Who will quell the anti-Prop. 8 rage?
Pssst. Hey, “Lightworker.” Yeah, you, “Mr. Soul-fixer.” Bearer of “Hope and Change.”
Across the country, there are broken souls in need of fixing. They are the opponents of Proposition 8, California’s traditional marriage initiative, which passed 52-48 (the same margin you won by, Lightworker).
Perhaps you would care to weigh in and work your healing magic on the anti-Prop. 8 rabble-rousers who continue to wreak havoc on Mormon churches in several cities and states and blacklisting peaceful voters who supported the ballot measure.
It is getting very ugly out there and no one in the Democratic leadership has stepped up to condemn the insane rage, to borrow a phrase.
Where art thou, Lightworker?

Sad:
The artistic director at California’s largest nonprofit musical theater company resigned Wednesday amid protests over his donation to a campaign to ban gay marriage in the state.
Scott Eckern stepped down from his job at the California Musical Theater in Sacramento after some gay activists called for a theater boycott.
He said he is leaving “after prayerful consideration to protect the organization and to help the healing in the local theatergoing and creative community.”
Eckern said he “chose to act upon my belief that the traditional definition of marriage should be preserved” but had no idea his contribution would generate such controversy. He said his sister is a lesbian in a domestic partnership, which he understands to carry the same legal rights as marriage.
The boycott calls — led by artists including “Hairspray” composer Marc Shaiman — began after activists learned Eckern contributed $1,000 to the Yes on 8 campaign.

Right4life, what qualifies you to pass judgment on another person’s soul? Are you God? Do you know what her relationship with the Lord is like? I daresay not, now you’re just picking fights. Chill, dude.
why don’t you point out where I did that hmmm??
no, but apparently she knows mine, why aren’t you complaining to her?
and if she is a mormon, then yes, she is preaching a false christ. the jesus of the mormons is NOT the Jesus of the Bible.
Well, first off, our Jesus is indeed the Jesus of the Bible.
Have you ever read, ‘Ye shall know them by their fruits?’ It is you who are passing a final judgement on SoCal and Omu. I didn’t say one thing about your final destination.
Some fruit… The Jesus of the Bible is the One who died for all. The one who carried out His Father’s plan. The One who is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
If you think the Jesus of the Bible would appreciate your quotes while you’re supposedly sharing the Gospel, which means Good News, btw… you’re sadly mistaken. It’s one thing to recognize sin, and point it out. But it should always be done in a loving way.
And the reason it’s worse that you are saying these things, is because you claim to be one of His followers.
I haven’t pronounced anything on your soul. But you certainly have with Omu and SoCal. We make judgements every day. But we cannot possibly pass a final judgement on anyone. Do you really think the way to convert them is through the method you are using? I know of no one ever who was converted through hate-filled words.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He is the one who died for us and took our sins upon Him, both the punishment and the guilt. He raised from the dead and sits at the right hand of the Father. He makes intercession for us. He is the great Redeemer, The Prince of Peace and many more glorious things.
He, and only He can see into a person’s heart. Which is why I only point out the fruit of your mouth. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Your own words show what’s in your heart.
All I am trying to do is help you see that you will convert no one with those ugly words. In fact you send them further away. How will you account for that?
It is my hope you’ll take some time to ponder what being a child of God really means, and how you should act as a child of God.
WE all fall short, but we must keep trying.
you are a liar. you said I was preaching a ‘false christ’ therefore I am damned. I didn’t say one thing about their ‘final judgment’ you cannot point to it. you are a liar…what does that say about your fruits hmmmmmm???
get a clue ‘honey’ I wasn’t ’sharing the gospel’ with these clowns…there is no reason to cast pearls before swine.
again, you are a liar. please post those judgements that I have rendered. go ahead it should be interesting.
sigh…again I was not trying to ‘convert’ them, because I know better than to try to ‘convert’ anyone on a messageboard
it truly is casting pearls before swine.
the mormons preach a FALSE CHRIST. the JESUS of the Bible is God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth….you will never be a ‘god’ for as Isaiah 43:10 says ‘before Me there were no gods formed and there will be none after’
your jesus is not the Eternal God of the universe. the Jesus of the Bible IS.
I hope you will turn from a false piety, and form of godliness…and renouncce the false christ of mormonism, and embrace the true Jesus of the Bible.
oh and yes socal and OMU ARE trash. truth is truth.
those things I said are true…and you cannot even address the truth of what I said about NAMBLA and the slippery slope that is the gay agenda
Right4life, she wasn’t judging the condition of your soul or of your theology, she was making remarks on the things you say and the tone you use. It is quite difficult to take you seriously as a Christian when you’re so rude all the time. I used to be the same way, man, and it took a long time to realize just how off-putting that was.
