According to what I remember from his movies, he was more than tolerant of minorities. He respected them (those whose characters deserved respect) and treated them just as people. I have always thought those who criticize him have not really watched his films with an open mind.
Let me try that again—
My sentiments precisely. Just talked about that to some friends this morning. Having a temper tantrum in the form of sabotage, subterfuge, and just plain meanness is not an option.
A few thoughts;
Have you ever noticed that when there is a “big pot ‘o money” with little or no oversight, there is rampant fraud involved? The reason for lack of oversight is usually because the liberals make the claim that “real people are hurting, and we have to get this done before it’s too late!” The taxpayer gets burned, but our elected officials who control the purse-strings never seem to learn this lesson. That or they just don’t care, as long as their constituency gets paid.
Don’t you just love how all the caring Democrats keep telling the Republican’s what they have to do to win? That’s like having the fox tell the farmer how to protect his hens from the foxes!
The Democrats always seem to have all the answers to all society’s ills. You know, the ills that never seem to get remedied? Republicans have been in charge of congress only twice in the last forty years. And what happened when Gingrich was Speaker? Gee, that would be a Welfare Reform Bill, and a balanced budget…things that the Democrats not only fought tooth and nail to defeat, but now take credit for.
The highest number of combat casualties have always come under a Democrat Party controlled government.
The liberals never see anything as black and white. It always has to be shaded by political dogma.
As long as liberals are allowed to define who we are as a nation, no “real” problems will ever get solved, nor will the country ever be solvent. The reason is simple…it is not in their best interest.

John Wayne was in some of the greatest films in world cinema, most of them directed by John Ford (The Searchers, Stagecoach, etc.). It is a CRIME to push this type of propaganda and make it part of the “collective consensus” – because younger people who don’t know better will just say, “Oh, okay, well then I won’t see any of HIS films…”
It’s like sniffing to a bunch of high school students that Mozart or Beethoven were just “dead white men…” or Shakespeare isn’t worth reading because he’s racist or whatever.
Granted, Wayne was not a good director (Alamo, Green Berets were pretty bad), but by God he was one of the greatest actors ever!

Even in my more militant years I would never say and/or write the things I see coming from MJ. To each his own I guess. However, I often ponder what’s the point of coming here “offering” unsolicited advice about who or what Republicans ought to do to win elections…knowing full well that you don’t want Republicans to win. I hate the Patriots and Broncos, but I can discuss what’s good or bad about their teams, or what direction they should go in the draft. I have opinions about what the Republican party could, or should do to win the White House back. I most certainly hope that the RNC wouldn’t agree with ideas like mine if I think they would be successful.

Hispanic is a language group-to speak Spanish. Quite a few, most, Hispanics in this country and on this continent are matizo -Definición de matizó en el diccionario en línea. Significado de matizó. You are quite right. Hispanic is a broad term, and I used it in a broad sense. I was basically riffing about folks of Spanish descent. I have some Cuban and Mexican people I know that I like to rile up by rejecting the notion that they are indeed White. That’s all.

I have spent the time since the election trying to keep Son’s blood

Of course, the left thinks that we don’t deserve to breathe or vote but then there are some days that I feel the same about them. I

“feel good” is a poor reason to pull the lever for that person and
perhaps you should just sit out the elections.
I said on another thread that I don’t see BO doing a whole lot during
his Presidency because all he knows is How To Run For Office. He has never stopped running for the next office long enough to figure
out how to be “in the office.” So, I would bet that immediately after
the inauguration, if not sooner, he will start running for his second
term instead of just being the president. Any takers?

For a man born in 1907 his view did not start out as open as someone who born in say-1980- but I saw no overt racism in him. Follow his movie and business career and the man certainly grew over the years-something no liberal is capable of doing. One of the greatest thrills of my Chicano-Latino-Hispanic-Mexican boyhood was seeing John Wayne, Richard Boone and Rex Allen at Rawhide Days in Mesa, Arizona in 55-56.

