The Obamas: Nativity-crashers
President-elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are appearing in Italian nativity scenes this year, alongside the baby Jesus and wise men, according to Naples craftsmen selling figurines in the run-up to Christmas.
The production of handmade figurines for nativity scenes is big business in this southern Italian city and has been for centuries.
But beyond the thousands of angel, sheep, Mary and Joseph figures filling market stalls before Christmas, craftsmen say Obama has become a top seller.
“The ones we are selling the most of are those of Barack Obama, America’s new president, along with his wife Michelle,” said craftsman Genny Di Virgilio.

bluesoc (#20), now if the modern figurines are to expand the breadth of people there to honor and worship Jesus, that is another thing, and right. I just can’t see Obama in that mode.
Deuteronomy 4:25 “After you have had children and grandchildren and have lived in the land a long time—if you then become corrupt and make any kind of idol …you will quickly perish from the land …. 28 There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell.”
The worship or near-worship of the Great Obama as represented by these figurines is in the same pattern predicted in approximately 1400 BC.
Moses goes on in Deuteronomy, though:
29 “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
This Christmas, I pray that all of this will serve to create a spiritual revival and a cultural reformation in America.

Seems odd for The One to be at Jesus’ nativity while his own is in question. At least Jesus’ nativity is recorded in a non obscure section of the Bible.

If I recall this is when Israel went to the prophet Samuel and told him that they wanted a King. The end result was saul. Saul was a man of stature who had no integrity. An empty suite. Saul was later killed by his own greed and quest for power.

Everyone is making money off of PE Obama, except me. A store in Wash, DC recently opened specializing in Obama stuff. Hats, pins, coffee cups, etc. in preparation for the inaguration. Too bad PE Obama isn’t profiting from this because I certainly would. Wouldn’t you? I guess he is better than the rest of us.

Thats very disturbing and a insult.
My computer isn’t getting along with the video, but I get the impression that the Obamas are not replacing any figures in the Nativity. It sounds more as though it is an Italian tradition to add more figures, including modern ones, to look upon baby Jesus. It also sounds as though anyone popular in Italy is a candidate for this.
We already knew Obama was popular in Europe. Yes, the cult stuff around Obama is a little disturbing. But I don’t think this one is a new level or anything. I find the “Obama will pay my mortgage” bit more disturbing than this. Other candidates for more disturbing in my eyes are the apparent lack of information getting to much of the voting public and the tendency for the elite to stifle any and all criticism of Obama with cries that it is racist.
