Gird your loins for the UAW bailout fight; Update: White House says deal is “likely”

Yes, folks, it’s time to stand up and fight. The fix is in. Democrats and the White House have reportedly hammered out an automakers’ bailout plan.
The snort-worthy promise: More “oversight.”
Because, you know, Congress has proven so competent at providing “oversight” of all the other bailouts this year.
Make sure Sen. Richard Shelby knows you stand with him on filibustering the UAW bailout. Shelby’s comments on Fox News Sunday:
WALLACE: Let’s bring in Senator Shelby. You’ve been one of the leading critics of any bailout. From what you’re hearing — $15 billion, get them through until March, going to have an administrator who makes sure they keep their promises. Will you support that?
SHELBY: Oh, absolutely not. I think this is a bridge loan to nowhere. This is a down payment on many billions to come. This is not something that happened overnight. This is 30 years in the making. These companies basically are — have failed, are failing. They probably need, according to some people, about 60 percent of the management to go, and about 40 percent downsize of the workers. They’ve got to compete. They can’t compete today. And the question is, will they be able to compete tomorrow?
We would like to save them. But they’ve got to save themselves. And I don’t believe they’re willing to save themselves, because they could be restructured the right way. And they don’t want to do that.
WALLACE: Are you and other Republicans prepared to filibuster this bill?
SHELBY: Well, I would — I think we need to debate it. And that’s what filibuster is about. And this week would be a good time to do it. I hope that we will be able to have an extended debate on it. We’ll see what happens.
WALLACE: Do you think you have the votes to sustain a filibuster?
SHELBY: I don’t know. It depends what happens, what the — in the meantime, I know people want to get home for Christmas. They want to get out of here and come back, and — but what I fear, Chris, the first…
WALLACE: Sounds like you want to hold Congress hostage here, Senator.
SHELBY: The first — the first down payment is just the beginning. It’s an installment plan of billions and billions and billions. And we don’t know the end game.
The end game is here: End the bailout cycle now. Let them fail. Suck it up. Stop the handouts.

The vote will not even be close. It will take all of 2 seconds…
Angry?… Why would I be angry?
The electorate is getting exactly what they deserve.
the story over the weekend is that there are so many oregonians seeking food stamps the state needs more gubmint workers. we close down private businesses, and hire gubmint employees, and we get …. wait for it folks, it’s called socialism. we are now almost 50% of the people working for the gubmint with them wanting to take over health care (14% of the u.s.) and the auto industry (6% of the u.s.) great!
frank,
Don’t give up hope. Remember that God is in control. Things look bad now, but we’re going to make it.
We survived Disco didnt we?
Mostly…
Yes we have been moving that direction since the 30’s. But NO we are not yet. We will be soon and then you will learn the differance, then you will understand what socialism is.
We still get a lot of flashbacks, though.
The markets seem to like the Obama stimulus plan and the auto bailout. The majority of thinking Americans are putting their money behind their opinions that Obama’s plans make good economic sense.
Barney Frank on the transition: “Obama says there is only one President now, and that is Bush. I think he’s overstating the number of Presidents we have.” Translation: Bush is doing nothing, which is what he did when Iraq went bad, and what he did after Katrina.
Assuming you are an American. What are you going to do with your money (since you are not in the group you mentioned)?
Obama isn’t doing anything but making speaches right now. CONGRESS and bush are doing this. And we will not forget that.
In case you don’t know about the autoworkers’ incredible job bank, see how 12,000 UAW workers are paid to do crossword puzzles.
And these are 2005 numbers!!!

