“Demented:” Joy Behar disses homeschool students

Joy Behar of “The View” has the IQ of a rotten tomato, the manners of an ass, the mouth of a street thug, and the chutzpah to declare that “a lot” of homeschooled children are “demented.”
I guess we should give thanks that she sits around a table kvetching with other liberal women for a living instead of doing what she did before Hollywood embraced her. That’s right: She was a…public school teacher.
Her bigoted remarks dissing homeschooling begin at around the 6:10 mark and climax at 7:10 with Behar showing her contempt for both homeschooled students and parents: “A lot of them are demented when they’re homeschooled.”
Right. Because they’re so much better off in public schools where “proper socialization” takes the form of ideological child abuse. Eh, Joy?

I can’t even call this funny. Scary thing is, these are the people running the country at this moment.
We have prayer…but, I am still scared. Truly.
Wow. I have a better word than bigot, Michelle, and it rhymes with witch. Joy obviously doesn’t have the first clue about home schooling, home schooled kids, and home schooling parents! She and other like her are one of the primary reasons I and my husband are home schooling our two kids.
I’d love to see statistics on how much money is spent per child for public school education nationwide and their average test scores in math, reading, and science. Then I’d love to see the same charts for homeschooled children.
Then I’ll laugh all the way home at what constitutes liberal intelligence if Behar is the best they got for a mouthpiece.
This womans photo is in the dictionary under the word…..MORON. She is the most clueless, tactless, arrogant,SHRILL, tacky excuse for a woman on television.
Where did she ever get the idea that people respect her opinion on anything? Talk about living in a fantasy world.
My goodness she’s an idiot, at least Whoopi corrected her on the lame comment about “the Byrd sisters” clueless twit.
Rude classless and brain dead is no way to go through life NoJoy.
M.U.S.T.G.O.P.U.K.E.N.O.W.
Let us all be thankful she is not in the classroom anymore. We can also continue to ignore her worthless commentary on tv as well.
Joy Behar should be fired over this comment…she has insulted every parent and child in America that are involved in homeschooling. I just want to know why she feels the need to say such hateful things? Hey Joy, you no longer need to make Christians and conservatives look stupid…your mindless liberal views are front and center now. I’ll bet the token conservative (Elizabeth) didn’t say one word to that loud mouth bag.
I know several homeschool families. The children are all very intelligent, well-adjusted, well-socialized, religiously faithful, and well-adjusted.
I guess when you’re a miserable, aging feminist liberal like Behar, all those things seem “demented.”
To the rest of us, they’re just normal.
Wow! same description can be used for misstressjustice.
Is Joy Behar anything other than a hateful malcontent hag? Whatever else she may be, she is certainly the opposite of funny.
Libtards hate homeschooling because children with actively involved parents can’t be indoctrinated by the state. If they can’t be indoctrinated, then they can hear the likes of Behar and immediately recognize the vapid idiocy of her world view.
If libs hate it like poison, then it’s almost certainly the way to go.
Just seconds before I surfed in here, my eldest son and his really hot teacher poked their heads in my office door for a report to the principal. He just scored a 49 out of 50 on his geometry test.
Let’s see here…. 49 out of 50 on his geometry test but he (and his teacher and principal) are “demented”….
de·ment·ed (dĭ-měn’tĭd) adj.
Mentally ill; insane.
Suffering from dementia or a loss of cognitive function.
49 out of 50 on the geometry test but “suffering from a loss of cognitive function.”
Yep, that works.
If I could say what I really wanted to say, I’d get thrown off this site.
Joy did say that, and she also said that the Obama children should be home schooled in the White House. She added that other children should be brought into the White House to be home schooled with the Obama children. Is she suggesting the Obama children are or will be demented?
Joy threw out a one liner, she is afterall a comedienne. I would prefer to see her have an extended conversation on the subject. Not just one line.
