What do the NYTimes and Sarah Palin have in common?

They both got punked by fake Frenchmen.
When Sarah Palin got punked, of course, she was universally mocked by the Left.
Now that the Fishwrap of Record has admitted falling for a fake French prank, will they be ridiculed by Jon Stewart, the late-night comedians, and, um, the vicious commenters at the NYTimes.com?
From the correction:
Early this morning, we posted a letter that carried the name of Bertrand Delanoë, the mayor of Paris, sharply criticizing Caroline Kennedy.
This letter was a fake. It should not have been published.
Doing so violated both our standards and our procedures in publishing signed letters from our readers.
We have already expressed our regrets to Mr. Delanoë’s office and we are now doing the same to you, our readers.

Does anybody read the NY Times? To me it is in the category of the National Enquirer – but the paper is a bit better for lining the bottom of the bird cage. (Although they could make it a little smaller so it would fit better.)
Yep, pretty silly of the NY Times.
Was the original letter, published stand alone as an article, OP-ED, or was it in ‘letters to the editor’? Re-reading the blurb, it says ‘posted’, was the letter (email) in the paper, or was it on-line?
Any person who uses a title of any sort should be verified.
As for the ridicule that may or not come, give it a chance. And, the difference, I suppose, is an apology. To it’s readers and certainly to the Mayor. Though Gov Palin has nothing to apologize about.
Read the link and it was in the paper, but did not state where.
The NYT probably gets 1000 letters a day. Cant say I have ever read their paper other than the top page as I am standing in line if I am at Starbucks.
I bet they wouldnt publish any of my letters, but they will print one from a fake French mayor without due diligence?
I wonder if they’ll be saying the same thing about Obama.
“Punked”,anyone surprised? They ceased being real journalist a long time ago.Do you think they realize they just got B#&ch slapped?
I wonder if the fact checkers were part of the last go around of layoffs of this dying symbol of the dinosaur media. But, then again they have lost so much credibility why let something like accuracy or real facts get in the way of a really good sounding story. I can hardly wait for this fish wrap to quit sacrificing trees along with the truth. After all think what it would do for Gorebull warming and the children (liberal mindset off).
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE (mo-lone lah-veh) Translation: Come and take them!
Heh, that’s life! Oui.
Coming from the newspaper that gave us Walter Duranty why are they bothering to retract anything?
Oh, wait, it was a negative about a Kennedy.
Sacre’ bleu!; Is the NYT too big to fail and in need of a bailout?; Not anymore; They are yesterdays’ news, but Sarah is forever, voted the #1 conservative of 2008; John McCain, the NYT bum boy, did not make the list.
Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not, it’s the seriousness of the charges that are important, or something stupid like that.
All I know is that one of the two I wouldn’t mind finding on my porch…
And you’ll fetch it yourself, you betcha!
Did they say anything about the letter being “fake, but accurate?”
Us flyovers don’t care much about the NYT or the French. Silly us.
Oh, that graphic is about the NY Times. In the sidebar, it looks like it’s a gag about Palin. I was about to be cranky. Especially after ESPN was bashing her in the leadup to tonight’s game.
The prankster’s letter must have been inspired by Charles Krauthammer’s recent Kennedy aristocracy column.
This
letter wasnewspaper is a fake. It should not have been published.Fixed
I did not know the Times has standards.
Ya beat me to it! LOL!
The worst fate that can befall a fish, worse than death itself, is to be wrapped in the NY Times. Fish consider it an insult. They’d rather be wrapped in a more respectable paper like, say, Weekly World News or something.
I refuse to believe this – the “Paper of Record” would NE-VAIR fall victim to something like this! Impossible!
/sarc
Too funny! I guess it can happen to anyone, though!
Ok, so the letter was fake… but was it wrong?
I think this is hysterically funny.
Is there some darling the NYT wants to see win the seat? So they slam Princessa Starlina, without really slamming her. Say WHOOPSIE- it was all a fake. Then put in play someone who cant steal the spotlight from the Clinton cabal?
The stench of it resembles the stale fast food fumes from Bubba’s limo. That dude is operating in overdrive.
Eww.
Bear1909
Who’d a thunk that after refinancing their building they still won’t pay for fact checkers.
Hey, NYTimes.
Sarah Palin is an alien from Vega. Yep, it’s true. Call me for the details.
Sincerely,
Fox Mulder
Forest products are the common link between the SarahCuda and the NYT (aka Obama Times).
***
Sarah uses wood products (charcoal) to grill her moose burgers and to stay warm. The NYT uses wood products (paper) to provide high quality birdcage liner and fish wrap! Oh–the NYT also uses the paper for some low quality yellow journalism work.

