T’day open thread
Just got back from a Turkey Trot race. No, I most certainly did not run. As I told my runner husband many years ago, I refuse to run unless someone is chasing me! He did well in the 5k; my daughter ran the children’s race. Unfortunately, she inherited my lungs. It was her first race — and probably her last.
We’ll be spending the day chilling out with family and friends. I’ll be making cranberry-orange relish and pumpkin pies with the kids.
How about you?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! May all your Dishes Come True!
Well, the dawg had surgery and came out semi-blind, so he and I are hanging at home, just put a duck in the oven and cracking open a bottle of wine.
All the best to all of you on this day.
Happy Thanksgiving Michelle–enjoy your loving family and day off. Keep up the good work tomorrow.
Rocketman
The murdered turkey is in the oven, I did all the sides and desserts myself [what can I say, I'm a control freak], just hanging out with the kids, only three of them here as son #1 is on his way from Germany on boat which is doing an Atlantic crossing. Miss him terribly, but will see him in a couple of weeks. Weather is gorgeous here, 70 degrees and clear blue sky. Wishing you all a blessed day.
Volunteers?
Ha! Happy Thanksgiving all.
PS Michelle,
I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates running. I love to walk, but running just seems like so much work!!
Happy Thanksgiving to All!
Michelle, thanks for all you do to keep the fire of conservatism burning in the hearts of American patriots. May God bless you and your family on this Thanksgiving Day.
May we all return thanks to God for His many blessings.
My EXECUTED BIRD is in the oven… Pies just came out dinner at 3ish if all goes well… HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and yours MM, and to all our fellow BLOGGERS…
Spending a few hours at work (thanks to Sarbanes-Oxley).
I prefer walking the dog in the woods of a local park. I enjoy watching her chase the squirrels. She needs to run more than I do. And today was a beautiful morning for our walk.
Wish all a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.
Hmmm. Can’t wait to cut into the apple pie I made last night!
As the proud father of a US Marine that served in Iraq, I’m thankful that my son is home to share this holiday with me.
Just finished preparing my world famous coleslaw and putting the non-pardoned bird in the oven. Everything should be ready in time for the second game.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
No one likes a brown noser.
Bad lungs can be overcome. Trust me.
Have a happy and overstuffed Thanksgiving.
Last year was our first year without our kids at home. Went to Copeland’s for T-dinner. Boring. Food was great though. Talked wife into making dinner this year. T-breast and the fixin’s. Still no kids.
Got a call from our son, in Afghanistan. Made our day. Glad he wasn’t near the embassy car bomb this AM.
As I watch the slaughter of innocent people in India, I’m thankful for being here and under W.
I was thinking what if this happened on our soil after BO gets his new title, how many days would he be “negotiating”?
Even though lives have been lost, I still agree with India’s position … kick @ss now and take names later.
Happy Thanksgiving to all! All of us have much to be thankful for, and long may that continue.
Before I forget… Just what the HELL is “THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT-ELECT”??? Where the HELL is this office??? Seems B. HUSSEIN has forgotten his statement to the G-20, when asked if he would attend the conference… “THE UNITED STATES HAS ONLY ONE PRESIDENT AT A TIME”… GWB is PRESIDENT until 11:59 AM, January 20th 2009… Someone needs to remind BHO… HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
Almost forgot, our executed bird didn’t come giblets. Mrs. JohnnyD has had to improvise with a chicken thigh (another executed bird) and veggies. She said she was making Stone Gravy. What? huh? So, she told me the story of the Stone Soup.
I’m gonna have to tease her if I find any lumps. TeeHee.
If I have 2 posts, I’m sorry. Seems everything is just a little slow.
I’m grateful to live in a country that actually HAS a day set aside to give thanks. Isn’t that awesome? It definitely counters the whining me-ism we see so much of the other times. And it’s been said that thankful people are happy people. Good for the USA!!!
Our family is going one better. We are PERSONALLY executing the 6 lobster, 10 crab and dozens of clams and oysters that will comprise our meal today.
The bloodlust hangs thick in the air.
Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks to MM for not banning the libs.
