Turkey jive: Palin-bashers strike again; Update:NYTimes editorial board decries “executions”
Scroll down for updates…

Gov. Sarah Palin pardoned a turkey at a local farm in Wasilla and then took questions from a reporter about the event and her Thanksgiving wishes.
Palin said with a smile: “It’s nice to get out and do something to promote a local business and to participate in something that isn’t so heavy-handed politics that invites criticism. I’ll certainly, probably will invite criticism for even doing this, too, but at least this was fun!”
Palin was prescient. On cue, the Huffington Post hyperventilated about the SLAUGHTER! going on behind Palin and the rest of the squeamish, PDS-infected blogosphere followed with horrified rantings about the governor’s callousness. You’d think Palin was standing in front of the camera soaked in blood like Sissy Spacek in “Carrie.”
Farmers kill animals. Then they sell them. Grocery stores package them. Meat-eaters buy them and eat them. This is no big deal — except if you reside in the Ivory Tower or the David Brooks/Kathleen Parker/Arianna Huffington/Daily Kos intellectual complex.
PDS: It never ends.

Update: The New York Times editorial board decries the “execution” of the butterballs. Did David Brooks sneak into the ed board’s office and pen this turkey of an editorial?

A Sarah Palin Thanksgiving
By The Editorial BoardWe’ve differed with Sarah Palin a great deal on substance. We don’t agree with her hardline approach to the Iraq War, her harsh anti-government rhetoric, and her style of negative campaigning.
But we also worry a bit about, how should we put it, the persona she has brought with her to national politics. We did not care at all for the swipe she took against community organizers at the Republican National Convention.
And then there’s this. You don’t have to be a huge animal lover to question why Governor Palin chose to be interviewed — while issuing a traditional seasonal pardon of a turkey — while turkeys were being executed in the background.
I guess they’ll all be going tofurkey this Thanksgiving.

