Chuck Hagel auditions for Obama appointment

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 18, 2008 04:59 PM

Question: How does a RINO secure a position in the Obama administration?

Answer: Bash Rush Limbaugh.

As his Senate career nears its end, Republican Chuck Hagel isn’t holding back when it comes to criticizing members of his own party — including conservative talk radio hosts.

“We are educated by the great entertainers like Rush Limbaugh,” Hagel said Tuesday during a speech in Washington, according to the Huffington Post.

“You know, I wish Rush Limbaugh and others like that would run for office,” a sarcastic Hagel continued. “They have so much to contribute and so much leadership and they have an answer for everything. And they would be elected overwhelmingly. [The truth is] they try to rip everyone down and make fools of everybody but they don’t have any answers.”

Hagel has increasingly become critical of his party in the aftermath of the Iraq War and notably held back endorsing his longtime friend John McCain during the presidential campaign. He’s reportedly under consideration for a cabinet post in the Obama administration.

So, when all else fails, and to gain some cache with the new administration, let’s bash the biggest advocate for conservativism and Reagan principles, two things that Hagel has never fought for.

What, exactly, has this RINO ever accomplished in his much-vaunted Senator career? What did he do to make the country better except to skewer conservatives and stab fellow Republicans in the back? Do his fellow Nebraskans even know what he stands for or accomplished? I’m sure Hagel is as much in the dark about where he stands as Colin Powel.

One tidbit from this underwelming politician makes sense. I encourage all retired military members to run for local, state, and national political seats all across the country. Even regular Joe Schmoes. Regular Americans aren’t being represented fairly by their own… only the minions (both sides) of the special interests.

I’m not sure what motivated Chaps to make the Hitler comment but if he’s trying to do the comparison game, he’s a little off.

I don’t know if Chaps was angling for irony or sarcasm (though I didn’t see any tags) but Hitler and Limbaugh are worlds apart. Yet, when politicians exploit times of economic turmoil/weakness and civic apathy, people choose to ignore history and its lessons. Also, 52% may mean a plurality of Americans in Chap’s mind, but almost half of the same population voted against Obummer.

In my mind, both Hitler and Obummer took advantage of a waning American economy and “prestige” as a rationale for why their leadership would usher in a new “hope.” Yet, leadership that is only built on promises and nothing else isn’t very confidence boosting.

Rush has no use for politicians and lampoons them at every opportunity. That folks like Hagel have such a thin skin really reveals the empty shell of a politician he was before he chose to retire.

I have never had any respect for Hagel. All one has to do is look at his conduct during the Operation Vanguard raids of meat processing plans in 1988 by the INS to understand Hagel’s integrity or lack thereof.

Hagel voted for the very immigration laws he a) pressurred the INS Director to ignore and when the Director followed through to enforce the law then b) used his position to get the INS Director removed.

I think Hagel is a reprehensible individual, which has ZERO to do with his politics.

Allow me to list a couple of traits:

    1) An interest in controlling the public’s access to firearms

    2) An interest in controlling the media through regulation

    3) A lack of interest in private property rights

    Ahhh…see there we go.

Why is it that liberals have no tolerance for historical comparison? I compare the styles of two different politicians from two different eras, not the individuals themselves. If you could get past your Obama glow, I would think you’d understand that. Both politicians exploited weak economies for their own ends. If you don’t think that was a key ingredient to Obummer’s win then I guess you missed the exit polls.

Actually, Obummer got 52%. I wasn’t aware he had gained a percentage point since all the counting seems to have continued post-election. No need for the exclamation point. Please link your statistic.

This was not a runaway election by any means. Just as many Americans voted against Obummer. I hope you realize that. We’re just as much a divided country as we were before and no shyster of a politician will ever bridge that until Americans themselves take responsibility for their own lives.

    The goals of Ammo Day:

There are an estimated 75 MILLION gun owners in the United States of America. If each gun owner or Second Amendment supporter buys 100 rounds of ammunition, that’s 7.5 BILLION rounds in the hands of law-abiding citizens!

The gun/ammunition manufacturers have been taking the brunt of all the frivolous lawsuits, trying to put these folks out of business. Well, not if we can help it! And we CAN help it by buying ammunition on November 19!