I’ll be chowing down on some executed turkey later at my cousin’s. I love dead food.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
Mashed potatoes – done
Cornbread stuffing – done
Pie – done
Whole berry cranberry sauce – done
Green beans – done
Rolls – still rising and being slow
Turkey – also slow, and if someone hadn’t already done the evil deed I’d be ready to do it myself about now!
Dinner – 3PM (fingers crossed)
A big thank you and warm Thanksgiving wishes to MM for bringing this motley crew together. I enjoy the little bits of personal stories and advice from each contributor. My family will be offering humble thanks today for the untold riches bestowed upon this nation and people. Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Enjoying a “seniority based” red-line day off with my family. Probably ham and sweet ‘tators and “punkin pie” later this aft. Winter sunk in after early fall warmth this past month. Brrr. So thankful for family, friends, a good job and a still-secure USA. For now. Praying for wisdom for the new leadership. For US sake, not theirs. Fervently.
God’s blessings to MM & family and fellow bloggers here!
Floyd & family
Colorado Territory
(that sadly turned “blue” 4 Nov…blech!)
I suffer from asthma, Michelle. I run, but only in the summer. Cold air makes me wheeze.
We’ll cook our celebratory feast, Saturday. I invited a life-long friend of mine. I hope she comes.
A Blessed Thanksgiving to you Michelle, and to all readers here.
(Yes, chapoutier, to all of you liberals here, too.)
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Take time to be grateful for your loving families, our brave military, and the country that provides the opportunity for freedom worldwide. Pray for our leaders that they may lead us into a bright future, and not down the path of doom.
May God bless you all…even if some of you don’t deserve His blessings.
Hi Floyd,
I voted RED – what happened? Was that a typo in the literature you sent us?
We moved here from The People’s Republic of Kalifornia and – NOW? Does this mean Colorado people will elect a RINO or majorly liberal governor that can’tpeak English?
*waiting for the dead bird to finish cooking so we can gorge ourselves beyond the point of common sense, nap, wake up and do it again (minus waiting for the turkey)
oh – and
Happy Thanksgiving!
I am currently roasting my turkey, who died an honorable death (at least that is what I am telling myself
) and will be with my 4 children and husband.
This is an extra special Thanksgiving for us- our oldest is home from college for the first time, and my husband is home with us for the first time in 3 years on this holiday. Until August of this year, he was a civilian contractor working in Iraq and serving the troops. He called his buddies still over there and I had a tear in my eye as I overheard him talking to them.
I told hubby it was the onions I was chopping for the stuffing, but it was really little tears of joy that he is safe and home with us.
I have much to be grateful for this year. I hope everyone counts their many blessings this year. God Bless America!
Enjoy, everyone!
Michelle,
Who do you think should be the head of the RNC?
Do you think the 168 members of the RNC have been corrupted by George Soros$$$$$$$$
Michelle,
Why can’t the GOP pay a group (code pinkish like) to picket in front of George Soros’s office. A vigil for the whole four years of the O’s term.
Signs could read…Go Home….You bankrupted America……You bought the President…..
Our niece is putting on the dinner and the aunts are making the fixings-wife is doing the pies and I help-licking the spoons, bowls and that stuff. Always willing to help is I.
Tomorrow I can worry about the world–today it is grandkids, grand nephews, nieces, dinner, football and the pies I helped with. Always willing to help with the pies.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Who’s roasting the turkey Michelle?
Here’s something that works for me, yes, a lung exerciser! It really works, worth every penny too.
As our Maronite priest says at the dinner table:
May God the Father Almighty, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob Bless you and your families. And may God continue to Bless our Beloved Country.
Okay, Michelle, here’s what we’ll do. On the day of the run, we’ll call your husband and say that you’re leaving him for Michael Moore. Then he’ll chase you. We’ll meet him at the finish and tell him it was a gag!
See, there’s nothing that we, your loyal readers, won’t do for you!
+1 on the Valour IT Fundraiser! Even if you can’t give a lot, still give. I gave $10 which is what I can give today as my family and I are squeaking through the last week of November to payday.
I normally support the Army team, but today I gave my $10 to Coast Guard!!