Don’t shove the NAMBLA thing in my face. You’re talking about an organization that believes that romantic, sexual relationships with young boys is perfectly normal, something the gay community does not foster. NAMBLA is shunned even by the gays and lesbians who hate me for my conservative views. Some of your arguments are quite valid; this one, however, is not. Much like SoCal and Omu, you’re giving the impression of merely trying to insult people.
There were no contrAdictions. Your reading comprehension abilities suck. I’m starting to see why.
Actually, I just have opinions, and never called anyone a hate-filled bigot, weak-minded yes. You people have a history of suppressing the freedoms of others based on a belief in your book. Of course your book of fairy tales justifies slavery and treating women as inferior to men. You don’t understand your reason for living, so your little book, which is filled with negativity and oppression provides a crutch. Society has dropped many of the ugly aspects in the bible over the years. A few still remain. You’re not hateful as far as I know. You’re weak. Props to the christians past and present, who have tried to use the bible as a source of good, and fought against those who use it to divide and condemn. These people have at least tried to use the good lettuce.
Wrong.
Wrong. On this particular issue, I think the Court will eventually rule in favor of allowing gay marriage with an Equal Protection analysis similar to Loving. Gays aren’t a protected class, yet.
Wrong. You folks can lawfully oppose whatever the hell you want. It’s part of what drives you. People like me have the right to call you weak-minded, and full of hypocrisy. We also have the right to boycott, protest, lobby, litigate, and vote. Gays don’t have tthe right to break the law without dealing with the ramifications legal, or psychological perception wise.
Wrong. An individual state has no right to set a law that violates the United States constitution. Loving, and thousands of other decisions say the same thing. SCOTUS will eventually rule in favor of gays on this issue as society evolves. If not strict scrutiny, perhaps they’ll use intermediate scrutiny with similar results in favor of the oppressed party.
Ahh. At least now you’re thinking. Yes there will be an effect. There will be a positive effect. Thank goodness for the courts.
I’ve helped you out here, but you’re not working with a full deck. If you respond, I’m sure it will be filled with your typical strawman rants, false accusations and phony outrage. My points here are very clear. You’ll miss it, either because you’re slow, dishonest, or both.
So Peter’s answer to Jesus is wrong? The one to which Jesus replied, “blessed art thou Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, by my Father which is in heaven.”
Interesting.
Please tell me which of the above is incorrect. And also please note where I said He isn’t what you said He is.
Also, please point to the quote of mine where I said you were damned.
Jesus said to love our enemies, bless them who curse you, and do good to them that hate you. That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.
We can stand for truth without being mean, hateful and ugly toward those who we disagree.
she accused me of preaching a false christ…which is tantamount to saying I’m damned. don’t know how else to put it.
sorry I’m just not holy enough for you!!
actually I was making a point about the slippery slope, which you or joy cannot seem to address. if homosexuality is just a ‘lifestyle choice’ then why is pedophilia not? anything that can be said to justify the normalacy of homosexuality can be said for pedophilia. who decides what the age of consent is? and we both know the pedophilia movement is where the homosexual movement was 40 years ago.
yeah sometimes I do. I never claimed to be holier than thou…
MJ – You may be interested to know that the Latter-day Saints have always been against slavery. Our first Prophet of this dispensation prophesied about the civil war on December 25, 1832. He even gave specifics about it starting with rebellion in North Carolina.
One of the main reasons for our expulsion from Missouri was our stance against slavery.
Also of note, Utah granted women the right to vote in 1869 when still a territory. Although it was revoked by Congress in 1887. It was restored in 1895 when the Utah constitution was written for the new State. It passed with no dissent the first time in 1869 and didn’t take woman’s suffrage to get it.
Just thought you might find these facts interesting.
right4life – shouldn’t assume things. Some people preach a false Christ out of ignorance. Some know better and do it anyway.
So your excuse is that you don’t claim to be holier than thou. Whatever you have to tell yourself to excuse your abominable behavior.
Ye shall know them by their fruit…
Also right4life, Why would anyone debate political issues with you when all you do is hurl invective and get nasty?
Making the NAMBLA comments in the way you did, was not arguing a slippery slope, it was vicious and ugly.
let see…do you believe this:
how about this:
do you believe Jesus was created by the Father?
and do you believe the following:
so you believe you need works in addition to what Jesus did. clearly the mormons do not believe in the Jesus of the Bible.
you said I was preachng a false christ…therefore I am damned..no??
and you claimed that I damned these people..
but you cannot show me where I did this.
do you think you can become a god?