Palin is a political genius.
She just got another ton of free airtime making libs look like morons.
This is not embarrassing or bad, this is real life.
I love the dude in the back checking out the
Governorinterview while he is dispatching the turkey. And honestly, I didn’t know that is how it was done. Edjukashunl 2!– MisCheryl
Yeah, I’ve often wished for a plain-speaking and acting leaders to show up somewhere along the line, but it just seems to me like this silliness would have been simplicity itself to avoid.
Thank GOD for that slaughter. I will be taking part in eating my fill of it’s bounty in just a few days.
tell those Liberal and Vegan half-wits to keep their tofurkey in their own kitchen and off my holiday.
I only wish governor Palin was joining my family along with the friends I already am cooking for.
P.S. if any Liberal says ANYTHING like what they said about her near me…they will wish they hadn’t. Sorry…but I can take no more.
I can’t get enough of the Good Gov. she actually gives me hope for the future…she will have a big advantage tho…there will be one hell of a mess to clean up after 4 yrs of Odummy and his “change” of bureaucrats.
Wacko libs like lgm will even be voting for her. Bet that hurt.
I’m really getting a kick out of watching Palin cleverly mastermind the press.
It’s been nearly 3 weeks since the election and yet they still cannot manage to go one news cycle without mentioning her.
She must’ve really gotten under their skin.
Every year — regularly on the 4th Thursday of November — at our house, we hold a wake for the poor creatures, all those local to our farm, anyway. Clumsy and dumb, many participate in a group accident that usually, on a fanatical note, involved decapitation. Even more conspiratorially, they seem to suffer this “group accident” on a yearly basis, somehow organizing it with the geese, who take theirs in December and a very young sheep in the spring…
We hold it at the ancestral farm, and I can honestly say that we are thankful, with the Election Of The One, that we can still meet there. All the corpses of these poor unfortunate creatures are, strangely enough, always damaged by fire… usually to the point of becoming quite crispy… in fact, they’re damaged to the point of taking on quite a blond, wood-like hue.
The wake lasts from approx. 1530 to 1830, and all the extended family attends. Oh! We go “all-out” to give these poor, poor creatures a proper sendoff: we light the 16in. tapers, and usually use Great-Grandie’s real linen cloth for the viewing, and force our children to handle the ceremonial knives, chalices, dippers and those most necessary and gruesome Ritual Tools: the micro-pitchforks. There are so many in our extended family we are obliged to hold our Unseemly Ritual in the dining-room: it being the largest open room in the house.
There we perform strange and peculiar semi-religious Rituals which involve passing around smashed Solanum tuberosum, congealed fats from the mammary secretions of my Aunt’s livestock, stirred long hours in a wood cauldron… along with parts and pieces of sundry other plants, bits of bread mixed with apples, oysters, and various nuts roasted with fats. My favorite part of the Ritual is where the Ladies unveil their various attempts at perfecting Cucurbita maxima based alchemy. I say that, although last year a new competition was started, adding to our rituals, but the alchemical attempts using that exotic root Ipomoea batatas, went very well and its addition was a satisfying turn of events. These observances continue until the late evening, until all of us are too worn out from the harrowing toil of passing the various potions, concoctions and preparations from hand to hand.
All in all, I believe that this wake is a very necessary thing… we’re not haters, after all.
I’m guessing that seeing those turkey heads get clipped reminds the effete boys in the press what it felt like when they’re __________’s were clipped.
Ugly flashbacks, I’m sure. Probably giving them a tingle down their leg, or something…
Dexter…. just fill the pot with water before you do anything… then put the bird in , you’ll note overflow of water. You want to then make sure the water line, with the turkey in isn’t less than two inches below the rim of the pot. take the turkey out and the remaining water amount is the amount of oil you use… make any sense?
It absolutely would have been easy to avoid. She has to think about perception and psychology. Stupid as any outrage may be, she has to think ahead. If she’d rather just “keep it real” she can accept the fact that she’ll never be considered presidential material by the MAJORITY of the public. Of course the “outrage” itself is ludicrous, unless those offended are true blue vegans or vegetarians. Like it or not, a public official has to always think “how will this look or sound” to the listening/viewing public. Their head must be on the swivel at all times. This turkey issue is minor, but it is representative of a pattern for her whether it be “foot-in-mouth” disease, shopping, or winking.
Well I’m sure their ratings will double because of this breaking news alert – it’ll go from 2-4 viewers before dark!
I’m sick of Palin’s treatment too. Take heart though, after 4yrs of ‘Bambi anything she does will look good and she’ll come off looking like a mental giant for being able to make concise decisions.
UglyAmerican – she not got under their skins, she wormed into their brains and caused permanent damage – they’ll never get over it. They’ll still be talking about Palin long after she’s applied for Social Security.
Sorry misstressjustice. I want a leader, not some invertebrate who is too afraid to act/speak for fear of offending the easily offended.
Most coddled Americans think that that the meat they eat committed
suicide, and not that someone actually had to kill it!

We all do. . .but I also want one who is smart enough to understand that in this particular media environment, simple precautions can avoid ridiculous situations like this.
The intent is to continue marginalizing her influence on national politics in the eyes of the public.
My grandmother would just jerk their necks off.
I for one certainly don’t blame the governor for not wanting to go near that thing. Even free-range fowl will roost in their own feces.
If you’ve ever visited a chicken and/or turkey farm, you’d know that they are some of the nastiest creatures G*d ever put on this earth.
But man oh man, do they ever taste good roasted up and smothered in gravy.
kerryb- after the turkey is loaded into the funnel, the man gets a knife from the block on his left. He cuts each side of the turkeys neck so it will bleed out, then replaces the knife, then holds the feet in anticipation of the turkey thrashing. The funnel doesn’t have any blades in it.

That’s respectable. Rightly, or wrongly the most successful politicians I’ve seen, seem to be extremely image consious, or phony in some way or another. We’ll see if she makes any major calculated changes during the course of her political career regarding her image. I guess we’ll see if her being her will be successful. It wasn’t his year, but maybe we will view politicians differently in the future.

