Groan: 7.5 hours of smug San Fran mayor Gavin Newsom

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 2, 2008 12:36 AM

Hey, remember that judge who sentenced noise violators to Barry Manilow music? Here’s a worse sentence: Sitting through 7.5 hours of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom droning on and on and on about the “state of the city.” There are YouTube segments on health care, education, and the environment. But nada on the city’s infamously deadly illegal alien sanctuary policies.

He’s uploaded his entire speech on YouTube. Even his fellow libs can’t take it:

When San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom posted an epic State of the City speech on YouTube on Monday, reaction was mixed.

“Just what I wanted,” said Aaron Peskin, outgoing president of the Board of Supervisors. “Somebody imitating Al Gore for 7 1/2 hours. The guy did a Fidel Castro.”

…Supervisor Sean Elsbernd applauds the mayor for “a fantastic use of new technology.” But he also admitted he hasn’t watched more than 2 1/2 minutes and isn’t likely to view much more.

“Realistically, are the supervisors going to sit for 7 1/2 hours and watch this?” Elsbernd said. “No.”

A commenter cut to the chase — something Gavin Newsom seems constitutionally incapable of doing: “7 1/2 hours — plus the time spent writing, rehearsing and editing — could have been better spent solving the city’s problems instead of just talking about them.”

On an exceptional day it takes about a half hour to get across town from Hwy 101 in the south to the Golden Gate on the north side.

On the way you get to see the result of the great healthcare on the craggy-faced, dirty, smelly homeless folk who always seem to have money for drugs and smokes and wish they knew what day of the week it was.

You get to see the great environment each evening as the drug dealers and the homeless gather in Golden Gate park and each one marks his or her territory for the night–no foreclosures here; and the air wafts with the lack of personal hygiene mixed with marijuana and, well, other stuff.

The education system is: we’ll tell you how is and if you disagree then, Bang! Bang! “Adios, Amigo”, dump ‘um over the county line. The children are taught that promiscuous, reprobate sex with anything and everything is OK and to vote for Pelosi to keep the status quo.

Hey TRE, the earthquake was in 1906. A little history lesson for you-San Francisco has had a history of theatric mayors who have some, but less power than the Board of Supervisors. The Board has always been the local version of the Balkins with people carving up and protecting their own little turf. The western part of the city aka The Sunset has been and still is the home of the working class, originally the Irish now more Asian in population. There are several large parts of the city that are populated by the wealthy where you won’t see any homeless or drug dealers. Since the time of the goldminers in 1849, San Francisco has been a place for people looking for a fresh start, a do over if you will. To paint all of the people who live in the city as being just like Newsom is wrong. Many sons and daughters of laborers or dock workers still live here. There is a large population of recent Irish immigrants here, coupled with immigrants from all sorts of countries. Are the politicians her morons-yes. But, for people from other parts of the country who have equally moronic politicians representing them to look down their nose at this city is just plain ignorant.

I agree. I live in the Bay Area, and I often hear the smug “elitism” of the Bay Area progressives when they look down on the hicks in Middle America or the rednecks in the South.

Hey, Bay Area, you can be full of pride regarding your progressive thought and politics, but look in the mirror. Many of your neighborhoods are segregated and violent; many of your schools are segregated, violent, and failing; and the disparity between rich & poor is as extreme in the Bay Area than any other place in the US.