Moreover, I can’t recall but the subject of the National Spelling Bee has come up on the Veiw. I wonder what Joy has said about the most recent winners who were home schooled?
Much ado . . .
I would bet my house that she has NEVER talked at length with home schooled children or their parents.
Given that set of facts what can one logically gather from her rant?
She is a bigot. Nuff said.
Poor Joy Behar, one of the more intellectually blank people incessantly running their mouths to express their unwanted and unneeded opinions over the vast media airwaves as if millions were entranced and hanging on to their every word. In their minds they are giants of wisdom, pillars of society, and divas all. In reality, their spurt will soon sputter, their vanity, avarice, and conceit will destroy them and they will go forth into obscurity and be forgotten for all time, the sooner the better.
My six year-old is smarter and more articulate and a lot more gracious and composed than Behar! But, that stands to reason since she is obviously the “special needs” member of “The View.”
What a PUTZ!
It’s hard to sit through 10 minutes of the video to see a few seconds of Behar’s sludge. It’s like being in a hen house with them cackling all at once…painful!
The thought of Behar being a school teacher is scary to say the least.
I remember an episode of “Politically Incorrect” when Behar (I refuse to associate the word “joy” with her) attributed Ted Kaczynski’s anti-technology death crusade to the emergence of computers. According to her, mathematicians (Kaczynski is a math Ph.D.) like to do lots of arithmetic manually, and since the computer makes manual arithmetic obsolete, it denies math geniuses like Ted their life’s calling.
Now, when I was in college, if I wanted to find out more about computers, I always went to one of my math professors. In fact, computer science was taught within the mathematics department at that time, at my school. The mathematicians were just obsessed with computers. So Behar’s analysis was, well, lacking. And by lacking, I mean knee-deep bull—.
Her take on homeschooling would be correct if homeschooled kids thought the way she does.
lol ironman, thats why Michelle said her rant started at 6:10.
Behar is outright gauche.
I’m still stuck on their fascination over that stupid Obama clip! Walters proclaimed, “He’s so smart!”.
Uh…what? Behar declares, “Now that intellectualism is back in the White House…”. As they natter on about dog-walking and who’s allergic, the culmination is dissing homeschooled kids?
Seriously; these women are idiots.
As a teacher in the public school system, let me offer a bit of advice: If you want your children to have a rigorous and thorough education, get them out of public school.

Joy us one of dumbest, big mouth persons I’ve ever heard. The one to her left, Whoopie, is only a little better. Barbara has always struck me as being pretty darn smart. So, who does the show appeal to? Some of the dumbest humans on earth? OK, so, I want to send some emails and make some telephone calls. Numbers and email address’s for Barbara, the station, the poor sponsors spending money to support idiots like Joy. Elizabeth should leave that flock of corrupt hens. I don’t know how she stands showing up for work everyday. What a collective group of big mouth losers.
Elizabeth should have pulled out her nightstick and bonk bonked Behar’s head!
BONK BONK BEHAR…BONK BONK!!
Joy is nothing more than a female version of Howard Stern, she just wants to piss people off for ratings – only difference is that he was/is a shockjock on the radio … We, unfortunately get audio AND video of her!

My home schooled children, 11th grade and 9th grade, are some of the most well-”socialized”, articulate, self-motivated, achievement-focused teenagers that I know. They excel in their school work, they can speak easily with both peers and adults, and they are not being brainwashed with the liberal garbage being disguised as education in the public school. I’m a home schooler, and I am proud!
Ironman,
agree with you. Elizabeth is far to kind, so far. In my opinion, she should do exactly as you said. Take a night stick and do a couple of big knock knocks. The problem is—it would be like hitting an empty beer can.
Home schooling is bad because it doesn’t churn out glassy-eyed, Obama-hymn-singing little lefties.
I’m the product of ten years of Catholic schooling, three years of (Catholic) home-schooling, and one-and-a-half years (so far) of (Catholic) seminary.