People that think this way should only be mocked and laughed at no matter what side of the political aisle there on. I have an aunt who can tell you a thing or two about what it’s really like to see a Hitler rise to power. For one, the nations’s problems are blamed on one ethnic/racial group i.e. the Jews for example. I’m not sure what the moral equivalent is with Obama, but I’m certain that the weirdos will think of something. Let’s see, “the ______ are to Obama, what the Jews were to Hitler in the rise to power”. It should be amusing.

So, I suppose that people who compare political styles historically are wack jobs, right? So, if you see similar patterns historically, similar rhetorical flourishes, you are part of a fringe group, even if you didn’t do it on a personal level but more on a stylistic, what they said and did level. Not the person, or individual, but the politics.

I’m really am getting quite sick of the Reagan and Obummer comparisons. There are striking differences between the two and I think you know it. Reagan had the charisma, but he had proven track record of governance to back him up. Reagan didn’t threaten to take one’s first and second ammendment rights away. Reagan didn’t threaten to put whole industries like Coal out of business.

I’d be careful, Tanya, who you label “fringe.” Historians compare political, social, even economic movements and it’s useful to know what happened before to understand our history now. Now, yes, there are people who take it to a more popular and personal level. You need to distinguish between those sorting out the patterns and the history from those sorting out the personalities and individuals.

Obama may not be Stalin. He may not try to take us to a one party state.

He may just try to make us like France or Sweden, government control of well over half the GDP, established businesses stay in business, but don’t grow much, as they are heavily taxed and regulated. Don’t hire much either, so unemployment is permanently high. No sudden loss of liberties, just a slow erosion from a cradle to grave ‘nanny state’.

We can assume the latter, if, like Tanya, we assume his close links to violent Marxist revolutinaries, who actually had conferences about reeducation camps and executions, people like Ayers and Dohrn, were just matters of political convenience.

Actually, I don’t think ‘Tanya’ is smart enough to know anything about Ayers, Dohrn, planned bombings of enlisted men’s dances, the murder of several police officers, Dohrn’s admiration of Charlie Manson, any of that.

She just knows Obama is really cool, and hip, and talks about ‘hope’, and ‘change’, and she is really proud of herself that she voted for a Black dude. Doesn’t matter what his background or views or experience are. She is hip and with it.

The Fairness Doctrine will help ensure that all talk radio dies. (Air America, anyone?) If it gets passed, we might as well move on from AM radio. We will likely never see such a doctrine applied to broadcast television.

However, I doubt that the doctrine will ever silence folks like Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham, and Levin. In this day and age, we’ll find formats for them to be heard. So long as there are those of us that want to hear their message, they’ll get through. As it stands now, I get my talk radio on PodCast.

Not the person, or individual, but the politics.

Okay, compare the politics, or political style of Obama to someone like Hitler. If you think that argument or comparison holds up, you have no grasp of reality concerning Hitler’s rise to power.

I’m really am getting quite sick of the Reagan and Obummer comparisons.

Me too, but Obama’s rise, style, and politics have more in common with Reagan than Adolph Hitler. I’m sure you would disagree. I don’t quite believe the stats since there was fraud involved in multiple states and these same stats are being given by news sources such as CNN who actively engaged in campaigning for Obummer.

I’m not certain this would be wise. First, it plays directly into the hands of those claiming the FD is necessary in order to promote “balanced” political coverage – having a self-avowed politician on the airwaves clearly biases them. Second, Rush’s talents are focused on entertainment; I don’t see him being an effective politician. In the end, any such move toward politics would wind up removing him from the airwaves.

He stands a much better chance at beating a re-imposition of the FD by sticking to his guns and continuing to claim he is an entertainer, not a political commentator.

    The goals of Ammo Day:

The goal of National Ammo Day is to empty the ammunition from the shelves of your local gun store, sporting goods, or hardware store and put that ammunition in the hands of law-abiding citizens. Make your support of the Second Amendment known–by voting with your dollars!

Well, there’s one more can of 440 rounds of 7.62×54R at the shop. I hope it’s there tomorrow!

Do you have a background in History? As someone who does, and who learned the comparative method from History professors who engage in comparative history, all sorts of things, like different politicians and movements are compared. Hitler didn’t start out as an evil, megamaniacal dictator. The German people believed in Hitler for his potential to put Germany back on the path of prosperity as do Obummer’s voters.