Fixed it for ya. As far as I’m concerned, Sarah already is a a mental giant compared to the Light Worker.
I understand his transition team is worried that they won’t be able to make all his
followersworshipers dreams come true after inaugaration day.The left is terrified of this woman! Thankfully she’s enough like Reagan to say, well, “there you go again!” They’re laughable, and I can hardly wait until 2012!
Horrified? Hardly. Again, you miss the point. This is easily the most hilarious Sarah Palin incident ever. I’ve already watched it at least 10 times and it keeps getting funnier.
You know, we don’t call her The Gift That Keeps On Giving just because she cost McCain the election. There is so much stupid going on in this clip it’s hard to believe it wasn’t intentional. I mean what are they thinking having the turkeys in the shot? Couldn’t the camera guy step to the right a couple feet?
Well, whether intentional or not, in the spirit of the holiday — thank you, Sarah Palin. Thank you.
Palin is a possible threat to the left and anyone that poses such a threat to their control of the country, must be constantly attacked and put down. Very remincent of other countries in history…Russia, Germany, etc..
Maybe they’ve set the bar a little too high for the Fresh Prez of Bill Ayers? :-\
I watched that whole thing, and was amused by the fact that I have the same scarf.
Now what was this about some sort of controversy? Did somebody not like our scarf or something?
Am I evil because I thought it was funny? Poor Sarah …. poor bird but come on … if that had been an Onion Network News skit everyone would have thought it gross humor.
Don’t worry, any failings will be blamed on the Bush legacy, or the ‘obstructionist’ Congressional Republicans, or Conservative Talk Radio hate-mongers, …
Whenever, Tina Fey retires from the character, clips like this keep pulling her back in. Even her biggest fans, must admit that SNL could make a parody of this video brutally funny.
No math- hole. You’re a joke. Ram it up your Non-Euclidean space.
Hey mistressmoron,
Had odumbo been vetted by the press like Sarah he woukld be living in Kenya now.
Please STFU you moron.
Oops…sorry,I forgot. He is enlightened and can do no wrong!
Why does the guy keep looking back? Maybe he thinks Gov. Palin is hot or he is curious about all the hubub, but it seems odd that he keeps looking back as if to make sure they are getting the shot.
One more thing mistressnincompoop,
Had odumbo been properly vetted, America would understand the deep racist, ideological views of many in your black community who hate everything about America because of your teachers of Black Liberation Theology.
All she needs, MJ, is to get the same fawning coverage that BO got….
I really didn’t see what was such a big deal about that. I expected 10 turkeys to be slaughtered at once and blood to be flying everywhere given the setup. I don’t know what the lefties think is so ironic about this. Isn’t this a woman who hunts and dresses her game in the field? What makes them think she “didn’t notice” what was happening behind her as though this is a sign that she’s clueless. My guess is she didn’t care–as well she shouldn’t. She’s an adult.
She did on FoxNews and rightwing dominated talk radio. I think it diminishes the intellectual capacity of the public to blame any failures she had on the liberal aspects of the media. I know most here disagree, so I won’t beat a dead turkey by rehashing the whole campaign. American watched, listened, and decided….end of story.

BTW I strongly suggest brining your turkeys. It makes them really moist.
Dammit. Now I have to clean the drool off of my keyboard.
As a Coloradan, I have to compare every inconvenient-political-backdrop to the mother of them all:
Ritter vs. Beauprez for the governorship.
Beauprez runs a state-wide commercial about his down-home-Colorado values standing in front of a…. wait for it…
horse’s ass. Classic…
Although the visuals of the Palin incident blows Beauprez out of the water, it fails in the irony department. Still a classic political gaffe.
Thanks mike.musculus. Your post was great! I hope you do not mind if I shared it with my siblings. Have a great Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The only worthwhile , sensible post you’ve ever made.
What a funny clip!! Laughing through the whole thing.
To me, it looked like the slaughter guy was taking his cues from the MSNBC camera people!
And, the MSNBC caption writers obviously had a contest to see who could come up with the shmuckiest captions to go along with the video.
Give me a break!
I’m gonna try the brining recipe this year!
If Gov Palin had suggested a different camera angle she would have been pilloried for “manipulating the media”.
misstresscrackerjacklawyer said,

