Mitch McConnell gives us another head-banging-against-the-wall moment
Take some Maalox before you read this headline from The Hill (via HA headlines):
“McConnell says GOP could back stimulus.”
The upshot, as I read it, is that the Republican Party is willing to entertain the Democrats’ massive stimulus so long as they get kabuki hearings and some nominal input into the package.
Here I was, gearing up this week for a united conservative front against the Obama boondoggle, and Mitch McConnell opens his mouth. Where’s my head-banging-against-the-wall graphic again? Oh, there it is:

What does the current crop of GOP critters have to lose – only the next election, and the next, and next….
It’s going to take a real hard about-face for me to ever donate another red dime to the GOP. I finally did and stipulated the only reason I was donating, was because of Sarah Palin. Not McCain, not party loyalty, not because of who and what the party used to represent or stand for. Those days are gone and we’re left with nothing more than a choice between LOTE’s. Good Lord, I hoped never to have to use that term again.
Now tell me, who is surprised that the Republicans got the crap kicked out of them during the last two elections? The just get stupider and stupider.
I just sent an email to mcconnel’s office…perhaps he is another Lindsey Graham in the making?…I’ve never seen anything so wimpy in a longtime.
Thus the last election taught the Honorable Gentleman from Kentucky the wrong lesson.The only treatment for gluttony is to keep the glutton away from food. That would be the job of the people of Kentucky in this case. But the Party Leadership is leading where I do NOT want to go. A more efficient, cost effective boondoggle is still a boondoggle.
That is why I decided sometime ago to follow others on this list and NOT contribute to the Republican National Committee, The Republican National Senate Committee or the Republican National Congressional Committee. I will continue and increase what I send to individual Conservative candidates and the Heritage Foundation.
That is why they need to replaced when they become democrap-lite..it is even better to just say to no to “..but he/she is most likely to win!” an election.
I read over at politico.com that the RNC is pushing for Ken Blackwell as the new chairman. Well, I don’t know much about the man; however, I am very much concerned with direction the RNC is taking and whether or not I want to go there with them. Scratch that – I will not be following them as they head, face first over a cliff. If they don’t think that conservative values are worth fighting for then they really don’t deserve my support. Heck, why would they want it, seeing that they don’t agree with me on the intangibles.
Anywhoo, Mitch, your days are numbered. The sooner you realize that the better.

I’m thinking it should be a requirement for all newly elected conservative congresscritters to take bottled water with them on their trek to D.C.. I know McConnell has been in office a number of years and whatever befell him may be in the polluted water. Unfortunately, there appears to be no cure.
Medical professionals should recommend they go home and spend more than a weekend at home to get in touch with their former inner selves, and question everyday why their constituents elected them in the first place.
I saw the McConnel interview and was actually amused. All I could think of was, “All warfare is based on deception.”
Given the interviewer and the venue, I thought McConnell did a nice job of laying down smoke. Why tip your hand and why engage in a hostile interview.
I am in the minority, I know, but I think all McConnell did was blow smoke. Good for him.
I stated here after the last election, that was my last time to vote for the LOTE’s, McShame relieved me of ever having to do that again. In the future I can and will vote for the person I feel has morals, values and principles very similar to myself(conservative) not caring what letter they carry with them or I will not vote, without any feeling of guilt. I started that this election when not voting for my (R) Senator, who campaigned on reaching across the aisle…oh, he lost by the way.
The RNC has their big get-together this month; Surely they understand that McConnell and Boehner have no credibility; They both voted for the monster bailout and are aligned with both Bush and the Democrats; Fiscal conservatives within the GOP probably have only this one window of opportunity to wrest control of the party from the McCain “constitution be damned” wing that has nearly destroyed the party of Reagan.
Call it “democrap-lite”, the “Evil of Two Lessers” or RINOs it does not matter-they need to go. Now we are hearing whining that with the defeat of Christopher Shays of Connecticut there are no Republicans from New England in the House. Shays votes Liberal 5% more than he does Conservative. Who needs him? (Who needs Connecticut?)
Our fight at the moment must be for the soul of the Party-”moderation” in the face of this evil onslaught is a sure loser. First we need to secure our base, purge the cowards and replace them with fighters.
We’ll keep our Guns-they can keep the Change.

