The Barack Obama Holiday Express chugs on

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 9, 2008 04:40 PM

The guy who wants to declare the first Tuesday in November “Barack Obama Day” hasn’t given up. Apparently, Baltimore is next on the target list. From WBAL via Inside Charm City:

A civil rights activist from Topeka, Kansas said that America grew up on November 4, 2008 and looked past race and gender, and to recognize the significance of the election, President-elect Barack Obama needs a paid holiday in his honor.

Sonny Scroggins, who heads a group called Bias Busters of Kansas, wants to see the first Tuesday in November named Barack Obama Day.

“A lot of Third World countries, when they open their polls up and people go to vote for their favorite candidate, they get off,” he said. “One thing has always been since ‘69 to get more people involved in the electoral process, so this would be one way of increasing voter participation.”

Scroggins said he has over 5,000 emails from interested individuals across the nation and a number of those emails are from people in the Baltimore area.

He added with the inauguration coming up, he wants Obama supporters in Maryland to start forming coalitions now to start planning their own Obama Day promotions.

Scroggins, who also called himself a community organizer, said although Obama has not yet been in the position to show any presidential leadership skills, just the fact that he was a community organizer and activist qualifies him for a national holiday.

Obama fruitcakes for the holidays. Delicious.

Grew up? Spare me. Only if the candidate was a black leftist. This country proved it’s going backwards to Canadian-style oblivion. When we go down, the Canadians will follow us down the crap hole. As far as “significance” goes, we’ll see about that after the Littlest Sock Puppet gets indicted.

These mislead people will be certainly surprised when they realize he isn’t the Messiah…just another politican out for power and his own self-interests. A national paid holiday? He hasn’t done anything yet!! What an insult to those that worked hard for this country, and not for their own selfishness and lust for power. Even Washington has been replaced with a “pc correct” President’s Day.

I fully agree with everyone about an Obama holiday being obnoxious, but the idea of making election day a holiday is something I could support. We have a bunch of useless federal holidays, any one of which could be deleted to allow us a day off on election day. If more people had the day off it would ease congestion at the polls and make voting less of an inconvenience for working people. The current set up punishes the most productive people and when combined with ubiquitous media declarations of victory also convinces a good number that by the time they get off work there is no point in casting a ballot.