And the UAW wants MY money????
As Charlton Heston so aptly put it, “From my cold, dead hands!”
OT: This is amazing to me! Loony Obama advisor posted on the HuffPo today an entry blasting the left for criticising the chosen one. He listed the goals they all share. Hold your hats. One important goal is to END CLIMATE CHANGE. Yes, he did write END CLIMATE CHANGE. Who is the greek god of climate, and when was he selected to the chosen one cabinet? Reducing pollution might be a more reasonable goal for the next 4 years. Ending climate change might take 80 years, not 4 or 8!
The climate has been changing since air formed over this rock. We could kill every single human on this planet and remove every single polutant and the climate would STILL change.
Dumb ass liberals.
Well, eveyone can be a small part of that.
Quit building golf courses in Phoenix or Palm Springs.
Quit building Casinos in Las Vegas.
Quit planting trees in Denver or Colorado Springs (did you know there are NO natural trees there? They were all planted by settlers)
Quit putting out forrest fires
Quit writing your girlfriends name in the snow…
Don’t forget – God helps those who help themselves.
If I can get a small part of the $700B bailout package, I promise to help EVERY co-ed that tells me she is an actress or is just ‘working her way’ through Med School
Cadman, in my saying that, I wasn’t advocating non-action. We work in faith that God will prevail.
Cadman said (#107):
1. The reason for the bank bailout was to help ourselves, not the bankers. If banks collapse, the economy collapses with it.
2. The Bible has nothing against charity.
Anyone imagine a lib like franksalterego making such an argument?
And: up until a couple of months ago, weren’t leftards always decrying “corporate welfare”? One of Barack’s many already-reneged campaign promises was to tax Big Oil’s windfall profits, remember? Even though they have paid hundreds of billions of dollars in taxes.
Frank’s just another example of liberalism’s substitution of a finger-in-the-wind for principles.
And oh yes: that guy from Flint is so freaking clueless about how an economy works that he MUST be a UAW thug.
The election proved that the majority of, insert oppressed minority and hyphen here, Americans do not think.
Semper Fi!
Fixed it! My “bad”!
1. BS. It was all about helping bankers who made bad business decisions. There is no reason, zero, none, nadda, why a bank should ever go bankrupt. Which is why good banks stick around for generations and never need “bailout” money. They would have done the country a better service letting those poorly managed banks fail and letting the good ones thrive and sending that 700 billion into rebuilding wealth from the ground up rather than from the top down.
2. You quoting what the Bible does and does not say is rather hilarious. I suggest actually reading the whole thing and understanding context; does wonders.
These posts are, to be blunt, pointless.
The Dems and RINOs are in charge.
Those who are opposed to socialism can’t do diddly squat to keep it from being imposed on America.
alaskangrizzly (#114)
1. Read what liberals who wanted to bail out banks said. And what Republicans who wanted to bail out banks said. They said what I said — do it or the economy collapses.
2. Been there, done that (being Jewish, that means what you call the Old Testament). Do you think the Bible has something against charity?
Here’s a question for you: why was Bush so eager to bail out banks but against bailing out autos? I think it’s because he wants to destroy the UAW.
Yea pay off the union thugs keep their pensions solvent and then a little later in the new year they will come around and collect all our 401k’s to pay for it all. Who could of guessed?…I watched them steal the Soc. Sec. Moneys and why did I think it was safe to put money into a 401k? and after they steal that money they will set up another “SAFE” place to put retirement money….and people will put their trust and money in it again?….show the government a pile of money, and will all of the best of intentions they will take it and throw it away…..to bad I was kind of counting on that old 401k….dummy me….should have joined a union I guess
Unrelated Piece, but a piece on Justice that needs to be Remembered

Because he’s just as socialist as you (D)’s and the RINO’s who capitulated to the TARP bailout.
The auto bailout, if somehow structured as a loan, might be disgusting but halfway palatable. The bank bailout continues to be an outright theft of taxpayer money, and has done nothing to spur the economy. The idea that Bush opposes the auto loan because he wants to destroy the UAW is tin-foil stuff, and besides, it’s Frank and Pelosi trying to look all tough by grilling the auto execs and who will, no doubt, call for rigorous and perhaps unattainable conditions from the carmakers. Conditions for the bank industry? None.
And to top it all off, Tom Brokaw thinks we need to take this opportunity to raise the gas tax. Brilliant.
Here we go again. I will do my part and start contacting my Congressmen and those listed above like Shelby and McConnell. I hope ‘We The People’ get listened to this time.
At this rate Obama will be able to declare himself ‘Dictator for Life’ in about a year, as he will already have control of all of our manufacturing industries, banking & finance, and the markets, thru these senseless bail-outs. He will just have to figure a way to circumvent the military and our state ‘militias’.
Just great. The text mentions nothing that I could see of ANY concessions by the UAW. What am I bailing out a subsidiary of the DNC?
…and a COLA for judges. WTF?
So…Do you have any additional information from your nation wide poll? or did you just pull this out of your azz like most liberals do?
Here’s a free clue, Grizzly: banks stop functioning, the entire economy grinds to a halt.
Detroit stops functioning, the economy takes a big hit, but half the auto industry remains up and running and the rest of us get to keep working.
Get it? GET IT?
Cool. So you mean taxes are not really confiscatory, they are really a savings account to be drawn on when times get tough? I totally misunderstood what the tax system was designed to do. Thanks for the info. Next time I run into a rough patch paying my bills, I knwo where to go.
Yeah I get it, you’re just like the RINO’s who capitulate to socialism when they think it will “save the economy”. Yeah, cause we all know Socialism does wonders in saving Capitalism. The number of banks failing are not even close to the percentage of banks that went bankrupt in the collapse prior to the Great Depression. The banks doing a good job of not making piss poor business decisions would have been happy to buy out and take the customers of these failed banks. You know, the whole “free market system” we keep touting that will correct itself.
If you feel the need for more Socialist bailouts of private enterprises perhaps you should just do the world a favor and put a (D) next to your name. Save us all the confusion.
