The Clintons’ foreign funders

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 18, 2008 10:54 AM

After years of pressing the Clintons to disclose their foundation funders, the time has come. As part of Hillary’s Secretary of State deal with Barack Obama, Bill Clinton has finally coughed up his donor list. The contributors’ list was published today on the Clinton Foundation site here.

We already knew the Saudis were funding Billy Boy’s presidential library and that other foreign interests had forked over tens of millions.

There’s much more where all that came from:

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia gave $10 million to $25 million to the William J. Clinton Foundation, a nonprofit created by the former president to finance his library in Little Rock, Ark., and charitable efforts to reduce poverty and treat AIDS. Other foreign government givers include Norway, Kuwait, Qatar, Brunei, Oman, Italy and Jamaica.

The foundation disclosed the names of its 205,000 donors on a Web site Thursday, ending a decade of resistance to identifying the sources of its money…

…Other foreign governments also contributed heavily to the foundation.

AUSAID, the Australian government’s overseas aid program, and COPRESIDA-Secretariado Tecnico, a Dominican Republic government agency formed to fight AIDS, each gave $10 million to $25 million. Norway gave $5 million to $10 million. Kuwait, Qatar, Brunei and Oman gave $1 million to $5 million each. The government of Jamaica and Italy’s Ministry for Environment and Territory gave $50,000 to $100,000 each.

The biggest donations — more than $25 million each — came from two donors. They are the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, a London-based philanthropic organization founded by hedge fund manager Chris Hohn and his wife Jamie Cooper-Hohn and dedicated to helping children, primarily in Africa and India; and UNITAID, an international drug purchase organization formed by Brazil, France, Chile, Norway and Britain to help provide care for HIV-AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis patients in countries with high disease rates.

Oh, and all those evil businesses that Hillary railed against throughout her campaign? Not so eeevil when they’re handing money to hubby:

The foundation’s donor list is heavy with overseas business interests.

Saudi businessman Nasser Al-Rashid gave $1 million to $5 million. Friends of Saudi Arabia and the Dubai Foundation each gave $1 million to $5 million, as did the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office. The Confederation of Indian Industry and the Swedish Postcode Lottery gave $500,000 to $1 million each. China Overseas Real Estate Development and the U.S. Islamic World Conference gave $250,000 to $500,000 apiece.

The No. 4 person on the Forbes billionaire list, Lakshmi Mittal, the chief executive of international steel company ArcelorMittal, gave $1 million to $5 million. Mittal is a member of the Foreign Investment Council in Kazakhstan, Goldman Sachs’ board of directors and the World Economic Forum’s International Business Council, according to the biography on his corporate Web site.

Among other $1 million to $5 million donors:

_Harold Snyder, director for Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, the largest drug company in Israel. His son, Jay T. Snyder, serves on the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy, which oversees State Department activities, and served as a senior U.S. adviser to the United Nations, where he worked on international trade and poverty.

_No. 97 on the Forbes billionaire list, Ethiopian-Saudi business tycoon Sheikh Mohammed H. Al-Amoudi.

_Issam Fares, a former deputy prime minister of Lebanon.

_Mala Gaonkar Haarman, a partner and managing director at the private investment partnership Lone Pine Capital.

_Lukas Lundin, chairman of oil, gas and mining businesses including Tanganyika Oil Company Ltd., an international oil and gas exploration and production company with interests in Syria, and Vostok Nafta Investment Ltd., an investment company that focuses on Russia and other former Soviet republics.

_Victor Pinchuk, son-in-law of the former president of Ukraine. Clinton spoke in 2007 at an annual meeting of Yalta European Strategy, a group Pinchuk founded to promote Ukraine joining the European Union.

Sort of like the large deal S&S books offered to Hillary for the rights to her book (an amount that industry insiders thought unlikely to ever “earn out”).
After all, it was the stockholder’s dividends, not their own personal money.
So latest version is taxpayer’s paid taxes as well as undistributed stockholder’s dividends.

What does the source of the money (their own or someone else’s)have to do with buying or not buying influence? According to liberal dogma, it’s ALL everyone’s money anyway.

I would guess a lot of it probably was pledged in private while he was in office….ie any influence was already bought.

I don’t understand the charity thing either. It looks like just a way to move money around without getting the “evil” label.

We will have a Secretary of State whose husband and by extension her is a wholly owned subsidiary of Saudi Arabia. Does anyone think Madam Clinton will dare get tough on the Saudis regarding the funding of wahabi fanatical schools all over Pakistan and elsewhere? Will anyone ask Saudi Arabia to stop funding virulent media attacks on the West and in particular the US and Israel? Now we know why WJ Clinton was useless and helpless after the Saudis allowed the murder of 19 US soldiers at the Khobar Tower. When the Saudis said no to FBI investigators, WJ Clinton and the helpless Warren Christopher said “Tut tut”.

