Who will quell the anti-Prop. 8 rage?
Pssst. Hey, “Lightworker.” Yeah, you, “Mr. Soul-fixer.” Bearer of “Hope and Change.”
Across the country, there are broken souls in need of fixing. They are the opponents of Proposition 8, California’s traditional marriage initiative, which passed 52-48 (the same margin you won by, Lightworker).
Perhaps you would care to weigh in and work your healing magic on the anti-Prop. 8 rabble-rousers who continue to wreak havoc on Mormon churches in several cities and states and blacklisting peaceful voters who supported the ballot measure.
It is getting very ugly out there and no one in the Democratic leadership has stepped up to condemn the insane rage, to borrow a phrase.
Where art thou, Lightworker?

Sad:
The artistic director at California’s largest nonprofit musical theater company resigned Wednesday amid protests over his donation to a campaign to ban gay marriage in the state.
Scott Eckern stepped down from his job at the California Musical Theater in Sacramento after some gay activists called for a theater boycott.
He said he is leaving “after prayerful consideration to protect the organization and to help the healing in the local theatergoing and creative community.”
Eckern said he “chose to act upon my belief that the traditional definition of marriage should be preserved” but had no idea his contribution would generate such controversy. He said his sister is a lesbian in a domestic partnership, which he understands to carry the same legal rights as marriage.
The boycott calls — led by artists including “Hairspray” composer Marc Shaiman — began after activists learned Eckern contributed $1,000 to the Yes on 8 campaign.

Yes, Lightworker, you are the President-elect(?) of ALL the people. Snark time is over. Now the REAL work begins. Time to grow up.
I saw where some “African-Americans” were pounding gays in California…does that count?
MM’s going manic on the topics again lol (I cant keep up or research fast enough)
Rabbid – just pick a couple and go with ‘em. lol
Michelle – THIS video fits with this topic well. Check out what happens to this little ladies cross and sign by the NO on 8 mob.
PS – The ‘States’ link in your post is a 404 page.
Again,
Stating the obvious but this should have a bid neon sign reading “Democrat Hypocracy” over it.
Apparently, Joe McCarthy was evil for pointing out the enemies of this country. But modern DemoCommies sit on their hands while violence, finger pointing and hatred is doled out in the name of the collective.
John Browning was a Mormon. Maybe his memory should be raised in a positive, physical way..
To use my best Red Neck, God Fearing, Gun Clinging, South Georgia education:
That would learn ‘em some manners..
So tolerant and peace-loving these people are…
Heh, above in #5 should be ‘lady’s’ not ladies…
These spoiled brats need to be taken out behind the woodshed and have the board of education applied directly to the seat of knowledge. Trouble is, too many of them would enjoy that.
They do need to treated like the infantile brats that they are, though.
Yeah, I saw that antigayblacklist article yesterday because Scott Eckern who was director for 25 years resigned yesterday as a result of boycott threats.
Oh, and don’t worry, the front page of the Sacramento Bee is helping fan the fire by publishing this article:
For or against: See who made contributions
How many more jobs is this going to cost innocent people?
I dare….and I do mean DARE any gay in California to head over to Compton and openly protest their displeasure over the VAST majority of blacks who voted against same-sex marriage.
Yep. I didn’t think so…you unctuous duplicitous hyocrites.
Wow, cie, I didn’t think anyone knew about Browning being one of use eeevvvillll Mormons…
PIMF- hypocrites.
I thought once we voted in “change we need” we’d all just get along. Boy was I fooled.
There will be no voice of reason coming from the lunatic left. What they are doing is a hate crime but that term is reserved for when something happens to a homosexual or other minority.
They will continue to promote violent actions. Somebody will defend themself and kill one of them and then the hate crime mongers will come forward.
Scary thought- I assume some SBBP (stands for something, my politically incorrect term for those of alternative sexual orientation) will take the State of California to a federal court, and argue ‘Equal Protection’, or some sort of similar crap (makes no difference a gay man can marry any single woman who’d agree), it’ll wind up in the 9th Circus, who’ll rule it does violate the US Constitution, making court ordered gay marriage binding on much of the Western US, and if appealed before Justice Kennedy and the four Constitutionalists are replaced, they will be a 50/50 shot (depending on how Kennedy feels that day) gay marriage will be the law of the land, and if it gets there after one of those five is replaced by President Obama, it is a sure bet gay marriage will be the law of the land.
The next step, traditional Protestant and Catholic churches (I think they’ll save the Orthodox Jews for last, and they won’t try it with the Muslims) will be taken to court, and if it is 5 Obamajustices on the SCOTUS, the First Amendment will be limited.
