Nancy Pelosi: Back to the good old days

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 5, 2009 12:52 PM

Connie Hair at Human Events reports on the Fresh and Clean House Reformer’s latest power grab:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes — which may be voted on today — will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America.”

In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress.

The Lady Speaker is just another Good Ol’ Boy in a skirt.

JHS2, this is why we have to get involved NOW, before 2010, and get some competent leadership at the top of the RNC, to upgrade RNC’s computerized communications, to get a voice who will be heard! I don’t care if Michael Steele or Ken Blackwell are at the top of the RNC, but it needs to be one of them. Do you know who Mike Duncan is? Heard much from him? He cannot be allowed to get re-elected the Chair at RNC. He failed us miserably, as does anything/anyone “moderate”! Find out who your RNC chair and board are in your state, and urge them to support new leadership!

She simply doesn’t care. Listen to many of the liberal posters here. She and they believe that they are the only ones with solutions. Bipartisanship is a word bandied about only to win elections.

This move could very well be short-sighted, though. The fairness rules are not aimed to benefit any party but to ensure that the public knows what is going on inside the House and that the minority still has a say. I agree with those hear that would like to see our Republican representatives do more than write a letter. They should be speaking to every media outlet available to them and letting the people know exactly what this means.

Having a Speaker that seeks continuously to marginalize and silence the minority is chilling. Even die-hard liberals should be taking a moment to consider this and what it could mean. Would they be as satisfied with this change if 2010 or 2012 shifts the balance of power to the right?

Fact Checking Annenberg Political Fact Check

FactCheck made at least two very clear factual errors.

Also, has anyone tried to verify the certificate number of their supposed COLB: 151 1961 – 010641

Natural-born citizens are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.

To be a natural born citizen of the United States, three conditions must be met:
    1) Born “in the country” (on U.S. soil).
    2) Born to a father who is a U.S. citizen.
    3) Born to a mother who is a U.S. citizen.

If any one of those conditions is not met, then the person is not a natural born citizen of the United States, and they are not eligible to hold the office of President of the United States and Commander in Chief of all of our Armed Forces.

Barack Hussein Obama II fails to meet the second condition (his father was not a United States citizen). He may also fail to meet the first condition (more evidence exists to show that he was born in Kenya than exists to show he was born in Hawaii), but that is superfluous. BHOII is already conclusively ineligible because he fails to meet the second condition, regardless of whether or not he meets the first condition.

Speaker Pelosi is not reinventing the wheel. She is merely returning to the good old days of Democrat domination of the House of Representatives. Can any of us who have been around for a while recall any meaningful debate in the House prior to the Republican take over in ‘94?
Like her predecessor Tip O’Neil, Pelosi does not intend to allow the Republicans any platform to affect public policy.

I certainly remember it, and remember a story about a surrendercrat Congresscreature from Texas that ordered a Republican out of a committee meeting, even though the Republican was a member of the committee.

The House is turning into a Good Idea Club.

This is nothing less than a power grab by Pelosi. It’s going beyond “to the victor go the spoils” and it ought to strike anyone as dangerous that a party with already comfortable majorities would seek to further undermine or destroy any potential minority influence.

Makes the Republicans power sharing agreement in the Senate recently look pretty d@mn stupid doesn’t it?
