Another Mormon run over by the anti-Prop. 8 mob’s bus
You remember Marjorie Christoffersen.
My friend Diana West first alerted me to her plight in the aftermath of Prop. 8’s passage. Christoffersen is the Mormon restaurant manager of the El Coyote restaurant in Los Angeles who committed the sin of donating $100 to the traditional ballot measure. Her individual donation spurred an angry mob of gay activists to picket the cafe, threaten employees and patrons, and bully the business into contributing a payment to make the mob stop.
Now, in the wake of resignations by LA Film Festival director Richard Raddon and California Musical Theater director Scott Eckern, Christoffersen has joined these other Mormon voters in quitting her job over her support of Prop. 8.
Gay groups are doing a happy dance.

I’m waiting for them to come after me.
The more people cave in to their bullying tactics, the more of these tactics we’ll see. What I really want to see is someone who stands up to them forcefully, but I’m pretty sure I won’t because even if someone does, there will be no reports of it as such. If it’s reported at all, it will be evil Prop. 8 supporters victimizing the poor innocent gay activists.
Where I come from that’s called extortion.
The implications of this shakedown go way beyond the boundaries of Prop 8.

I was wondering where to take my ski trip for this year….Colorado, New Mexico, or Utah? Because of this insanity, I will now be visiting beautiful Utah and Salt Lake City with its wonderful nearby ski resorts. And I’ll be sure to patronize every Mormon business that I can while I’m there…

I feel sorry for Miss (Mrs.?) Christoffersen. And all over $100, legally earned and given in accordance with her Constitutionally protected religious freedom, in a multi-million dollar campaign. I hope she finds a lawyer who can sue the right people for damages–and win. D*mn extortionists and terrorists.
Isn’t what they did extortion? and why aren’t these victims fighting back in court? In this case, after all if there was such disruption at the restuarant where this woman works at, and the disruption stopped when she paid money to someone, that someone got that money by extortion and that is illegal…

The more this kind of thing happens, the better the advertising campaign gets next time this goes up for a vote. I say that because with Jerry Brown as the lawyer on the Pro 8 side, it’s bound to be overturned and there will be yet another ballot issue.

Seems like politicians of all stripes should be standing up against this bullying. I thought full disclosure of political donations was supposed to be make politics cleaner. I’m less likely to donate to any campaign if public disclosure puts me, my partner, or my employer at risk for intimidation.
Isn’t this sort of intimidation a violation of a person’s civil rights punishable under federal law? Any lawyers here?
If you look at a sheriff’s office website listing of local perverts, you usually find a cite of state statutes making it a crime to use info from the website to intimidate or harass. Is the same not true for public records of political donations?
You know what really drives me nuts? When idiots win by picking on a 77-year-old woman. Or that lady in Palm Springs carrying the cross. How big and masterful you are, you hypocritical gay jerks. Way to poison the well. There will be other confrontations, and you won’t get any sympathy, support or pity from the people you are now offending.

At the time Prop 8 looked like an unfair and improper waste of ballot time. I guess I’ve known too many quite decent gays and not the more usual self-destructive idiots.

Does anyone here remember the liberal outcry during the Clinton years over abortion protestors who stood near PP and other clinics and handed out literature or admonished young ladies to consider all of the alternatives, including adoption? I believe that RICO was enforced on some groups to shut them down. At best they were forced by federal judges to stay several hundred feet away and not block sidewalks or such.
How does that compare to these thugs causing damage and seeking payments thru harrassment and extortion? How come private citizens are allowed to be harrased and protested against for supporting a legal ballot initiative? Where is the AG’s offfice?