There’s a name for such ladies. But it isn’t used in decent society.. outside of a kennel.
Joy has the big-city view of home schooling. In the NYC area, most of the home schooled kids fall into one of two groups:
Either they from extraordinarily devout families concerned about the corrupting influence of contemporary society, to who even parochial schools are not safe enough.
Or kids who have difficulty socializing.
The idealists (to say it nicely) came to power in New York City in the late sixties, and managed to preside over the destruction of almost all the once great high schools partly because they didn’t believe in the old methods of of maintaining order, which included expelling unruly students. The idealists have set up things such that even a student who openly threatens a teacher is automatically entitled to several hearings and appeals.
Another major contributing factor was the availability of guns, which escalated teen conflicts to a lethal level. (And by the way, these guns were made by Colt, Smith & Wesson, and all the major manufacturers.) My high school, which was once one of the top 10 in the city, still can’t control the violence, even with metal detectors, 10 armed security guards inside, and police vans waiting outside.
The city has some elite high schools that admit students based on a blind admission exam, with no reference to background.
The idealists, let by acclaimed (by who? I may ask) educators such as Jonathan Kozol, and in agreement with writers like the detestable Bill Ayers, call these schools racist institutions, because to the idealists these schools draw the best students away from dangerous and decrepit high schools. They don’t care that the qualifying test and admission process is ‘color-blind’. And apparently the idealists have decided that Asians who make up a large percentage of the student bodies aren’t minorities anymore.
A strong, relentless effort by mayors Giuliani and Bloomberg did much to stop the failed social experimentation of the idealists. New York City now even lets students apply to the high schools they want to attend. There are some a handful of good local high schools left. The rest were ruined with the best of intentions.
Whadda you expect from a public screwel teacher?
A few years ago, my nephew showed my a brochure (from Univ of Texas, I think). It had a bar graph showing average ACT (or SAT?) scores for freshmen entering the various colleges. As you’d expect, education majors were at the low end.
There are smart school teachers… it must be really frustrating working with idiot colleagues, idiot administrators, idiot students and their idiot parents. These teachers deserve sainthood.
Walter Williams makes a similar observation:
http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/williams051904.asp
Joy ( what a misnomer that is) Behard is really just upset that homeschoolers can actually say the Pledge of Allegiance using the word GOD with total impunity.
Lib losers such as this lonely wretch don’t understand anything like a Pure Loving God and therefor will always refuse to surrender to a Higher source of Comfort and Knowledge. REAL Knowledge.
She has probably never felt the absolute LOVE that comes from the Lord and will not accept the Grace and Wisdom that comes with such a relationship.
Sad sad lady.
She’s a very bitter and angry woman. I predict Joy Behar will go the same way as the other bitter, angry woman who was on the show…what’s her name again?
Joy,
That isn’t you, is it?
(just kidding!
)
The nice part of home school is that the kids only study an average of four hours a day. It’s play time and self discovery the remainder of the day.
Do you want to know why people home-school their kids? When they see over-inflated school boards with more money than imagination, teachers who couldn’t care for potted plants, rampant classism and materialism of ill-behaved children and outdated or irrelevant material taught in class, they think: home-school. I wouldn’t let my kids be taught by some idiot who couldn’t locate Canada on a map, would you? Sure, you can’t talk about Christmas but you can let some morally irresponsible ’60’s drop-out drone on about vices. You can’t eat peanut butter for breakfast but if your kid isn’t wearing GAP jeans, expect some cyber-bullying.
Yes, I’m feeling really confident about public schools right now.
You have to understand the code. By “demented” she means “not liberal” (and maybe even – shudder – Christian!). In her lexicon, that’s the same as being mentally ill.
Bigoted is about the nicest thing you can say about this woman’s attitude.

And proud you should be! Kudos to you.
As an outside observer, I have noticed that not only are home-schooled kids intelligent, they have a great self-image because they aren’t subjected to mental and emotional abuse from liberal teachers and peers.
