NYT celebrates anti-Prop. 8 mob

Blogger Jane Q. Republican points to this NYT piece today heralding the anti-Prop. 8 activists on Day Without A Gay day.
Yup, the fishwrap of record whitewashes the anti-Prop. 8 mob. Some rage is not fit to print.

Wait, the NYT is publishing today?
Impossible. It’s call in gay day.
The the NYT is as queer a paper as can be.
Sorry MM, I know opposing viewpoints help us all become more informed and knowledgeable about the issues you discuss on this blog, but I refuse to add to the NYT’s traffic count by reading the linked article; I’ll just take your word for it.
Don’t know about the rest of you but so far here not one person has called in gay or anything else.
I’m having a great day! no gay day is OK!!
Everyone I work with, gay or straight, is here. Of course, I work with adults, not tantrum prone children.
I tried to call in gay and was told there were people lining up for my seat.
1. One doesn’t win favor among the People by not showing up to work during a recession.
2. If folks call in “gay”, then their employers should respond with a pink slip.
3. If these folks are looking to make waves by having their 2% of the population not show up to work, then so be it. The following day we’ll have a “call in straight” day to show the impact and resolve of the other 98% of the nation.
Did anyone actualy have anyone call in today? I am from Utah so its not likely anyone here will.
Well, Without a Gay Day should quell the Anti-Prop 8 attacks against the Mormons and Christians – at least for one day.
Of course that presupposes the idea that gays aren’t too apathetic about such as silly idea and decide to participate.
Pacific Justice Institute is on the case for those damaged by their support of Proposition 8. Read about it here and donate to them if you can.
I’ll bet San FranSICKO is like a ghost town today.
The NYT takes a liberal view on Prop. 8? Knock me over with a feather.
Not surprising. No one’s missing here. You’d think – seeing as Prop 8 opponents are so much smarter than us supporters of marriage – they’d be able to conclude that “Day without a Latino” was a flop. Didn’t they think this too would fail?

This is the exact argument I used with my friends, and they all cannot believe that I would “wimp out” on this.
And then they laid off 50 people where I work yesterday (economy related). Guess who all came to work today…
Along with Key Pest, Florida
“Calling in Gay” is just outrageous. If I call in straight and don’t show up for work, I would get fired. They want equal rights? Fire them and welcome to the club.
I’m looking forward to hearing some of the phone calls to employers. Could be good for a laugh or two.
If they want a ‘day without gay’,
Can we get them to go for a
‘YEAR WITHOUT QUEER’
I’m still trying to figure out what they’re really trying to accomplish with this. My guess is that anyone who doesn’t come in today because of their participation in the Day Without A Gay day already works at a place that caters to the gay community. So they’re not going in to work at places that are probably going to be closed today in support of them. This has no effect on the rest of the world.
Seems the desire to remain employed beats out making a statement – known gay people are working in the office here today.
If any of my line cooks call in gay, i’m putting it on speaker phone!
plants running fine, everyone here,so there is hydrogen for everyone. It didn’t work for the illegal marching this won’t phase us at all. How about we have a straight day walk out and see how that works out. Just think of the effect that would have. what 90% of Americans don’t show up for work, you’d have more people miss than people taking off for the holidays.
You rumpswabs have all been working extra hard overtime. Really, take the rest of the week off!
I won’t be calling in anytime soon, my company just announced wage freezes and other belt tightening initiatives. I guess the depression is really on.
‘PINK’slips for everybody
If you do anything to endanger your job right now, you are a complete and utter moron.
period.
Here’s how I see this: they are equating their gayness with sickness. I mean, how many of us call-in that we are not coming in to work if we are not ill, or that there isn’t another PROBLEM in our lives that needs out attention (assuming it isn’t a lie simply to avoid work).
If these gay-fascists want to do this, it only tells me that they are admitting that they are sick degenerate punks. If I were a boss at a workplace and this happened, I’d be compelled to tell them to make sure that they make sure they fix that gayness so it does not spread and effect anyone else.
10:41am here. So far I haven’t had to call any gays to help me out. So far so good.
The antidote: A Day Without Heteros’ Tax Payments.
A thought from the last topic:
Do gay activists have actual jobs with which to call in gay to?
I still don’t understand the logic of a ’sick in.’ I live in a state that didn’t vote against Prop 8, so this doesn’t affect me at all.
I support the rights of gays and lesbians to get married – if only to ensure they have equal rights with regards to being harassed by evil in-laws. However, you need to work within the system. You want to try this again – ok, look at why people didn’t want gay marriage and work on those reasons.
If you want to convince someone to subscribe to your viewpoint on a subject, you don’t harass them or call in sick or threaten them – you educate them as to why you believe in it.
I called in straight today by showing up for work early.
I heard that the traffic in West Hollywood is a lot lighter today….
Just don’t try to get your hair done today.
So far its business as usual where I work at and no one has called in gay today.
Call in gay today and maybe you get to hear Donald Trump’s famous words from the Apprentice “Your Fired”

Sorry about the previous link…Here it goes again.

Has anyone seen ANYBODY call in gay?
Not here…
Been on the clock since 5:30AM PST… but I’m a pretty atypical homodude anyway.
Situation normal!
Dear Homosexual Community,
Calling in gay is not required because I’m here, not queer, online 24-7-365, ready, willing, and able to serve. Besides, because of me, everybody knows who you are.
Sincerely,
gaydar
*out*
I haven’t heard anyone, school is scheduled for tonight and the
“Stonewall Tigers” glbt group at U of M has been quiet about it.

“This is Sparta!”
Contrary to what some might want you to believe, a Day Without a Gay didn’t have a lot of support in the Gay community as a whole. Most looked at it as silly and unproductive.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t an election give us all a voice? Isn’t that the definition of Democracy? Hold an election and accept the results?
Or maybe we should take the same approach to the Presidential election. Social upheaval until McCain is sworn in as President.
Or at least we could have a Call in Conservative day? Although I would prefer to wait until the weather gets better. I suggest Flag Day June 14. Should be a nice day to go fishing.
Was the pun intended there, Bay??
I’m hopeful the “Day without a Gay” is a smashing success.
Perhaps then they can build into a “Week Without a Gay,” “Month Without a Gay,” “Year Without a Gay,” etc, etc.
It would just be FABULOUS, dahling!
Well, it’s likely the film industry is in standdown.
“Lifetime without a Gay”? I don’t suppose anyone could arrange that one for me?
This damned paper can’t go bankrupt fast enough.
Agreed, redpeach. I’m looking forward to that day.
By the way, “Day without a Gay” was a big disappointment:

Ya think it might have been a bad idea to put politics before practicality in this economy? Never mind that “Day without a Latino” – which had greater notification and organization (I use that term loosely) was also a flop.
Just like “Don’t Buy Gas on Tuesday!” campaigns. It’s impossible to get a massive amount of people to something on such a large scale when, as individuals, the demands of such protests have potential consequences – like losing your job.