Clearly mormonism is NOT christian, and preach a different gospel, and another savior…not the Jesus, who is God Almighty…the ETERNAL uncreated God of the universe.
so joy, as I have established above, why do you preach a false christ?
so mentioning NAMBLA is vicious and ugly..but NAMBLA themselves are not, right? the point I made was valid..what is the limit of the gay agenda? and how far will it go?
NAMBLA EXISTS…sorry deal with it. please name a heterosexual equivalent…you cannot. and please explain to me why homosexuality IS a valid alternative lifestyle, and pedophilia IS NOT.
and the devil comes as an angel of light…
Yes. I have Mormon friends, and that is impressive. However, this:
has always bothered me. I know you can find an equivlalent with other leaders, but it’s still disappointing to say the least. Moreover, blacks couldn’t achieve the highest priesthood in the Mormon church until as late as frickin 1978. I believe the change was made purely because of shame and political pressure.
I know there are Black Mormons, including the great Gladys Knight, but your book still provides a basis for racial discrimination. Of course, it’s not acceptable to push those elements like B. Young used to, because society has evolved. Thank Gawd.
We have no love for each other, but I see you fighting the good fight on these boards, and taking on both sides of the political line. I respect that.
Oh well.
Typical right4life, change the subject instead of answering my question. Answer mine and I’ll answer yours to the best of my ability.
MJ – The official Church Doctrine says that we do not know why the blacks were not granted the Priesthood until 1978.
Keep in mind when Jesus came he claimed he was here only for the house of Israel and even called a gentile woman a dog. Please read the context in Matt 15:22-28. Jesus did heal the woman’s daughter, but only after the woman demostrated great faith.
It simply wasn’t time for the gentiles. And we don’t have an answer specifically for why. Now the Gentiles could have reacted very negatively when the Gospel was offered to them finally after Christ’s death through Peter and Paul. Both of whom were very bigoted at one point in time. And I’m sure some did take offense and possibly didn’t convert because of that. But many accepted gratefully understanding that the Lord has reasons for everything.
Joseph Smith, early in the church history, did ordain a black man to the Priesthood, but after receiving a revelation, he had to withdraw it.
Much of what modern-day Prophets say are their own opinions and not inspired Scripture. Many writings exsist from Prophets that are not in our current Scriptures. So goes it in these latter-days. God, our Father, works through humans who have faults and failings and say silly things sometimes.
There is a video called Pioneers in Africa and it tells of the spiritual journey of the blacks in Nigeria. They had copies of the Book of Mormon and a few other well-known LDS books. They incorporated by the name of the Church, set up stakes and wards and branches, all without even having had an Apostle visit them. They send letters by he hundreds pleading for someone to show up to baptize them.
At that time there was a lot of unrest in those areas. The long, beautiful story short, Apostles eventually did get there after the wars had calmed and the Church was established. It was still many years prior to the Priesthood coming to all worthy males.
The Prophets had prayed about it for many years prior, but it wasn’t until 1978 that they received the revelation to go ahead with it.
I believe with all my heart that it is the Lord who guides this Church. But not even the Prophets are told everything at once. We are meer mortals and can’t handle everything at once. So enough is revealed until we can handle more.
Were there, and are there still bigots in the Church? No doubt. Each person will have to answer for those things.
Sorry this is so long, but it is really difficult to type out comments on a message board when they are concepts that take a long time to learn and truly understand.
That’s interesting stuff there Joy. Have a nice weekend.
uh that wasn’t me..it was MJ..you don’t know huh? well I do…it was RACISM, plain and simple…and since I am part native american/part african american/part white…I would not have wanted to join your church either…as my forefathers did not.
This is a pathetic dodge.
I didn’t change the subject at all…you are unable to answer any of my points about the faith…or about your beliefs.
you cannot even answer my points about NAMBLA..
if your faith cannot stand up to reason….then what is the reason for your faith??
well thank God the Ethiopian Eunuch didn’t have to wait for your ‘new revelation’
Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega or the beginning and the end. Whether Joy finds true salvation or not I do not know. There are many false christs and cults throughtout the world. The important thing is to have repented against our sins being born again and changing our life style. The world does not like that path, even Jesus said they will hate us because they first hated Him. Following and Obeying Christ will not win any popularity contest with the world. Actually we are going against the tide and this is what causes their hatred towards Christians. Hypocrytes are dangerous because non-Christians find that this is an excuse to reject Christ until its too late of course.
Debating you guys is goes something like this;
Christian: Abraham was an amazing Prophet. God made a covenant with him and said all the Nations would be blessed through him.
You: Abraham was a polygamist!! So he couldn’t be a Prophet! AND Sarah was his half sister! Sick!
