What do the NYTimes and Sarah Palin have in common?

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 22, 2008 07:36 PM

They both got punked by fake Frenchmen.

When Sarah Palin got punked, of course, she was universally mocked by the Left.

Now that the Fishwrap of Record has admitted falling for a fake French prank, will they be ridiculed by Jon Stewart, the late-night comedians, and, um, the vicious commenters at the NYTimes.com?

From the correction:

Early this morning, we posted a letter that carried the name of Bertrand Delanoë, the mayor of Paris, sharply criticizing Caroline Kennedy.

This letter was a fake. It should not have been published.

Doing so violated both our standards and our procedures in publishing signed letters from our readers.

We have already expressed our regrets to Mr. Delanoë’s office and we are now doing the same to you, our readers.

Does anybody read the NY Times? To me it is in the category of the National Enquirer – but the paper is a bit better for lining the bottom of the bird cage. (Although they could make it a little smaller so it would fit better.)

Yep, pretty silly of the NY Times.

Was the original letter, published stand alone as an article, OP-ED, or was it in ‘letters to the editor’? Re-reading the blurb, it says ‘posted’, was the letter (email) in the paper, or was it on-line?

Any person who uses a title of any sort should be verified.

As for the ridicule that may or not come, give it a chance. And, the difference, I suppose, is an apology. To it’s readers and certainly to the Mayor. Though Gov Palin has nothing to apologize about.

The NYT probably gets 1000 letters a day. Cant say I have ever read their paper other than the top page as I am standing in line if I am at Starbucks.

I bet they wouldnt publish any of my letters, but they will print one from a fake French mayor without due diligence?

I wonder if the fact checkers were part of the last go around of layoffs of this dying symbol of the dinosaur media. But, then again they have lost so much credibility why let something like accuracy or real facts get in the way of a really good sounding story. I can hardly wait for this fish wrap to quit sacrificing trees along with the truth. After all think what it would do for Gorebull warming and the children (liberal mindset off). ;)

This is not the first or last NY Times excursion into fiction. There was Walter Duranty who wrote lovingly of Uncle Joe Stalin and how there was no famine in the Ukraine. And the Times still brags about Duranty winning a Pulitzer Prize.
And now comes the NY Times policy of refusing to use the word “terrorist” to describe Islamic extremists who murder children outside of Israel’s pre1967 border. James Bennet, who wrote the Times memo, said that those who kill Israeli civilians beyound the green line might be viewed as resistance fighters. Mr. Bennet wrote that reporters should describe the events “vividly” but must refrain from showing moral disapproval of Palestinians who do these things. Is it any wonder that with reporters like these men, the Times now has seen its bonds reduced to junk status, it’s stock price cratering, its dividend slashed and the Times having to take a huge mortgage out on its headquarters. The Times may be popular in the Arab world but nowhere else is it popular.

Arthur Sulzberger the fourth, who through heredity alone became publisher of the Times (no wonder he loves Caroline Kennedy) gave a graduation speech in which he actually apologized to the college graduates because they have to live in an America that Sulzberger found racist, warlike, and economically royalist. Never mind that in the next election, the supposedly racist American people elected an African-American president, never mind that the US saved the Afghan people from permanent rule by the Taliban, never mind that Sulzberger the fourth never had to start as a copy boy. Sulzberger delighted in his attack on America. This is the same newspaper that hired leftwing Arabist Christopher Hedges. Hedges was also forced upon unwilling students in Illinois as the graduation speaker. He began berating America and the students heartily booed Hedges. The students never vote to have baby boomer limousine liberals like Sulzberger and Hedges to be graduation speakers. They are just forced to have them by aging faculty members who spend their days drinking latte and daintily eating brie cheese on fine crackers.