I’d love to see Coast Guard get some more donations…
Well I get to relax today. We celebrated yesterday as we always do since my husband never has Thanksgiving off. Everything was delicious, especially our guest of honor, the turkey. The kids and I had a giggle fit during my husbands turn with the prayer. Each has a turn, my husband goes last, one started giggling then we all did and couldn’t stop. My poor husband, he works so hard and here we were laughing at him while he was giving thanks.
What a great meal, the symbol of what we are all so thankful for, a loving family, a warm home, and good food. It doesn’t get any better.
God Bless All of you, our troops, and this great country and Happy Thanksgiving.
Just finished the fried turkey. Last night I prepared cornbread dressing, praline yams, green bean cassarole, baked mac & chesse, pecan pie, pumpkin pie and fruit salad. Family members are just starting to arrive. God Bless you all and Happy Thanksgiving.
I can’t top this: head over to the Calculated Risk and read about Tanta’s Mortgage Pig.
And for those of you with Excel or a workalike such as Open Office, take a look at the highly recommended (by me) “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Pig”.
I’m offended by the use of the letter “T” in the name of this thread. The letter “T” is offensive to some people. I think the title should just stay blank so it doesn’t offend ANYONE.
In fact we shouldn’t sing Christmas carols this year either! We should just hum in one note so no-one gets offended.
We’ll appoint a panel to determine which note would best represent all cultures equally, and properly communicates that Western imperialism is the source of all unhappiness and oppression, and that Santa used to be a slave owner.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
I am wishing all of my fellow readers and posters the joyous of holidays on this special day.
No sarcasm or politics, just a mouthful of tasty food and a full belly.
Enjoy your after-dinner naps.

Not only is there no such office, the candidate known as Barack Hussein Obama II (also known as Indonesian citizen Barry Soetoro) is not President-elect.
The Presidential election is December 15th. There will not be a President-elect until that vote is held and certified.
If one of the multiple lawsuits challenging his citizenship status (three of which are on the Supreme Court docket) finds that he is not a Natural Born Citizen of the United States, he will not only fail to be elected, he will likely be tried for a multitude of crimes.
Obama slipped up when he bragged about having visited Pakistan in 1981. American citizens weren’t allowed to travel to Pakistan in 1981. If Obama used an Indonesian passport, when he was over 18 years old, then he renounced his U.S. citizenship.
Many believe that he is currently an Indonesian citizen, and he is America’s First Illegal Alien U.S. Senator.
Yeah, Obama/Soetoro is “historic” alright.
Please pray for the truth to come to light, and for all corruption to be exposed, prosecuted, convicted, and prevented.
All members of Congress are sworn to support and defend the Constitution of the U.S. That (obviously) includes:
Support and defend our Constitution

YUM!
Enjoy the day and GOD bless you all.
Watching the ‘Boys de-feather the Seahawks. Happy Thanksgiving!
Michelle, I’ve used the “run only when chased” line for years – glad to know I’m in good company.
We ate early and enjoyed the sheer joy of watching our kids run around outside (nice mild day in Florida). I am grateful and thankful for my family and for knowing that we live in the greatest country and many others share that belief. While I may be bummed about the election – life and it’s everyday moments are precious and still wondrous. And that is what I chose to focus on.
Thank you MM – for all that you do. May this next year be blessed and happy for you and yours.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
Mrs Glockomatic and I are just on our way out the door for our annual Thanksgiving feast at Benihana’s — filet mignon and lobster tail is the only way to go!
Here is something that I would bet Michelle will be thankful for:
Strickland was found guilty of 5 of 6 counts for the Poutre abuse.
http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2008/11/jury_finds_jason_strickland_gu.html?category=Crime&category=Westfield
“SPRINGFIELD – A Hampden Superior Court jury Wednesday found Jason D. Strickland guilty of permitting a serious brain injury to be caused to his stepdaughter Haleigh Poutre in a case that drew national attention and caused an overhaul of a state agency.”
Just finished polishing off our stir-fried tofu, rice and veggie dish.
I might be a right-wing gun nut, but I’m a vegetarian right-wing gun nut!
(went out for a Starbucks, too!)
