Gertz: Obama keeps Bush war team
That Obama campaign line about how electing John McCain would mean four more years of Bush is getting more snort-worthy every day.
After retaining President Bush’s Defense Secretary, we now learn that Obama is keeping on most of Bush’s political appointees at the Pentagon. WT’s Bill Gertz reports:
Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates has asked most Bush administration political appointees except those targeted for dismissal to stay on in the Pentagon until replaced by the Obama administration in the coming months.
“I have received authorization from the president-elect’s transition team to extend a number of Department of Defense political appointees an invitation to voluntarily remain in their current positions until replaced,” Mr. Gates said in an Dec. 19 e-mail to political appointees.
The chance to stay is “available to all willing political appointees with the exception of those who are contacted individually and told otherwise,” he stated…Geoff Morrell, Pentagon press secretary, confirmed that Mr. Gates wants to retain most political appointees. He said the policy of keeping so many holdover officials is unusual for a transition from a Republican to Democratic administration.

I thought Lord Obama was going to win all our wars by talking our enemies to death, that is the plan isn’t it? Maybe he needs a Republican pentagon to fight off a Clintonian coup.
it also says a lot about the ‘republicans’ that are staying. it looks like we have a ruling class, the parties don’t mean much, and are not that different.
Doesnt matter if the Dems or the GOP is in power. The strategic goal of the US marches on no matter what – and no one is going to change that.
Its the exact same ‘old white guys’ that rule both parties. Its only the public face presented to the American people that ever changes. The financial bailout should put to rest the fallicy that we really have a say in our government.

Why do we need these guys? I just saw a picture on Drudge’s main page of Commander-Elect Cupcake. The MSM is all worked up over the pecs on Him. Why, those pecs alone should keep our enemies awake & afraid all night! On the other, Putin was also on display. Now there is a guy who could provide a serious beat down, if he was so inclined.

If Obama takes full advantage of the effective one party control of DC now that Weird Al has stolen the election, and the GOP is one RINO (out of about five) away from being unable to sustain a filibuster, and any one of the four constitutionalists and the one no particular discernible philosophy member dying in the next four years away from appointing a Fifth Marxist SCOTUS Justice, and we become a permanent one party state, I think comparisons to Stalin or Mao would likely be more apt.
Shortly after Nov. 4, Obama was let in on daily security briefings. You cannot tell me that, upon hearing the intelligence we have, Obama didn’t do an almost complete 180º (at least privately) about the war and terrorism.
It’s great to talk about peace and talks and diplomacy when you’re a candidate; you’re not in charge and it sounds pretty.
When you’re the president – the buck stops at the Oval Office. Obama doesn’t want to be responsible for the deaths of Americans due to terrorism.
Perhaps he’s gotten a wake-up call.
Stay vigilant, Obama. And let’s keep praising him when he does good and challenging him when he does wrong…

Silly old me — Making the comparison with Hitler in regards to Obama — It will be Stalin Obama!
Totalitarianism by any name is still Totalitarianism, and as you correctly note only the Senate could block the creation of a People’s Republic or the Fourth Reich.
But will they? The RINO factor says no.
What I find most amusing is that the far left turned out to be useful idiots for Obama, and he never intended to do what they wanted. I’m waiting for the code pinkers to protest Obama when he sends 30,000 new troops into Afghanistan.
At least there is something to be thankful for the continued continuity of our military leadership under the next administration. The last thing we need is Obamalamadingdong trying to act like the ROTC reject BJ Clinton and the truly incompetent Les Aspen that interfered with their military experts and caused the disaster of Black Hawk Down. I’m still worried the anointed one will think he is a military expert after 20 Jan 09 and start to get our troops killed in large numbers due to his incompetence, arrogance, and meddling.

They may stop, but I predict (even) more vehemence as it becomes clear that Obama intends to continue some Bush policies, especially when it comes to the war.
