God’s own heart! And he was polygamous!!!!! EV-IL!!
You Christians sure can’t defend your own religion. You make me sick!
And on and on it goes……… Constantly taking things out of context. Taking Scriptures that defend your position and conveniently leaving out the ones that don’t. How about taking them as a whole?
Setting up Straw Man arguments and then acting as if you’ve won by changing the subject and pelting 10 questions at a time which are always out of context and can’t be explained unless it’s taken as a whole.
A lot of things make no sense individually, but looked at as a whole make perfect sense. Some prophesies are like Jonah’s to the Ninavites, they’ll happen unless they repent. OR, they’ll happen unless a people disobey.
The LDS have never been perfect and did indeed lose some of the blessings they were promised because they weren’t obedient.
Just because you don’t understand latter-day Scripture, doesn’t make it untrue. All it means is that you can’t understand it. And that’s because you have preconceived notions about it.
If you didn’t know I was LDS we could actually have a pretty decent debate on the Scriptures. But some people can’t even do that.
Anyway, have a good night all. Fortunately for all of us, we have the perfect judge. Jesus Christ. I trust Him to judge my heart. I trust him to judge yours. And no, LDS don’t think we get to heaven by our own works. We can’t get anywhere without the Atonement of Jesus Christ. But we also believe that the evidence of acceptance is a change of heart that brings about a change in behavior and if you love Him, you’ll keep His commandments. Faith and works cannot be separated. They go hand in hand. Which when you see the Scriptures as a whole, that is the inescapable conclusion.
There is also a difference between the WORKS of the LAW of MOSES/circumcision and righteous works like taking care of widows and orphans and showing forth charity and love to our fellow men and women.
There’s also a huge difference between Accepted Church Cannon and Opinions of men, even Prophets. But yes, we do believe in ongoing revelation, where the latter is added upon the former to clarify and raise us to a new level of knowledge.
That until knowledge is done away, we still have Prophets, Apostles, pastors, teachers, etc.
(please forgive any misspellings or grammatical errors. I don’t have my reading glasses on and can’t see the screen all that well.) lol
Joseph smith was a false prophet. a liar, a deceiver, just as you are joy.
That’s just a horrible thing to say.
That’s a horrible thing to say.
Alrighty then.
why? its true. joseph smith was a false prophet, a liar, and a deceiver.
Joy has lied about me in this thread, and preaches the same false prophecies, and lies, that joseph smith taught.