The episode of ‘Conservatism 2.0′ is pretty amazing to watch. We just sat through two years of Republicans and conservatives hyperventilating and pants-pissing because Obama was going to be some sort of crazed, radical, free-wheeling liberal that wanted to socialize all aspects of society, and now you’re telling us that it’s not so bad after all? Could that be any more self-discrediting? Republicans from all quarters spent the entire campaign fretting over Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers, that seems to be much ado about nothing at this point, doesn’t it?
Yea! Another vegetarian here. My husband and I came out to beautiful Colorado (from GA) for some early season skiing and will head out for a nice meal soon.
I am so thankful to live in this great country, to be protected by such strong and brave armed forces and thankful for blogs like this one to learn and sometimes vent in.
Thank you too Michelle and God bless us everyone!
Another day, another cheap shot from Digshot. We’re glad you’re so happy and thankful for something today.
Think about this, Euell Gibbons was famous for eating fruits and nuts. Dr. Robert Atkins created Atkins Diet. They are both dead (64 & 72).
To those people who eat “healthy” and drink “healthy” and exercise “healthy” I say this … one day you are going to be in the hospital dying of NOTHING.
We never said that.
Happy Thanksgiving Digshot.
Just sending out the last of our family from Thanksgiving Feast! Wow. Food! Just felt the need to give seasons best wishes and blessing upon all of you, and upon our Great Nation for the coming year. Don’t ever forget; Faith, Family, and Freedom is always worth the Fight. God Bless Us Every One!
Happy Thanksgiving to my American Friends!
Dateline: Pikeville, KY,
A local man swiped two large hams from a local Food City today. Store employees said the man stuffed the 2 hams down the back of his pants.
Police said to be on the lookout for the “Thanksgiving Ham Bandit”, a heavy-set man with a dark gray jacket and his accomplice, a dark haired man wearing a blue sweatshirt. The men were said to be driving a white pickup.

Nothing like a vigorous lightsabre duel with one’s niece and nephew to help burn off plates 1 and 2.
Who’s ready for a sandwich?
Had a great Thanskgiving despite the fact my wife was under the weather, so I did all of the cooking and washing.
My son and girl friend arrived to show us the engagement ring. She is a great young lady, so I feel blessed. My son sure should feel that way.
My 91 year old mother had a great day. When you have a parent that age you savour every holiday you can have with them.
A blessed Thanksgiving to you all.
My wife prepared a wonderful murdered tom turkey, as wll as many wonderful sides which were shared by my WWII Vet father in law, mother in law, sister in law, mom and dad-in law’s rescue puppy Sebastian and OUR rescue puppy Marco.
We’ll recycle the leftovers either by eating them or adding them to our compost pile (only veggies), and Thank God for a wonderful meal shared with family and pups, and pray for our wonderful and gallant troops as they fight against the fanatical Islamists.
May the Good Lord watch over us all, especially those who place themselves in harms way to protect their country and their fellow countrymen. A Blessed Thanksgiving to all!
Happy Thanksgiving, Michelle. I’m no fan of running/jogging, either. Bicycling is more my speed, subtle pun unintended (yet recognized and duly acknowledged). I hope the day’s been memorable for you and your family.
I had chicken instead of turkey. Still in the poultry category, at least.
I’m thinking about doing the Black Friday early morning thing, which I’ve never done before. Not sure where I should start, though. I have to review the ads one more time. I only have a handful of people on my CHRISTmas list (capitalization intended and needlessly self-acknowledged), and it’d be great to knock the list out right away. I’m hoping the mob’s rudeness factor will be at a minimum, but I’m not holding my breath. There’s always online shopping if what I’m looking for sells out at the stores.
And Happy Thanksgiving to those who have actually ever read my comments on this site. If you haven’t read what I’ve written, then you’ll never know I left you out, unless someone were to tell you I left you out, which would be pretty pathetic, wouldn’t it? At least as pathetic as this comment I’m leaving now. Take care, everyone.
I’m curious as to how Obama can use this Seal of the Office of the President Elect when the Electoral College doesn’t meet for more than 2 weeks yet?
Since it is the Electoral College that elects our President, at this moment, Obama is still legally just a candidate.
What an ego!
I want to give thanks for our Michelle, who over the years has weathered a slew of detractors yet still stands by her convictions and brings us the truth.
