Rahm-a-drama: “Beet red” and “pissed” with the MSM
Awwwww. Rahm Emanuel can’t stand the heat. So, he’s blaming the media. ABC News says he’s “beet red” and “pissed” that he can’t go anywhere without someone asking question about his role in Blago-gate.
It’s a hard-knock life:
The president-elect’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, said today he won’t go to the Chicago presidential transition offices in order to avoid reporters trying to ask him whether he had contact with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich about the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama’s election.
Emanuel appeared “beet-red,” according to an ABC News cameraman who was invited inside by Emanuel to use his bathroom this morning.
“I’m getting regular death threats. You’ve put my home address on national television. I’m pissed at the networks. You’ve intruded too much, ” Emanuel said, according to the cameraman.
A spokesman for Emanuel said he later showed up at the office, apparently able to sneak out of the house without being seen by reporters waiting to ask him questions.

Regardless of political affiliation, death threats are NEVER acceptable, and the response probably shouldn’t be simply to tell the person affected to “toughen up.” Yes, I realize this stuff goes on all the time, to politicians on both sides of the aisle (and, of course, to non-political public figures as well), but, that does not make it acceptable, or something to shrug off.
We should be working to elevate the political discourse in this country. It’s become a cesspool, and we are all worse off because of it.

There really isn’t much more to say.
The problem here is that these are democrats, and they’re not used to being badgered like this. Usually the dinosaur media is busy helping cover up. For some reason, they aren’t trying to cover up this time. I understand why the Chicago Sun Times is all over it, but I don’t get why all the others are, too.
But Rahm is mad because as a democrat, he’s not supposed to get found out and harrassed by the media.

If so the next 3-4 years might be somewhat entertaining.
I could understand the complaint that the press was horning in on a family event – a school concert his daughters were performing in that he was attending. There’s nothing to any of this that couldn’t wait an hour, especially when all reporters were on a level playing field.
But threats to continue evading the press is a huge mistake – there’s no other term for it than “stonewalling,” and even the most liberal reporter will react like a shark to blood in the water. It also raises the story from mildly titillating to front-page status.
Apparently, Rahm hasn’t yet learned enough about Washington politics to understand that you really want to be in the boat when you’re chumming, not in the water.
Gee, is the honeymoon over already? After a couple of years of nothing but fluff gaga “reporting” they’re actually, and finally doing their JOB.
You’re assuming Rahm is telling the truth about those death threats. This is not a safe assumption. He’s not a truthful man.
Also, as has been pointed out on this site, he IS a man who MAKES death threats (famously, while stabbing a knife into a table), as well as the kind of man who associates with unsavory people who make those threats and mean them (aka ordinary everyday Chicago politicians).
I know you’re trying to take the high road but in this particular case you may be aiming higher than is warranted.

Rep Emanuel should state with ultimate clarity that he is not open when he is at home, or with his family, and is only available when he is at the office.
This is a standard and accepted practice. Leave the home and the children alone. Then again Rep Emanuel, make yourself available and they would not be camping out in front of your house. That is also a standard and accepted practice.