Me too, but Obama’s rise, style, and politics have more in common with Reagan than Adolph Hitler. I’m sure you would disagree. Do you have some kind of special bond with Obummer? Obummer isn’t Reagan. You either don’t know Reagan well or think that linking Obummer to him gives him more cudos or gravitas than he actually deserves. Folks of my ilk? Okay, said by someone with a very thin skin who doesn’t either study/understand history on ANY LEVEL. That’s okay, since the American people don’t pride themselves on an education that doesn’t bother to make connections anymore.

I also don’t throw around Hitler lightly, but you must know that he’s a topic of continued fascination by academia. I am not a crazy person, nor am I doing this for cathartic reasons. I’m doing so based on my knowledge of modern European history. Right now, the USA is showing signs of the same economic instability as the Weimar Republic but because people really are reluctant to learn the entire history of Hitler, not just how he rose to “fame” but what got him there, there will be constant assertions from those like “you” that those who make such comparative studies are “wack jobs” or the “fringe.” You’d be surprised who’s making studies, on both sides, in academia right now.

Again, you could pick from hundreds of political models, but you choose the most evil, heinous leader of the past few hundred years. It just says a lot. People outside the fringe simply don’t think this way. I say the same thing about people on the left demonizing Bush for the past 8 years.

Again, you, like many people, attach a lot of personal animus/emotion to Hitler. You do realize that historians study the likes of Hitler and Stalin for a reason, right? I’m a historian, and I’m engaging this topic on a historical level, not a personal one. Any time someone even brings up Hitler, people clap their hands over their ears. There is such a reluctance to look beyond the evil. There was more to Hitler than that. History is never, ever that simple.

Let’s be clear, since you’ve come to your own conclusion about me. I’m not scapegoating any particular group, nor am I making a DIRECT, personal comparison between Hitler and Obummer. I’m deeply troubled by Obummer because he exhibits signs that don’t represent the kind of bi-partisanship he supposedly embodies.

I’m not saying that Obummer will kill millions of people, or even start a war. However, Obummer has made some supportive noises about restricting both first and second ammendment rights in America. Did you miss that? That doesn’t indicate to me that he cares about all Americans or their rights, only the “fringe” lefties who got him where he is today.

You seem to be attached to your own history but refuse to make connections. Historians study this stuff to spare you the hard work. I don’t know who or what Obummer is. And I also think you and many of his supporters don’t either.

    I guess we’ll learn together.

Ah… real life calls… no, don’t worry, I never discuss Hitler over dinner, just dessert. ;-)

Hey Sybil. Get a different prescription. Who was it an uncle, father, or a neighbor. Was it somebody else altogether? It’s not your fault Lolita Feebiebabe. Just focus, pray, and take your meds.

Tanya – who is immature and hateful? I certainly dont think incest is a funny subject…do you?

I have been watching your incoherent statements all day. You are ridiculous. Have fun mocking me. I enjoy the stupidity of your posts. It must be bliss to live in such ingnorance, no?

It you want to spend the next 4 years blaming, whining and moaning, I’ll have fun mocking you.

“it, what, huh, wha,” HUH? Slow down, what are you trying to say? LMAO

Let’s all pray that Hagel gets an appointment. Then hopefully Gov. Heineman can appoint a Republican to replace him.

That is incorrect, Hagel is quiting (thank God), there will not be an appointment. Mike Johanns has already been elected to the seat. Hopefully he is better, but he has shown over the years that he is always looking to move up and not necessarily interested in finishing the job he was elected or appointed to do.

Also, I apologize for my state keeping Hagel in office for so long. I have long known that he was a RINO.

You seem to hit the meds thing a lot. Have they had a role in your life, TANya? Many a joke is said in truth as they say.

With replies like this you demonstrate your own sense of self-worth.

I’m not telling jokes. I’ll pray for Feebiebabe. She introduced herself to me as a bipolar “Bastard out of Carolina” type. I hope she’s okay and I hope the cycle is broken. Now go back to not caring about what I say, or what I think. We’ll see about your 150 days talk. I’m laughing now.

    Bye.
