The miracle of Haleigh Poutre
Almost three years ago, I started blogging about beautiful Haleigh Poutre. She’s the miracle child who was nearly beaten to death by her barbaric stepfather. Hooked to a ventilator in a comatose state, she was then nearly condemned to death by Massachusetts medical experts and the state’s criminally negligent child welfare bureaucracy, which hastily declared her to be in a hopeless vegetative state and wanted to pull the plug on her life. Thank God, the campaign to kill her was stopped. This blessed angel has been nursed back to health by an amazing team of caring therapists. Her plight brought end-of-life issues again to the fore — issues that so many on both the left and right would prefer to ignore. The stepfather is standing trial now for child abuse. And that trial has produced video of Haleigh’s progress that will bring you to tears.
The girl the state of Massachusetts wanted to remove from life support is now writing her name, brushing her own hair, and feeding herself. Watch this, pass it on, and let it be a permanent warning against blind trust in the deadly duo of Big Nanny and Big Medicine:

The step-father should be charged with attempted murder, The term ‘child abuse’ is too mild a term to describe what this animal did to this beautiful young girl. It’s inspiring to see she has made progress, and also gives hope to those with loved ones struggling with similar injuries. Haleigh is on my prayer list.

I hope anyone running for the RNC chairmanship and republicans in general takes a good look at that video and their positions on life.
This warm fuzzy society we find ourselves in, doesn’t allow for a reminder of barbarism. We shall as a result, do away with this child..there is no place in our society for her. Thank the Lord some didn’t see it that way. For people who say our modern society hasn’t been degraded by lack of morals and caring, let them look at her and see!

Proof that the human body – that life – is a miracle in and of itself, never to be tossed aside or taken for granted.
Another blogger says there are two phases of history, first the “What could it hurt?” phase and then the “How were we supposed to know?” phase.
I’d like those who support state-sponsored euthanasia to explain how it is acceptable to kill another person, when you’ve seen how remarkable Haleigh’s recovery has been?
Can we forward this to Kathleen Parker, David Frum, David Brooks, and the others who would have the Republican party take a much less stringent approach to defending life?
Seeing this just makes my blood boil when I think about the above types that think we should sacrifice our principles in this area.

Instead of having the taxpayers pay for their grey-hotel maintenance and supervision, why not buy one way tickets for them to Pakistan, smuggle them into the Northwest tribal areas, and drop them off, wearing t-shirts featuring the Star of David on one side, and “Mohammed is a false prophet” in Pastun on the other. That would be justice, and not to mention, cheaper.

Thanks for posting this Michelle, it’s so good to see little Haleigh doing so well. What a beautiful little angel, I pray she’ll get a loving mom and dad to raise her.
I can’t help but think of Terri Schiavo, and all the years she had stolen from her, because of the diagnosis of ‘persistent vegetative state’. So many people given that death sentence have regained consciousness, some even fully, when given care and rehabilitation, instead of the slow, agonizing death of dehydration.

If I’m not mistaken, the birth mother had allowed her sister (Haleigh’s aunt) to raise Haleigh. The aunt committed suicide after killing her own mother. Haleigh’s biological mother had nothing to do with the abuse.
Not all stepfathers are evil scum like this. Some are loving, sacrificing men who treat their adopted children as if they were their very own…because, if you give of yourself fully and unselfishly, they become yours, and, better yet, you become theirs. I know this to be true in my own life, and I have been blessed beyond measure.

Watching this video reminds me of watching the Miracle Worker and the story of Helen Keller. I have no doubt that Haleigh is destined for great things in her life.

I don’t think you will hear any reaction from the left on this. I believe they honestly wish this girl had been condemned to death. They just know better than to say that out loud, at least for now. They can’t see how anyone less than perfect could enjoy a happy and fulfilled life and feel that they are a drain on society. Meanwhile they want to give welfare dollars to people who are perfectly capable of working, but just too lazy to do it. I’ll never understand the way these people think.

I looked over some of the early posts in 2006. It seems that my confidence in Mitt Romney on life issues was not misplaced.
Too bad that charlatan Huckabee colluded with that squish McCain.
God bless Haleigh. But one wonders how many “Haleighs” were sacrificed to the liberal regressive altar of “right to die.”
In this information overload world, we are inundated with tragedies and evil perpetrations on a daily basis, such that it all becomes such a blur, that the brain refuses to contain. Thank you Michelle for revisiting this little girl, and reminding me (to my shame) of something important that I’d forgotten.
Let’s keep praying this little girl progresses even further. To know that her stepfather did this to Haleigh is so maddening. I know a bit about what life is for that poor child. My brother suffered a pretty severe head injury in automobile accident in June. Much like Haley, he is limited in what he can do. One of the hardest things to deal with is his memory loss. Although he can talk, he doesn’t remember any of us and can’t follow commands or participate in a conversation. His frustration level is high so we don’t know if he really understands more than we think and just can’t let us know.

It’s a shame our esteemed political opponents care so little about life.
Press on Haleigh! Your struggle gives us hope, as our hope kept you alive.
We have had nearly 50 million abortions performed in this country since Roe vs Wade. These 50 million potential people would have been our workforce for the future – and we would not now need the 10 to 20 million illegal aliens we now import to do our labor. Haleigh will be a productive member of American society and she will be a reminder to all of the importance of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Oh, and God Bless You Haleigh! You are truly an angel and an inspiration to keep on fighting for what is right.