Christian: By being willing to sacrifice his son Isaac, Abraham showed his trust in God.
You: Human sacrifice?? You are not a Christian if you believe in human sacrifice!! Only SATAN would inspire someone to kill their own child! That proves he wasn’t a Prophet. And again he was a polygamist! And a BIGOT because he thought he was better than other peoples that God would choose him over them. God would not be a respecter of persons and discriminate like that!
What about the Gentiles… HMMMM? He wouldn’t leave them out of His covenant!
Christian: Moses was a Prophet. Surely we can agree on that?
You: No he wasn’t, he lifted up a serpent and tried to liken that to Christ! We all know the serpent represents SATAN. Besides, the writer of the books about Moses WAS Moses. So it was Moses saying he was a Prophet, not God! He can’t be his own witness. Even his staff turned into a serpent. Can’t you see he was representing SATAN?!?!?!
Christian: But the serpent represented Christ on the Cross and that all you have to do is look to live. And look at all the miracles that were performed through Moses.
You: Satan can perform miracles too! He appears as an angel of light! God cursed the serpent in Genesis. You need to read your Scriptures more! Moses was possessed by SATAN. Besides Moses was a polygamist! And he included laws about plural marriage in the Law of Moses that allowed it! No REAL Prophet would have done that. And man oh man, the Israelites thought they could get to heaven by WORKS.
Christian: No, the laws were a schoolmaster to show them they needed a Savior.
You: A Schoolmaster that allows polygamy? Are you serious?? A Schoolmaster that kills animals thinking it makes God happy? What kind of freaky God do you serve?
Christian: No, no, the sacrifice of unblemished animals points to the sacrifice of Christ who had no sin. That made him the only one who could die in our place.
You: You are worthless POC that you think God would want people to kill innocent animals OR a person. What next? Your own babies? It’s a slippery slope! Besides Moses said God would lead him into the Promised land, and Moses didn’t get to go into the promised land did he??? HMMMM? False Prophet!
Christian: But…
You: So, you believe in killing innocent animals, your own children and worshipping serpents. Oh, and self-mutilation with that circumcision thing. You are some seriously sick people.
Christian: David was a wonderful King. He was a man after God’s own heart.
You: David committed adultery and murder and therefore couldn’t have been a man after God’s own heart! And he was polygamous!!!!! EV-IL!!
You Christians sure can’t defend your own religion. You make me sick!
And on and on it goes……… Constantly taking things out of context. Taking Scriptures that defend your position and conveniently leaving out the ones that don’t. How about taking them as a whole?
Setting up Straw Man arguments and then acting as if you’ve won by changing the subject and pelting 10 questions at a time which are always out of context and can’t be explained unless it’s taken as a whole.
A lot of things make no sense individually, but looked at as a whole make perfect sense. Some prophesies are like Jonah’s to the Ninavites, they’ll happen unless they repent. OR, they’ll happen unless a people disobey.
The LDS have never been perfect and did indeed lose some of the blessings they were promised because they weren’t obedient.
Just because you don’t understand latter-day Scripture, doesn’t make it untrue. All it means is that you can’t understand it. And that’s because you have preconceived notions about it.
If you didn’t know I was LDS we could actually have a pretty decent debate on the Scriptures. But some people can’t even do that.
Anyway, have a good night all. Fortunately for all of us, we have the perfect judge. Jesus Christ. I trust Him to judge my heart. I trust him to judge yours. And no, LDS don’t think we get to heaven by our own works. We can’t get anywhere without the Atonement of Jesus Christ. But we also believe that the evidence of acceptance is a change of heart that brings about a change in behavior and if you love Him, you’ll keep His commandments. Faith and works cannot be separated. They go hand in hand. Which when you see the Scriptures as a whole, that is the inescapable conclusion.
There is also a difference between the WORKS of the LAW of MOSES/circumcision and righteous works like taking care of widows and orphans and showing forth charity and love to our fellow men and women.
There’s also a huge difference between Accepted Church Cannon and Opinions of men, even Prophets. But yes, we do believe in ongoing revelation, where the latter is added upon the former to clarify and raise us to a new level of knowledge.
That until knowledge is done away, we still have Prophets, Apostles, pastors, teachers, etc.
(please forgive any misspellings or grammatical errors. I don’t have my reading glasses on and can’t see the screen all that well.) lol
Joseph smith was a false prophet. a liar, a deceiver, just as you are joy.
That’s just a horrible thing to say.
That’s a horrible thing to say.
Alrighty then.
why? its true. joseph smith was a false prophet, a liar, and a deceiver.
Joy has lied about me in this thread, and preaches the same false prophecies, and lies, that joseph smith taught.
Multiple posts were an accident.
