Tuesday night open thread: Icing on the cake
I promised a photo of my son’s Pikachu cake from last week. Couldn’t have done it without my daughter, who happily provided supplemental icing services when my hand conked out. Not the neatest job in the world, but the birthday boy was happy:

Has anyone heard about a joke that some Polish politician told about Obama’s grandfather? Really poor taste, even if he didn’t mean it.
I’m also enjoying how liberals get all offended about people comparing Obozo’s ideas to Hitler’s and Stalin’s after the YEARS of abuse they heaped upon George Bush. Suck it up, crybabies.

When your little ones grow up and leave the nest, you find yourself shopping, having lunch/dinner with friends, getting hair or nails done. Today I shopped – bought a cute little Walther P22 LR SA and spent the afternoon fondling it

As a former advid fan of Pokemon, I am now 25 yr. old woman, I say excellent job on the artistic depiction of my favorite Pokemon Pikachu! Honestly, I still watch the show once and a while. Great work Michelle!
My mom owned an ice cream store when I was a kid. Cake decorating is my secret talent.
Once, when my wife and I were dating, I bought a small birthday cake for her. The person at the store did not know how to write on it, so I lept over the counter, and did it.
In hindsight, I am lucky I did not get arrested.
Wonderful! Way better than I could have done.

Much better than my Big Bird cake, but what’s the diff, cake and frosting, mm mmm good. Great job, Michelle, you’re a woman of many talents. I always tell my kids, no matter what it looks like, there’s love in every bite-full.
Sunday I shopped for a cute little Glock and in 8 more days I will get to bring it home.
My hand cramped up just looking at all the individual dollops of frosting.

I still remember the homemade The Black Hole themed cake my mom made for me on my 7th birthday. Was it picture-perfect? No, not even to my young eyes. Still, it showed that she knew me, she knew what I liked and what mattered to me.
I hope your son loved his cake as much as I loved mine.

It reminds me of a birthday incident during my youth.
My Mom had made a homemade 3-layer yellow cake with chocolate frosting (my favorite!). Another relative had brought a store made cake with all the fancy swirls and fancy writing.
The adults decided to put the candles in the homemade cake because the other one was so darn pretty.
When candle-blowing-out time came around, I leaned across the table to blow them out, leaning my chest onto the fancy cake, which stuck to me as I stood back upright.
Sadly, there are no known photos of what has become known as “the cake incident”. But my Mom sure had a gleam in her eye as they peeled that cake off my sweater.

I miss those days when my kids were little and I could do stuff like this for them.
Now, they are teens and store bought cakes for them. Easier on me but not as personal.
Michelle, enjoy this time with your little ones. It goes by so fast. Soon, you will be looking at pictures and wondering where the time has gone.
And one day, your little ones, grown to adulthood will remember the thoughtful things you did and be grateful.
This is what it is all about folks. It doesn’t get any better than family.
