Illinois lt. governor laments his “laughing stock” state

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 5, 2009 10:41 AM

Al Franken isn’t the only big joke of the day.

Illinois lieutenant governor Pat Quinn went on Chicago station WLS this morning and bemoaned that the Blago scandal had turned his state into an “international laughing stock.”

To underscore the point, WLS posted this recent newspaper ad for furniture on its blog:

No, Mr. Quinn, it was the Illinois Democrat Party that did that!

Good people of Illinois, what’s say in the next statewide election, you at least consider the Republican candidate(s), rather than just automatically voting for any Democrat(s) running?

The problem here is that it’s just a joke. Democrats displaying their corruption is the norm. When Republicans do the same, it’s a “crisis.”

The person responsible for the ad is BRILLIANT… Laughing stock yes, conviction, I doubt it… Greatest one sentence I heard in reference to the investigation of BLAGO, came from a LAWYER on Fox News… What’s he guilty of, conspiracy to commit a conspiracy??? She followed up with that’s not a crime…

When in any of our life times has Illinois, at least the Chicago/Lake Counties NOT been a laughing stock? These damn fools celebrate corruption, high taxes and poor service for the dollar. I do believe Illinois Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn is merely hoping no one goes through his life with a fine toothed comb.

But I do enjoy the ad-very good.

Don’t count on the rest of Illinois remaining normal. I grew up in Chicago but I’ve lived in Dupage for years; pretty conservatve place, until this last election, when I was stunned to discover that Obama carried Dupage. Not a huge margin, but still… Looks like that taint is spreading.

It’s not the river, it’s the big cities along the river. Urban life causes brain damage, according to studies. And you wondered why the cities are so blue?

Illionois has truly joined the elite, Dem-lead states of the union. What are the criteria? Here:

    1. Budget Deficit (oh, it was that darn sub-prime crisis that we bought into)… check!

    2. Legacy political offices based on either family connections, political favors, or race…..check!

    3. A state with a dual identity… an urban area that carries political influence with a rural area that tries to steer clear of that same influence… check!

    4. A state that’s been suffering from a recession for a long time due to either political indifference or incompetence (Michigan) or underdevelopment in one region entireley (New York)…. check!

    5. A state’s governor who’s over his/her head and “plays” at doing something but has no results to show for it and wants no accountability for those lack of results…. check!

    6. A dependent minority class who continues to vote for Dems so that they can keep chugging on those freebies… check!

If your state should happen to fulfill at least 3 of these criteria and you have a Dem governor you have joined the elite! If you have a Republican governor and still fulfill at least 3 of these criteria, you might have unknowingly joined the elite! ;-)

When I moved to Chicago, I thought that I had moved to the far side of the moon. While political corruption is everywhere, Chicago took corruption to a fine science. The corruption is not the crime; getting caught is. Expect more corruption to surface before Blago goes to trial.