No mistresstwit, Americans did not watch and listen. Because there was extremely limited negative coverage of our new marxist/stalinist leader of the USA.
The MSNBC reporter appears to have purposefully staged this. And WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL???? What will this sick twisted reporter and the rest at MSNBC be eating this coming THursday? Tofu? Where do they think the cooked turkey comes from? Of course, under ObamaNation, many will probably have to start killing their chickens and turkeys and then pluck them, etc., as we used to in communist Easter Europe not so long ago because the store bought meat would run out so fast. this was only about 20 years ago, IN THE CITIES.
Not all Americans decided. I had nothing to do with electing this Moron President. Big time mistake by the one’s who did. Idiots.
Hopey Changey my eye.
Gee!
You city people need to look at reality.
One bit of advice. Try cooking the turkey with the breast down for the first half or so. The juices run into teh breast and make it very tasty. But you need to flip it over at some point so the top gets a nice color.
The best turkey dinner we ever had was a big 25 pound tom covered in cognac. We split the bottle between me and the bird. The turkey basted and I got blasted. Great Thanksgiving!!!!!
Normally you get 90 seconds of a news conference, these guys give you all, just for the squeemish…

For you guys new to the deep fryer method, there are oil level lines in the bucket for different size turkeys. But anytime you put a wet turkey in hot oil, you’re going to get some splash. Put your fryer on a gravel or concrete surface. Do not set it on a wooden deck. And DO NOT leave it unattended.
I’ve always used 4 minutes per pound plus 5 minutes. Perfect bird no matter what size. And if you inject the bird the night before (I use cajun injector brand creole butter but that’s a personal preferenece) you get awsome flavor all the way through.
I was at Cabelas in Rapid City this past weekend, and for advertising their smokers and deep fryers they smoked a chicken for an hour and then deep fried it. Incredible flavor. That’s what I’ll be doing with the Christmas goose (his name is Garth).
My wife refuses to have anything for thanksgiving but a traditional stuffed, baked in the oven turkey, so the deep frying is for other times. Deep fried turkey makes a great summer time get together meal.
Or you can flip it breast down when it’s done for 15 minutes while it “rests”, then flip upright for presentation…
Glad you’re ecstatic, honeypie shugaface luv muffin…..we’ll see what tune you and ‘those’ Americans sing in 4 years.
If there is a surprise in this, it would be the lack of concern, by the camera crew and news stations that distributed this, for the little kids out there that might be watching the news.
As for the rest of us, unless there is some illegal activity in the method of killing that bird, all I see is a silly camera guy.
Other than to the People Eating Tasty Animals(PETA) members out there, I doubt any of this really matters.
Yes, MJ, America watched and listened to fawning media coverage everywhere else in which liberal sites massively outnumber conservative ones-I also don’t view Fox News as “conservative”, a lot of that was pointed here in this blog alone. Yep the US thanks to the MSM and John McCain’s feckless mishandling of his own campaign ensured that they got the kind of info they got-which was little more than Pro-Obama propaganda.
Frankly the intellectual capacity of many Obama supporters is little more than that they participated in a trivialized high school class president election (I refer to the non hard-core left who frankly have no hope )… The vacuousness of their knowledge of Obama from conversations I’ve had in which I just sat back and listened has been telling.
The purpose of journalism (I thought) was to investigate not promote a candidate.
End of Story.
Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air, someone an everyday conservative can admire and identify with. Straight-forward and honest, unlike that “straight-talkin” weasel John McCain. Could the republicans have guaranteed a loss any worse by picking that hump. Damn! And George Bush, could anyone drive the fiscal and constitutional conservative movements into the ground any worse?! What the hell, the first George Bush was awful, but we had such hope for the second.
mistressjustice wrote:
What are you smoking? I dare you to name more than three people who DON’T work for Fox News who are identifiably conservative. Try it. Prove me wrong.