Alternate attack on churches that follow Scripture, ‘hate speech’ laws that an Obamafied court rules isn’t a First Amendment violation. It’ll set up Canadian style human rights courts, where preachers who teach Leviticus, or Paul’s Letter to the Church at Rome, will be charged.
Instead of trying to intimidate little old ladies and stomping on the cross I want to see them take their protest to Compton since the folks there were the deciding factor.
I suggest they wear red or blue, very popular colors there.
His Lightness is composing an amicus brief asking the Ca. Supreme court to strike down the will of the people, again.
Don’t forget we will have a civil rights attorney as the chief executive next year.
Probably a life member of the Trial Lawyers Guild.
are you a collector?
(uhm… firearms, not Mormons…)
A commenter from the Sac Bee’s article about exposing donors for/against Prop 8:
Exactly.
Has anyone mentioned the theatre director who was harrassed into resigning because he supported Prop 8?
(Note the AP’s Orwellian headline – mock quotes are mine)
Theater official quits over “anti-gay” donation
So the suggestion is that the Federal government somehow step in and deal with what is decidedly a matter for the states?
I think it’s time to market a new gay oriented energy drink called “New Man” or something like that.
After water the primary ingredient in “New Man” would be saltpeter.
Kind of ironic when you think about it, California provided one of the few bright spots for conservatives in the election with its’ vote for Prop 8. Meanwhile, the blacklisting and hatred by the open minded and progressive liberals continues.
– purplepeep
I know the guy, actually. He hasn’t been harrassed at all, although I’m sure that avoiding harrassment figured into his decision.
Hey…53-46. Don’t try to gyp us out of 3 percent.
The violation of the civil rights of others is decidedly a Federal matter, Yashmak.
If it were up to me, I’d send in the local riot police – armed to the hilt – to do some serious Rainbow-asskickin’.
Hey Mike – This past month BYUTV aired a fantastic hour-long documentary about the life and gun inventions of John Moses Browning. It highlighted how those inventions helped win World Wars I&II.
Net time proponents of such measures should mimic the Obama donation website. There we can give as “Mickey Mouse” without using our own credit cards.
Perhaps the fed should step in and do something about Prop 8 then, which does litte if not deny the freedoms one group of Americans enjoys, from being enjoyed by another group of Americans.
But of course, that’s not going to happen, because it was Democrat voters who turned out in force to vote Obama in, who voted 8 over the top. Obama would be betraying his own constituency.
Ya think?
“The artistic director at California’s largest nonprofit musical theater company resigned Wednesday amid protests over his donation to a campaign to ban gay marriage in the state.”
“Scott Eckern stepped down from his job at the California Musical Theater in Sacramento after some gay activists called for a theater boycott.”
“The boycott calls — led by artists including “Hairspray” composer Marc Shaiman — began after activists learned Eckern contributed $1,000 to the Yes on 8 campaign.”
The Light Worker’s voting “present”. It’s going to be the pattern.
Spineless twit.
I seriously cannot wait until the libs have to choose between teh gays and the muslims. I betcha teh gays will lose.
ROFLAMO!
How did the ‘activists’ LEARN about…
Eckern’s contribution?
Why did he ’step down’?
Was he intimidated by the terrorists in the “gay” movement?
Has all free speech and free thought been taken away?
C-CS
Here we go again. Marriage licenses are issued by the States, using criteria determined by each State, just like driver’s licenses or business licenses. The people of the State ideally get to choose the criteria. In this case, the people of CA said a firm “NO” to redefining marriage.
Marriage is not a RIGHT.
If apples with oranges were subject to relativistic interchangability, you’d have a point. Of course, in that case the Feds would have to move in to enforce the “civil rights” of incest-couples and polygamists.
But in this case a couple hefty swings of a baton will suffice to rectify the situation.
Ah, the time honored tradition of protesting with your wallet.
They set up a website with info about Prop 8 supporters so that homosexuals could harass and attack the Prop 8 supporters.
your ‘logic’ could be applied to pedophiles too
I prefer the time honored tradition of protesting by muttering bad things under my breath and/or anonymously posting comments on political blogs.
Mookie, I agree. You don’t like the way somebody does business or what they represent, don’t support them with your $$. In this case, perhaps Mr. Eckern was a bit premature in stepping down.
Nothing will quiet these people down. These are the same types of people that hated Bush for 8 years and still want to impeach him, even as the Messiah takes over the office. Their hate has no limits. They are just as fanatical as the Islamafacists. They will never acknowledge the irony of their intolerance of people with views that differ from theirs. The only rational response if youdo not wish to convert is to fight.