I also want to give thanks for Alton Brown whose recipe for brining and roasting turkey has only increased the pleasure I receive from Natures Most Perfect Food: turkey.

You’re going to have to at least have a chord. Too many people have trouble finding a particular note. Of course, with a chord, you’re going to have to figure out whether it is only to be sung, or on what instrument it is to be played. Of course, then you have a cultural problem with that, plus will have to consider which scale to use.
Hmm. We may be back to one note–at least until the United Nations can get enough conferences and treaty meetings together to decide this delicate issue.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. From reading the posts, I think we did.
Give Dig Dug a break. After all, people are eating his ilk today.
Great Thanksgiving! My favorite meal of the year. I’m a mostly vegetarian… but I refuse to be on this day or Christmas. I wonder if I ate part of the bird that was offed in Palin’s interview? MMMMmmmm.
PatriotRider –
(careful though, PETA might get you for insulting turkeys!)
Just spent the day with the people I love most in the world. I am truly thankful! Also, a full belly brings on my gratitude like nothing else can. Having said that, tomorrow I will be back on my diet. I really will! Yes, tomorrow. I mean that.
Happy Thanksgiving! Spent with family. Found out there’s a new baby on the way (my cousin) another cousin is due at Christmas. Happy days!
Mango/pineapple pie for breakfast. Pumpkin for lunch and for dessert, pumpkin pie with espresso. Just went 3-0 in the football pool with some great friends from all over the country.
Life is good. Having another piece of mango/pineapple to celebrate.
Yo AJ, Bear1909, Feebzy, QT and DL!
I pray all of our friends here are doing well.
For those of you who never wish Michelle and the rest of us a Happy Turkey Day:
May the flees of a thousand camels infest your arm pits.
Began cooking at 0500 when I made my very first from scratch pumpkin pie utilizing the pumpkins we carved at Halloween. I made sure to scrape out the inside meat when doing so and put it in the freezer. I then got the creamed cucumbers going, followed by a trip to WalMart as one of the bags of bread crumbs I use for my grandmother’s stuffing failed to have a spice packet in it and I was out of savory. While there, picked up a new set of glasses for less than 10 bucks.
Walked home with my middle daughter in tow, finished the stuffing and prepared the bird. I should mention the girls got up at 0900 in time for the annual watching of the parade while the girls help dad cook. It has become a cherished tradition that the two youngest ones look forward to.
Finished the stuffing and put the bird in the over, following the two yongest ones stuffing it themselves for the second year in a row, and put it in the oven by 1130. While my three daughters cleaned and prepared the table and such for the company we had coming, I went and rested my back for an hour and a half. Then, off to WalMart again as one of the glasses was cracked. (Helps to live 150 yards or so away). Finished the rest of the dishes and preped them for the oven when the bird came out (22.97 pound Butterball), hopped in the shower and started the spuds at 1530. Company arrived shortly after and while I hurried about the kitchen, my old high school friend, the doctor, kept me company with his wife, happy that I banned him from touching anything.
The dinner was supposed to be served at 1700, and sure enough, it was carved and we started the prayer, (yes…we actually do that, at least on Thanksgiving) exactly at 1700…a first.
Dinner was outstanding, and it was the most absolutely perfectly moist turkey I have ever made. Dinner itself was actually the best, and while I have been too stuffed to have my piece of pie, it sits in the fridge awaiting me, and everyone else said it was excellent, cementing a new tradition for my daughters and myself.
While it was not exactly he Thanksgiving I had been hoping and praying for, I was very thankful that I had my three perfect, wonderful, loving daughters with me, by my side, all pulling together to make sure it all was done…and not a single argument or whine between them…another first.
I hope and pray everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving, and that the next year will bring even more for everyone to be thankful for. When all else fails, when you think there isn’t anything, just remember, ou are alive, breathing and able to see the sun rise and set on this day. Someone, somewhere, loves you and is thinking of you, and if nothing else, God does love us…even if he appears to sometime have a really screwed up way of showing it.
Happy Thanksgiving Michelle and all the rest of you. And yes, I am thankful as well, to be able to share thoughts and conversations with ALMOST all of you. Two or three…not so much.