Often the ones who are anti-conservative are easy to find. For example, Katie Couric is an honoree of the rabidly pro-abortion group NOW, which despises rival anti-abortion group Feminists for Life, with which Governor Palin has been linked. In preparation for her interview with Palin, Couric requested advice from two anti-McCain/Palin sources: Former Dem Senator and Obama supporter Sam Nunn, and Council of Foreign Relations President Richard Haass, a GOP donor who nonetheless publicly doubted Palin’s credentials. Note that Couric didn’t call, say, Fred Thompson, who supported her fully.
The Pew Research Center recently published surveys proving leftist bias in network news — echoing at least half a dozen studies in recent years — but you didn’t hear about those because the biased parties would have to tell on themselves.
So much for the “intellectual capacity of the public” — or, at least the members of the public that didn’t comprehend they were being fed half-truths, whole lies, and leftist propaganda.
Congratulations! You’re a dupe.
Exactly. What a bunch of sissies. Faint-hearted, feminized partisans will whine about the time of day if there is nothing else to whine about.
I agree with all those people who say this was a horrible, unforgivable gaffe on Palin’s part.
She should have stood in front of a backdrop that isn’t controversial to the guys at MSNBC. Like, a doctor performing a partial-birth abortion. They’re all on board with that!
It really amazes me that the lefties on this site continue to rehash dismissed lies about Palin.
The left is so scared of her that the only thing they can do is slash and burn.
Interestingly enough, none of this happened while she was running for governor two years ago. In fact, the media was fawning over her about her success as a governor before she was chosen as VP. Her approval ratings as governor were at or near 90%. Something most governors of either party have never achieved.
They’re scared. Very scared of her.
Outside my office as I write there is a rafter of turkeys. There must be forty in the group. Free dinner if you want to help in the butchering. You folks will appreciate your meal more if you go through the whole process.
Obama is the gift which keeps on giving. Mr. Hope’nchange just keeps appointing recycled clintonistas. The only change here is that he won’t live in Chicago. Everyday we can ask ourselves if we were better off 4 weeks ago while he drives this economy deeper into the dumper. The MSM got away with trashing Bush, but Sarah is no Bush. What will the public think of the media’s choice of Obama when the change he delivers isn’t what his supporters wanted? Sarah has plenty of time to make her case with the American public.
Family, where are you?
On one of his cooking shows in the UK, chef Gordon Ramsay had an episode where he took his young son (and his TV crew) to catch a wild rabbit to prepare it as a rabbit ragu for his son’s friends for lunch. They caught the bunny, Ramsay showed his son how to break the bunny’s neck, how to gut it and check for disease in the organs, and how to cook it. Fascinating! I think the son was 8 or 9. Anyway, a lot of Brit viewers went ballistic over the televised cruelty of the rabbit’s death (they did not show the neck being broken, but discussed with the boy HOW it had to be done so the rabbit wouldn’t suffer), and how they thought Ramsay was a horrible father for teaching his son how to kill. The show was much less violent and graphic than many “animals in the wild” shows I’ve seen on PBS and Discovery and I thought Ramsay did an excellent job of teaching his son how to properly hunt from start to finish. So, it seems there are hypocrites on both sides of the pond.
So many Americans are just clueless about food. Do you really think chickens arrive in this world in individual plastic-wrapped trays?
I didn’t grow up on a farm but many of my relatives did. And we all knew what the chopping block and axe was for.
And evidently, Olbermann has an understudy who is just as stupid. I figured there had to be more than one dolt at MSLSD.
psssst, everyone there is. lol
You two should debate this amongst yourselves.
It certainly is more entertaining than rehashing the campaign at this point. Perhaps you all wish the MSM would be more like MM.com(chuckle), you know have a fair and balanced report on Obama. If the media is that powerful and in the tank for The One or That One, whatever,….I guess I’m curious about how you all plan on overcoming this in 2012. Will the media turn on Obama, the man they allegedly rigged the election for?LOL. If the media is that powerful and in the tank, I guess the RNC should just concentrate on congressional elections between now and 2016. I mean why waste the money on running a candidate for pres, when the media can so easily, bamboozle, and manipulate the public so easily in Obama’s favor? Why those stupid, ugly, ugly Americans, patoohey, half-wit fools, all 53 million of them.