Another Orwellian tidbit – the crazed thugs who set up the site containing info about Prop 8 supporters call themselves “Californians Against Hate”. Some major dark irony there.
I used to be very tolerant of gays…..Got sick and tired of their selfish antics a very long time ago.
They have done it to themselves. No way do I want my child brought up learning to accept their aberrant lifestyle. And that is exactly what it is…..My mother, rest her soul, used to say, “I wish they would go back in the closet”…here, here!!!
wouldn’t be surprised if Obama and his chicago outfit thugs start monitoring web sites.
Exactly. That’s why the list is a great thing. Why give your money to someone who thinks you’re less than equal to them?
Yup, all they gotta do is repeatedly shout the line from Monty Python:
“Help! Help! I’m being oppressed!”
the gay pigs are more equal than the straight ones.
they’re a bunch of brown-shirted fascists who want to shut down freedom of religion and speech.
yeah as they put the screws to anyone who dares oppose them…
Just remember, the majority of voters in CA voted in favor of Prop 8. Mr. Eckern’s $1,000 probably didn’t do too much to influence their decision.
peep – no irony there. It’s only hate when the straight, white, black or latino voters tell them they can’t have their way. THAT’S hate. Didn’t you get the memo?
Their best course of action to win over moderates would be civil protest, legal action, and passivie disobediance.
I know many in CA that support basic rights for Gays, but were turned off by the radical, in your face, agressive agenda that wants to homo-normalize this country, including our children.
They played thier hand wrong in the campaign. Anyone hear Gavin Newsome’s statement “It’s going to happen whether you like it or not”?
I also think that perhpaps people who have dealt with racial discrimination all thier lives are a little turned off by a group of gays that equate gay marriage to the civil rights struggle. A black man can’t walk into an employment office or Denny’s and not reveal his race. One can be discreet about one’s sexuality if they so choose.
Would you spend your money in a store owned by a Planned Parenthood donor?
BTW, I said I thought Mr. Eckern was premature in stepping down, b/c the dust hasn’t settled yet. Who knows what kind of SUPPORT his theater group will receive from others who AGREE with him??
Aren’t all campaign contributions open to scrutiny? If so, prepare for more donors to conservative causes to get harassed out of work.
Nothing about the way the vote for Prop. 8 was put on the ballot or voted upon was illegal. Why are we constantly reminded Obama won with 52% of the vote and it’s a mandate, but that the vote of the people on Prop. 8 can’t be respected?
Likewise, I note that those disappointed by the failure of several abortion measures aren’t out, threatening doctors and clinics and donors who opposed such measures.
Or are you saying that if an election doesn’t go the way the most loud, violent protesters desire, the fed should step in and change the results?
Doesn’t that kind of take away the purpose and point of living in a democracy?
No, but I sure as hell wouldn’t drive him out of business.
Dear Leader??
Dear Leader??
Beuler??
Beuler??
Anyone??
**crickets**
Regardless, Mr. Eckern has profited for years off of the talents of the gay community. If he didn’t expect any backlash. he’s a fool.
53 Percent! 53!!!!
Then he knew what he was doing.
no, and I don’t mind them not spending their money…I do mind rioting and threatening old ladies though.
There tolerant only of other looney, leftwing liberals and the only peace they love is when they, along with their MSM cronies, have cowed Conservatives into submission.
Wonder if the Mormons have a Porter Rockwell lurking in the shadows…the Mormon’s called him their Avenging Angel
we passed that stage long ago…
Who heads CAH? How did they get prop 8 contributor info?
A lawsuit is in order for those whoes info was given to a terror organization.like CAH.
Votes have consequences. The People have spoken, dimbulbs! Feel free to try re-ammending the California Constitution again in a couple years. Something tells me that, based on the tantrums you’ve thrown, that the vote will be even more for traditional marriage than this time. In the mean time, sit down, shut up, and keep your feet off the furniture!
You wouldn’t do that on your own but fifty or sixty people who agreed with you and decided to take their business elsewhere could very well do that. Boycotts like this have been going on for decades. In my opinion, the only reason that most people here are pissed off about it is because it’s a cause they don’t support. If Prop. 8 had been defeated and Mormons organized a boycott of gay owned businesses, nothing would be said.
52 or 53 – still not an overwhelming majority and still comparable to the votes received by Prop. 8.
So now only gay people are talented or in show business? Mr. Eckern did no business with straight clientel or performers?
