Bon voyage, Jihad Cindy McKinney; Update: Israeli Navy turns back S.S. Moonbat

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 30, 2008 12:36 AM

Scroll down for updates…Cindy’s ship intercepted and turned back after crashing into Israeli Navy gunboat…

Move over, Hanoi Jane Fonda. Jihad Cindy McKinney is sailing to Gaza to deliver medical supplies to Hamas.

Is it a one-way ticket? We can only hope. Via the AJC:

Former Georgia congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is a high-profile member of a boatload of activists that set sail Monday from Cyprus to deliver medicine to war-torn Gaza.

McKinney, who ran as the Green Party candidate for president, sees the voyage as a humanitarian mission, said her father, former Georgia state Rep. Billy McKinney.

“Her mother did not want her to go,” he said, referring to concerns at home for her safety. “But I think that certain people have missions in life and you can’t deter them.”

The activists, organized by the Free Gaza Group, said their 66-foot yacht called “SS Dignity” would defy an Israeli blockade of Gaza and ferry 16 activists and three tons of Cypriot-donated supplies. The supplies are intended to help treat the wounded from Israeli bombings against targets in Gaza, in retaliation for rocket fire aimed at civilians in southern Israeli towns.

Flashback: Cynthia McKinney’s Arab and Islamist Donors

***

Update 5:22am Eastern. Carl in Jerusalem reports that the S.S. Moonbat has been turned back by the Israeli Navy…

The yacht carrying former US Congresscritter and Green Party Presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney tried to outmaneuver an Israeli navy gunboat off Gaza Tuesday morning. The yacht rammed into the Israeli gunboat, which then turned it around and sent it back to Cyprus.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said the boat ignored an Israeli radio order to turn back early Tuesday. He said the boat tried to outmaneuver the navy ship and crashed into it, lightly damaging both vessels. The navy then escorted the boat to the territorial waters of Cyprus.

Protest boat organizer Derek Graham said the Israeli ship “rammed” the protest boat.
According to the ‘Free Gaza’ website of the boat’s organizers (which I will not grace with a link), the boat is now headed to ’safety’ in Lebanon.

My thoughts exactly, letget. Israel is one of our allies, so wouldn’t this be considered an act of treason against the U.S.?
It’s about time Israel stopped caring what the rest of the world thinks about how they protect their own country from aggression. Too bad the U.S. can’t follow suit.

The boat, registered under the flag of Gibraltar and with an English captain, reportedly took on water and experienced engine problems, according to the group’s Web site. It also said the incident occurred 90 miles offshore in international water. The boat’s captain was given permission to dock in Lebanon, where it was regrouping to try again.

A ship carrying supplies for a combatant is a legitimate target in war time reguardless of the flag it is flying. Just like mosques are if they are being used for military purposes. Hell you can carpet bomb an occupied childrens hospital if there is a sniper in it about be okay under the law of warfare. Though that might be stretching the intent of the law a little. Point is any protected target losses that protection the second it seaks to support one side or the other. Israeli boats can legaly sink this ship anywhere. If they really want to get these supplies through, they should work WITH the Israelis or they will be treated the same as any other potential arms summugling ship.

Well, I wouldn’t put it past the Israeli government to order an attack on a boatload of idiots. Remember the USS Liberty.

But I have to say it think it is much more likely that this situation went down as reported by the Israeli government. Most likely a small, fast patrol boat, versus a large bulky craft not exactly designed for quick manuvering. Couple that with some idiolgical idiot who probably shouldn’t be commanding a rubber duck in a bathtub and I am sure they pushed their luck and lost.

Not really! There is the little part about proportionality which means you can’t kill a gnat by “nuking” it. Yes, it may make you feel better, but the response must be conditioned by what the target is and what the unintended consequences might be, i.e., collateral damage.

A sniper on the rooftop of a children’s hospital should be taken out by a sniper on another rooftop, not by carpet-bombing.

