There is probably a good reason why we don’t know how much money the government has printed in the last year.
All you have to do is read the first two pages and “FALSE PREMISE” jsu leaps out at you.
Fine. I’m still not going to buy any American autos unless, like the Mustang and Challenger retro’s, they make a retro-LTD or Fleetwood Brougham.
Unprecedented fiscal and political incompetence.

The dollar amount to be
borrowedprinted.I’d like a retro ‘55,’56,’57 Bel Aire or a retro ‘69 Camaro. A retro ‘59 Cadillac would be nice, too. Any of those would make me look good cruising on Route 66.
I’ll bet there is no “don’t come back to us for more” clause in the bailout. Given the gigantic hole that the Big3 are in, I don’t see how $15 billion is going to do much more than delay the inevitable for a few more months or even a year.
Most if not all of the problems the Big3 have now will be there for the foreseeable future: lackluster product line, sky-high production costs, and suffocating union contracts. None of these problems will be fixed by giving them $15 billion. Indeed, by keeping them alive with a financial respirator, it may hurt their ability to negotiate with the unions for drastic cutbacks on benefits, etc.
And here’s a sobering thought that not many people have been focusing on: if the Big3 can’t compete against the Japanese and Korean automakers now, how much worse off will they be when the Chinese and Indian automakers finally arrive in the USA?
Where were the bailouts in the mid 1980 for Houston Texas took a big hit on the Oil Industry down turn? Oh, I forgot Oil is Evil and Unions (once?) controled by Crime Lords are Good…
Actually, I’d like a ‘69-’73 Opel GT to look good in, but:
1.) Not American made.
2.) Can no longer fit behind the wheel.
If I were one of the big 3, I think, after reading the draft, going bankrupt would be much easier. Who in their right mind would want all those restrictions and regulations? If they think they’re in trouble now, wait until they try to comply with this pile of %^$# draft.
This is the convergence of Incompetence.
Incompetent CEO’s who ran their companies into the ground, being lectured and dictated to, but a group of incompetent senators and congressmen who have run America’s Economy into the Ground. In this whole mess..is there anyone involved who has been successfull at ANYTHING?
What a mess. Are the competent automakers exempt from this?

This whole thing is potentially Dead on Arrival. Look no further than Pg 3 Lines 10-14.
“Preserves the jobs of 355,000 workers in the United States directly employeed by the automotive industry…..”
It further states that the 4.5 Million industry related jobs be equally protected.
DUH, There has to be a headcount reduction or there is no way this thing has any chance at all. Management whould be looking at somewhere around a 50% force reduction and a 30-40% cut in union labor.
At this point if the union balks tell them quite simply, fine, do what you have to do, cooperate, strike, whatever, but pink slips will be out in 2 to 4 weeks.
Suppliers need to come forward with equally forceful cost cutting showing a desire to continue as suppliers. Supply Chain Management takes on a whole new meaning in this new environment. Incidently, so does Union Relations.

It looks to me like big union saving document.
You forgot to mention the new sub has a launch on grounding safety feature for the nukes.
I too noticed the lack of dollar figures. I also noticed the need for oversight here being covered by creating a new government position (at a pretty good salary I would imagine) that is connected with either the finance industry (read bank bailout ala Paulson) or someone familiar with the auto industry i.e. someone close to the current big 3 upper management.
Either way, it’s going to be a big loss for the taxpayer.
And what’s the point of owning securities in a valueless company?
Unless Romney is the President’s oversight guy, he’s familiar with the auto industry, finance and salvaging a poorly managed entity (Salt Lake Olympic). So obvious he won’t be the first choice of President Rino bush or Leftist elect B.O.
We’re screwed again.

Patterns are emerging.
You can’t solve the problem with the same minds and entities that created the problem.
I ‘like’ how congress nicely placed ‘overseeing’ this disaster firmly into the hands of the president. Clearly, they recognize that they are not competent in the automobile business. I suspect that the president will feel the same way, and will ‘demand’ that congress be responsible for the ‘oversight’.
This might be where the process gets ’stuck’.
Whew! Am I glad our incredibly competent Congress is able to step in and save the U.S. auto industry. I am sure everything will be fine now.
And guess what? W will go along with it.

I suggest a protest. Let you Congressmen and Senators know that you will never again buy a Ford, Chevrolet or Chrysler product if they go through with this, Send you intentions to your Congressmen and Senators.
It is your taxes paying for this. If you don’t like it protest it.
