Anti-Prop. 8 Mob Watch: Christians in San Francisco’s Castro district

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 17, 2008 04:23 PM

Watch gay activists hound Christians in San Francisco’s Castro district:

Even some left-wing blogs are starting to realize this is bad p.r. for their side.

From the YouTube user’s description of the confrontation, which got physical:

After just singing and worshiping God for a while, Roger decided that we should all hold hands in a circle and continue singing. So we did.

Someone (Actually a person who came up and hugged and kissed some of us who he knew from the past) convinced some people that we were there to protest against the no on 8 campaign.

Then some guy who was dressed up like one of the sisters (The sisters of perpetual indulgence is a group of men who dress up like nuns and call themselves the spiritual authority of the Castro.) took a curtain-type thing (Which I think they use to curse people) and wrapped it around us.

Then a crowd started gathering. We began to sing “Amazing Grace”, and basically sang that song the whole night. (At some points we also sang “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus” and “Oh the Blood of Jesus”.) At first, they just shouted at us, using crude, rude, and foul language and calling us names like “haters” and “bigots”. Since it was a long night, I can’t even begin to remember all of the things that were shouted and/or chanted at us. Then, they started throwing hot coffee, soda and alcohol on us and spitting (and maybe even peeing) on us. Then, a group of guys surrounded us with whistles, and blasted them inches away from our ears continually. Then, they started getting violent and started shoving us. At one point a man tried to steal one of our Bibles. Chrisdene noticed, so she walked up to him and said “Hey, that’s not yours, can you please give it back?”. He responded by hitting her on the head with the Bible, shoving her to the ground, and kicking her. I called the cops, and when they got there, they pulled her out of the circle and asked her if she wanted to press charges. She said “No, tell him I forgive him.”

Afterwards, she didn’t rejoin us in the circle, but she made friends with one of the people in the crowd, and really connected heart to heart. Roger got death threats. As the leader of our group, people looked him in the eyes and said “I am going to kill you.”, and they were serious. A cop heard one of them, and confronted him. (This part is kinda graphic, so you should skip the paragraph if you don’t want to be offended.) It wasn’t long before the violence turned to perversion. They were touching and grabbing me, and trying to shove things in my butt, and even trying to take off my pants – basically trying to molest me. I used one hand to hold my pants up, while I used the other arm to hold one of the girls. The guys huddled around all the girls, and protected them.

And here’s KTVU coverage of the incident.

Soul-fixer, where art thou?

this is foolish. Jesus does NOT, and did not, forgive people unless they asked for it.

We had to stay in groups of 3 or more for protection but it was never quite as bad as the Castro district in SF.

That sounds like attempted rape, or, at the very least, molestation to me. Criminal charges should have been filed. I am a Christian, but if someone tried to rape me, I would bloody well fight to defend myself and see that the attempted rapist faced charges for what they had done to me.

Jesus did not ask us to allow ourselves to be sexually violated by anyone. Forgiveness is for those who will admit they have done wrong. Mercy is for those who know they need it.

Indeed. There is a real, legitimate right to self-defense:

The legitimate defense of persons and societies is not an exception to the prohibition against the murder of the innocent that constitutes intentional killing. “The act of self-defense can have a double effect: the preservation of one’s own life; and the killing of the aggressor. . . . The one is intended, the other is not.”65

    2264
Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality. Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one’s own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow…

Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility.

She can forgive, she should forgive, but if we ran our society on allowing criminals to go free if the victim/victim’s family forgave them, it’d be chaos. It is not unChristian to press charges against an attacker, and does not negate forgiveness if you do so, either.

The girl did right by her soul forgiving him, but her attacker needs to repent, do penance (read: fine/jail time/probation), and SIN NO MORE.

It’s a little more complicated than that, actually.

God created us, and in His creation, He gave us design and dignity. In my tradition, that design delineates roles as men and women (both deserving of equal respect, but both with different strenghts/weaknesses). That design also means that I, as a woman, am meant to be fertile and bear children, my husband is to protect me and is the head of the house like Christ is the head of the church, etc.

The dignity imparted to us teaches us that sexuality and sexual behavior is not – contrary to what the left will have you believe – bad, unenjoyable, or repressed. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. The Christian tradition teaches sexuality/sex is so powerful, so important, that we should not treat it with disrespect, disregard, or lightly. That it is reserved to share with your ultimate love: your life-long husband/wife, in a faithful, loving, and life-giving marriage. According to our design.

And Christ expects us to live up to that standard, as He lived up to that standard, seek forgiveness when we fail, and try not to sin anymore. He also expects us to point our brother and sisters on the right path when they go astray; it is our obligation and duty…

Absolutely. No one who recognized this would have done what these “protestors” did to this group of Christians.

Agreed on all points. It amazes me that more people can’t see the beauty of what real Christianity teaches about the body/sexuality. It’s not about repression; it’s about full joy and expression. When He said He wanted our joy to be complete, he meant in EVERY aspect of our lives. As for the rest of that paragraph, spot-on.

I thought AIDS was God’s judgment condeming homosexuals. Only gays get AIDS right? (Oh yeah, so do drug addicts, heterosexuals, etc.) But they can trace that back to some bisexual gay guy who had sex with an inncoent unknowing female, correct?

No wait, that’s not right. AIDS was invented by the Federeal Govt to kill blacks.

No wait, AIDS was created when gay men had sex with monkeys.

Well, as long as gays are dying, that’s what’s important.

That’s right. They were not asking for the “drama”; it came to them. I might add; Christianity teaches that there is no “complexity” to the issue of homosexuality; it goes against God’s intentions and the very reason he created us as male and female. Period.

We do not hate homosexual people; we do not stop believing what we believe because it offends them. I personally pray for their conversion.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I feel about the situation. If I knew – beyond the shadow of a doubt – that the rights of churches, groups, organizations and individuals to worship freely would not be limited by civil unions or “gay marriage”, I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

But given this behavior, and behavior in the past (see: Catholic Charities in MA, Christian photog in NM, Methodist church in NJ), there’s no reason for a rational person to believe that gay couples in California won’t intentionally find the most conservative churches out there, demand they be married in said churches, and use the 9th Circuit to make the churches comply or lose tax-exempt status.

Or look at the stuff in Canada that’s nothing if not Orwellian, when it comes to the Human Rights Commissions and their anti-Christian bigotry.

Then, of course, there’s the PC nonsense in CA schools (where the words “mom” and “dad” are verboten, and traditional family structures are ignored for the sake of alternative lifestyles), and the rabid hatred of school choice/home schooling…and, yeah, those of us who value our First Amendment rights feel as if our culture – which has been the norm for centuries and, while not perfect, sure made America (and, in general, Western Civilization) a pretty great nation to live in – is being invaded by folks who want *us* to tolerate them, but who outright refuse to tolerate *us* unless we kowtow to their demands.

Good gracious, there you go again, playing the gay rights = Civil Rights card.

I’ll repeat again: they’re not the same thing. Race is an inherent trait, homosexual behavior is that – a behavior.

A man/woman in an interracial marriage are the same as a same-race couple in that society recognizes that’s the best way to beget/raise children.