What possible good can come from supporting yet another stimulus package? I’m just not seeing it. If you are willing to explain … I am open to a change in my point of view.
It’s a crying shame that we no longer have a party of opposition to the big government, liberal spending Democrats. I think the GOP is running scared and is trying too hard to get along thinking that they need to pander to the “Government is the answer” demographic.
There has been a lot of talk lately about how the GOP has lost their way and needs to reinvent themselves. To this I say balderdash.
I think the GOP would get along much better if they just get back to the principles that count; small government, fiscal responsibility, limited regulation and free market principles.
I was reading an article the other day where a poll showed that people right now have no idea what the Republicans stand for. And they wonder why they loose elections? Sheesh!
The problem is that McConnell, like so many in the GOP is pandering. He and they are playing this moderate game and they think they may find some common ground with the liberal Democrats. The problem is, like so many times before, this will backfire on them and the Dems will carry on anyway in spite of any deals they think they are making.
I don’t know if we can convince McConnell or the others of their kind differently but we must try. In spite of all of the rhetoric to get them out, the odds favor them being back. See, no matter how poor congressional approval ratings may be, people never seem to believe that their incumbent is part of the problem so there is an excellent chance that they will re-elect them. I like to call this the “better the devil you know” syndrome. /rant off

I gave up on the republicans when Juan McCain was resurrected and then won the GOP nomination.
As I mentioned twice today, the GOP is in “go along to get along” mode. Maybe McConnell is hoping for better tee times at Black Lake.
Prediction: The Republican Party will NEVER learn! Ever! Get rid of it. Its’ philosophy is how to mitigate losses, not how to WIN!
Actually makes me look forward to getting back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks of burning the last of my use or lose leave. Maybe I can keep so busy I won’t have to think about how the RINOs are going to sell us down the bipartisan river again and again and again. It appears conservatives and their values have absolutely no voice with the minority party in the Senate that could actually stop some of the madness coming from our stuck on stupid Congress. How’s this for a stimulus plan… DRILL NOW!!! With Russia threatening to cut off oil supplies to the Ukraine and Czech Republic, we could be (or could have been, if we’d started a decade ago) in a position to sell oil to our allies, helping them and us. But no, adding to the mounting US deficit by giving token checks to taxpayers without cutting any government spending makes infinitely more sense. Duh.
That would be an excellent stimulus. Come January 20th forget any chance of it.

Whether McConnell was blowing smoke or providing spin, it is seen out here away from the beltway as lies; After all, spin is just another word for lie; Democrats have it perfected and the GOP isn’t far behind; That is why Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin were so refreshing during the campaign season; People want the unvarnished truth at all times, whether good or bad, so the GOP better step it up with the right people(Inhoff,Coburn,Demint,Sessions,Jidal,Pence,King of Iowa,Blackburn,Steele and many more come to mind); It isn’t McConnell,Boehner,Spector,Collins,Snowe,McCain,Huckabee, et al; If those and their ilk were to up and start a third party, it would be past tense before year end; They choose to hide behind a party label, mooch all they can gorge themselves with, and of course, deflect any criticism with more spin; And the merry-go-round goes round and round!

A MUCH more likely conclusion is that he doesn’t even know that there’s something wrong with spending trillions of dollars we don’t have to support enterprises that should be allowed to fail.
The likeliest scenario is that McConnell is avoiding even the appearance of obstructionism because he REALLY wants his Democrat masters to let him spend a piece of that lovely money too.
This is the good, old Republican Party pre-Newt… the “me too” party.
McConnell is saying that if Harry and Nancy throw a bone to the dog, well, the dog will be happy to roll over and play dead.

We don’t need to run someone for President, we need to take over congress with our people. I don’t know how you go about getting a party recognized, but if we can, my vote for the name is the Constitutional Party.