They act more like adults than most liberals twice their age.
There are some towns in this country where the test scores are so dramatically higher for home schoolers, that the schools refuse to allow them to be published in the news paper.

Bingo! Liberals really do believe that to be a Christian is to be stupid and/or mentally ill.
They are against us, not for us, and they laugh at us when people buy stuff like this and this.

You may also note that they interact with adults better.
I was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. I now live in the southeast US.
My children attend terrific Catholic schools and I am happy with our choices for them. That said, I have several friends who homeschool their kids. Most are as adjusted and social as any other kids out there. There is one family we know that, in my opinion, is out of their minds. They have pretty much managed to alienate themselves from everyone out of irrational fear of the outside influences.
These people are that way because they are nuts, not because they homeschool.
Joy Behar is a moron, plain and simple. She is a perfect example of the snotty, snobby New Yorker I try so hard not to be likened with- provincial, while thinking she is so enlightened and cosmopolitan. She has no clue, just like many Manhattanites- if you do it someone else’s way, you must be crazy.
I think homeschooling done well (like any schooling) is a great thing for kids.
Speak for your own school. I am also a public school teacher, and my school is great. We’re doing things to teach kids that are successful, and my school is filled with hard-working, conservative men and women who push kids to be the best they can be.
For everyone who has a problem with public schools:
the problem is as much your fault as any administrator. Get to the polls and vote for someone else for the school board, or if you’re that passionate about it, serve yourself.
That’s for sure. For every nutjob home school parents, there are 10,000 nutjob public school parents.
In homeschooling very young children(grades 1-4),one should consider using some of the older school books such as the Noah Webster Blueback Speller,The Boston Primer,or Robinson’s Arithmetic books. They may seem antiquated in today’s PC ‘new math’ digital age,but I can gaurentee that they are not for weak dispositions!
The blueback speller is full of complicated words used in sentences as examples and has lots of moral teachings. The arithmetic books really force you to think. If a child were taught with these 19th and early 20th century books, they would definitly have a leg up on the children that are taught that it is better feel good and have concensus than to learn concrete tried and true knowledge.
Preach it ironman!
Surely you must mean those democrat voters (felon voters) who just didn’t bother obeying the 1911 Sullivan Act, don’t you?
Quick story – the neighbors next door home school their two sons (ages 8 and 5)…on Veterans Day they brought over to me some homemade cookies and two homemade cards, thanking me for my service.
None of the other kids on the block, who go to public schools, did anything like that…get’s you thinking, doesn’t it?
May I ask a simple question?
What exactly is Joy’s claim to fame? I mean what qualifies her to be any kind of person people should listen to?
She’s ignorant, bigoted, and just plain stupid.
And don’t forget she’s a product of the Teachers Union – who absolutely hate homeschoolers and non-union schools. The reason the hates homeschoolers is that they deprive the union of money.
Joy Behar thinks home school kids are demented?
Sounds like the way to go!
Oh my, that is hilarious.
Joy is a hateful little woman with a pulpit. I can only be thankful she isnt teaching children anymore.
Long ago Walters lost control and sits there with her Cheshire grin like a feeble old great-grandmother who can’t control her spoiled progeny and the others have sensed it.
The others know they have free reign to spew out all of their evil-natured filth and bitterness in front of the nation each day with impunity.
As the years pass, and as they perceive nothing good on the horizon for themselves, that is, they realize they are not a Goldberg or the obese one to be rewarded by the network with their own show, they are becoming hateful, bitter, old women, finding no good anywhere except in the likes of an Obama.
Yet, as long as they are encouraged by the adulation of the audiences, though not realizing that their relevance has waned, they still occasionally toss a small pebble into the pool to make a few ripples.
Behar has all the intellect of a constipated flea.
This festering gasbag epitomizes the adage, “It’s better to be silent and thought a fool, then to open it and remove all doubt.”