What is the motivation for foreign individuals and corporations to donate to any American President’s foundation? Is it the admiration of the President’s policies or world advancements? Powerful (wealthy) movers and shakers are motivated by few things. Their most important motivations are their personal agendas and they reward others quid pro quo. Why are so many foreign individuals and entities providing such lucre, not only to Clinton but to Bush I and soon to cash in Bush II? We are seeing these world M&S reward our leaders regardless of party affiliation equally. When will the veil of the CFR be lifted and its agenda proudly displayed to the ignorant masses?

While it’s true that Bubba Clinton was firmly in the bag for the Saudis, it should also be noted that our current about-to-be-ex-president is also tight buddyroos with them.

Remember his post-9/11 response, when he absolved Saudi Arabia (home of — and no doubt financial partner for — the hijackers) from any connection to this or any other terrorist act.

Any current president will have to be buddy buddy with the saudis because of the oil. A good reason to get away from oil. That doesn’t mean they have to take money from them.

Seriously, with respect to all that money funneled by the foundation for AIDS treatment, earlier this month, the Semmelweis Society, an organization that investigates medical errors, sent a petition by 37 distinguished scientists and physicians to the American Association for the Advancement of Science requesting that it withdraw four papers from 1984 by Dr. Robert Gallo claiming to prove that AIDS is probably caused by HIV. The Semmelweis people had hired former LAPD detective, now private investigator, Clark Baker to examine the origins of these papers and Baker found evidence that Dr. Gallo had arbitrarily overruled the findings of a research assistant that there was no proof that HIV causes AIDS. If the AAAS accepts the findings of the Semmelweis Society and the petitioners, it means that billions of dollars have been wasted, not only by the Clinton Foundation, but by our government, UNAIDS and the World Health Organization pursuing the wrong remedies for AIDS.

Like most Americans, we are on the same page about corrupt and timid politicians. But, Bush took corruption to a whole new level, sacrificing American tax-dollars and lives for his Saudi masters:

Clinton, did his own selling-out as well, as we now know.

This is the first time I’ve heard George called “Timid”, I’m used to hearing “Hitler” and worse.

Timid? He said he was going into the middle east and kill terrorists, he went into the middle east and killed terrorists (not enough as far as I’m concerned) and he’s timid? The only thing I’ve seen him cower before is a pen. He’s never seen a spending bill he’s ever had the guts to veto.

I did not realize this either, until I wondered how come Bush:
    - Helped Bin-Ladens escape when ALL American flights were grounded right aftr 9/11.
    - Delayed 9/11 Commission.
    - Blackened pages on Saudi Arabia from 9/11 Interim report.
    - Increased, yes increaded Saudi student’s visas.
    - Took terrorists Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in the phony ‘war-on-terror’ (see below).
    - Took Bandar-Bin-Sultan in Bush family.

As for the Iraq war, take a close look and you will see that:
    - Gulf War I was started when Al-Sabahs (of Kuwait) were driven out and Al-Sauds (of Saudi Arabia) were in danger.
    - Gulf War I stopped when Al-Sabahs were restored and Al-Sauds were out of danger.
    - Iraq War was started under the ‘war-on-terror’, when it is proved that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Infact, Iraq war was started to finish Saddam once and for all, for Al-Sauds. So what if American tax-dollars and lives were wasted? http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=73KIpzrUXI8
Bush made it clear that Politics is about VOTES and MONEY.

Who but a timid man, who never held a responsible job, went AWOL, failed business after business and was bailed oout by rich wahhabbis, would sell America to the wahhabis like he did?
Rest of Bush policies etc are academic.

We’re STILL at this place? Gee. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. The bait and switch tactic trying to connect the need to invade Iraq with 9/11 is so old and worn out it that I am nearly stunned it would even be attempted again.

“Actualy they will hire someone to investigate them and find no wrongdoing. Got to have that cut out just in case.”

I disagree with both of you. The Clintons will pay for an investigation that’s for sure. But fault will be found. The report will blame either George Bush, Rush Limbaugh or Ann Colter.

after seeing this list, it almost made me happy obama won, because you know all those DONATIONS AND CONTRIBUTIONS are now semi-meaningless. the next step is for the obama senate to refuse to confirm her due to these conflicts of interest. then she is out of the senate, out as sec state, and bill is out of influence peddling until chelsea comes of age.

I want to repeat the question I asked in another forum: Is there ever going to be repercussions to Democrats who (continually) indulge in wrongdoings/anomalies/outright crimes?