What really chaps my hide is the way the Obamanoids in the MSM and out are promoting Democratic Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm as the anti-Palin. That is a true depiction in some respects. Palin graduated from the University of Idaho; Granholm from Harvard Law. Alaska under Palin has a budget surplus estimated to be between $6 and 8 BILLION dollars; Michigan under Granholm is running an $800 MILLION dollar deficit. Palin’s approval rating, according to some sources, has shrunk to 65%; Granholm’s shrunk to 32%.
Yet, when Obama had his meeting of financial “experts” he was consulting to deal with the financial turmoil, there was Granholm, as if she has been anything but a disaster for Michigan. But for elites, that’s the power of an Ivy League diploma: Even if you’re a total disaster, such people think it can’t be because you don’t know what you’re doing.
Non-elites know better.
I’ll abandon this thread because I’m sure most of you would rather talk turkey than go down whatever road this is heading.

Kill da turkey, KILL DA TURKEY!!
Sarah and the turkey that didn’t get away!…it reminds me of a song, The Turkey Song, that I learned in third grade and still sing decades later every Thanksgiving Day to my cornball family to make them laugh.
I heard Mr. Turkey say,
“Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble.
Soon will be Thanksgiving Day,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble.
People say that it’s great fun,
but I think that I shall run,
And wait until the day is done,
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble.”
As for recipes, “The Bobbie”, as made at Cappriotti’s Deli, is great to use up left-over turkey…it’s gotta be fresh pulled turkey pieces and not compressed deli turkey lunchmeat.
1. Slice a chewy hoagie-type roll.
2. Spread with mayo, if desired, but we order it “dry” with no mayo
3. Put on, in proportions you like, chunks or slices of turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing with salt and pepper to taste
4. Enjoy!

It’s all the liberals’s way of telling us that it’s ok for them to hate her as long as we don’t interfere with the plans of their Messiah. This clamor should energize conservatives to the point of putting someone up there who can put Sarah to shame when it comes to conservatism.
The way she rolled over for traitor McCain, that should be pretty easy.

Yeah, the [stupid] public was bamboozled, however, the 52 million of us weren’t stupid to buy into the scam.
Obama is a scam artist. Always has been. And now he’s stuck with a bunch of Clintonistas who think they can re-create the phony Internet bubble economy and save everyone once again.

There is a small mom and pop BBQ restaurant near my place that makes great food. The owner has all the great classic signs hanging in his place such as “If God didn’t want us to eat animals, He wouldn’t have made them out of meat”
I spent a summer in my student days on a farm where the job was to pick the chickens up by their feet and bring them into the trucks where the chickens were then brought to their doom. As stupid as the chickens were, they had a sense of impending doom. When you picked them up, they would squirm and try to reach up and bite your hands. Believe me, they could cut through gloves and my hands were usually cut to ribbons. They would defecate on you also. Until you work with chickens, you have no idea what brutal creatures they can be. (Not that I blame them. Who wants a stranger grabbing them by their little feet?).
Now the hog world is a different thing. As a kid, I had a relative in law who owned a pig farm in Florida. And the pigs are extremely intelligent and personable. Only when you spend time on a hog farm can you realize that. And when I watched the hogs being led to slaughter, I always got a knot in my stomach. My relative in law kicked me off the farm when I complained to him. The chickens are ruthless little b_ _ tards. The hogs, in contrast, are smart and personable.
I feel so very sorry for those that have placed their hope and faith in a candidate that has absolutely no ties to their world. Obama has no American experience with those that placed him in office and I’m convinced he’ll help those from the African continent before he’ll ever help those in the U.S. His bride has already put them on notice he’ll not “allow” them to sit on their sofas nor eat as much as they want nor turn their thermostats to a comfortable level even though they are paying for it. The youth vote that helped place him in office will also spend the rest of their lifetimes wondering why their taxes are so high, their standard of living is not of their parent’s level, and the gov’nt keeps expecting more and more from them. All the goodies, all the promises will be forgotten in 6 months.
What will Obama do with those that refuse to obey the laws that surely will be passed? How will the welfare recipient react when told they have to find work or be cut off while money is flowing to other countries? With the invasion of our borders by those willing to work for less than a legal resident, it brings down the standard of living to 3rd world status. Happy Thanksgiving to the liberals in this country, tighten your belts, it’ll be interesting to see what is on your table in 4 years.
I never knew how they killed turkeys. I also never knew that I would laugh at a story like this, but I did.
Grizzly, I’m with you. If trees were made out of meat, I’d throw some Montreal steak seasoning on bark and hoist it on the grill, too.
Seeing little piglets does endear them to you when you’re a kid yourself. That being said, I would eat their little butts like veal bacon if such a thing existed.
To quote Vincent Vega, “pork is good, bacon is good”.
mmmmmm People Eating Tasty Animals mmmmm
One of my buddies just got back from a hunting trip (legal).
” I got the buck when he was taking a drink from the pond and when his girlfriend came looking around for where he was I shot her too. Bwahahaha! They’re in my freezer now!”
Hunters are a wry bunch.
