An unhinged Iraqi journalist fulfills the dream of every MSNBC anchor and NYTimes editorial columnist by throwing his shoes at President Bush during an impromptu news conference in Baghdad.

Watch.

Thankfully, President Bush was not hurt.

***

Snort. Patterico writes: “I think I heard that Iraqi journalist scream ‘Don’t tase me, bro!’ as he got swarmed.”

Reader David: “Dear Michelle, It is amazing – with all the hoopla about the Secret Service – that a civilian Iraqi reporter, in Baghdad yet, could complete TWO violent shoe-tosses at President Bush without any molesting from his protective detail. In fact the only person who actually confronted, and in some sense “tripped-up,” the “protestor” was a fellow journalist. The Secret Service was no where to be seen. It appears from the video clip of the incident that they poured-out from a back door many moments after the shoe attack was finished. If this reporter form Cairo had had a gun, Bush would have been dead and probably from many bullet wounds. The man had a virtual eternity to manage his attack. The Secret Service was a disgrace! Argh! Are you as hopping mad as I?”

Kidnapped Iraqi reporter freed, says no ransom paid
19 Nov 2007 13:33:27 GMT
Source: Reuters
BAGHDAD, Nov 19 (Reuters) – An Iraqi TV journalist who was kidnapped last week in a busy Baghdad neighbourhood said he was released unharmed before dawn on Monday.

Muntazer al-Zaidi, a correspondent for the independent al- Baghdadiya television station, said he spent more than two days blindfolded, barely eating and drinking, after armed men forced him into a car as he walked to work on Friday morning in the bustling Bab al-Sharji area of central Baghdad.

“My release is a miracle. I couldn’t believe I was still alive,” Zaidi, 28, told Reuters by telephone.
Zaidi said the kidnappers had beaten him until he lost consciousness. They used his necktie to blindfold him and bound his hands with his shoelaces.

He never learned the identity of the kidnappers, who questioned him closely about his work but did not demand a ransom.

The captors later told Zaidi he would be released, throwing him on to a dark street, still blindfolded, around 3 a.m. (0000 GMT) on Monday. He was then picked up by his brother.

At least 122 journalists and 41 media support staff have been killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, according to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists. About 85 percent of those killed were Iraqis.

Some Iraqi journalists have been targeted by Sunni Arab militants or by Shi’ite militias. Others have been killed by U.S. forces while reporting. (Reporting by Waleed Ibrahim; Writing by Missy Ryan; Editing by Richard Balmforth)

Iraqi journalist hurls shoes at ‘dog’ Bush
Dec 14 02:36 PM US/Eastern

An Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes and an insult at George W. Bush, without hitting him, as the US president was shaking hands with the Iraqi premier at his Baghdad office on Sunday.
As the two leaders met in Nuri al-Maliki’s private office, a journalist sitting in the third row jumped up, shouting: “It is the farewell kiss, you dog,” and threw his shoes one after the other towards Bush.

Maliki made a protective gesture towards the US president, who ducked and was not hit.

The journalist, Muntazer al-Zaidi from Al-Baghdadia channel which broadcasts from Cairo, was frogmarched from the room by security staff, an AFP journalist said.

Predictable gloating in the left-wing blogo-cesspool.

Of course not. Typical moonbat playbook, denounce the other side as being in a “fantasy” when questioning the safety of the President when himself actually making up stuff that he doesn’t have a prayer of proving true because deep down inside even he knows Iraq is far more free now by leaps and bounds than they ever were under that murderous dictator Saddam. Which is why he is a deranged moonbat.

I’d love to see what would have happened if someone had thrown a shoe at Saddam Hussein at a press conference. I’m sure he would have just ducked and laughed about a size 10 shoe /sarc

But let’s look at this incident had it occurred a mere 6 years ago, before the American removal of the tyrant and despot who would have been making a speech from the same location.

I think it would behoove all the anti-Bush idiots as well as anyone who applauded or laughed at this freak to just think for one second what would have been the fate of said reporter then?

Would he even have been so “brave” to have attacked Hussein? Would he have been treated similarly following this attack on the man who deposed the tyrant had it actually been made on the Tyrant?

This Obama supporter, and yes, I will use that term, should be sitting where ever it is he is sitting right now and be thinking about the fact that had this been 6 years ago and he had done a similar thing to the Despot that Bush has deposed, he would not be “sitting” anywhere, but instead, were he to still be alive at this moment, he would more than likely be in a room somewhere in Baghdad with his wrists trussed up behind him, hanging from the ceiling being “Put to the Question”.

