At Christmas Mass today, the second reading was performed by an Army captain in full dress uniform. He was from Fort Huachuca, AZ and, at the end of the Mass, he thanked all who sent packages overseas. He said that the troops over there have two concerns: will they return home and will anyone remember them? He said that "care" packages reassured them that they haven't been forgotten. He received a standing ovation at the end of Mass.

A couple of years ago I adopted a Soldier through Soldiers' Angels...as a result of a link from this very site even! Now I am on my third adoptee. Soldiers' Angels is great...you can participate on your own terms and an adoption is a good way to help out if you enjoy adding the personal touch.

It's true...there is a heap of need out there. If Soldiers' Angels' biggest fault is their relentless pursuit of assistance for soldiers and vets and their families, then that's not so bad.

Participation is voluntary, and it makes a big difference. I encourage anyone reading to adopt today...it's one of the best Christmas presents you can give yourself!

I hate to be negative but I donated $500 to Soldier's Angels during the year.

They relentlessly mailed me asking for more, more, more! It was on a monthly basis!

I realize that is why they exist but just found them over-bearing and unrealistic to expect this on a continuing basis.

I asked to be taken off their mailing list and have subsequently made any and all donations to the "Move America Forward" group and others donating big blocs of phone cards for the soldiers.

I hate being relentlessly pandered for money -- good cause or not it was too much.

I joined the effort. As a reminder, you can send a gift box via Soldiers' Angels that will get to the overseas troops without selecting a specific person. All the soldiers and sailors that I have met through Soldiers' Angels have been great. But don't be discouraged if you don't hear back from them. They are on the job, after all.

Thank you for bringing more attention to a terrific organization, Michelle! I adopted my soldier a couple of weeks ago and have signed up for the sewing team, there's so much to be done.

Come on, ya'll, go to the website and give a little, it'll be appreciated a lot!