In homeschooling our two kids, I would stack a PhD and AS Degrees up against anything this bimbo has to provide an education.
It is interesting though the ones usually making such comments about homeschooling usually show their ignorance in so many other ways before making said comments.
Outraged-that’s the page we home educators should take from the Dark Side…
OUTRAGE>>>
C-CS
This woman is VILE.
Uh…not exactly. I still pay outrageous amounts in property taxes so the liberally stacked local school board can find ever more creative ways to p!$$ it away.
Which is why, as a poor, poor teacher recently suggested, I cannot serve on the local school board. I am too busy working to pay my taxes while teaching my kids at home. If I had the chance to serve, it wouldn’t matter anyway since the Teachers union thugs are so thoroughly entrenched that it would be a waste of time.
My local school district gets $7,300 per student per year to ‘educate’. Oh, what I could do with $7300 a year…never mind the $29K the district would get if I enrolled my children with them! For that matter, oh what I could do with $730 a year!
Recently the women who was watching the ‘teen’ room at the YMCA we use, told me what wonderful fun my children are to have in the room. Mine are not teens, but they’re too old for the ‘little kids’ room, so into the big kids’ room they go. There, they interact with anyone and everyone, admire their artwork, try to break-dance, invite them to play pool, interact, talk, socialize….all in complete ignorance of the fact that Little Kids Don’t Talk To Big Kids. Other young kids who have to go in there, seat themselves against the wall until their parents come for them, don’t interact, don’t even look at the big kids. They never have, they’re not allowed, it doesn’t even occur to them to try.
The lady said she can only hope her own child (5 years old) might grow up to be like that. She wants to homeschool. My children are an encouragement to her of what that can mean.
Now, I’m entirely certain I’ll miss some important thing along the way. But ignorance can be corrected. It’s very much harder to break out of conditioning and ingrained expectations.
I wonder if Joy or anyone on the show could pass this 8th grade test from 1895.
I basically gave up my job (working now a night shift for half the pay) in order to take care of my daughter during the day.
We are a home school family and I am very proud of her. My wife makes good money and it allows me to teach my child.
Granted, we call our school “Sarah Connor Elementary” and she has learned things like the Dirty Harry .44 Magnum speech along with Shakespere, but I wouldn’t change a thing.
There is a lot of mud in JoyBeharville.
First I laughed, then I laughed at my laughter. And then I thought, “Everyone knows about public school teachers now [and that they will get what a dig that phrase is, too]“.
And that brought a further smile; there is hope when it becomes commonplace to use “public school teacher” as a meme for a liberal dope full belly up to the public trough spouting nonesense that “It’s all about the kids and the future of the universe”. Actually, it’s not it’s all about the overpaid and underperformed job that they do…
Now I’m demented, it’s a good thing I don’t have low self esteem.
She sounds exatly like the type of public school teacher that pushed me into being homeschooled…
I had the unfortunate opportunity to have to watch this show for a few minutes, a couple of days ago. These people have no idea what they’re talking about, except the fact that they think they’re geniuses at everything and everybody. The sad part is that the audience believes them; celebrity worship to the extreme. I guess there are people who lead such boring lives that they have to live vicariously through these celebrities. As far as homeschooling goes, once again, they have no idea what they’re talking about. They just spend the whole show hiding their ignorance by “assuming” things. And, what are the first 3 letters of “assume”?
I do wonder just how many of these “Demented Home Schooled Children and their parents” this Joy Behar of “The View” really has met. I doubt very many. But at least she in Sodom South and not teaching children at the moment. Reason 645 to pull your kids out of public school. Joy Behar and Barbara WaWa, now there is a pair to draw to. But Liberals are consistent: Every day and in every way they give me a new reason to hate them.

Is NOW the time for the Second American Revolution?