God bless all of you and see you after the food coma wears off.
Hi, tamarah180 #25! What can I say? You left “Governor Ahnald” land for something better and your destination turns blue on you. Major bummer. Yeah, we feel the pain, too. No accounting for the majority of the state that’s conservative. In ‘06 they not only turned the state over to a Dem gov., but both state houses over to Dem control, too. Not a good scenario for CO. Praying for major remorse to set in by the next election cycles and a return to sanity. Well, we can dream anyway! Welcome to the “Purple Mountains Majesties”. The beauty of the surroundings, whichever way you look, helps soften the political realities. Hang in there!
Floyd
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I’m grateful for every blessing I have, and I thank God that despite its flaws, we live in the greatest nation on the planet.
Gotta unfortunately keep a close eye on those wackjobs in Mumbai, as well looking suspiciously at those new BFFs Dmitry and Hugo. Perplexing times, to be sure.
I don’t know what the big deal is about Mumbai. After all, according to the Liberals, there is no Islamic threat, and to say so simply means that you are an Islamophobe and are racial profiling.
Haven’t you people heard? They are the “Religion of Peace”. Mohammed is a profit of peace and the Loran is the holiest of holy books and only preaches peace and carried with it a peaceful message of love and acceptance for all religions and people.
I mean, has everyone here drunk the Bush Kool-Aid and actually bought into this? It is so obvious that this is nothing more than a Karl Rove trick, perpetrated by the CIA in an attempt to have Bush overthrow the Government, destroy the election, have Obama thrown out and declare himself President for Life.
I mean, after all, if you guys are going to go around spreading these lies and rumors, well I just don’t know what to think anymore.
Sandy Bergler perpetuates a holiday tradition…
(looks at clock…)
Man, that was one long turkey nap!
Happy Thanksgiving/Black Friday all!
Had a great turkey day with my wife. Watched some football and enjoyed the day. Though I was supposed to work Thanksgiving, at the last moment, I was told to “take the day off and enjoy”. Back to work, though, today. I tried shopping once, on a Black Friday. Learned my lesson well…don’t! Not worth the lines and hassle. Getting to work this morning, ought to be pretty easy. Going home will probably be tough, with all the shoppers out and around. Hope everyone’s Thanksgiving was a good one. Be safe out there, Black Friday shoppers.
Happy Thanksgiving Michelle and Everybody else!
Please take time and also thank our President, George W. Bush. There is a reason why a Mumbai style attack did not take place till now on American Soil after 9/11. It is GWB, his team of resolute and ruthless advisers and the Patriot Act. India had a version of Patriot act called POTA (Prevention of Terrorist Activities) and they repealed it 4 years ago. Look what has happened since then. India had the largest amount of terrorist activities after Iraq and Iraq is at war.
I think the whole of our country should be thankful to Dubya and his team and not hate him like they do. I guess peace and cozy security creates complacency.
I hope and pray that Obama will realize how serious the threat of Islamic terrorism is and continue the security policies of Bush. America should support India, Israel and all the other countries that are victims of Jihadi terror. Our country should be the leader against terrorism and lead the world out of this menace.
Obama and the congressional leadership do realize how serious Islamic terrorism is. That’s why, right after the inauguration, they will travel overseas and set up “talks” with them.
Just a minor correction about T-Day. Here I described that the wife didn’t get giblets. Well, I found them when I went to carve the executed bird. I was told to throw them out and don’t tell anyone. Funny thing is, Mrs JohnnyD and her sister both looked and missed them. The Stone Gravy was pretty good too.
Plenty of leftovers today.
Went to a friends house for ‘dessert’ on Thanksgiving. My wife tried out the Wii for the first time..
this morning, she was looking up on-line if there were any Black Friday specials on the Wii..
I’m getting a Wii
woo hoo
This weekend my prayers go out to the men and women on the front lines. Somewhere in Afghanistan our men are eating MRE’s in a hole. Evening temps are already down to the 20’s (F).
It’s bad enough if you’re deployed to a base overseas, or a ship at sea. You’ll probably get turkey, and maybe even an eMail from the family – hardly the same as being home by the fire.
But to be up by the Pakistan border this weekend is really tough.
