A bad situation keeps getting worse:
U.S. anti-kidnap expert kidnapped in Mexico
Mexican gunmen have kidnapped a U.S. security consultant who negotiated the release of dozens of kidnap victims in Latin America.
Gunmen abducted Felix Batista outside a restaurant last Wednesday in the relatively safe northern industrial city of Saltillo in Coahuila state, Mexican authorities and his employer, security consultancy ASI Global, said on Monday.
Batista, a Miami-based Cuban American credited with negotiating the release of victims abducted by Colombian rebels, was snatched after he stepped outside the restaurant, answering a call on his cellular phone, Mexican media said.
The U.S. embassy in Mexico City said it was investigating and declined to comment further.
“He may have been targeted by organized crime in an attempt to show their power. Saltillo is not a kidnapping hot spot,” said a source at Coahuila state attorney general’s office.

Shouldn’t we send the military after they are done with Iraq straight to Mexico. We have a legitimate reason to go into that country, as the lawlessness there is spilling over our borders.
Not much of an expert I guess. I am with everyone else. Lets keep the chaos SOUTH of the border and enforce that with the us army.
What a third world crap hole. The US is flooded with illegal aliens doing the crime Americas will not do.

not only is the violence spilling over it is killing Americans in the entire nation via drugs and drunk driving….yes more Americans die every year from the negative results of illegal immigration and drugs than have died in Iraq….but yet libs protest the war…guess their too busy supporting the drug dealers or employing illegal aliens??
I know this is about Mexico, but just to jump on this, the same thing is happening in Argentina.
According to my relatives, it has been getting worse in Buenos Aires within the last year (BUT it’s been everywhere, according to my relatives who live on both ends of the country – North and South)
One of the new “kidnapping” schemes in place is for the perp to wait for the victim to hail a cab…then jump in and to offer to split a cab with them (taxi driver usually in on it too) and drive the person off and either rob them there, make them go to their house…rob them THERE and their home, or kidnap them for randsom.
Business as usual I suppose.
Oh we did such a good job trying to rescue Daniel Pearl… you really think we can get this guy back? As long as folks are afraid of Guantanamo, Blackwater and such….. we have no hope. Oh, and please refrain from telling me about security and freedom being mutually exclusive. Benjamin Franklin never said it!!!!!!

These experts are just people with book knowledge of how these things look. Anyone can fall prey to a good scam if you let your guard down.
Never go to the same restaurants frequently, don’t talk on the phone until you’re somewhere safe (preferably your hotel room, and never assume you aren’t a target. Those are the rules, especailly in Mexico.
I just hope he’s released soon, and safe.
Well, certainly glad that’s cleared up. Who else could it have been? Oh yeah, the corrupt police or military. Good thing we only sent $1.6 billion.
When the boys come home, we can put the CAV on the southern border to seal it. After multiple tours in Iraq, smoking drug dealers should be a breeze and turning back illegal immigrants will be a picnic. “Hey, Bobby! See the guy with the AK? Take him out!”

FamilyMan all you have to do is look at the local news in the Southern part of Idaho and a disproportionate amount of captured criminals have hyphenated Spanish surnames (which is a pretty good indicator of questionable citizenship). Last week the Elmore Country Sheriffs Office captured two murder suspects fleeing their crime from Washington at a Chevron station just off I-84.

My sister-in-law lives in Southern California. She reports that over 50% of all crimes are committed by illegal aliens, but make up less than 7% of the population.
No other country in the world would put up with this on their border. If North Koreans were causing this much chaos on China’s border, China would warn Pyongyang to clean it up or they would send in troops to do it for them. I imagine Pyongyang would do it without handout money from China. Why does Mexico City get to soak up our contributions when obviously they cannot or will not clean up their northern border?

you’re right red pill, sow just didn’t look right, because i kept seeing large pigs, but sew didn’t look right either, but my wife sews drapes, and sewing a stitch and sowing a row are similar, but i looked it up and you are absolutely correct. the sentiment however arrived.
My wife (previously a Mexican citizen–now a U.S citizen) and I no longer visit her family members in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. It is just across the bridge from El Paso, Tx.– too many drug gang killings and kidnappings. The AK-47 is king there now.

Last Sunday 4 Mexican police officers were ambushed and shot to death in Juarez. Over 1000 murders so far this year–more than the number of soldiers the U.S. lost in Iraq and Afghanistan combined this year. Also a lot of job losses in the restaurant, bar, and tourist areas–less tourists.

Mexico disarmed its citizens after the Pancho Villa revolution in the early 1900’s. Only the military and police can legally have firearms. The people are disarmed and are helpless against the drug gangs.

Rearming the Mexican Citizens might help also–it worked well in Peru when the communist Shining Path Guerrillas tried to take over the remote villages when the police and army couldn’t protect them. Each person–male and female adults–has a 12 gauge shotgun (00 buck shot) or an old (but effective) Mauser bolt action rifle. The attacks stopped when the villagers took back their pueblos and ranches from the bad guys. No lawyers or courts required!

Having lived in countries where kidnapping for ransom was epidemic I can sympathize with this man. We could NEVER let our guard down. I took the time to perform basic counter-surveillance steps whenever I was out and about town and it was very tough when I had the kids with me.
I feel for this guy and his family. I hope he is released safely and soon. But, I have had nearly a dozen friends and acquaintances murdered by FARC and Muslim terrorists and all too often you don’t get out alive.
I know I am preaching to the choir but we need to secure the border and respond sharply when violence from Mexico intrudes across our border. Of course, Bush didn’t do it and Obama won’t either.
