Eco-guilt assuasion in San Francisco
San Francisco is building carbon offset kiosks for enviro-nitwit plane travelers who want to assuage their guilt over their carbon footprints. Frequent flier and planet savior Nancy Pelosi approves, no doubt:
San Francisco’s Airport Commission has authorized the program, which will involve a $163,000 investment from SFO, but is still working out the details with 3Degrees. Because of that, McDougal said, he can’t yet discuss specifics, such as the cost to purchase carbon offsets and what programs would benefit from travelers’ purchases.
But the general idea, officials said, is that a traveler would approach a kiosk resembling the self-service check-in stations used by airlines, then punch in his or her destination. The computer would calculate the carbon footprint and the cost of an investment to offset the damage. The traveler could then swipe a credit card to help save the planet. Travelers would receive a printed receipt listing the projects benefiting from their environmental largesse.

There is a website called freecarbonoffsets.com.
You can go there and print certificates with any name, and any amount of “carbon offsets”. I made certificates for all my Christmas dinner guests. Each guest now has a certificate showing that they own 1,000,000,000 carbon offsets.

I used the carbon offset certificate site provided by sdillard and entered the number of seconds I’ve been alive as the number of carbon offsets. I got the number of seconds from this site.

Now would that be printed on recycled paper? Why not just email them a copy of the projects benefiting rather than killing another tree, how environmentally responsible is it to print something? Is that printing accounted for in calculating their carbon footprint? Just asking.
laugh now, but you will be shocked later. These kiosks are essentially advertisement. These ideas of paying off your carbon expense will become mandatory in our lifetime. Just another freaking tax, and this tax is going to be used to fund more tax collection schemes. Correct me if I am wrong, but if it getting government funding, it is a government program. Obama is infusing a large group of eco-nitwits into his administration…..see how funny this will seem 2 years from now.

I think the guys who hatched this idea are brilliant. They are true entrapeneurs. The guys who panhandled and sold the medicinal “snake oil” elixars in the 19th Century are their legacy. These people are the 21st Century equivalent to those who stood behind covered wagons and sold a bottled remedy that could cure most anything.
They exist and will thrive, because one human trait will never change.

My wife and I have had NO kids and therefore NO grandkids. How many carbon offset points are we entitled to?
If carbon offsets become mandatory, the intelligent people will just not do whatever activity incurs the tax.
Less people in CA smoke, not because of the liberal anti-smoking campaign, but because the taxes are too high.
And, if business travelers are required to purchase carbon offsets for air travel, some lobbyist will get a deduction added to the internal revenue code so businesses can write them off.

Just discussed this with my brother. It was Tet who went around Germany selling indulgences to guarentee a spot in heaven. The money went to pay for St. Peters Basillica. Martin Luther saw this as so absurd, it drove him away from the Church.
But without Carbon Credits, how could Al Gore explain his extravagent life style?

Guess I won’t be flying through SFO much anymore. What’s voluntary now may well be mandatory later–and part of the initial funding is coming from the airport authority, paid for by travelers.
I am wondering about this Santa killer in LA. He killed 8 people. Now, does he get a carbon credit for saving the planet from all the carbon these people were using (and exhaling)? Since he committed suicide, does his heirs now get that credit? Their must be some accounting of these carbon credits.

I think the super wealthy support the global warming swindle so they can lower the average lifestyle of regular people thus magnifying how powerful they look and are. I turned to an expert on the matter, the Grinch for his opinion which follows:

Thus we see the billionaires support this global warming swindle most strongly of all, because the rules and restrictions will affect them not at all, and with their lives restored back to Olympus, their egos again can grow so enormously tall, that the distance from poor to rich will make even Everest look small.

If you have no kids, can I use you as my offset? My husband and I really wanted four, but seeing as how enviro-nitwits only limit us to 2, I’m collecting offsets in the event twins – which run in our families – are sent to us.

Question: Have the liberals ever revealed the ideal temperature that we should be “offsetting” toward? Since we are in a bit of a cooling trend (past 10 years or so), I suspect we are swinging past an ideal temperature and should probably try to slow it down. Any ideas on how to warm the planet up a bit (besides buying offset-offsets)?
In my conversations with the global warming believers, I have yet to see anyone tell me what the “ideal” temperature is on Earth.
And I also have yet to hear what we can do if we somehow magically stop producing all this carbon and other nations refuse to do so.
I’m sure a magic-eco bubble will form over our country. Dang, we think we have illegal-alien problems now….

In May of 2007 this SAME governor declared that his new law to curb greenhouse gases means Washington is attacking climate change with “no more delay, no more doubt, no more excuses. Today, together, we take action.”
So basically, not only are you going to be buried in snow in Washington – your electricity is going to get a LOT more expensive in order to help ‘cool the planet’ even more!

San Francisco needs another really big earthquake to shake off the stupid and then a big rain to wash it into the Bay. Now we are told to use the phrase Climate Change. Well it has changed. Here in Phoenix we are a good 50* cooler than we were in August. That happen anywhere else?
Yesterday I cooked the turkey on a charcoal grill. Do I earn or lose Carbon Credits for that? So PETA does not get upset- Yes the Turkey was already dead when I put it on the grill.

I too cooked a turkey breast on my propane grill rotisserie yesterday for Christmas dinner plus a leg of lamb, (both came out great!). I went out every once in a while to check on them, (like to be certain that it hadn’t all caught on fire like this one time …), and around dusk when I checked, what should be lurking around the back of my house just outside the fence.. 3 wild turkeys! Being almost dark, my sudden appearance stumbling out the back door, (on my 3rd or 4th glass of wine), startled them pretty good, (usually they ignore me), and they flew up into a clump of pine trees. But I guess they couldn’t see very well in the near dark conditions because I heard a lot of wings hitting the dead pine tree branches. (No, no lambs wandered by but the thought crossed my mind..)

This is really funny. Where exactly is the money going? Who is administering it? What are they paying the people who administer the programs? What percentage of the money actually goes to the programs it is supposed to benefit? What if I think this is all an incredible scam and the people who buy into it are a bunch of idiots? Errah, so let me get this straight if I’m a lumberjack who loves my job, I could buy carbon credits on my next flight to offset my Gwhore based carbon footprint??!! Looks like I’d have to put in a few more hours of overtime and cut down a few more trees to help pay for this brilliant idea. I’ll have to let my son know about this concept. Being a vegetarian won’t help. Carbon dioxide is emitted by dying vegetation, probably more so than what animals release.
Of course this is just a drop in the bucket compared to what is released by the oceans in response to increasing temperatures. (That’s right, carbon dioxide is an effect of warming, not the cause of it. Think about what happens when you leave a carbonated drink in the sun. The same thing happens with the oceans, only it takes about 800 years.)
I use that all the time. I let them do their speech, than say “ok, if you say it is X degrees warmer/will be X warmer in X years, what should it be with out man?” The never answer with any number just some “we know it is wrong BS.” Then I say “so you are telling me I should do what you want me to do when you cant even tell me what the earth should be.” I have never got a coherent response to that.
I have a great Idea….I will build a kiosk next to the carbon credits…being a pretty intelligent guy, and since I am not at this time using very much of my intelligence, at this time, I have a surplus so….. I will offer intelligence credits. On their certificate they will get a list of “actual” scientific sources, and the ability to read and comprehend ….all for …say 20 bucks…..maybe I could be the one to save the planet….no?