And al the BDS’ers should realize that as well, that 6 years ago, this attack would NEVER have taken place out of fear of reprisals against the person, his family, and his family’s family.

Thank you President Bush. For all your faults, especially reccently, you at least did not back down from those that had been backed down from for the 8 years previous to your inauguration.

Once again LGM shows his ignorance of the truth. LGM when will you learn that the MSM is not telling the whole story about Iraq. When will you learn it is much better to talk to troops that have been there. I cant count the number of times that I was personally thanked by the Iraqi people in 2004 when I was here with the military and it is still going on today. On the Today show this morning, there were several commenters about this, one of whom was a man named, “Ghazi”, a fellow journalist in Iraq who was seated a couple chairs down from the shoeicide bomber. When Meredith asked for their comments, he went first and, much to her disappointment, said that the other journalists all went up to the President afterward to apologize and inform him that this one man does not represent the views of other journalists in Iraq and was an afront to their sense of hospitality toward the President. Oh, this did not please Meredith or particularly Chuck Todd, who proclaimed this to be a national indictment of Bush and his policies in Iraq. To no avail, Ghazi stood his ground that this was a kook who acted alone.

If one madman throwing a shoe at Bush demonstrates that the Iraqi people oppose Bush, would one snowball thrown at Obama’s motorcade during the inauguration show the election was rigged? Or would that be a really stupid comment? Talk amongst yourselves.

It looks like the Iraqi journalists are learning how to be fair and unbiased just like their American counterparts. The next step is to learn how to throw their shoes metaphorically instead of physically, like Helen Thomas and crew.

What struck me was how cool Bush was when he spotted the shoe-thrower winding up. He ducked just enough to let the shoe fly by and didn’t even duck when he saw the second shoe miss. I recognize an experienced dodgeball player when I see one. I put it to you, fellow Americans, does this incident not make the case that dodgeball in our schools is a vital component of our national defense?

I’m not so shocked that the Secret Service did not block this attack. By the time the journalists got into the same room as Bush, they have been searched up the keester for weapons. There’s very little chance an assailant will be able to smuggle a gun or knife into the same room as the president unless he has help from a very professional intelligence service.

I don’t see the need for the Secret Service to retool for a shoe-borne attack. I’m just happy the Bushster got a chuckle on his way out. He’ll probably bronze those shoes and put them in his office at the ranch in Crawford.

It’s amazing how those responsible for making Iraq a better place in the process, are held in contempt instead of praise for enabling an environment where this shoe-tossing idiot won’t be disemboweled and left on his family’s doorstep.

Too bad George didn’t kick his ass.

President Bush showed remarkable calm and statesmanship during this idiotic shoe-throwing incident. Leave it to LGM and the MSM to make hate the issue and ONCE AGAIN try to show our President as being stupid. Loved the dodge and shoe size comment….voted for him twice and would do it again if he were eligible.
As for “I love my country” #134. Puhleeze..stop believing the left’s polls and MSM reporters. Speaking of dumb people – you’re probably also a shoe thrower.

This is what should worry Barry Obama the most. Up till now, the Secret Service has done its job in preserving Bush’s life at a time when he is so loathed.

So, they want this alleged reporter free because he has freedom of speech.

This is not a freedom of speech issue. At the moment this idiot took a violent action of aggression, he ceased to be a reporter and became an assailant. A criminal.

What is it with these panzie journalist that will sue if you even touch their camera when it is six inches from your face preventing you from seeing where you are going. They claim that is freedom of the press, bullcrap. Now they claim violent attacks on people they disagree with are freedom of speech. What is next, trampling someone to death at Walmart is a right of assembly?

MSM, no facts, no truth, no justice, no integrity, and now they want the right to assault people they disagree with. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

If there was ever an incident that said, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED this is it. That reporter would have been a stain on the wall at Abu Graib had he done that before 2003. The fact that he felt safe enough to do it manifests how free Iraq has become.

I remember in 1992 we had been air dropping humanitarian rations to the Kurds in Northern Iraq there was a news report that the Kurds were complaining about the MRE’s they were receiving. The Air Force general in charge was elated. He said, “When we start to get complaints about the MRE’s, we know we are getting them enough to eat.”

I do not condone an assault on anyone, especially the President, but that reporter and all the BDS affilicted out there need to understand that the man he threw the shoe at is the one who deserves the credit for his ability to throw and shoe and survive the incident. Irony!