Pray for all of our troops, but the forward-deployed ones in particular.
You cannot talk nor reason with those that find death preferable and far more rewarding than living.
At that point, what can you offer them in the way of a deterrent?
With the Soviet Union, they were just as interested in preserving their country and the lives of it’s citizenry as we were, thus it was easy to talk to them and convince them that if they were to do anything stupid, we would wipe them off the face of the earth.
However, when you use the same methods with those who believe that to die fighting us would result in the carrying out of some sick, medieval sex fantasy, that will not work.
This is the fundamental point that Liberals do not understand. You cannot talk to nor reason with fanatics who view dying for their cause a blessing from their moon god.
Another example of moon god worship in Bombay.
Notice how when they attacked the Jews, they killed the women first.
ROPMA
Am I the only person who thinks the Mumbai attacks and the Somali pirates might be linked? After all, India was is the only country that has dared attack the pirates. Seems to me like a lot of the current piracy might be a money making scheme by al Queda.
I read elsewhere that the pirates who seized the Saudi oil tanker now fear for their lives because al Queda disapproves of their attacking a Muslim owned target.
I suspect the Obama presidency is going to revert to the same feckless approach to terrorism that defined the Clinton years.
My Thanksgiving:
GOOD: Went to my families home. Grandma, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and a Great Thanksgiving Meal
.
Alot of Family Fun and Goodness.
BAD: Toward the end of Thanksgiving… my father decided to talk about politics … he started accusing me of being a nazi and a facist because Im against illegal immigration and Im too Patriotic. I dont support everyone switching to electric cars in a year or two because having 300 million cars go from gas powered to electric powered in a year is insane. With no or very few new power plants being constructed how will we deal will the massive demand of energy without oil. Heck we cant even keep electricity running in the summer because Con Ed and other Electric companies cant deal with the electrical demand of Air Conditioners.
Anyway my father turned what was a friendly discussion to a deep argument with him spewing out curses and stating Im a nazi and facist … all the while my family watching.
How do you deal with people who turn amazing Holidays to political discussions?
I want to keep the two separate. Please let me know – JeanUSARMYGUARD@yahoo.com Thanks
Oh When I stated ‘Im Too Patriotic’ thats my fathers accusation.
Apparantly loving your country, serving in The State Defense Force and joining The Vol Fire Department is Patriotic and in essence not good.
The upside to this is that he brought you into the world…makes me wonder how long he has held these beliefs? You can’t choose your family, but you can choose how you respond. Stay strong.
I don’t suspect, I am confident that is what he will do. However, I think it will be far worse and even deeper indenial than the Clinton Admin. was. Add to that the simple fact that Hill-Dawg is going to be SecState and voila…you have one enormous catastrophe in the making.
I am stocking up on ammo, personally and am a bit upset that I cannot find the key to my trigger lock on my Mossburg. Call me paranoid all you want, but this election has played right into the hands of Islamic Jihad. this is the precise candidate that they wanted. They now know tey have “won” the war and are already feeling very empowered by it. Just look at what has happened in the weeks since the election. They think Bush has his hands tied and as a severly Lame Duck, will not act against the pirates, the India issue etc. Actually, so far they are correct.
Biden may be mocked for his comment about Dumbo being challenged, but he is not mistaken. he is not simply going to be challenged, he will be taken on full bore. They have not been sitting on their hands the last 7 years. They have been doing exactly what they do best…looking ahead, taking the future into account and biding their time until the Americans do something stupid like electing a leader who downplays their threat and will allow things to go back the way they were on Sept.10, 2001…but this time it will be even more so.
Um…how, exactly, is it possible for someone to be “Too Patriotic”? What exactly does that even mean? And how could anyone possibly think that could be an insult? I would wear such a moniker with pride, personally.
turning Holidays into political discussions is not such a bad thing.
I think you are missing the real issue. You ahve a father who treats you in such a manner, and who calls you such horrible things, yelling and screaming and attempting to degrade you in front of others. What he called you is not so bad as the fact that he did it at all.
Be proud of your beliefs and your morals. It is apparent that he was not the one you learned them from. You cannot choose your parents…only what home they get put in.