Oh, and they weren’t compensated for their work. He did his job and they did theirs. Does that mean he must support them in everything they want? Are you freaking kidding me with this nonsense. Since when do we have to take up the causes of those we work with or for! This is AMERICA!
A lawsuit against who? It’s public information.
Mooks, how people choose to spend their money or donate it is none of my business. If that were to factor in, I wouldn’t be able to buy a can of soda pop from a vending machine without running a backgroud check on it’s owner.
The bigger issue on this aspect, tho, is in the setting up of a hitlist for these obviously violent thugs so they can harass and assault Americans with ease.
Then you’re living in a dream world, Mookie. Did you see the No on 8 commercial where Mormon missionaries ransack the house of a lesbian couple?
Classic projection. Only religious folk, or conservatives, can be bigots. All the stuff on the left just smacks of love, tolerance, and compassion.
I find her painfully young, naive and indoctrinated.
So, all you liberals are saying, if conservatives donate to a cause such as Prop 8 expect to get harassed and lose your job? That’s what democracy has come to?
Nice.
No one said he had to agree with them or take up their cause. However, to not expect any kind of backlash or criticism when the majority of people you work with are gay is foolish. They have every right to their opinions as he does to his. It’s his decision to leave. If he felt strongly enough about Prop. 8 to make a large donation, he should have stood his ground.
I agree.
I don’t think he had much choice. They were threatening boycotts against the Theatre. What he was doing was actually looking out for what’s best for the overall Theatre group — gays included.
How clueless are you?
You missed my point so let me try again. Let’s say Prop. 8 was defeated. Mormons are pissed so they decide to boycott gay owned businesses in California. Would the people on this board be outraged by the prospect of these businesses being shut down?
And I find you painfully dull, bigoted and boring.
Mooks, you missed the point altogether there – you completely misread it. Hint: it wasn’t about tactics or “organizing” at all.
Since when? Mookie, this is strictly a contemporary issue. There was a time not so long ago, believe it or not, when a person was free to speak their minds and put their money where they chose and other people RESPECTED their RIGHT to do it!
So what if they threatened a boycott? He couldn’t find any straight actors/actresses/crew to work in their place?
Big.deal.
Well, if you knew anything about Mormons, this isn’t the way they work. They have a firm belief that marriage is between a man and a woman (as does the majority of the US). However, they do not “hate” gays. As for calling everyone that is against something you don’t agree with, a bigot, you need a dictionary.
Like the Dixie Chicks?
You know, I’m just about ready for some reverse outrage here. The gays and lesbians continue to get encouragement from the media who need more visual grist for their 24/7 news cycle. I’m fed up. No, I don’t think gays and lesbians should be “married,” but I have no quarrel with “domestic partnerships,” whatever the heck that is — as long as it isn’t marriage. When two guys or two gals can procreate (between themselves, thanks, no donors), come back and we’ll talk it over again.
That’s your answer? Oh my.
Mooks, Mooks, Mooks – while you have some rather imaginative fanstasies to offer, the reality is the ongoing homosexual thuggery and violence against Americans.
I heart Michelle.
That is all.
…not in a gay way, of course.
Maybe so, but these same artists and performers draped in the protection of the First Amendment seem very eager to silence those whose opinion they dislike.
Is this what we’ve come to, where what you believe is to be punished as much, or even more so than how you behave?
Last I heard they’re still doing quite well touring the world and trashing America. You have some inside info that they’ve called it quits?
More to my point, the Dixie Chicks would be considered “contemporary.” Mooks, if it is at all possible, try and imagine a time before you were born..what, say 15 years ago?
These activists wanted Eckern fired for his belief on an issue. Exactly how is that different from demanding someone be fired for being gay? Is it any less discriminatory?
I think any acts of violence against any church/church member because of this is absolutely disgusting and whoever is responsible should be thrown in jail. I want to make that as clear as possible. But as far as boycotts go, I think it’s fair game. The information on donors for/against Prop. 8 is public. It wasn’t obtained by any nefarious means. Not patronizing a business owned by someone who actively participates in something you feel discriminates against you or something you believe in has gone on for decades.
A perfect of example of democracy being near death. When the people speak and those that do not like the decision retaliate with violence and anger pushing to have the decision overturned.
This country is just about done. It’s on life support and the damn homosexual perverts are trying to pull the plug.
Peep, the Dixie Chicks were banned from country radio. Flat out banned. There were huge protests where people burned their CDs and boycotted the sponsors of their tour.
Cheryl, why don’t you tell me what decade/timeframe would work for you and I’ll take it from there.
