Sorry for the light blogging. I’m in bed after getting hit with the same awful bug that sent my son to the ER on Monday and behind on filing my syndicated column for tomorrow. Just one of those days! Got a couple of posts for you in a bit. Talk amongst yourselves.

Well…not my ear per se…
Kind of on topic. The only other song by Don McLean (American Pie fame) worth listening to is a beautiful song called Vincent (Starry Starry Night).
I’ve got no beef with that. But going beyond reason does not necessarily lead one back to nature.
But YOU are not insane, as he was, or at least he seemed to be.
Now if we could get you away from the Dark Side….

Gosh, I leave for a few hours, innocently trying to finish up my holiday shopping online (and hoping that these gifts arrive in time), only to return and find that shared home remedy cures has been replaced with shotguns, zombies, and pets. Okay, who’s causing trouble? Is it Chaps?
As to the recommendation of shotguns, my husband recommends a Mossberg 500. I’m a handgun girl myself. Shotguns are hard to handle being that I was taught the finer points of shooting one from my father. They make fine weapons of choice for dispatching deadly vermin like these delightful creatures who like to dig holes that cows often unluckily get their hooves stuck in.
While I don’t know if shotguns or empathy would make good weapons against zombies, I think pug flatulence could do the trick. Since we’re on the subject of pets, can anyone recommend a good pet insurance carrier? Does pet insurance really save you money in the end? Has anybody noticed that their vet costs for such things as medication (like heartworm or flea and tick) have gone up?
Also, if anybody is thinking of getting a pet, I would recommend pug rescues. They (like other purebred rescues) save dogs from puppymills and promote responsible ownership and proper dog breeding (instead of overbreeding). These rescues take in very sick and old animals and most can be turned around to make very fine pets. Be aware that if you take on a pug (or any rescue animal) that has some medical challenges you’ll be making a financial “investment.” So if you’re looking for a furry companion who is full of personality, you can’t do much better than a pug.
I’ve always liked that. And for anyone who’s never seen a Van Gogh in person, you should when you can. Books and prints never do the real thing justice.

Sheesh. Back in my day we shoveled. Three times. Once so my parents could get out to get to work. Once so that they could get back in the driveway. And once in between so that the third shoveling would be manageable.
But you kids these days with your “snowblowers” and “internets”…

And when have I talked smack about you, Chaps? I’m sorry but you’re not the sole source of enlightenment on this blog and you’re not as “enlightened” as you might think.
Are you suffering from the same sort of mental illness that Van Gogh did? Are you that sensitive to criticism? Hmmm… perhaps you are as self-pitying as lgm?
I have to say that with all his faults, Van Gogh took risks with his art, all the while battling either mental illness or some medical condition, and suffering from self-doubt about whether or not he’d ever be a success. Van Gogh is about as misunderstood as any artist experimenting with new techniques, not taking good care of himself, and living on the edge.
Chaps- you know as much about art as you do about zombies I’m afraid. I would stick to being the best super sensitive liberal you can be, okay?

The best museum for his works is the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Especially the self-portraits… it’s like the eyes follow you everywhere. Then again, there’s always been a lot of movement in Van Gogh’s brushstrokes, so that’s perhaps why I got the feeling when I looked at the paintings.
Going off topic..there is sad news for those of us who enjoyed the original Star Trek. Majel Barrett (Roddenberry) has passed away from Leukemia.

Very sorry to hear that Majel died. I liked her in Star Trek. In other news out of California (sigh), it seems the door is now open for “ifs, ands, and buts” in the Good Samaritian law. I figured sooner or later, with lawsuit hysteria these days, it would come. If you live in California, see a wreck, just keep going for your financial sake. As someone in the medical field, I’m rather reluctant to stop anyway. Lord knows, what will come of it. I have always stopped in the past, and rendered medical help, but, these days, I wonder.

Chap, shoveling is why I moved to Georgia. I will never again have to get up at 5 am to shovel out my driveway for the privilage of going to work, and then hope the plow didn’t block the drive so I could get home.