Well, here I go again. My other post was apparently lost.
It’s birthday month around here so my family went to celebrate my nephew’s birthday this afternoon. I had a wonderful birthday dinner on Friday night thanks to my wonderful husband and sweet kids. We are headed to Disneyworld this Friday so the rest of the evening will be filled with laundry and our attempts to begin packing.
On another topic, has anyone else read about the lawsuit that Alan Keyes has filed against the CA Secretary of State and the state electors in order to block the certification of the election and keep the CA electors for voting for Obama? He wants the SOS to certify that Obama is a natural-born citizen before the election is certified. He apparently has standing since he was a Presidential candidate. I don’t expect it to really go anywhere, but it may be interesting to watch.
OMG. I can’t believe how ugly many of the comments are today. MJ, what is the problem, and why the hideous vitriol? Did you not go to church this weekend and set your mind on the things of God, and not on the things of this earth?

Good point, Trollman. Interesting is that, from all the clips I’ve seen of the Reverend Wright’s sermons, he was about placing their minds on the things of this earth (so-called “white greed” and other injustices), and not once did we see him asking his congregants to worship God and set their minds on Him.
That does explain the anger, if MJ attends that church or another black liberation theology gathering.

The entire rumor of General Jimmy Stewart’s came from one argument over a casting decision where he had accidentally assumed a black man was hired to play a part that was explicitly written for a white character. When he found his error he appologized.
The only actual accusation of racism that’s been directed at Jimmy Stewart, one of the most brave, honorable men this nation has ever produced, was Director John Ford who accused Stewart of racism for remarks he made to Woody Strode on the set of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Strode later said he didn’t believe Stewart was really racist. To be accused of racism by a bleeding heart liberal movie director? To me that would be a badge of honor.
That’s the freaking problem with liberals, they’re so swallowed up with “white guilt” that it’s impossible to discuss ANYTHING that involves race. Unless the white person in the conversation is indulging in self flagellation over imaginary crimes against humanity he or she is a racist.
My personal belief is that liberals are incapable of wrapping their minds around the concept that a person can hate a CULTURE or NATIONALITY or POLITICAL AFFILIATION without even considering the skin color of that culture, nationality, or political alignment.
John Wayne has been accused of racism because he said some very uncomplimentary things about Vietnam. Did any liberals consider that John Wayne cannot abhor communism? Is he racist because he hates the most evil thing on earth today: Communism? Is he racist because he hates people who kill American soldiers?
But they accused him of racism because he badmouthed North Vietnamese. And according to liberals that means he hates ALL Asians.
DID John Wayne hate all Asians?
No, of course he’s not. But that’s not important to liberals. Liberals appear to be completely incapable of being able to delve past skin color and find out what that person REALLY said.
Then again liberals like nothing more than communism (because it’s their religion) and people who kill American soldiers (because they don’t have the guts to try it themselves, except for William Ayers)so someone who badmouths communism needs to be destroyed and a liberals favorite insult is “racist”.

How come someone who supposedly hated American Indians so much still hold them in such great esteem in his professional work? John Wayne saw many of the Indians as honorable advisaries such as the Apache and the Navaho: the greatest cavalry soldiers this continent had ever seen.
Also like too many liberals, Mistressjustice tries to hold people who were brought up OVER A CENTURY AGO Edwardian! to modern 21st Century mores and values they themselves couldn’t possibly live up to. I really can’t believe people could be so dense as to even try that, but they do. Watch Ken Burns “Civil War” series, you’ll see a liberal historian degrading Abraham Lincoln as a racist because with his Victorian upbringing and view point he wasn’t able to view racial relations the same way a post civil right movement American would.

Returning now to Open Thread discussion, did anyone besides me see, “The Secret Life of Bees” yet? What a terrific movie. Queen Latifah is so heartwarming in it, and that Dakota Fanning is such a great actress. A real standout in it is Sophie Okonobe (sp?). The character she plays touched my heart. Take tissue, Ladies, but it’s absolutely worth it.

Well, we survived a weekend of snowboarding in Colorado. Relatively few injuries were sustained (none by me so far) that a hot tub didnt cure. We need one good blizzard this week to cover all the remaining rocks and trees that are killing my new board.
Im spending as many days (of a possible 8 ) over Thankgiving week all to my self. If I cant trust you to be left alone for one day…. how am I going to leave you all unsupervised for most of a week?