Yes, twofoot. The Israeli Navy did attack the USS Liberty. They knew it was a surveillance ship and they didn’t want any intercepted information about their upcoming attacks on the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights to be compromised.

That is not to say I support the attack. But from the Israeli point of view, they couldn’t have knowledge of their attacks leaked to the American press. Look what was happening in Vietnam at the time and how the American press was handling that.

It was wrong, but from their point of view, necessary.

In the case of Windy Cindy, maybe we can hope for something like this.

Either scenario sounds quite plausible. Why would CNN be on the boat and NOT take footage of the trip??? The videographers I’ve worked with on projects turn their cameras on at the beginning of the day and pretty much keep them rollin’. In the case of the CNN types, though, they were more likely hiding. :)

The Rosenbergs were as guilty as hell. During the trial, top secret evidence showed they were sending nuclear secrets to the Soviets. That evidence never made it to the jury; it was shown to the judge, in camera. This is why the liberals always claim the evidence never proved guilt.

Sir William Stephenson (Intrepid) knew it because the British were intercepting Soviet messages at that time. And those messages named the Rosenbergs. See the book “Intrepid’s Last Case.”

Yes, I missed the part about stretching the intent of the law. However, contrary to what the MSM reports, the US goes to great lengths to make certain innocents are not hurt when it can be prevented.

You CAN’T justify putting a TOW or 25MM rounds on a single person when the results of such a strike could harm innocent bystanders.

Putting people in harm’s way comes with the territory of being a commander and this may be a case where the single enemy gets away.

However, there are ways to make certain this sniper would get his reward but not on the rooftop of the children’s hospital. More likely it would happen later when he gets in his truck to drive away with his fellow conspirators and happens to pass through an open field. As soon as the vehicle is in the clear, a Hellfire would join them in the cab of their little truck and they would wake up to find Allah got it wrong about being surrounded by virgins!

An advantage of being able to instantly strike an enemy doesn’t mean you can apply a hammer when a flyswatter will suffice.

We have ways of making certain such individuals “meet their Maker” at the time and place of our choosing so that others are not endangered (our people as well as the innocents).

I would suggest the first thing you do is get your guys out of the line of fire and then let the system respond and “swat” the sniper at the time and place of our choosing — which means you will likely get him and his buddies and could even get his boss as well.

That would be a more apt definition of “overkill” rather than killing everyone who happens to get caught in the line of fire.

BTW, have you ever served in combat? Not that you have to in order to understand proportionality, but the idea of just killing for the sake of killing doesn’t comport well with how the US conducts wars. SOPs and battle drills are one thing, actual combat is another.

And I am not going to disclose things that can jeapordize current or future operations, but there are ways to take out a sniper other than shooting a TOW or firing 25MM rounds into an area that will guarantee innocents being killed/maimed.

This type of attitude is what cost us the Vietnam war. The rules of engagement forbade us to win. When a war is prosecuted under the auspices of lawyers, you will always loose.

The colonists, according to the British, didn’t fight fair in the revolution; sharpshooters would kill the British officers. The British never did intentionally target the Colonial officers. One British sharpshooter even had General Washington in his sights. He didn’t take the shot.

If a sniper is on the roof of a school or hospital, killing soldiers under my command, I take him out however I can. If you are squeemish about it then you can’t be an effective military leader. During WWII, Churchill knew from Ultra that the city of Coventry was going to be bombed by the Germans. He didn’t evacuate because that would have tipped the Germans that their code was broken. So, Churchill made the correct decision. Ultra helped us win the war while keeping casualities to an acceptable level.

Leaders are there to make those tough decisions. If you don’t want to, get out.

We dropped atomic bombs to get a couple of guys to turn off the killing machine of their armies/navies/air forces that had already killed many thousands of Americans and Allies. Had we not done so and had to invade mainland Japan, conservative estimates put the number of killed/maimed close to a million (on the Allies side).