The Sunday Times is costs almost as much as a share of the company. Both are worthless. Who is still reading
The New York TimesPravda?I think I’ll stock up on the NYT, now that we’ll be going back to outdoor plumbing and there is no longer a Montgomery Ward catalog.
I was NOT born on this planet. I was brought here by Space Gypsies and am now awaiting the MotherShip to come back for me.

sorry gang
When their stocks drop to $1 I will still be having a fire burning party and all are welcome!
So if I want to get a letter published in the NYT all I need to do is put the name of some fancy-pants European pol at the end and voila!
Sweet!
I think it’s likely that some liberal schlub at the Times figured anti-French sentiment among the “Plebes” could be mined to help Princess Caroline’s bid for office, hence publication of the faux-missive….
Yes, it is true: They do have 2 standards!
Standard #1: Print any drivel we can get away with.
Standard #2: Print negative stuff only about Republican/Conservative people.
Why do you keep posting this junk Michelle?
Who cares if they got punked, nobody reads it.
This is not the first or last NY Times excursion into fiction. There was Walter Duranty who wrote lovingly of Uncle Joe Stalin and how there was no famine in the Ukraine. And the Times still brags about Duranty winning a Pulitzer Prize.
And now comes the NY Times policy of refusing to use the word “terrorist” to describe Islamic extremists who murder children outside of Israel’s pre1967 border. James Bennet, who wrote the Times memo, said that those who kill Israeli civilians beyound the green line might be viewed as resistance fighters. Mr. Bennet wrote that reporters should describe the events “vividly” but must refrain from showing moral disapproval of Palestinians who do these things. Is it any wonder that with reporters like these men, the Times now has seen its bonds reduced to junk status, it’s stock price cratering, its dividend slashed and the Times having to take a huge mortgage out on its headquarters. The Times may be popular in the Arab world but nowhere else is it popular.
I must admit, I don’t know much about Caroline Kennedy (me being from the mountains and all) but I saw her press conference. Is she dumber than dumb? I mean, will the senate be limited to one and two syllable words when she buys here seat? I may be wrong but I wasn’t all that impressed.
bansharia: who?
….like compromising our national security, hmmm?
Arthur Sulzberger the fourth, who through heredity alone became publisher of the Times (no wonder he loves Caroline Kennedy) gave a graduation speech in which he actually apologized to the college graduates because they have to live in an America that Sulzberger found racist, warlike, and economically royalist. Never mind that in the next election, the supposedly racist American people elected an African-American president, never mind that the US saved the Afghan people from permanent rule by the Taliban, never mind that Sulzberger the fourth never had to start as a copy boy. Sulzberger delighted in his attack on America. This is the same newspaper that hired leftwing Arabist Christopher Hedges. Hedges was also forced upon unwilling students in Illinois as the graduation speaker. He began berating America and the students heartily booed Hedges. The students never vote to have baby boomer limousine liberals like Sulzberger and Hedges to be graduation speakers. They are just forced to have them by aging faculty members who spend their days drinking latte and daintily eating brie cheese on fine crackers.
Teach your children, never work for a company where nepotism exists.
The whole entitlement thing is embarassing.
To me, the National Enquirer has more credibility these days (re John Edwards love child, BHO citizenship issue, etc.)…
