The Obama-Blago contact sheet

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 23, 2008 04:56 PM

Well, here it is — Clinton cleaner-upper-turned-Obama-cleaner-upper Greg Craig’s memo detailing the contacts between Team Obama and Team Blago.

All five little pages of it.

Buried two days before Christmas while Obama and his man-boobs are sunning themselves in Hawaii.

First question upon reading the thin report: Who is Eric Whitaker?

Common tie: Tony Rezko, of course.

Example of Craig’s investigative prowess: “Mr. Emanuel had one or two telephone calls with Governor Blagojevich.”

The accounts support your statement on December 11, 2008 that you “have never spoken to the
Governor on this subject [or] about these issues,” and that you “had no contact with the
Governor’s office.” In addition, the accounts contain no indication of inappropriate discussions
with the Governor or anyone from his office about a “deal” or a quid pro quo arrangement in
which he would receive a personal benefit in return for any specific appointment to fill the
    vacancy.

Well, there you have it in black and white! The ‘investigation’ concludes that The One spoke the truth! There’s nothing to see here… move along.

These accounts were communicated to the Office of the United States Attorney in interviews that were conducted last week.

The Feds didn’t interview him, the ‘internal investigators’ did the interviews and gave the accounts to the Feds.

Is this SEIU guy tied into the conversations on the wiretaps where they discuss the 501c4 issue?

Why is there nothing stated at all about possible deals for positions for Blago’s wife? Oversight? Conveniently left out?

And more than anything I LOVE the self serving statements throughout. Why does the author go out of his way to explain Axelrod’s “mis-statement” that O spoke with Blago? Why does he go out of his way to explain all the names that O thought were qualified and acceptable? And why does he go out of his way to say that O didn’t want to show any preference for one over another?

Did he list JJJr (and others) to save political face, so it looks like O would be ok with any of them (especially JJJr)? I bet the tapes show a different view about JJJr. Why else would Blago “threaten” to put “Candidate No. 5″ in the seat as punishment for O’s unwillingness to play ball?

    Facts:
    1. Politicians lie.
    2. Politicians lie about lying.
    3. Politicians use subordinates and lawyers to distance themselves from the lie (internal investigations).
    4. The media is selective about finding the facts (due to laziness, agenda, or being trivialized by earlier stands/writings).
    5. The rest of the MSM does not want to embarrass their counterparts, so they do not pursue.
    5. Ignore it long enough, it becomes a non-issue (except Lewinski and a few others).

    Conclusion:
I thought that Watergate proved that the media considered the coverup to be worse than the original crime/issue. As a journalist, the scent of a coverup should fire up the blood and start the investigation.
It may be that Obama (not Emanuel) is relatively innocent, so why the spinning?

Why should I believe him this time?

Also, I invite all liberals at this site to review Mr. Craig’s academic resume (a rich, liberal daddy who ran Stanford University…entry into Philips Exeter Academy…Harvard…Cambridge University…Yale Law School…etc.)

Can we expect the same caterwauls of “rich, priviledged, legacy-driven, riding on daddy’s academic coattails, pampered white guy” that you reserved for GW?

More from Greg Craig’s professional resume:

    1. In 1981, he represented John Hinckley, Jr., who tried to assassinate Ronald Reagan.

    2. Craig represented Senator Ted Kennedy during the 1991 rape trial of William Kennedy Smith.

    3. He represented the Cuban father of Elián González during the 2000 child custody dispute.

    4. Craig represented United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan during the Volker Commission’s investigations in 2004 into the scandals involving the oil-for-food program.

    5. Recently, he represented Pedro Miguel González Pinzón, a Panamanian legislator wanted in the US for the murder in 1992 of a US soldier, and the attempted murder of another.

    6. In 1983 to 1984, working with Edward Bennett Williams, Mr. Craig represented Victor Posner who was charged with tax evasion in federal court in Miami.

I get the feeling that when little Greg Craig watched cowboy movies in his youth…he wasn’t rooting for the guy in the white hat.