A little integrity would also help.
With apologies to anyone who may have already made this point, McConnell and most of the remaining GOP veterans in Congress are all about getting their own pork into the package so they can brag to their voters back home. There are almost no real conservatives left in Congress, and that includes my formerly conservative rep, Lamar Smith, and our two pork pullin’ senators.
When the ‘leaders’ of the Republicans were left in place in both the Senate and the House after the last election, why would anyone expect them to change?
I hope no-one here is expecting Boehner to react any differently than to rubber stamp any handout headed Ohio’s way!
Clearly, they believe they are doing a good job.
Reality Check: We got smoked in the elections. The Dems can pass ANYTHING they want in the House. The new President is a Socialist, big time.
All we have left is the Senate. When you look at the numbers all it takes is some combination of McCain, Collins, Snow, Graham, etc. and any filibuster fails.
We are not going to win many battles, so McConnell has to pick his fights. His interview was with George (I still work for Bill) Stephanopolus on ABC Sunday. You expect him in that environment to stand and fight and be principled and tip his hand? Not an approach I would recommend.
He was polite, vague, and yielded nothing but platitudes. He did the right thing in my opinion. Stephanopolus was left with NADA.
If you write McConnell and positively state your opinion, you are doing what needs to be done. If you whine and moan and threaten McConnell with third party, etc. etc. that is EXACTLY what Obama and his worshipers want you to do.
WE have to hide in the weeds and play our cards when we have a high value objective to accomplish. My opinion.

2. The RNC will continue doing what they’re doing until they realize that “conservatives” will actually go elsewhere if they feel neglected, regardless of their opponent. The RNC has for decades done whatever they wished then said to voters, “hey, you’d better vote for me or else you might get that guy.” The problem is that now we can’t tell the difference between the RNC and that guy.
3. Given what we have, the only real solution is for people to seek life elsewhere besides the Democrats and Republicans. If neither represent what you believe, then don’t vote for them.

The problem for the GOP in Congress is they are more interested in getting campaign contributions than doing what is right.
So long as there are no restrictions on how much bailout and stimulus money comes back directly into the pol’s re-election pockets, they’ll just keep hopping from trough to trough… It doesn’t matter to them if taxpayers are going broke and the economy tanks because of their action. As long as their reelection fund is up, it’s a good move…
If the Senators were selected by State legislatures, this would likely go away and they might actually start to govern with some common sense.
It’s interesting because libs had no idea what Obamarama stood for either, yet he won the election. My mom and dad voted for McLame, and I wanted to make sure what they knew who they were voting for, so I asked them why they chose him. They said it was because he had an (R) beside his name. So, it seems to me that the less educated repubs are voting just for their party, and the libtards are voting for a rock star. If that’s the only information people are using to pick our national leaders, we are up the creek.
Rather than taking the hint from the voters and getting more conservative, it would appear that Republican “leaders” (pied-pipers is more like it!) are settling into the same submissive mode they were in during the Dems 54 year long era of House control.

I loved the graphic, MM. I think that seeing it gave me enough laughter to counter the urge to do that action for real. Reading the rest of those words was necessary but not fun.
One slight comment on the graphic, though: this guy’s going to have a broken nose. Not that I’m all that experienced at head-banging, but I generally aim for my forehead.

That’s all they really care about anyway. I got a call LAST WEEK from some guy raising funds for the GOP senator in Minnesota that got beat by Franken. They called and asked me for 75 dollars FRIDAY. I live in NC, I don’t care what Minnesota does, yet they think I’m going to contribute to a campaign that is O-V-E-R.
Our whole political system is poor. I love America, but our political system needs to be severely overhauled. . . and I’m not talking about taking out the safeguards that our founders put in place like not electing senators and getting rid of the electoral college.
The guy is A RHINO…..he doesn’t get it, never will get it and is as lame as the dems…….these clowns do NOT represent the people…It is WAY PAST TIME for a BOYCOTT of filing and paying taxes. They have stolen enough money from the people of this country.
I honestly think this is just Mitch extending the obligatory olive branch to the new president and/or congress, and nothing more.
After the hard time Senate Democrats gave McConnell in his reelection bid this past November, raising millions for his opponent in out of state contributions, I can’t see him surrendering anything to the Dems.
This is another reason why, in November of 08, I cast my last vote. When somebody worthy of the vote comes forward, I’ll reconsider.
