Methinks the comment you quote is made in light of the fact that scopes on rifles are also quite good. If the paparazzi can get off a shot without the Secret Service knowing about it, I think they have a glaring hole in their security (which I assume they do not).

Hope-a-Dope is a creature of the press; he could never have won the donkey primary, not to mention the general election, without their cheerleading and blocking for him.

The only difference between Italy of the 1930s, Russia of today and the USA of tomorrow is that the first two had governments that intimidated and otherwise dragooned their media into over-the-top adulation of The Dear Leader.

The American media required no coercion at all; they were only too glad to fall in line.