As for the situation that caused the harm done to this beautiful child… From the left’s perspective, she could have been spared all of this if her mother had simply aborted her. Didn’t they claim that with legalized abortion only wanted children would be born? And if only wanted children would be born, then child abuse and neglect would end?
Instead, what we have seen is that children are now considered a commodity, a fashion statement, punishment, political pawns and medical minefields for fountains of youth. Pope Paul VI warned us, we ignored him, we are reaping what was sown in 1973 with Roe v. Wade and our children are paying the piper.

I couldn’t watch the vid, guess i’m too sensitive to the abuse of a child. But rest assured i am not sensitive to make step dad pay for actions over a long period of time.
Another reason i couldn’t be a cop, too many of these sick bastards wouldn’t make it to jail after they were apprehended. Surprised so many do make it to jail. Don’t bother with the “land of laws” crap now either…if that was the case, lost of cases wouldn’t exist.

I can’t even imagine a Mother allowing a monster to hurt her child. It happened here in Ky just recently and the step-father and mother killed the little girl. They got life sentences. I imagine prison won’t be pleasant for them.

I was wrong about the mother being involved, apparently it was the maternal aunt who had adopted the child so she was the legal mother. I am a mother and an aunt and no one would do this to a child with my knowledge.
One more thing, DSS dropped the ball on this one just like they did with the little girl from Ky. Why aren’t they held accountable too?

kyconservative: When are we as a people going to recognize that organizations like DSS are self-perpetuating bureaucratic enterprises? A child like Haleigh is ultimately just another number to even the most compassionate of social workers because they have quotas and forms to fill out.
I remember the case of a young girl, I believe her name was Nixie Mary Rodrigez, in NYC a few years ago. it was a total systemic failure far worse than this. And it was possible for just one good samaritan to have changed the story for the better. Far too many of us don’t want to judge anyone else’s behavior; thus we hide behind the various educational, police and social service systems so that we can escape a legal problem if we act in someone else’s behalf.
That’s related to the “Kitty Genovese Syndrome”, Pub – the infamous 1964 case where a woman was being stabbed to death and her neighbors ignored her screams.
In the case here, many people actively sought to have Haleigh killed. In the case of Terry Schiavo of course, the charge to have her finished off was lead by her cheating sleazy “husband”. After he got his hands on the money he sought “to care for her the rest of her life” he wanted to be sure she never had the chance to talk, much less to receive the type of needed therapy that Haleigh Poutre was allowed to receive.
In the Kitty Genovese story, the neighbors hid behind “I didn’t want to get involved” excuse. But more and more often, as we see in both Haleigh’s and Terry’s stories, we have people who are “willing to get involved” – in killing someone already victimized, either to rid society of a life they regard as worthless or to make a profit (or both). For that there is no excuse at all, just extreme shame.
MA has no death penalty for convicted murderers.
But they do have a death penalty for innocent little girls?
No wonder these depraved cretins keep voting Democrat!
Hell on earth for many abused children. And we can see God’s redeeming grace and help for us in this little girl’s story.

Mr. Strickland ought to sit in prison for quite a long time. I realize objectivity is required in legal cases, but how can you look at that “without emotion” as the judge indicated? I had tears in my eyes.

The sad thing about this, is that the purveyors of death…the ones who pulled Terry’s plug and watched her slowly starve and dehydrate, the ones who advocated that such a thing is near Nirvana-like in it’s execution…will only dismiss this as an exception, and that others would never reach such a conclusion.

It is what leads some to claim they would not lift a finger if they happened upon someone with differing views who was dying right in front of them. It is what makes them mock those that would save the life of one who is unable to care for or save their own.
When one lowers morality and values of their own lives, they work to lower those of the society in which they live so that they do not appear to be the freaks, demonizing those who maintain the higher morals and values they have shunned.
May God continue to bless and protect you, Haleigh. I wish for you every good thing in life; you are an inspiration and a light.

Let me be clear: this Strickland guy should get the death penalty. He purposely injured a child to the point of death. The life she would have lead had that not happened is a world away from the life she will live now.
No, I’m not a liberal troll. Yes, I’m mushy on this issue because of personal experiences. But I don’t think this girl’s present state is a thing to be celebrated, and I’m not sure if it were my daughter, and if I had the gift of precognition to know that she would be in this state years later, that I would be so quick to insist she be kept alive. Yes, I’m sure you’re offended by that. Ah well.
I have never understood how divorced mothers can trust their children with a man who is not their father. I hold Haliegh’s mom culpable, as well as the despicable step-father!

I am still wondering why Michelle has allowed this chode to remain here. He has proven to be nothing but a trouble maker and has absolutely NOTHING EVER to contribute to the conversations going on at any given time. I would never be so bold as to think to tell Mishelle what to do, but this guy wore out his welcome long ago and has no reason to remain here, period.
As a man who is facing this right now, against everything I believe in, I can tell you that nothing in the world fills me with more dread and fear than this. I personal do not trust any man with my daughters, let alone someone who they may potentially be living with. I do not know of anything that could ever make me feel differently. the situation…at least in my case…should not even be occurring to begin with. But then, it all goes back to how people have made divorce and such things socially acceptable and even “trendy” along with infidelity. (See shows like “Desperate housewives” for a reference)
Fortunately for me, I have my daughters at least 95% of the time. It is the other 5% that keeps me awake.

Some want so bad to “play God”, but we musn’t. This is a trust issue for me. So, no I’m not offended by what you posted. It is so difficult to understand God’s perfect will for our lives. I am praying for you as of now since you mentioned you had personal experience with this.
Every time Michelle puts up something about Haleigh Poutre, I email it to my mom with a “Kleenex Alert.” Such a remarkable girl who’s been put through so much.
