Terrific: Barack Obama, John McCain, and Lindsay Grahamnesty are united in their pledge to “fix up the country.”
President-elect Barack Obama and vanquished rival John McCain met for the first time since the November 4 election on Monday, pledging to work together to face the financial crisis and other national challenges.
“We’re going to have a good conversation about how we can do some work together to fix up the country,” Obama said, adding that he wanted to offer his thanks to McCain for his “outstanding service” to the country.
McCain, when asked generally whether he was hoping to help the Democratic president-elect, replied: “Obviously.”
…McCain, who lost his entourage of Secret Service officers and multiple staff when he lost the election, was accompanied in his meeting by his close friend and colleague, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
Obama was joined by his chief of staff, Rep. Rahm Emanuel of Illinois.

White House may let Obama decide part of bailout
The Bush administration has told top lawmakers it does not plan to use at least half of the $700 billion bailout fund that Congress approved this fall to aid the financial industry, congressional officials said Monday.
These officials said Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson passed the word over the weekend that he intends to leave $350 billion untouched when the administration leaves office on Jan. 20. That would mean the incoming Obama administration would decide whether and how the funds should be spent.
The disclosure comes at a time when Democrats are working to pass emergency legislation to spend $25 billion of the bailout money to provide loans to the battered auto industry.

ObamShamnesty only wants to use them in getting Republican help to pass amnesty for illegals. Once done, success or failure, he’ll throw them under the bus as he’s done to all other associates who have worked with him in the past.
Also, Bush would be wise to veto any additional bailouts coming his way. The Dems only want to point fingers at the Bush administration when they fail but take all the credit if successful. The Dems never do anything in the spirit of bipartisanship unless it’s to their advantage.
I’d let Obama and the Dems start a “legacy” of their own.

Paulson would have had to go back to congress to get that second installment. There’s no way in hell that congress would have let him have it. “Giving” it to Obama makes it Obama’s problem.
Look for the Democrats to assert car companies need action sooner than mid-January. They’ll take over the bailout program with a big show of oversight from the O-man’s staff and would-be appointees. Then they’ll jack it up big enough to buy every dead mortgage in Washington (state), Florida, Nevada and, surprise, California. Oops, Arizona, we’re out of money.