Their parents want them to survive! Physically and emotionally. Loving parents are much better equipped to nurture and raise children than union-type bigots like her and others seen recently here.
Behar’s genius leads me to believe that public schools generate ignorant/indoctrinated students because their faculty is comprised primarily of ignorant/indoctrinated teachers.
Joy Behar is a troll
I couldn’t even listen to the whole tape. Why anyone would watch this dribble at all is beyond me. The collective IQ of the panel is below normal.
I homeschooled my son after a teacher labeled him a discipline problem and wanted him relegated to Special Ed. Why? Because he addressed her as “Ma’am” and it “made her feel old.”
Homeschool kids need an average of only four hours a day for study, because they don’t have to waste time idling or doing busywork while waiting for the moron kids to catch up.
My daughter went to fine private schools where she got a first-rate education (as evidenced by her 4.0 average at University, studying microbiology). But she will tell you that she learned more of value from the time I spent with her doing little “projects” than she learned in school.
Teachers argue that smaller class sizes are better. So what’s the limiting case? One student? Sounds like the argument for lower student/teacher ratios is the argument for home-schooling.
I’ve never heard of a homeschooler taking a gun and shooting up his school. But, I’ve heard of public schoolers doing that.
This woman is without a doubt one of the top ten dumbest slugs in the free world.
Well isn’t Joy Behar special!
I’d like to reach across the aisle and…re-adjust her attitude! But alas, there’s no fixing stupid and ugly. And mean to boot, what a nasty combination.
Just remember, about half the American public has a below-average IQ, and Joy Behar has firmly established herself near the bottom of that group.
Having lived in Germany from 1987-2006 my children attended the german school system. Where everything is based on your merits, not the touchy feely pc crap that infests our schools.
I never really understood why my sister home-schooled her kids until I retired from the Army and moved to the states. The dems and the NEA have destroyed our schools.
God bless all the home-schoolers and their families.
I keep hearing teachers asking parents to get more involved in their kid’s education. How does 100% sound?
You can’t get more involved than that.
I am a home schooling mom and I do not lightly dismiss this comment. It is a prevalent idea among liberal elitist types who thing they know how to raise our kids better than we do. This is a warning shot. They, in lock step with teacher’s unions, are gunning for our kids. They will use the Obama presidency to expand the reach of the NEA and try and shut down our home schools if we let them. Join HSLDA or your state home school association. These are the organizations that are involved in the daily fight for our freedoms. We are one law away from losing the right to school our kids at home.
Can’t you feel the love and acceptence of the left?????
Fascinating.
I’ve never seen footage of a talking asshole before!
She has certainly secured a chair at Satan’s table.
I can’t wait till she finally shows up there.
Money is the reason why people like her say the things they do so that if they make enough people angry they will have feed off from the anger for more topics to keep their show going.
As much as I hate to even think about this haggard troll, I just had to respond. Behar is even uglier inside than she is outside. God help her….
What an ignoramus Behar is. But it fits well with Whoopi Goldberg not knowing what suffrage is (link).
It’s better to be silent and thought a fool, than to speak up and remove all doubt.
How can anyone take child rearing advice from a women who can’t even buy a bra that fit right?
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Watch her after the camera has been on her for more than 2 minutes. She starts shifting and ajusting those puppies with her upper arms cause her bra doesn’t fit right!
What are Behar’s academic credentials, any way? As Send_Me pointed out, in the early days of our nation, there was no “public school system” like we have today. Children were often taught at home, largely from the Bible, and, as a result of the spiritual and academic discipline they gained, became the truly great leaders of this nation. We have fallen so far away from this model that I am very troubled for the next generations to come.
Behar did say she believes Christian saints were not really holy people, but mentally ill:
Joy Behar: theologian, mental health professional, and education/parenting expert.
I’m homeschooling my two boys starting in September, and Mizzzzzz Behar simply reinforces the fact that I’m doing the right thing.
Ms. Behar is a harpy.
